TN State House Passes Resolution To Honor The Goracle

This is so special:

On a bipartisan basis, the state House (in Nashville,TN) approved Thursday a resolution honoring Al Gore Jr. and his efforts to curb global warming.

“We’re glad that Republicans have realized global warming is a real problem and we appreciate their support of our former vice president, Al Gore,” said House Majority Leader Gary Odom, D-Nashville, after the 97-0 vote.

Et tu, Tennessee Republicans?

At a time when more and more scientists are disputing the “consensus” of man made global warming, and articles are now appearing about the very real possibility of global cooling, this seems well…..ridiculous.

But apparently some sort of quid pro quo was at play, here:

House Republican Leader Jason Mumpower said that it was part of a deal because Odom agreed to go along with a similar resolution praising the late President Ronald Reagan when it is filed.

“Let’s be honest about it. What is a resolution but a piece of paper with flowery words on it,” said Mumpower.

He went on to say:

Contrary to resolutions that make a “position statement,” Mumpower said the Gore resolution “has no real meaning other than whatever meaning it has to him when he hangs it on his wall.”

Neato, in other words, “we just signed on to this PC garbage, because we all know it means nothing, and besides, we owed them one”.

Iowa-Style Vandalism: Pig Fetuses Impaled On Car Antennas

Very not cool:

Pig fetuses believed to be stolen from a Des Moines high school biology lab were found impaled on car antennas in a rival school’s parking lot this week.

The pig fetuses showed up Tuesday on about 15 cars, accompanied by about a pound of biology-class crawfish strewn on hoods and windshields.

The Assistant Principal said “you could smell the formaldehyde from a block away”.

Morning Joe Doesn’t Love Teh Fred?

Not that I care what Joe Scarborough says, but wow, nothing but venom from this guy:

With panelists Willie Geist and Mika Brzezinski in supporting roles, the Morning Joe host went off on Thompson today with stunning vitriol, deriding him as “Freddie boy” “pathetic,” a “lapdog” and a “hatchet man” for John McCain.

Video at Newsbusters.

Well, whatever, Joe…you’re in the minority, though pal.

Yes, of course, some have noticed that Fred! didn’t go after McCain as much as he might have. Possible reasons…they’re friends, and Fred won’t do that to a friend.

Orrrrr Fred is looking at a possible V.P. spot on the McCain ticket. I could live with that, if McCain wins the nomination. It would certainly make voting for him much more palatable.

Michelle Malkin is talking about possible McCain/Huckabee, and Romney/Fred pairings….I don’t really see either one of those happening, myself.

McCain/Fred! I can see. They’re already buddies, and it could pull in a lot of conservatives who are wary of McCain, but hope that Fred would have a conservative influence on his administration.

Or maybe notMark Levin on McCain

UPDATE:

Lisa Schiffren at The Corner thinks Rudy/Fred would be a winning ticket. Why didn’t I think of that? If Rudy is able to come back from the dead, and win the nomination (long shot) that would be a good one.

UPDATE (Jan. 13):

Stop the ACLU makes a strong against McCain.

Riehl World View also has a good rundown of media reactions calling it for Fred.

The Weekly Standard has the “Best of” debate awards.

My favorite moment didn’t actually involve Fred(!).

It was Giuliani’s comment about “chaaaange”:

MAYOR GIULIANI: “Well, I guess the first point I wanted to make on what they were talking about is that the kind of change that the Democrats want to bring about is to take the change out of your pocket.

That’s basically — basically, change is either good or bad. And when you just say change, if the change that you’re talking about is raising taxes, if the change that you’re talking about is pulling out of Iraq precipitously, if the change that you’re talking about is socialized medicine, these are definitely changes, but they’re changes in the wrong direction.

So I think people have to focus a little bit more carefully on, what is it that we’re promising? And what are we trying to do? Now, if the change is in the direction of lower taxes, less spending, giving parents choice over education, energy independence, these are things that are going to make a brighter future and a better America. But just the word change doesn’t connote good or bad. You’ve got to get one step beyond that and start looking at the changes.”

AMEN! Finally, someone says the obvious.

Thank you for serving up that generous serving of common sense, Rudy.
