Hostile Professor Antagonizes Christian Student

Johnathan Lopez, a Christian student at Los Angeles City College, has become the star of what has become a now familiar saga. But as familiar as this story is, it will still make your blood boil:

During the fall 2008 semester, Lopez took an Introduction to Public Speaking (Speech 101) class. It was taught by one John Matteson.

In Speech 101 there are several different speaking assignments, including a delivery speech, a culture speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. For the informative speech, Professor Matteson allowed students to cover any topic and to speak between six and eight minutes with or without visual aids.

In November, Jonathan Lopez attempted to give his informative speech on God and the ways he has seen God act miraculously in his life and in the lives of others. In the middle of that speech, Lopez spoke of God and morality and read the dictionary definition of marriage. He also read two verses from the Bible.

But before Lopez was finished with his speech, Professor Matteson interrupted him. After calling Lopez a “fascist bastard” in front of other students, Matteson invited students to leave the class if they had been offended. When no one left, the professor dismissed the entire class.

As Jonathan Lopez prepared to leave class that day he found an evaluation form left in his backpack by Professor Matteson. There was no grade for the informative speech. Instead there was this instruction: “Ask God what your grade is.” It was followed by a statement saying that “prostyelsyszing [sic] is inappropriate in a public school.”

What happened to – “allowed to cover any topic”? Any topic but religion, apparently. Maybe the good professor should stipulate that next time so there’s no confusion. Something tells me, though, that if a student chose to speak about the glories of Islam, that would have been A-OK. In fact, I would bet any amount of money that that double standard would exist in Matteson’s class.

This was not the first time Professor Matteson’s animus towards Christians had been on display. Several weeks before the aforementioned incident, he told students the following: “If you voted yes on Proposition 8, you are a fascist bastard.”

Hmmm, is anyone else beginning to detect a pattern, here? Read on as Lopez’s problems get even worse.

Henry Waxman Meeting With FCC Staffers To Discuss “A Form Of The Fairness Doctrine”

Of course they’ll call it something else, since “Fairness Doctrine” already has too much opposition. I can’t imagine them topping the impressive Orwellian wording of “The Fairness Doctrine”, though.

The American Spectator Prowler reports:

Senior FCC staff working for acting Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps held meetings last week with policy and legislative advisers to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman to discuss ways the committee can create openings for the FCC to put in place a form of the “Fairness Doctrine” without actually calling it such.

Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. “It’s all about diversity in media,” says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings. “Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them.”

Are they nuts? Seriously. Are they going to force Huffpo and Daily Kos to “present alternative views”, or link to conservative sites? Or would this only apply to conservative sites?

One idea Waxman’s committee staff is looking at is a congressionally mandated policy that would require all TV and radio stations to have in place “advisory boards” that would act as watchdogs to ensure “community needs and opinions” are given fair treatment. Reports from those advisory boards would be used for license renewals and summaries would be reviewed at least annually by FCC staff.

What business is it of the federal government whether “community needs and opinions” are being given “fair treatment”?  I personally tend not to listen to the local shows. There’s a special attraction many of us have to shows we know millions of like minded listeners are tuned in to. 

Camille Paglia, recently appearing on The Mark Simone show, (railing against the Dems in favor of censorship) explained the attraction of so many to nationally syndicated talk shows, calling it, “the unified audience which we actually used to have…what Rush and Sean actually do is essentially recreate the feeling people had in that great period of network television when there were very few shows…so everyone would tune into Ed Sullivan….you didn’t have to like Ed Sullivan, you might get sick of his guests, but the point was he was a shared experience that people once had…”

The central planners want to destroy that – not in the name of “fairness”, but because of the threat that such a unified conservative audience poses to the liberal powers that be.

Naturally, no story about liberal efforts to manipulate public opinion would be complete without the fingerprints of George Soros all over it:

Also involved in “brainstorming” on “Fairness Doctrine and online monitoring has been the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, which has published studies pressing for the Fairness Doctrine, as well as the radical MoveOn.org, which has been speaking to committee staff about policies that would allow them to use their five to six million person database to mobilize complaints against radio, TV or online entities they perceive to be limiting free speech or limiting opinion.

The Center For American Progress and Move on.org are of course, both heavily funded by George Soros.

The American Spectator Prowler also reported on Waxman’s interest in investigating radio talk show hosts in October of ’07.  Staffers were supposedly to compile reports on Limbaugh, Hannity, and Levin to make them “uncomfortable” about what they say on the radio. It remains to be seen whether or not that ever happened.

