Orlando Tea Party Draws 3000 UPDATE:Or More

Sixty days into the new era of hope and change, receding oceans, and skittle-shitting unicorns:

orlando

CF News 13:

Protesters said *they felt the multi-billion dollar stimulus package will not do enough to help stimulate the economy, and that the bill was rushed through before most lawmakers even had the chance to read it.

A media release announcing the event said the rally’s aim was to show politicians that they were tired of bailouts and “wasteful Washington spending.”

Police said there were no problems at the rally.

Of course not…these are law abiding,  conservative people.

Rassmussen has bad news for Obama:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 36% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-two percent (32%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of +4 (see trends).

This puts Obama below where the much reviled President Bush was at this time in his Presidency. But at least our overseas allies are still on board with the Obama Express, right?

Maybe Obama’s brown shirted canvassers ( do not alert Godwin….click on link if you don’t believe me) should start hitting these tea parties to inform the ignorant masses about dear leader’s “bold plan to strengthen the American economy”.  Because from the looks of it, people are dubious. In fact, I think it’s safe to say, people are calling b.s. on Dear Leader in increasing numbers.

In the meantime, His Highness can go on 60 Minutes, (sans teleprompter) and beclown himself.

*Someone was clearly either misinterpreting what they were hearing, or was consciously trying to slant the reporting. Nobody and I do mean nobody who goes to these tea parties would say that the freakin’ stimulus was “not enough”.

UPDATE:

Here’s a great gallery of pix from the Orlando tea party, via Instapundit.

UPDATE II:

Shelly from Floridians Unite says the crowd at the Orlando tea party was more like 5,000-6,000, according to the city and police on site.

UPDATE III:

More Pictures here and here.

See Michelle Malkin for more on all of this Saturday’s tea parties.

All via Instapundit, who’s been a tea-party-coverin’ fool since they started about a month ago.  Kudos to him for giving them the attention they should be getting from the MSM.

Are You Ready To Pledge Your Loyalty To Lord Obama?

You may be asked to this weekend:

Jeez…did you notice? They’re even wearing brown shirts!

If  one of these folks confronts me this weekend…I’m going to politely ask him how in the @3$#@!1!! – &^$%  Obama expects to pay for all of these “bold plans”.

A printout of this post by Gateway Pundit might ward them off, too.

Thanks to the indispensable Naked Emperor News.

UPDATE:

Heh. A commenter at SondraK’s came up with his own pledge drive to offer the moonbats canvassers.

A Version Of Obama’s Civilian Service Corps Approved By House

obamayouth2

Is the media through giving Obama a free pass? It sure looks like it. That’s good, because there’s stuff coming down the pike that needs to be investigated, and closely scrutinized, and fast.

It’s time someone in the MSM took a good look at Obama’s plans for a volunteer/mandatory Civilian Corps; a version of which was just approved in the US House of Representatives.

WND reports:

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a plan to set up a new “volunteer corps” and consider whether “a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people” should be developed.

The legislation also refers to uniforms” that would be worn by the “volunteers” and the “need” for a “public service academy”, a 4-year institution” to “focus on training” future “public sector leaders.” The training, apparently, would occur at “campuses.”

Instead of camps?

The vote yesterday came on H.R. 1388, which reauthorizes through 2014 the National and Community Service Act of 1990 and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973, acts that originally, among other programs, funded the AmeriCorps and the National Senior Service Corps.

It not only reauthorizes the programs, but also includes “new programs and studies” and is expected to be funded with an allocation of $6 billion over the next five years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Many, however, are raising concerns that the program, which is intended to include 250,000 “volunteers,” is the beginning of what President Obama called his “National Civilian Security Force” in a a speech last year in which he urged creating an organization as big and well-funded as the U.S. military. He has declined since then to elaborate.

Canada Free Press reports:

The Give Act puts the finishing touches to Public Allies New Leadership for New Times, modeled after Saul Alinsky’s “Peoples Organizations” and operating under Michelle Obama with an alleged operating budget of more than $75-million a year.  According to a Fact Sheet About Public Allies, “President Obama was a member of the founding advisory board of the non-profit organization.

Michelle Obama was the founding Executive Director of Public Allies Chicago from Spring, 1993 until Fall 1996 (italics CFP’s).  She served on Public Allies national board of directors from 1997 until 2002. Obama was no longer on the board when Michelle was hired.

Michelle was also a pioneer in the social entrepreneur movement–leaders who create new approaches and organize to provide new solutions to social problems.

