Led Zeppelin’s Still Got It

The first reviews are in on the big Led Zep reunion concert at O2 Arena in Greenwich, England, and it sounds like it was a triumph. In fact The Sun is calling it “The comeback gig of the year”.

Tracks like Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven had every one of the fans — who included LIAM GALLAGHER and SIR PAUL McCARTNEY — on their feet and shaking their fists.

I felt the need to do a post about this because some people….*Wiserbud, BMac, Farmer Joe*, tried to tell me they were too old to make a successful comback.

Some sample comments from my Led Zep Considering Full Scale Tour thread:

Waaaaaayyy doowwwwn insiiiiiide…… *cough

You need……. *cough*

LOOOOOOOOOOoooooo….*cough, cough* oooooooovvve *cough, gag, cough* -Wiserbud

Who’s going to sponsor the tour, Geritol? Depends? Viagra? - also Wiserbud

I’m with wiser on this one.
Sometimes it’s better to remember them as they were.
BTW, by my calculations, I’d say they’re in their 60’s. –
BMac

You can keep your history. If I’m gonna shell out for a concert ticket, I want to hear actual good music. If I want to see a relic, I’ll go to a museum. It’s cheaper. - Farmer Joe

For me, only Kieth Richards has pulled off the aging rock star thing, but he always looked old.
Page and Plant were the “sexy guy” types, and that don’t really play when you look like somebodys grandma. -
BMac

Well just listen to what people are saying, suckas:

*American Lisa Anderson, 57, said: “Everyone around me agreed it was an absolute triumph.

“I saw them a few times when I was younger, but for me this was the best show they’ve ever done.

“It was worth every penny.”

*Support act PAOLO NUTINI, 20, told The Sun: “I wasn’t alive the first time around but I’ve seen the footage on DVD.

“Now watching them live, I’ve been taught a true musical lesson.

“They were just so intense and so tight, even after all these years.

“I was just blown away.”

Yeah! And did I mention that Sir Paul MacCartney was seen pumping his fist into the air? The lyrics from McCartney’s Rock Show come to mind:

Whats that man movin cross the stage?
It looks a lot like the one used by jimmy page
Its like a relic from a different age
Could be . . . . . oo-ee . . .

Maybe it is a relic from a different age. But it sure hasn’t lost its mojo.

Rosetta, you and I were right.

Here’s the set list:

1.) Good Times Bad Times

2.) Ramble On

3.) Black Dog

4.) In My Time Of Dying

UPDATE:

More rave reviews here and here.

Allahpundit spoils the moment by saying Jimmie Page looks like an old lady.

Dude! Not cool.

Here’s a BBC morning show talking about the concert:

Here’s a whole line-up of videos from the concert.

I was gonna say: “Where’s The Immigrant Song?” but you’ve got it covered. They should open with that one.

  2. wiserbud Says:

Paul liked it? Oh, then I guess I was wrong. ‘Cause Paul totally ROCKS!

Seriously, Paul is as old as. well, as my father-in-law. If I saw him pumping his fist and rocking out!, I’d be embarrassed for him.

  3. wiserbud Says:

By thew way, Deb, if you want to see the concert, albeit a little chopped up, link

    Who loves ya, baby?

  4. eddiebear Says:

This was awesome. I wouldn’t want or expect them to do more than one or two shows, because they would wear down and lose their edge. But hell, everybody still has one good night left in them.

  5. bmac Says:

    Ummm…..my comments were….ummm…….Nunanced!
    Yeah, that’s it, nuanced.

They still look like grandma’s though.

  6. Farmer Joe Says:

Hey, that’s great. I’m glad they did well.

I’m still not buying a ticket.

    my headline at AoS

Zep Reunion Works Out Ok <i”With his left hand moving freely up and down the neck of his guitar and the metal slide wrapped around one of his fingers” I’ll be in my bunk

    >>But hell, everybody still has one good night left in them.

I use that line in the bars all the time and it never works.

  10. nicedeb Says:

    LOL! JacKstraw.

    I’m okay, DIT.

I slept in this morning, then I had to go have a complete check-up, because we’re switching our health insurance coverage.

All the schools closed, but, so far, we’ve just been seeing a very cold rain. The temps been hovering around 32 -33 degrees.

  11. daveintexas Says:

    glad you’re ok.

  12. bmac Says:

    Allah ripped me off man!

  13. nicedeb Says:

I think it worked for Toby Keith

I would have loved to see the performances at the after party.
Sam Moore, Percy Sledge, Ben E. King and Solomon Burke.

    the penicillin didn’t work?

  19. nicedeb Says:

Very Good, but I see it took you all day to come up with that joke.

  20. mesablue Says:

I sure Zep sounds great — through thousands of hearing aids.

  21. forged rite Says:

They actually sound pretty good. Presence has always been my favorite Zep cd, so i’m glad they’re doing For Your Life and Nobody’s Fault. If i had to pick a song that they should have included but didn’t, i’d say Southbound Suarez. Hard to pick though, it would also be fun to see Down by the Seaside live. I watched their last reunion on MTV back in ’85 or ’86. I think it was at Live Aid, or one of those other big 80′s festivals.

  22. forged rite Says:

And Hots on for Nowhere would be fun to hear too.

  23. Dave in Texas Says:

Very Good, but I see it took you all day to come up with that joke.

    you gots to pace yourself