Meanwhile, ominously, the Obama camp is no longer issuing denials on the Fairness Doctrine. Ed Morrissey asks:

Does this administration believe in free speech or government censorship?  Their sudden inability to provide a clear answer, when they had no problem giving such assurances eight months ago, does not bode well for the answer.

I’d like to say I told you so to all of those who accused us of paranoia, but the window on that ability to do so on the airwaves looks like it’s about to expire — like all of Obama’s campaign promises.

This is going to happen. The Dems are drunk with power, and nothing can stop them right now. Our next chance to do so will be in 2010, which  cannot come soon enough.

I’m seriously thinking of going to this. I remember saying months ago, that the thing we conservatives really could learn from the left is how to get our voices out there – how to be “squeaky wheels”… Let’s face it they’re pretty good at organizing, and protesting, while we’re good at staying home, working, and taking care of our kids. It’s time we started speaking out in a powerful, collective voice.

I thought I’d share this information with you, so you can make your plans in advance, if interested:

Who We Are:
The Patriotic Resistance, an online forum created by Grassfire.org, has within its walls a grassroots organization of citizens from across the United States. This group of citizens shall be called Founding Fathers Cry. Through Resistnet and Founding Fathers Cry we will work to unify groups and organizations to work collectively in accomplishing our goals.

Major Objective:

Is to protect and preserve The Constitution of The United States. Our intended purpose is to issue a notice and written warning to our Congress, Senate and all Elected Officials that they must uphold and protect, and honor the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If therefore, they do not, and continue on their current destructive path we will we take it upon ourselves to promote a method of identifying the wrongs we believe are occurring and a method to demonstrate our dissatisfaction as well what we expect to happen as a result of our actions.

First Action:
A demonstration in Washington D C on May 30, 2009 for the purpose of getting the attention of the Politicians in power during the 111th Congress, and issuing the elected officials Notice as mentioned in the Major Objective above. The March to Restore our Constitution will be a protest that encompasses many issues and groups that will address all 10 of our amendments and every part of our Constitution, making this a truly all enveloping march that can have the support of any and all conservative groups or individuals that in fact make up “We the People” of the Constitution as intended by our Founding Fathers.

The demonstrations to consist of:

1. A group to display our support for the 1st amendment, our concerns and what we are looking for the congress and president to do to resolve them. To lead a demonstration against the revival of the “Fairness Doctrine” that is in direct violation of our 1st amendment Freedom of Speech rights.

2. A group to display support for the 2nd amendment, our concerns that the powers in Washington D C do not accept it as written and are trying to change it. To include our protest of HR45, the Ammunition Accountability Act and other agendas that remove our rights in regard to the second amendment.

3. A group to display support for a secure border, and our concerns that our borders are not secure now and what we expect in order to keep the citizens safe from illegal persons and drugs.

4. A group to display support for The Fairtax Bill of 2009, HR25 and the repeal of the 16th amendment. To demonstrate the benefits of a consumption tax.

5. A group to display support for repealing the 17th amendment and reinstating Section 3 of Article I of the Constitution. Senators elected by and responsible to the state legislators are what were intended by The Founding Fathers.

6. A group to display the “Right to Life” agenda, to demonstrate our opposition to embryonic stem cell research and other liberal policies supporting the pro-choice agenda.

Each group shall have for display banners, hand held signs, t-shirts etc. as well as speakers with the ability to communicate the message of the Group. The plans are for enough demonstrators in each group to hold separate demonstrations at specific locations within the overall demonstration.

Second and Continuing Action:

Continue and build the nation wide grassroots to work in each Congressional District in each state to remove those congresspersons and senators who support policies and government programs that are in opposition to the principles we are grounded in, that being the U S Constitution.

1. Appoint and/or select at least one State Director to for each state to recruit and work with District Coordinators.

2. Search out and appoint congressional District Coordinators as divided by state to recruit and work with Community Leaders.

3. Search out and appoint Community Leaders for every major township and city, who will recruit and build up a network of community members.

The State Directors, District Coordinators, and Community Leaders shall be responsible for recruiting volunteers as well as identifying strong conservative community leaders to run for office in state and national elections. Their responsibilities will include developing educational forums, literature, fundraisers, and community, district, and state events

Thing is… OK  Senator Inhofe is taking it fairly seriously. Very seriously, actually:

Apparently, according to Robert Gibbs, The White House is looking into “the fairness and the constitutionality” of The Fairness Doctrine.

But but but… last November we were told:

“It’s a nice plot line, and lots of people seem to be expending tremendous energy fretting about it. But let’s just say that the imminent reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine is, as Archie Bunker liked to say, a pigment of their imagination”.

Please let us know when it’s okay to fret.