Like most things Saul Alinsky, H.R. 1388 sounds noble in stating why wide-sweeping change is necessary.  “The Give Act” aims to “leverage investments to increase State, local, business and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges.”

Comprehensive in its power, H.R. 1388 goes straight to the heart of volunteerism in America, impacting everything from the lemonade stands of neighbourhood children, to the residents of senior citizens homes.

So far, the only media to have taken an interest in these disturbing plans have been right wing blogs. First, our ears perked up when we heard Michelle Obama speak these weirdly authoritarian words:

“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zone . . . Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual – uninvolved, uninformed.”

Then, last summer at a campaign rally in Colorado Springs, Obama took the occasion to introduce his plan to implement a “National Civilian Security Force”, in which he described an organization “as big and well-funded as the U.S. military”.

Media outlets were so perturbed by Obama’s bizarre words,  they airbrushed them out of the  published transcripts of the speech.

And then, right after he was elected, he raised eyebrows again with this audacious change.gov “Office of the President Elect” website post:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve america, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school, and 100 hours of community service in collge every year.

See? There’s that word, “require”, again, which was eventually scrubbed from the site when an internet uproar ensued.

And who can forget Rahm Emanuel’s words from his 2006 tome, The Plan: Big Ideas for America, which we didn’t hear about until after the election:

It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.

How about not?

Now that a form of this plan has been passed by the House, could we possibly get someone in the media to please take an interest? I suspect most Americans would be creeped out by this. But they have to know about it, first.

Firestorm Erupts Over Politically Incorrect Remark

Washington is abuzz about the latest faux pas from a certain somebody who should know better.

A powerful Senator isn’t pulling any punches over what he deems is a profoundly insensitive comment:

“I understand it was meant as self deprecating humor,” the Senator told ABC News, “but I would also say that there’s nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anyone with disabilities. And I would hope that NBC has that same attitude.”

The Senator said he appeared once on Leno’s show two years ago, and “I have no intention of returning.”

“He didn’t just cross the line. He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that  young people with learning disorders are having to deal with today in America. The notion that  young, mentally disabled men and women — who I hope will be athletes — that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It’s one that I’m not interested in supporting.”

PSYCHE!

Guess who that powerful Senator was? That was Obama two years ago, (slightly edited) talking about Don Imus’ nappy headed ho comment:

“I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus,” Obama told ABC News, “but I would also say that there’s nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude.”

Obama said he appeared once on Imus’ show two years ago, and “I have no intention of returning.”

Racial Slur Stirs Trouble for Shock Jock

Last week, Imus referred to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, most of whom are African-American, as “nappy-headed hos.” He has since apologized for his remarks, and CBS and MSNBC suspended his show for two weeks.

“He didn’t just cross the line,” Obama said. “He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women — who I hope will be athletes — that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It’s one that I’m not interested in supporting.”

Though every major presidential candidate has decried the racist remarks, Obama is the first one to say Imus should lose his job for them.

If I remember right, Imus did indeed lose his job. It remains to be seen whether or not this unfortunate remark becomes more than just another small blip in the tsunami of FAIL that is the Obama Presidency.

Thanks to commenter Damiano at Ace of Spades Hq for the idea.

And yeah, I totally stole  “tsunami of FAIL”  from Jones in CO.

UPDATE:

Newsbusters reports that:

NYT’s web-posting concerning Obama’s “Tonight Show” appearance didn’t cover his Special Olympics faux pas. Ditto USA Today. And AP. And MSNBC.com.

From what I can tell, of the major outlets — not including blogs — only the Christian Science Monitor and FoxNews.com covered this.

However, Obama’s probably starting to regret the shabby treatment he’s given the Brits…

Megyn Kelly Interviews Oily ACORN Spokesman Scott Levenson

Megyn Kelly asks Levenson why Americans shouldn’t be concerned that the radical and thoroughly corrupt group, ACORN, is going to be involved in the 2010 census.

His specialty, if you remember him from the 2008 election, is the interview filibuster: talking over the interviewer when he/she starts making points damaging to his beloved ACORN. She ends up having to cut his mike:

Wednesday’s Hero: Kevin George Baker

kevinbakerKevin Baker

navykp4

Kevin George Baker, a disabled Navy veteran, had been riding his hand-propelled bicycle from his hometown through Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to Marseilles, Illinois to support a new flag designed to honor fallen members of the military. His trip began at his home on Saturday, March 7 and sadly ended on March 13 when he passed away in his sleep. Baker, who is unable to use his legs due to a neurological impairment, was flying the Honor and Remember Flag from his bike and encouraged people along the way to sign a petition urging Congress to adopt the flag as a new national symbol by passing HR Bill 1034.

