I don’t know if the stupid party is getting smarter, but they’re definitely getting snarkier.
McCain supporters in Michigan are planning on distributing tire gauges at Obama’s energy speech in Lansing.
There are also stunts planned for Washington newsrooms, in which the gauges will be delivered during a reading of “Obama’s energy plan”.
Part of Obama’s energy plan, in case you forgot:
UPDATE:
Lefties are complaining that Republicans are spending too much time dwelling on Obama’s remark. Heh, they’re probably right, but Obama gave us that one on a silver platter.
UPDATE II:
Via Hot Air, here is an Ohio Republican ad that continues the mock.
Captain Ed has a message for lefties who think Republicans are making a mountain out of a molehill:
Obama clearly stated that we could get just as much oil from tire inflation and tune-ups as we can get from drilling — a ludicrous statement well deserving of ridicule.
So there.

This is a great idea!
Since we have known about tire inflation as a way to save on gas mileage for decades, I would hardly call Obama’s solution “CHANGE.”

The leftie’s article was amusing. The Repubs have seized on the tire gauge because it is the only part of the Anointed One Himself’s(TM) stated energy policy that actually involves really doing anything proactively. The rest just involves buying into his Politics of Lowered Expectations(TM), which requires peons like us to make significant and unnecessary changes to our way of life so he and his supporters can feel like they are saving the planet.

Funny, but the tire gauge is actually something that we could use, since Obama’s quote is actually correct. If the off-shore drilling moratorium were lifted production could start by 2017, and by 2030, oil companies could be producing 2.4-million barrels of oil per day, and since barrel of oil can produce up to 19.5 gallons of gasoline, according to the U.S. Department of Energy 1.4-billion gallons per year. Driving on fully inflated tires (not to mention tune ups) would save 2.8-billions gallons per year. SO KEEP THOSE TIRE GAUGES HANDY, they’ll save you gas and $ all year long, that we’ll need if Obama puts us farther into debt with war spending and gas tax holidays.

“Bushey”, what Obama said was “we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling if everybody was just inflating their tires.” which is ridiculous on its face.
Nobody disputes that you can save gas by keeping your tires inflated. But you don’t come close to saving what you would get from drilling:

production could start by 2017
A blanket 9 year projection on OCS production? There is no single time factor that affects all available OCS leases. Mitigating factors are a) the legislative and lease approval timeframe (lengthened if lawsuits are filed and EI studies mandated), b) areas not explored vs. areas explored, c) available infrastructure. The Destin Dome off Florida already has proven gas resources and infrastructure – it would be less than five years.
It takes most kids 4 years to finish a bachelor’s degree. Why should they bother if they can’t have it in a year?