First, it helps to know the tactics being used.  One would need to be a complete ninny not to understand that polarizing our former President was a calculated, well-financed, nearly ubiquitous effort played out in concert by various left-wing 527s and mainstream media useful idiots for the past eight years.

This tactic is becoming well-known and understood, and came straight from Alinsky:
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

A Nation Beguiled

How did a man who received little to no character development in his youth rise to such a high level of power? Kyle-Anne Shiver at The American Thinker unleashes in an unrelenting, unforgiving analysis; reproduced here in part:

As President Obama’s school transcripts (all of them, from start to finish!) remain among his stack of unreleased documents, we have no way of knowing how our current President did in school.  However, we do know that he was doing drugs, that he was not involved in any demanding athletic program and that he was not otherwise making a big name for himself on campus.

One thing -  Actually, Obama was involved with basketball in high school, but sadly, he was usually a bench-warmer. PrestoPundit did some research, (actually, he read his book, Dreams From My Father), and did some psychoanalyzing:

Obama’s driving ambition as a young man was to be a professional basketball player,
and his identity was wrapped up in that dream.  Obama was a failure in
this endeavor.   Obama came to blame his failure on structural
racism, explaining his failure on his coach’s “white” game, which prevented Obama from playing his own “black” game.  He then turned to politics, and put his identity and ambitions into America’s vibrant racialist, socialist political subculture.

Now, back to the American Thinker:

We know also that Obama’s first gig on the mainland was at Occidental College, which is a fine school I am sure, but far from Ivy League.  I’m fairly certain that those grades at Panahou were nothing to brag about, and there is no evidence whatsoever that there was anything else to brag about either.
At Occidental, however, young Barry Obama discovered the one gift that would eventually make up for all other deficiencies: his oratorical talent.  Coupled with natural charisma and an Eddie-Haskell styled ability to guile, Barry Obama had arrived.


This was the story hailed by Axelrod as bedrock, middle-class, Kansan upbringing.

And 52% of the American electorate bought it faster than you can say prime-Florida-swampland-with-a-view-sold-to-dumber-than-dumb-Yankees.
Barry Obama made his entrance into mainland politics by frequenting all the Occidental socialist clubs, rallies and protests, and the first time he took to a podium, his rhetorical talent unveiled itself.  Then, it was off to Columbia and a shadow existence, which eventually culminated in President Barack Obama, the first African-American President and the first man to ever assume the highest office in the land without one whit of experience other than running for office and beguiling a public begging to be beguiled.

Along the always-sunny yellow brick road to the White House, Barry was hailed as brilliant-beyond-brilliant, the veritable savior of his people and in the words of his now Vice President, a “clean, articulate and bright” black man.  Nowhere, at any time during Barack Obama’s near-miraculous rise to power, did he come into contact with anyone that would have demanded a character test.

The characters in this President’s closet are too strange for fiction — Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, the New Party, Billy Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Louis Farrakhan, Mayor Daly, Rod Blagojevich, George Soros, assorted tax cheats and pay-to-play schemers of every variety.  When any sentient person adds it up, he gets a man without principle, someone so enabled in his avoidance of reality about himself that one can only call it Murphy’s Law applied to character development.


Every single thing that could go wrong has indeed gone wrong.

And, oh boy…are we paying for it, now.

Jim Treacher reminds us, Sarah Palin tried to warn us. Remember the speech that set the Obama team back on their heels until the ensuing media pigpile succeeded in painting her as a dim bulb? Looking back, it’s amazing how prescient she was.

Happy Birthday, lady. It’s too bad the nation was too beguiled to heed your warning.

Crunch Time On Stimulus Bill

I know, I know. What chances do we have of stopping it? As Michelle Malkin says, “We are so screwed”. Ann Coulter says, “Goodbye America, It Was Nice While It Lasted”.

But Stop The Stimulus hasn’t stopped trying, and as long as I’m breathing, I won’t either. Tim Phillips of Americans For Prosperity writes in a mass email:

At 2PM tomorrow afternoon, your NoStimulus.com petitions (which at the moment number 395,047) will be officially presented to the United States Senate in an event at the Capitol.  Later in the day, the Senate is expected to make the final vote on the Pelosi/Reid/Obama trillion dollar spending bill.

You’re invited to join us for this presentation if you are in or near Washington.  It will be held in Upper Senate Park at 2PM tomorrow.  I’m sorry we couldn’t give you more notice, but moving the vote up to tomorrow was a surprise move by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to try to jam this disastrous bill through before folks can even read the bill.

