Nancy Pelosi:Senate Must Pass Recovery Package Or 500 Million Americans Will Lose Their Jobs

Holy crow. The economy is worse than I thought, considering the entire population of the US is only 304 mil. According to her calculations, all working Americans will be losing their jobs, getting new ones, and then losing them again…and again:

Exit Question: Is Nancy Pelosi really as dumb as soap? I don’t know…ask Baby Duh.

Hat tip: Gateway Pundit

UPDATE:

Believe it or not, Speaker Pelosi made this same goof on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace on January 18:

From the transcript:

PELOSI: Well, I believe that — I know that President-elect Obama is a strong supporter of America’s workers. I myself am a strong supporter of that legislation. We passed it with a strong vote in the House in the last Congress, and I continue to be supportive of it.

But in terms of what we have to do in the first 100 days, we must address the needs of this country. Five hundred million people will lose their jobs each month until we have an economic package.

WALLACE: No, 500,000.

PELOSI: What did I say, million?

WALLACE: Yes, 500 million. That would really be a recession.

Thanks to Geoff for digging that up.

Mark Steyn subbing for Rush, this morning, just quipped that 500 million would be one helluva soup line.

So lessee. Assuming that she meant 500,000, the trillion dollar stimulus package will cost $2 million per job saved.

    That sounds about right.

  2. nicedeb Says:

I wasn’t sure if she meant (whatever) jobs lost a month, or a year, either. Jim Hoft seemed to think she meant a month.

    This is from January 18:

    WALLACE: No, 500,000.

PELOSI: What did I say, million?

WALLACE: Yes, 500 million. That would really be a recession.

PELOSI: Oh, no. Excuse me. Thank you for correcting me.

    WALLACE: Yes.

PELOSI: It feels like 500 million. Five hundred thousand Americans will lose their jobs each month until we have a recovery package.

  4. geoff Says:

Most of the dire projections I’ve seen say that we’ll lose around 2 million jobs in 2009. That equates to a mere $500,000 per job saved.

  5. nicedeb Says:

Good Lord. She’s made the same mistake, before?

  6. jana Says:

Shouldn’t a person this stupid be institutionalized, if only for her own protection? What’s keeping her from walking out into traffic?

More importantly, how is it possible that this moronic harpy not only managed to get elected, she’s actually in a position of leadership?

    It boggles the mind…

  7. nicedeb Says:

It’s truly scary. She wants to inflict the same destructive policies that bankrupted CA on the entire country.

Why can’t they just lower taxes, spend less, and create a few jobs instead of going coo coo crazy nuts with this insane porkulous package? These people are demented.

  8. geoff Says:

She wants to inflict the same destructive policies that bankrupted CA on the entire country.

I was just reading this article from Bloomberg, which is talking about CA’s financial woes. Standard & Poor just downgraded CA’s credit rating to “A” which is 6/10. And one guy thinks it’s going to get worse:

Richard Larkin, research director at Herbert J. Sims & Co., a municipal-bond firm in Iselin, New Jersey, said he expects California will face further credit reductions to near speculative-grade status given the record size of the deficit and the likelihood that the state’s fiscal condition will deteriorate through this year.

“Given the unprecedented magnitude of California’s projected deficits and cash flow shortfalls, yesterday’s rating actions are minor adjustments, likely to be followed by future rating agency downgrades,” Larkin said in an e-mail. “Although S&P characterizes California’s rating outlook as ‘stable,’ the size of the deficits and the political gridlock in solving them can be characterized as anything but stable.”

But if you already hated the stimulus package, and were tired of rewarding people for fiscal irresponsibility, you’ll find this a wee bit irritating:

The U.S. Congress is debating economic stimulus proposals, which may ease California’s budget problems without solving them.

The state may get almost $8 billion in fiscal stabilization funding and almost $22 billion for capital projects and federal medical assistance, S&P said, citing preliminary estimates by the National Governors Association.

  9. Gregory of Yardale Says:

Here’s the thing about a trillion dollars. If you started the day Jesus was born, and spent a million dollars a day, every day, from the Nativity to the present day… you still wouldn’t have spent a Trillion dollars.

  10. Ryan Says:

It’s fairly evident that Pelosi doesn’t know what on earth she’s talking about; yet her lips keep flapping and dems keep listening. I saw her on FOX News Sunday last weekend and had to struggle to keep my breakfast down. It is painfully evident that she has no real interest in the well being of this country and that her priorities start and end with her own ego and power.

  11. Betty Says:

It’s quite evident that the Republicans have got to continue opening their mouth so people honestly know what is going on. I am a displeased democrat.

  12. The Sisyphus Files Says:

If a Republican had said something like this, it would be front page news and on “Comedy” Central.
