Morning Joe Doesn’t Love Teh Fred?

Not that I care what Joe Scarborough says, but wow, nothing but venom from this guy:

With panelists Willie Geist and Mika Brzezinski in supporting roles, the Morning Joe host went off on Thompson today with stunning vitriol, deriding him as “Freddie boy” “pathetic,” a “lapdog” and a “hatchet man” for John McCain.

Video at Newsbusters.

Well, whatever, Joe…you’re in the minority, though pal.

Yes, of course, some have noticed that Fred! didn’t go after McCain as much as he might have. Possible reasons…they’re friends, and Fred won’t do that to a friend.

Orrrrr Fred is looking at a possible V.P. spot on the McCain ticket. I could live with that, if McCain wins the nomination. It would certainly make voting for him much more palatable.

Michelle Malkin is talking about possible McCain/Huckabee, and Romney/Fred pairings….I don’t really see either one of those happening, myself.

McCain/Fred! I can see. They’re already buddies, and it could pull in a lot of conservatives who are wary of McCain, but hope that Fred would have a conservative influence on his administration.

Or maybe notMark Levin on McCain

UPDATE:

Lisa Schiffren at The Corner thinks Rudy/Fred would be a winning ticket. Why didn’t I think of that? If Rudy is able to come back from the dead, and win the nomination (long shot) that would be a good one.

UPDATE (Jan. 13):

Stop the ACLU makes a strong against McCain.

  1. I could live with Thompson/Romney, but, anything that includes “The Manchurian Candidate” forget it. I’ll just write in, “Deb”.

  2. Whether he is or not is irrelevant Deb. He is the only POW who’s own fellow POW’s contest his conditions of confinement. That is enough for me.

By his own admission he was a collaborator, who volunteered military information in exchange for special treatment, and when that failed, invoked his father’s name and position to gain favor.

He also berated, attacked and slandered the families, wives and supporters of MIA’s while at the same time working to end recovery of missing soldiers and normalize relations.

I guess the 22 month of his confinement that he will not discuss is probably not important at all…, but, it would sure be interesting to read about. Too bad they are sealed records.

I am sure that John McCain is a stand up guy. I am sure his wife who stood by him while he was captive only to be thrown to the curb when her own crisis came around, would endorse him wholeheartedly.

How many billions did the Keating 5 cost the taxpayers when they caused the Savings and Loan collapse, and what was Honorable John’s role in that little snafu? Are all his backers out of prison yet?

Yep, McCain’s a great guy. Just not mine.

  3. McCain and Thompson are the same person if you look at their records.

The purpose of a ticket is to round it out, make it fuller, not include two identical people.

The way Malkin has them is the basic formula that will be followed.

  4. Nick, that is just about the opposite of every account of McCain’s experience, I’ve ever read.

The story is, when his captors found out his father was a high ranking officer, they offered him early release. He declined. I’m not sure how much credibility the other narrative has. Who’s saying that stuff?

I’m aware of the MIA deal, fuzzy on his involvement in the whole Keating affair. There’s a lot about McCain to be concerned about, which is why he’s no where near my top choice. But if he ends up being the nominee, a solid conservative on the ticket would be a good thing.

Ideally, of course, it would be Fred!/ Romney

  5. I disagree, Carolina. McCain is not perceived as strong on Immigration because of Shamnesty. Fred is solid. McCain wants to close down GITMO. Fred does not. McCain voted against Bush’s tax cuts. Fred believes tax cuts equal growth.

McCain is not considered a strong conservative, and is in fact reviled by much of the conservative base. Fred is considered a solid conservative.

Every account you ever read comes entirely from him, or his PR and supporters. Almost nothing is ever published about anything contrary to what his account of things are.

The Phoenix Times (or sun) several years ago had a huge article on whether he was a hero or traitor. By his own words after 4 days of confinement, one of his guards came in and inspected his leg at which time he told the guard to get the officer and he would give them information in exchange for treatment. He was told that it was too late, any information he would have had is old….then miraculously they happened to find out who his father was and he confirmed it….then a matter of hours later he was in a privileged hospital for NVA officer’s drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes with Soviet Interrogators. His picture was pasted all over Soviet Newspapers with a headline calling him, “The American Songbird”

As for his being a conservative. I don’t believe he is a conservative at all. Seems to me he spent more time sniffing Hillary’s tail and thwarting conservative policies than even Arlen Spector did.

Keating 5, he was right in the middle of it, accepting truckloads of cash, travel, resort living etc, and ended up getting off with a hand slap by the ethics committee for bad judgment. His buddy went to prison for 5 – 10, but, he got off because he blamed it all on his wife.

Just look up, “McCain Organized Crime” and “Lincoln Savings” along with “McCain Keating 5” and you’ll find volumes on this rat.

You want to know what really bugs me about McCain the most though? Democrats like him. I look at this the same way I look at Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden recommending Americans vote for Democrats in 2006. I’ll do the opposite every time.

That is his story, and his alone. Just as is his tales of torture while being held at, “The Plantation”. A tale questioned by his SRO’s (senior ranking officers) who were housed there at the time. It was a release center that according to them, no one was tortured at.

  8. I’ve read Nick’s version before. I have no idea of the veracity of it. I follow a strict “don’t go there” policy when it comes to his service.

The evidence of my own eyes says he’s an unstable, angry man with a short fuse who LOVES to piss people off. That’s enough for me not to want him anywhere near the big chair.

  9. S. Weasel, that’s always been my attitude about his service.

And the fact of the matter is, if we think the Dems won’t try to use that against him, after Kerry was swiftboated in 2004, we’ve got another thing coming.

    It HAS to be Fred!

I buy little to nothing McCain says, ever. His character, demeanor, attitude and ethics in the past make it impossible for me to even consider. His own accounting of events upon his release, compared to what he says today are so different that I would need to see the documentation that he refuses to release in order to change my mind. One thing is clear beyond any doubt what so ever. He is no hero. He did offer military information, and he did accept special treatment, which, by any definition is collaboration with the enemy.

As far as being brainwashed. We’ll probably never know what kind of indoctrination he was subjected too. We do know that Communist regimes used those tactics, I.E. Re-Education. We do know there is a long stretch of time he was incarcerated that is not accounted for. We know that according to the Ambassador at the time, Senator McCain formally requested that the Vietnamese Government not release any of his records to anyone other than DOD Intelligence. We know he claims that he never answered to his Senior Ranking Officers which he was apparently separated from. (Wonder why?)

You combine all that with the pictures of him sipping tea, smoking, joking and eating cake with his interrogators. Then you add in the Soviet newspaper headlines, and I come back with more questions than answers about this dude.

I hate to say it, but, with the effort and drive he put into making sure the remaining 2000 MIA’s were never accounted for, leaves me completely baffled when trying to find a reasonable explanation.
