Michelle Obama Does It Again

I swear, this woman is going to be the death of her husband’s campaign. While speaking to some assembled women at a daycare, she told them not to “go into Corporate America”.

“Become teachers,” she counseled. “Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the moneymaking industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.”

Naturally, Investors Business Daily took exception to that remark:

No disrespect to teachers and nurses, but there are problems with those remarks.

First, when she says “move out of the moneymaking industry into the helping industry,” she speaks volumes. Apparently, well-paid people in all kinds of profitable fields are, in the Obama worldview, just idle, scheming splinter-collectors who help only themselves.

On the other hand, the social workers who make sure the cash flows from the various elements of the massive government bureaucracy are the great and noble helpers.

However, the oil CEO who invests billions of dollars of his firm’s profits in the research and development of new technologies that bring hitherto unreachable deposits of fuel to the cars and homes of millions of Americans is very much in “the helping industry.”

So is the pharmaceutical executive who uses her business skills and scientific knowledge to decide to spend billions on R&D for new drugs that lengthen the lives of millions.

The real, productive jobs in the private sector help people in ways government can’t. A president who does not understand these things will kill the geese who lay the golden eggs — kill them with high taxes and onerous regulations and ultimately adverse economic conditions.

Second, did the Obamas really make a tough choice to give up high-paying jobs to work in community service? The University of Chicago Medical Center reportedly pays Michelle more than $300,000 a year for her services as “vice president of community and external affairs.”

My question to Mrs. Obama is….What about business school teachers who teach, ya know…business? Are they really “helpers” if their students go on to be greedy, fatcat business execs in the “moneymaking industry”? Hmmmmm?

What a silly, mixed up message.

I’ll have to add it to her list of famous quotes.

Mrs. Obama has already done her husband serious damage, and is apparently ready to do more. Every word out of her mouth paints him ever more vividly as an American Mussolini, determined to marshal us all into the arms of the Omnipotent State, while simultaneously antagonizing our true allies, pandering to our ersatz friends in Europe, and kowtowing to our enemies. If a wife can doom her husband’s campaign to failure, Michelle Obama will do it.

And all I can do is rub my hands together and cackle fiendishly!

  2. Sparky Says:

The long range plan for these two will be a huge government take-over of Corporate America. Then, and only then, will workers be “helpers”. We all need to be part of the “Nanny State”. Their way of thinking is the Government knows best for all things. This would include but not limited to; business, education, food consumption, religion, raising of children, medical decisions, job placements, media consumption including books, radio and television, pretty much everything in our lives. If you hate to make decisions about any part of your life…Vote for Obama and Michelle…not to worry…they’ll take care of ya!

Another practitioner of the “magic money” philosophy.

“move out of the moneymaking industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.”

Yeah, magic money appears out of nowhere to reward you for your moral stance. Is her understanding of economics really this weak?

My brother-in-law is the same way – he knows in his heart that we can do all these good works if we just choose to spend the money. “Whose money?” I ask him. “The government’s money,” he replies.

It’s hard to do anything other than gape at him after that.

  4. geoff Says:

That’s what bugs me about economists these days. They keep touting America’s transformation into a service economy as if it was a good thing. But there is no money to fuel a service economy without the money generated by the production economy.

  5. cranky Says:

Pretty easy to be tell other people about money when you’re helping yourself to $300 large.

vice president of community and external affairs sounds like a Jesse Jackson shake-down type job.

  6. Nick Says:

Ya’ll should be nice when talking about Michelle. The more she is encouraged to speak, the quicker that banana she’s married to gets peeled.

  7. bustoff Says:

If a man got up in front of a group of women and told them to quit their jobs and become “social servants”, there’d be a shitstorm in the media. Comrade Mrs. Obama would have women be “community workers” instead of allowing them to pursue the opportunities of their own choosing. While she’s knocking down $300K a year as a mouthpiece and a rainmaker for the U of C Med Center. I wonder how many people at the Med Center even know who she is, or for that matter, what she does there?

  8. nicedeb Says:

    Nick, as usual…LOL!

  9. Pupster Says:

    Hey…where’s the cute weasel pictures?

  10. nicedeb Says:

It’s on my stats page. Only I can see it.

HOW THE EFF DID IT GET THERE?

  11. Nick Says:

LOL Translate to Jive huh. ;-)

  12. nicedeb Says:

How do I get rid of it?!

  13. nicedeb Says:

Yeah, you can laugh…I’m “Funkyass Deb”.

    There’s no jive for “Nick”.

    Not fair!!!

  14. Nick Says:

Ah, but you’re the star of the show. It just wouldn’t do to have a flashy front end for a mere peon.

  15. nicedeb Says:

You should have seen me when I first discovered it……the horror!

  16. Nick Says:

I’ll bet. Before the State of Kansas had their own website I ran sites for several departments and it was a constant battle keeping one step ahead of those that would try and deface it or sneak links into other websites that led to sites that looked identical but contained nothing but slander. Those were the days.

  17. nicedeb Says:

What can I do about it?

  18. nicedeb Says:

    Islamofizzles! That’s funny!

  19. Nick Says:

Not much of anything really. They are storing the pages on their own servers and the law will not get involved unless you can prove an ungodly amount of damages. Since you can’t flash a badge and scare them off, about all you can do is complain to their Internet provider.

Go to the website and trace their IP. Then do a “Whois” and that will tell you who they are. You can then complain to the provider and sometimes that is enough. Especially if they have multiple complaints.

  20. nicedeb Says:

    Thanks, Nick.

  21. Patton Says:

Regarding gizoogle, there’s nothing to be done, they don’t have copies of your page, they didn’t do anything, and they haven’t, in all likelihood, ever even heard of your site.

All their site does is filter, translate, and obfuscate whatever web page a user points it toward, live and in near-real time. The fact that someone (one of your regulars) did so is the reason you’ve got entries in your referrer log showing that the page ever existed.

No action required, really. It’s not a real page at all.

  22. Nice Deb Says:

Thanks, Patton. That’s basically what my husband said, too.

  23. Dave in Texas Says:

I dunno. She’s preaching pretty pony platitudes and sparkly rainbows pap, and she’s preaching to the choir. It’s too late for Clinton to use it and McCain won’t, at least not very much.

She’s a black woman, and she will get a pass on all this and more. If she can duck the “for the first time in my life” comment (and she did, it’s old news now), she can dodge this heat too, what little there will be of it.

  24. nicedeb Says:

what little there will be of it.

    Read: none.