If someone tells you this fight is over think about this for a moment. Last Friday, I stood at the Capitol with a band of AFP staff, interns and volunteers as we presented our petitions to Senator Jim DeMint — our free market leader in the Senate.  At that time, we had 69,487 petitions.

Tomorrow, we will present your more than 400,000 petitions and – if you can help us make a final push by sending the site to your friends in next couple of hours – it can be more than 500,000 petitions to the Senate telling them to vote NO on this outrageous spending bill.

Here’s the update on where the battle stands.

Senate and House negotiators are set to agree tonight on a $789 billion bill.  Here’s what we know about the deal:

  • This conference report provides the least tax relief of any version yet, even cutting President Obama’s signature middle class tax cut from $500 per individual and $1000 per couple to $400 and $800.  That takes money out the pockets of regular Americans to pay for more wasteful spending.
  • This conference report gives away as “tax cuts” tens-of-billions of dollars to people WHO DO NOT PAY INCOME TAXES.
  • This conference report, by all accounts, still funds the stealth imposition of health care rationing via so-called “Comparative Evaluation Research,” that would let bureaucrats decides whether people are too old or too sick to receive a treatment.
  • The price tag is still astonishing.  $789 billion might be less than the Senate’s $838 billion, but it’s massively more than the $300 billion this bill originally was proposed at, and still tops a trillion dollars when interest is included.  There’s still $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $600 million to buy cars for government workers, $88 million for ATV and bike trails and so much more waste.  And, go to stimuluswatch.org to see the wish list of earmarks for cities and counties in your area.  It will blow your mind.

With a likely Senate vote tomorrow, time is of the essence.  These are the key action items that could lead to victory tomorrow:

1.  Get at least 3 more people to sign the NoStimulus.com petition. If we have a huge final push we could reach an astonishing half-million signers — or more – before our presentation event tomorrow.

2.  Make 1 last call to your senator. Many of you have done this and we’re so thankful for your standing up.  But, we have just 24  hours to make our final push.  Call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121 or better yet go on-line and call your Senator’s local offices.  If you need talking points go to NoStimulus.com and we’ve got plenty.

3. Consider making a special financial contribution to Americans for Prosperity today. Help us continue to get the word out about the dangers of this no-stimulus bill to literally millions more Americans around the country.  Your support will provide resources to ramp up our “No Stimulus” advertising and outreach on websites like the Drudge Report, FoxNews.com, Townhall.com and others for the final day of this fight so we can generate thousands upon thousands of phone calls into Senate offices.  A gift of $10, $25, $50 – or any amount you could afford – would go a long way toward reaching even more people with our No Stimulus message and mobilizing them to make a difference alongside you and me to STOP the Pelosi/Reid/Obama boondoggle.

You’re making a huge difference.  Yesterday, “Americans for Prosperity” and “No Stimulus Petition” were the top two searches in the nation on Google, and your efforts to drive literally hundreds of thousands of people to our NoStimulus.com website was a featured story on the Yahoo! front page.  Additionally, today you may have seen the number of petition signers ticking upward along the bottom line of the Fox News “ticker.”  You have literally flooded Senate offices with your calls and most of Washington is now going to NoStimulus.com site to view the counter to find out how many folks have signed the petition.

I know the pundits are political prognosticators are saying it’s over and the Pelosi\Reid\Obama trillion dollar bill is a done deal.

But, don’t be discouraged.  Instead, keep fighting.  One petition signer from  Wisconsin, Carla, sent me an email that says exactly why we should keep fighting.  She wrote:

“Tim,

For a week I’ve been so frustrated over this terrible Stimulus bill.  Then in the last day I’ve called both my senators and my congressman.  I’ve signed the NoStimulus.com petition and then forwarded it to my entire email list.  For the first time in my life I even called a local talk radio show to tell people why the bill is so bad.

And you something, I feel so much better because I’m doing all I can do.”

Carla is right.  We can just be frustrated over what these politicians are trying to do to our nation and our economic freedoms.  Or, we can do “all we can do” for our nation.

Here is what we need to do. First everyone should take to the airwaves for the rest of the week, calling talk radio stations that reach Maine and Pennsylvania voters. Your message should be that Senators Specter, Snowe and Collins have made a big mistake by voting for Obama’s trillion dollar debt plan, and that they still have time to switch their votes before the conference report goes back to the Senate later this week. These three Republicans have told the American people that if the bill is loaded with more spending in the conference committee, that they will not support it. We need to hold them to their word, and demand that they vote against the bill. So please take a few minutes and try to alert the people of Pennsylvania and Maine by calling the major talk radio stations there to drive the point home. Try to get whatever radio show is being broadcast right now and tell the host that Dick Armey encouraged you to call and defend liberty by broadcasting your message against the debt plan to hundreds of thousands of people.

