Vote In The ABA Blawg 100

One of my favorites, Crime Scene KC, (ever notice I snatch half of my stories from there) is on the list under the Crime Category.

You are allowed to vote for a particular blog, only once, but you can vote for as many blogs as you like. If that makes sense.

Voting ends Jan. 2.

Christmas Cheer: CA Cops Pulling Over Drivers For ‘Good Driving’

Some Brainiac thought this was a good idea:

Motorists may be in for a surprise if they spot flashing red lights in their rearview mirrors in this Sacramento suburb during the holiday season.

Police are stopping law-abiding motorists and rewarding their good driving with $5 Starbucks gift cards.

The idea to “promote the holiday spirit and enhance goodwill between the traffic unit and the motoring public”.

Now, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life, once for tail light out, once for an expired plate, and once for speeding. They didn’t all result in a ticket, but those were not fun experiences. In fact, they would best be described as stomach-churning, palm-sweating, knee-shaking events.

There have even been times when I’ve seen those flashing lights behind me, and I thought, “Oh shit!!!” But they were after someone in front of me. That can be stomach churning, too.

I think most people would agree that getting stopped by the a traffic cop is pretty high on their “undesirable” list.

So if I got pulled over by a smiling officer handing out a $5.00 gift card for ‘good driving’, I’d probably throw it back at him.

“Dude! I just lost control of my bladder, and you’re handing me a coffee coupon???”

What if I was already running late to pick up my son at pre-school, or one of my daughters from dance class.

What if the person being stopped was on any kind of tight schedule, and who isn’t, this time of year?

Local businesses donated money to buy the gift cards.

“They raised a substantial amount of money,” Curran said. “They’ll be pulling over a lot of people.”

I’ll bet a ’substantial amount’ of people are going to be ticked off by it, too.

Dang, someone could end up getting tased over it.
