John Kerry Flips The Bird At Vietnam Vets

There was a Gathering Of Eagles Event last Sunday morning, and 50-60 Eagles were gathered outside The NBC Washington Studio, where Code Pink was supposed to be. They never showed up, but it just so happened that Senators John McCain and John Kerry were taping a session of Meet The Press at the same location.

Each came in separate cars and upon completion of the session, Senator McCain left first. Pro-troop advocates explained that Senator McCain’s “graciousness was beyond words.” His car stopped at the end of the driveway. He looked up and when he saw the Vets, he got out of the car and shook the hands of the Vets, the blue star Moms and the patriots.

It was an emotional moment as Vets and Senator McCain looked eye-to-eye, shaking hands and sincerely thanking each other.

Next came Lurch’s car. Some of the vets turned their backs as the car passed by, but most booed.

One guy was wielding a bullhorn…

Vet, George Samek who had wanted to let Kerry know that he is a traitor for more than 30 years, happened to be holding a bullhorn. He let Kerry know that “he is no brother of mine.”

As Kerry’s vehicle turned left at an accelerated pace, and faced about 15 people on the opposite side of the street, where most of the vets were standing– Kerry flipped them the bird from inside the safety of his speeding car!

George Samek says in his post at the Gathering of Eagles site:

It was my great honor to say these words, in his face, after rolling them around in my head since the Vietnam War, I pissed off a Senator who’s rise to public office was paid for by his never ending lies and slander of Vietnam Vets, the look in the sad looking excuse for a Vietnam Vet face  helped heal my heart & to all you Vietnam Vets I said these words in your name and in the name of the 58,483 names on the Vietnam Wall.

Alas that there were no cameras fast enough to capture the moment.

In fairness, I don’t think being maligned by bullhorn obligates one to be civil. I’d have flipped them off, too. My biggest beef with Kerry during his campaign was that he was running as some invented persona. It’s refreshing to see displays of candor like this.

That’s a great story. However a picture of that jackoff flipping the bird would have been priceless. That thing would have followed him around like a puppy dog for the rest of his life.

I honestly don’t understand how people like Murtha and Kerry can have the experience of military service and then repeatedly and with extreme prejudice demean those that serve and the importance of the work the military is doing.

I understand that there can be disagreements with policy but I think most of the ex-military officers that hold those differing opinions voice them without slandering those currently serving.

Kerry and Murtha are both defectives and that they have as much power media presence as they do is tragic.

It is of some consolation that history will not judge them kindly if it recalls them at all.

I think it’s unfortunate that it’s not conservatives writing the history books. Revisionist history is the wave of the future. American Indians were a peace loving people and sat around smoking the peace pipe all day dontcha know.

Geoff, there’s no doubt that they egged him on, but would you have ever found yourself in the same position?

Did you slander the troops, and engage in treasonous activity?
Did you greatly exaggerate your military exploits? Meet with the enemy? What reason would you give for any military vets to boo you?

Even if they were anti-war vets booing you, turning their backs on you, and shouting things at you through a bullhorn, because of your support for the war, that would be nonsensical and unhinged behavior, because people can have honest disagreements about war, and you would be thoroughly justified in flipping them off.

Kerry, however, with his shameful background should just suck it up, and accept that there are consequences to the seditious activity he engaged in.

He should be haunted until the end of his days by Vietnam vets with bullhorns.

I’m kinda with geoff on this one. They’re entitled to their opinions and have every right to express them.

We all know what Kerry’s opinion of the troops is, and his flipping them off just illustrates that.

He is entitled. Those troops are willing to die to give all of us this entitlement — free speech (gestures included).

If I were being boo-ed or insulted it wouldn’t feel very good, and I may want to act out too. Hey, I like being feisty enjoying the use of that middle digit once in awhile too.

But it was stupid for him to do it. We expect more of our leaders. He should choose responses that show he is above this. His flipping the bird illustrated the “moment of truth” about this guy. I’m with NiceDeb.

Aww shucks, Dave. I used the word FEEEEEL again!
    I’m Busted!

Okay, I hate kerry, and I think he’s a traitor, and a deliberate opportunist, trying to serve his noblesse oblige, while doing all he could to flee the field of battle, and simultaneously padding his resume’ for elite overlord of massachussets, but. . .

You know, they did call him a traitor.
Thats kinda hard to forgive, even if he, in fact is, a traitor.

Bad judgement, but it could be passed off as a moments irrational response to a “partisan attack against his patriotism, did you know he went to VIETNAM!!!” and all that stuff.

I don’t know, it would depend on the situation.

If I actually believed my self written biography as kerry does (and as I do, it’s just that I’m not some super ninja hero Marine in my own self description of service) I would feel it incumbant upon me to address the individual with the bullhorn directly.

If I were a traitor like Kerry, I could easily dissemble (assuming I was sober) and explain that at the time, I was acting on my conscious, and there might have been errors in my judgment, I fully believe all the things I said, helped to end a situation that I thought might drag the US into a horrible history of conquest and imperialism.

Since I’m not a traitor like Kerry, I would explain that his ignorance is greater than the amplification of the accusers bullhorn, but he can say what he pleases, though I wish he were able to act a little more rationaly in the face of opposition.

Thats just 2 variations of the first of three situations I thought about in the last 90 seconds. I won’t go into the others.