Second, if you live in Maine or Pennsylvania, you should channel your energy and anger against the trillion dollar debt plan and take to the streets in protest. Grab a few of your friends and head down to Main Street with signs, handouts and sign-up sheets to recruit those you meet to our cause. The politicians and their staff may be avoiding or screening our phone calls, but we can get our message out directly to the people by leading a public demonstration against their votes for massive debt.

Finally, if you live in a city near one of the Senate regional offices in Maine or Pennsylvania, show up with your group and demand that Senators Specter, Snowe and Collins switch their votes. Thank you for everything you are doing to prevent this nightmare of spending, debt and pork from becoming a reality. Together we can send a message loud and clear that the American people are tired of the politicians performing fiscal child abuse on our children and grandchildren.

Flight 93 Memorial Blogburst #55

Memorial Project officials insist that it was the passengers and crew, not the terrorists, who broke the peace on 9/11

The official explanation for the Crescent of Embrace design is that the path of Flight 93 breaks the circle, turning it into the giant crescent. They call it the Circle of Embrace now, but the Memorial Project’s own website acknowledges that the circle is still broken:

In summary, the memorial is shaped in a circular fashion, and the circle is symbolically “broken” or missing trees in two places, depicting the flight path of the plane, and the crash site…

The fact that the Circle of Embrace is really a broken circle means two things. First, it means that the giant crescent is still there. Architect Paul Murdoch always described the Crescent of Embrace as a broken circle. Our circle of peace was broken on 9/11, with the unbroken part of the circle, what was symbolically left standing in the wake of 9/11, being the giant Islamic shaped crescent.

Adding an extra arc of trees that explicitly represents a broken off part of the circle leaves the unbroken part unchanged. What is symbolically left standing on the Flight 93 crash site is still a giant Islamic-shaped crescent, still pointing to Mecca.

This prompts the question of WHO is being depicted as breaking the circle of peace on 9/11. Of course it can only be the terrorists. Who else can be charged with breaking the peace? The murdered passengers and crew?

Once you realize that it can only be the terrorists who are being depicted as turning the circle into a crescent, it is obvious that this is actually a memorial to the terrorists (if that wasn’t obvious enough already from the Crescent name and the crescent and star flag configuration).

The Memorial Project finally answers our question: insists that it was the passengers and crew who broke the circle

Last spring a couple hundred emailers (thanks!) demanded to know “Who broke the circle?” The Memorial Project issued a boiler-plate response that never got around to answering the question. At the Memorial Project meeting last summer, however, Alec Rawls was able to pigeon-hole Memorial Project Manager Jeff Reinbold and Deputy Superintendent Keith Newlin.

“You can’t just say it was ‘the flight path’ that broke the circle” Rawls admonished. “This is a story of human action. So who did it? In your depiction, who is breaking the circle?”

“The passengers and crew,” said Reinbold.

“But the circle is a symbol of peace,” Rawls continued. “Who broke the peace? It was the TERRORISTS who broke the peace on 9/11.”

Reinbold countered that that the circle is also a Druid symbol, and a Christian symbol.

“But it is still a symbol of peace,” said Rawls, especially as the Memorial Project is using it, with the circle being broken on 9/11, “so who breaks it?”

“It was the passengers and crew,” Newlin repeated, elaborating that: “They are the one’s who brought the plane down.”

“You don’t think it was the terrorists who broke the peace?” Rawls asked.

“They TRIED to break the peace,” said Newlin, “but they failed.”

“Really?” asked Rawls: “They failed to break the peace? What about the 40 murdered heroes?” But Reinbold and Newlin were done talking.

Trying to give credit to the passengers and crew for the outcome of Flight 93 is a perfectly creditable motive on the part of Reinbold and Newlin. They aren’t actually trying to blame the passengers and crew for 9/11. What is shameful is their absolute determination not to admit what they perfectly well understand: that it was the terrorists that broke the peace on 9/11.

If they admit this, then they have to acknowledge that Murdoch’s design can only be a memorial to the terrorists, who are depicted as breaking our peaceful circle and turning it into a giant Islamic-shaped crescent. The depth of Reinbold’s and Newlin’s determination not to admit that it was the terrorists who broke the peace is a measure of how clearly they understand the terrorist-memorializing implications.

They KNOW that this is a memorial to the terrorists, and are twisting themselves into knots to try to cover it up.

Not just a memorial to the terrorists, but victory for the terrorists

If the crescent/broken-circle design is built, it will turn Flight 93 into a victory for the 9/11 terrorists. They will actually have succeeded (with the help of architect Paul Murdoch) in planting a giant Mecca-direction indicator (the central feature of a mosque) on the Flight 93 crash site.

