Obama Team Claims They’re Winning The Religious Vote

This is from CBN News. And it’s bad news for John McCain:

The Brody File has received a document from Barack Obama’s religious outreach team showing statistics that they say prove Obama is a hit with religious voters.

The document rattles off exit poll numbers state by state suggesting that he has a “broad appeal whether voters attend church weekly or occasionally” and he, “appeals to people across faith and belief lines: Christian and Jewish; Protestant and Catholic.”

Some of their stats:

New Hampshire

37 % of those who attend church weekly voted for Obama (32% HRC)

South Carolina
64% of those who attend church more than weekly voted for Obama (23% HRC)
Alabama
61% of those who attend church more than weekly voted for Obama (36% HRC)
Georgia:
69% of those who attend church more than weekly voted for Obama (29% HRC)
71% of those who attend church monthly voted for Obama (29% HRC)

Missouri59% of those who attend church weekly voted for Obama (40% HRC)

Etc. Etc.Etc….you get the idea. David Brody says:

Obama may be more liberal than John McCain but he enjoys talking about his faith in Jesus Christ. That is a big deal to some and this is a storyline that will be a big deal as time goes on.

There is an antidote for this. It’s called information. Information these church going folks may not know…… like for instance, Obama’s extreme and grotesque voting record on abortion.
McCain needs to hit Obama with this, and hit him hard. McCain has nothing to be ashamed of, here:
Though the Arizona senator and all-but-certain Republican presidential nominee doesn’t detail his voting record on the campaign trail, an examination reveals a striking opposition to abortion in most of the major fights such as partial-birth abortion down to the smallest of skirmishes, even when he was in a distinct minority.
So there’s that.
And then there’s his Socialistic leanings. The last time I checked, Socialism was an atheistic doctrine. …How about introducing us to his pastor, whose Trinity United Church of Christ chose to honor Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan with an award, last year.
I wonder what most Evangelicals will think of that when they hear it?
I think this may be a case of the voting public not yet knowing everything they need to know about the candidate. That’s why McCain will have to at some point start educating people with some hard hitting campaign ads.
I don’t care what the pollsters say…he’s going to have to go negative.

Alaska’s Governor, Sarah Palin On McCain’s V.P. List

There continues to be much buzz about Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin being a potential nominee for Vice President on the Republican ticket. There’s even a Draft Sarah Palin For VP website. So who is this Sarah Palin?

Rush calls her, “Alaska’s Babe Governor”.

The American Spectator calls her “one of conservatism’s own:

She’s young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption. She defeated a horribly entrenched and corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. She has a son in the U.S. military. She’s strongly pro-life, belonging, in fact, to Feminists for Life.

Gov. Palin could become the Republican Party’s Segolene Royal, the French Socialist Party’s glamorous leader known for her heels and political bite. She is the perfect antidote to Sen. Obama’s cheap thrills, and would help rejuvenate conservatism.

Slublog, posting at Ace of Spades HQ, a few weeks ago, said:

Palin is actually a good pick for serious reasons. She took on a sitting governor in a primary and beat him soundly. She fought corruption in the state government, is pro-life, anti-tax, a lifetime NRA member and has cut spending in her state. Having her on the ticket would undercut the “making history” soundbite that’s bound to come out of the Democrats no matter who they nominate.

Here’s the cute video Slublog posted:

I’m beginning to like this idea more and more.

More from Vital Signs:

Governor Palin has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Idaho but, thank goodness, she lives her life with much more common sense than most in that profession. Palin is the wife of a commercial fisherman and the mother of four children, the eldest of which joined the U.S. Army last fall. Palin is also a former beauty queen, cheerleader, musician, mayor, and was a point guard for the Wasilla High School Warriors when they won the state basketball championship in 1982.

And, oh yes, Sarah Palin is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a strong defender of the sanctity of human life.

What’s not to like?

Wednesday’s Hero: Navy Seal Michael E. Koch

Navy Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Michael E. Koch
29 years old from State College, Pennsylvania
East Coast-based SEAL team
February 4, 2008

“There are only approximately 2,500 SEALs in the Navy and they really are a brotherhood,” said Naval Special Warfare spokesman Lt. David Luckett. “This is another unfortunate reminder of the risks and sacrifices these amazing warriors and their families make on a daily basis.”

Koch leaves behind his parents and a fiancee. He enlisted in July 1998 and entered SEAL training in January 1999, according to The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk. He received the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Navy SEAL Michael E. Koch died Feb. 4 after being wounded by small-arms fire during combat operations in Iraq alongside fellow SEAL Nathan Hardy, who was profiled last week.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

William F. Buckley R.I.P

The godfather of the conservative movement passed away while working (writing) in his study. KJL of NRO sadly reports:

After year of illness, he died while at work; if he had been given a choice on how to depart this world, I suspect that would have been exactly it. At home, still devoted to the war of ideas.

WFB is the man I credit with introducing me to the intellectual arguments of conservative ideas. Before talk radio, and the internet, there was Mr. Buckley on Firing Line and National Review, helping the silent majority understand the basis of their opinions, and giving them the confidence to express them. He was a giant in the conservative movement.

Mr. Buckley (one would never deign to call him by his first name!) was a devout Catholic, who wrote one of my favorite books, Nearer My God, about his faith journey. I read it during lent, some years ago.

Here is an essay he presented on NPR in 2005: How Is It Possible To Believe In God? You can listen to it at the link.

The great man is now at home with his God. May he rest in peace.

It originally contained this line:

“He also found time to write 45 books, ranging from sailing odysseys to spy novels to celebrations of his own dashing daily life, and edit five more. Two more books, one a political novel, and the other a history of the magazine called “Cancel Your Own Goddam Subscription” are scheduled to be published in 2007.”

It was published in 2007.

And here’s NRO’s Symposium. (Make sure you have a box of tissues nearby).

Finally, Ann Coulter has some WFB anecdotes that will make you smile. His great wit will be missed.

Obama In 2004: I Can’t See Running For President In ‘08

Interviewer: “So why have you ruled that out…running nationally?”

Obama: “I am a believer in…….(pregnant pause)……….knowing what you’re doing…when you apply for a job…”

“If I were to seriously consider running on a national ticket…I would essentially have to start now…before having served a day in the Senate. Now there might be some people who would have no problem doing that, but ah…I’m not one of them“.

Now, while it’s true that Hillary made a pledge in 2000 not to run for President, she had the good sense not to renew that pledge during her Senatorial re-election campaign in 2005.

Why were people even asking him four years ago when he was only a newly elected junior Senator from Illinois, whether he was going to run for President?

I think Joe Biden said it best:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Most people scoffed at the idea that Barack was “the first African American” etc. etc….And yet…

I think that’s the sort of thinking that has been fueling much of his support.