This is how Islam claims territory: by building mosques. Saudi Arabia spent over a seventy-five billion dollars in the last forty years funding mosques and madrassas to spread its murder-cult brand of Islam around the globe. That’s where our present conflict with the Islamic world comes from: Saudi Arabia spreading the violent orthodoxy of Wahabbi Islam around the world.

Now we are poised to build the world’s largest mosque for them, a terrorist memorial mosque, dedicated to the Saudi terrorists who mass-murdered our own countrymen on 9/11, and the Memorial Project KNOWS it. They have to be exposed and stopped.

Five years ago today, Sgt. Patrick Tainsh sacrificed all as the mounted unit he
was part of was hit by an IED in Baghdad. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze and Sliver Stars saving the lives of his commanding officer and other soldiers before succumbing to his own wounds. Also killed in the attack was Pfc. William C. Ramirez from Portland, Oregon.

On Veteran’s Day, 2007, Deborah Tainsh, Sgt. Tainsh’s mother, attended a school in Columbia, Georgia, and shared a story she had written called “A Boy Named Patrick.”

Here is part of the story :

…a little boy named Patrick who loved football, beaches, surfing, and
skateboarding, and especially reading. Patrick watched his dad be a Marine for
over twenty years. During this time Patrick kept reading not only surfing and
skateboarding magazines, but history books, too. One day when Patrick was a man, he told his dad and best friend, “I want to do something that will make a
difference in the world, I’m going to be a soldier.” And so he did. And in 1999
he went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for boot camp and then went to Fort Polk,
Louisiana where he worked and trained hard to become a United States Army
Cavalry Scout. Then in 2003 Patrick had to say good bye to his mom and dad
because he had to go fight a war in Iraq to protect his country, friends, and
family from terrorists and to help fight for the freedoms of the boys and girls
in that country where they and their families were treated very badly by their
country’s leader. Patrick once wrote a letter to his mom and dad telling them
that he cried for the children because they were hungry and he didn’t have food
to give them. He said he couldn’t understand how a country’s leader could treat
the people so badly and make them live in such dirty conditions with trash and
wild dogs everywhere. And so Patrick’s mom and dad keep a photo in their living
room of Patrick surrounded by Iraqi children.

Sgt Tainsh came to the military later than some, but rose through the ranks fast. In his last letter to his parents, Sgt Tainsh shared his thoughts about his mission. And in 2006, Sgt. Tainsh’s mother wrote a book called Heart Of A Hawk about her son’s life and her and her husband’s struggles since their son was killed.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

ABC’s Nightline Host To Obama: “Just Fire The Executives Who Wrecked These Banks”

I heard Rush talking about this on the radio earlier. Unfreakinbelievable. Newsbusters has the transcript:

MORAN: This time, like the Great Depression, it’s the near collapse of the banking system that has helped bring the economy to its knees. There’s one option out there the President rules out. Why not just nationalize the banks?

OBAMA: You know, the scale of the U.S. economy and the capital markets are so vast and the problems in terms of managing and overseeing anything of that scale I think would- our assessment was that it wouldn’t make sense. And we also have different traditions in this country and we want to retain a strong sense of private capital fulfilling the core investment needs of this country.

MORAN: People are angry. There’s so much taxpayer money going into the banks. Why shouldn’t the government – why shouldn’t you just fire the executives who wrecked these banks in the first place and tanked the world’s financial system in the process?

OBAMA: Well, some of them are gone because their institutions have effectively collapsed. You know, keep in mind though there are a lot of banks that are actually pretty well managed. So, what we want to do is to say if you’re take money from the taxpayers then you’re gonna be constrained in terms of how you give yourself compensation and shareholders are gonna be empowered. If you’re not taking money, then you know we’ll let shareholders and boards of directors handle things as they generally have handled them.

Mehbe Teh One should fire all those newspaper execs and auto execs, too, for wrecking their industries.  Hyuck!

Good lord.

Rush railed:

This is supposedly an informed and educated person who’s capable of carrying the Ted Koppel legacy of Nightline: “Why don’t you [the president] just fire these executives who wrecked these banks in the first place and tanked the world’s financial system in the process?”  Why don’t…? The president fire CEOs?  He wants the president to have that kind of power.  Of course the premise of the question was all wrong.  It was not the CEOs at Wall Street that tanked the banks, or the world economy.  Again, it’s Barney Frank, it’s Bill Clinton, it’s Chris Dodd, it’s Fannie Mae, it’s Freddie Mac, it’s the Community Redevelopment Act! It’s the new definition of “affordable housing”: you give people who can’t pay for them, houses.  Folks, as I said, the media, they’re not even curious anymore.  There used to be at least curiosity.  One of the reasons you went into journalism because you were curious and you wanted to be the first to tell people the real truth.  They’re just activists now, and they’re uninformed at the same time.  Pure and simple.

Sept ’08: A $550 Billion Run On Banks Within The Span Of A Few Hours

This is Rep. Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania on CSPAN explaining what former Treasury Secretary Paulson and Fed Chairman Bernanke told congress during the September 2008 closed door session. Pay close attention about 2:15 in:

On Thursday Sept 15, 2008 at roughly 11 AM The Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw down of money market accounts in the USA to the tune of $550 Billion dollars in a matter of an hour or two. Money was being removed electronically.

The Treasury tried to help, opened their window and pumped in $150 Billion but quickly realized they could not stem the tide. We were having an electronic run on the banks. So they decided to closed down the accounts.

Had they not closed down the accounts they estimated that by 2 PM that afternoon. Within 3 hours. $5.5 Trillion would have been withdrawn and the entire economy of the United States would have collapsed, and within 24 hours the world economy would have collapsed.

Some other gems from the recording:

It would have been the end of our economic and political system.

We would have had to spend 3 to 4 Trillion dollars to buy up all the toxic assets. But we didn’t have that much we only had 700 Billion.

Without a banking system you don’t have an economy.

We are no better off now than we were three months ago.

Someone threw us in the middle of the Atlantic ocean without a life raft. We are trying to determine which is the closest shore and whether there is any chance in the world to swim that far. We don’t know.

Now, I’m not a stock market wiz, but isn’t that a crazy amount of money to be removed in just the matter of a few hours?  I understand that the banks were already in trouble, but  it seems reasonable to suspect malicious manipulation.  At the time, Mike Huckabee wondered if it was “economic terrorism”:

If you remember, John McCain’s Presidential prospects essentially ended with this financial crisis: Scott Rassmussen reported:

The week of September 8-14 McCain was ahead for the first time – but by only one point. Obama reclaimed a one-point lead the following week. Basically the race was tied going into the last six weeks of the campaign.

Then on September 15, the 158-year-old investment banking firm of Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy protection, marking the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history. The bursting housing bubble had hit Wall Street. Other firms fell like dominoes, and the resulting “financial meltdown” dominated the front pages. The Bush Administration stepped in with a proposal for unprecedented federal government involvement in the private sector and hammered out an agreement with the Democratic-led Congress. There was plenty of blame to go around, but for voters it was the final nail in the coffin of the Bush years and Republican governance.

Also via Atlas, The American Thinker reported in January:

The FDIC has just announced that a consortium of private equity and hedge fund firms would be buying IndyMac. IndyMac was an independent “bridge bank” spun off of Countrywide Mortgage in the late 90s.  IndyMac acted as a “bridge bank” to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

New York Democrat Charles Shumer precipitated the fall of IndyMac in May of 2008 by releasing “inside” information that the mortgage company was in dire financial straits. This disclosure created the initial “bank run” that is credited by many economists as the initial trigger that prompted the current mortgage crisis. The FDIC took over the operations of IndyMac in late summer of 2008.So much for history. George Soros is in on the deal to buy IndyMac from the FDIC. Soros has a long history of making loads of money by first creating a financial crisis and then stepping in to grab up the bargains. Perhaps the most famous example of this tactic is “Black Wednesday,” when Soros nearly sunk the entire economy of Great Britain through currency speculation.


Anyone know how to connect these dots?

I missed Rush talking about this today, and yesterday, but he has the CSPAN video up on his website, and he’s asking the same question: Who tried to crash the world economy — and why?

Now, we’ve gotta allow here for some exaggeration.  It’s amazing this was said on C-SPAN on Thursday, January 27th, and nobody picked up on it.  We got it from a website called LiveLeak.  They were rummaging through things, and they found this.  Now, let’s assume for a second here that elements of this are true.  Let’s assume that there was a $550 billion run, electronic run on the banks and money market accounts in one to two hours.  The question is who was doing this?  Who was withdrawing all this money?  And the next question is why?  That’s where my mind starts exploding, and this is dangerous to have these explosions going this way.  Could it have been George Soros?  Could it have been a consortium of countries — Russia, China, Venezuela — countries that are eager to have Barack Obama elected because they know that will make it easier for them to continue their own foreign policies in the world?  In the meantime, five-and-a-half billion dollars in one to two hours, that can probably be confirmed.  The five-and-a-half trillion is speculation based on the rate at which money was coming out.  We could check that the Fed stopped the trading windows, they closed the window. We do know they were pumping money into the system left and right.  And remember when the Federal Reserve loaned elements, $2 trillion and we weren’t told who got the money?  And we still haven’t been told who got the money.

This should be a much bigger story.

Latest Polling Shows Increasing Public Opposition To Porkulus

ATI-News/Zogby has a new poll out, and not surprisingly, public approval for the Generational Theft Act masquerading as an “economic recovery plan” is tanking:

90 Percent of Republicans and 60 Percent of Independents Oppose Obama Economic Recovery Plan

Question #3:

ATI-News/Zogby asked voters, “Most Republicans oppose the currently proposed stimulus bill supported by President Obama because they say there is too much money being spent for non-stimulus items. Do you agree or disagree that too much money is being spent on items that won’t improve the economy?”

Sixty-six percent of Independent voters think Obama wants to spend too much money on items that won’t improve the economy. As for Republicans, a staggering 93 percent agree.

Gee, what do you know? A lot of Americans seem to disapprove of  massive funding for non stimulative items….or pork.

But but but…How can that be? Chucky Schumer said we don’t care about pork!

Seriously, these are devastating numbers. That’s why the Dems want to rush this through so quickly.

But I’m guessing they figure that this will all blow over. The idea is to get their programs installed, expand the reach of  government, and make people more dependent on the Government for jobs, and programs, so they will continue to vote for Dems. ACORN will make sure they all get registered (and registered, and registered).

This bill should really be called the Democrat Empowerment Bill. It won’t matter how much they harm the economy, it won’t matter that we’re diving headfirst into a  murky pool of  socialized health-care, expanded welfare, and government funded massive vote fraud.  As long as enough Americans (and illegals) are on the public dole, and working for the government, they won’t vote against self interest.

So really, what you and I think now, is just a minor annoyance to these people.

Woohoo. Elections have consequences, yes-siree-Bob!

Rassmussen Reports:

75% say the federal government should not take over the U.S. banking system.

Only nine percent (9%) think nationalization of America’s banks is a good idea, and 16% are undecided in a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Also:

Two-thirds of the nation’s voters (69%) lack confidence that Congress knows what it is doing when it comes to addressing the country’s current economic problems. Just 29% are even somewhat confident in the legislators.

You Own It Dems

Let’s not pretend that the Generational Theft Act is a bipartisan bill because three RINO squishes who couldn’t even be bothered to read the bill, voted for it. You can have them. They may as well switch sides, and good riddance . They are no asset to Republicans, what-so-ever.

So, Obama really doesn’t need to keep campaigning for his “Recovery Plan”. He doesn’t really need to persuade any more Republicans, so why does he keep trying?

The “stimulus” is just what we need to avert “disaster”, right? Hooray for Obama and the Dems in Congress. You passed it, you own it.

0 conservative economists support this abomination. 0 conservative Republicans in Congress support it.

And we Republicans are going to be reminding you of this over and over and over again in the disastrous months to come.

The No Stimulus blog insists the fight is not over:

We still have two chances to win in the House or Senate!

The Senate mustered 61 votes to squeak through the Collins/Nelson amendment, better known as the “compromise” stimulus plan.

If you listen to the mainstream media, this means the fight is over, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and President Obama win, and it’s time to move on. Not so fast!

The bill will go to a conference committee to work out differences between the House and Senate versions. The conference committee will be a brand-new feeding frenzy of wasteful pork projects.

Whatever comes out of conference committee will be another very tough vote in both the House and Senate.

If we keep the pressure on, we can win!

Ahmadinejad Graciously Makes Offer For Dialogue With U.S.

Unlike Obama’s offer of unconditional dialogue with Iran, however, Ahmadinejad’s offer to hold talks does come with a condition:

“The new U.S. administration has said that it wants change and it wants to hold talks with Iran,” Mr. Ahmadinejad said.

“It is clear that change should be fundamental, not tactical, and our people welcome real changes,” he said. “Our nation is ready to hold talks based on mutual respect and in a fair atmosphere.”

Mr. Ahmadinejad went on to say that Iran could cooperate with the United States to uproot terrorism in the region. “The Iranian nation is the biggest victim of terrorism,” he said.

But he referred to former President Bush as one of reasons for insecurity in the region and said, “Bush and his allies should be tried and punished.”

“If you really want to uproot terrorism, let’s cooperate to find the initiators of the recent wars in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region, try them and punish them,” he said.

It’s amazing how often America’s enemies are on the same page with the American left….including Obama. You can’t blame Ahmadinejad for the audacity of his hope.