Outrage After Outrage After Outrage

Nice Deb only has time for two or three posts a day, and these days, she’s feeling rather overwhelmed. My intention is not to be primarily an “anti-Obama” site, but he leaves me no choice. How can I not comment on these daily outrages and faux pas?  How can I take a break from politics, and write about  light hearted and interesting stories in the news, if virtually everything the man does is an embarrassment and/or God-awful violation of everything patriotic Americans hold dear?

Just in the past few days, these stories have hit the news/blogs:

A  proposal, intended to save the Department of Veterans Affairs $530 million a year, to authorize the VA to bill private insurance companies for the treatment of injuries and medical conditions related to military service, such as amputations, post-traumatic stress disorder and other battle wounds.

COB6 of This Ain’t Hell is calling on General Erik K. Shinseki, the new head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, to resign in protest.

I haven’t blogged about this, because frankly, the milblogs have it pretty much covered, and I have nothing unique or particularly insightful to contribute, other than WTF?!

UPDATE:

Obama has backed away from the proposal.

President Obama will not pursue a proposal that would have allowed the VA to charge private insurance companies for the treatment of veterans with service- and war-related injuries. The proposal raised the ire of prominent Democrats on the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs panels. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was the first to announce Wednesday afternoon that the president won’t pursue such a proposal.

It’s scary that it was even under consideration.

•Barack Obama makes his first appellate court appointment, and it’s a doozy:

David Hamilton will be moving from the federal district court  to the Seventh Circuit.

Hamilton has been involved in several controversial cases. In 2005, he ruled that the daily invocation of the Indiana House too often referred to Jesus Christ and a Christian god, in violation of the Constitution, which forbids the government to show preference for any religious denomination. The decision was overturned on appeal on technical grounds.

In 2003, Hamilton struck down part of an Indiana law requiring abortion clinics to give women information about alternatives to abortion in the presence of a physician or nurse. The information had to be given to women 18 hours before the procedure, requiring them to make two visits to the doctor’s office to obtain the procedure. That decision was also overturned on appeal.

Incredibly, Obama characterizes Hamilton as a “model of moderation”.

It’s far from clear what justifies the article’s characterization of Hamilton as a “moderate” (or, as the article oddly puts it, as “represent[ing] some of his state’s traditionally moderate strain”—how does one represent some of a strain?).  Was it perhaps Hamilton’s service as vice president for litigation, and as a board member, of the Indiana branch of the ACLU?  Or maybe Hamilton’s extraordinary seven-year-long series of rulings obstructing Indiana’s implementation of its law providing for informed consent on abortion?  That obstruction elicited this strong statement (emphasis added) from the Seventh Circuit panel majority that overturned Hamilton:

For seven years Indiana has been prevented from enforcing a statute materially identical to a law held valid by the Supreme Court in Casey, by this court in Karlin, and by the fifth circuit in Barnes. No court anywhere in the country (other than one district judge in Indiana [i.e., Hamilton]) has held any similar law invalid in the years since Casey. Although Salerno does not foreclose all pre-enforcement challenges to abortion laws, it is an abuse of discretion for a district judge to issue a pre-enforcement injunction while the effects of the law (and reasons for those effects) are open to debate.

Or perhaps Hamilton’s inventive invocation of substantive due process to suppress evidence of a criminal defendant’s possession of cocaine, a ruling that, alas, was unanimously reversed by the Seventh Circuit?

MORE:

Just great. The American Spectator calls Hamilton, ACORN’s Federal Judge. Of course.

•Obama appoints a “Minister of Culture”:

Obama administration has decided to appoint Kareem Dale to oversee culture in America.

President Barack Obama has established a staff position in the White House to oversee arts and culture in the Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs under Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser, a White House official confirmed. Kareem Dale, right, a lawyer who last month was named special assistant to the president for disability policy, will hold the new position.

Ed Morrissey has some questions about this:

…why does America need a Minister of Culture, or even an Assistant Sub-Under Secretary/Receptionist for Cultural Affairs?  Did the Constitution give the executive power to shape culture?  Or did Obama suddenly run out of work and needed to find something to do with his time and energy?

We know the latter isn’t true.  After all, according to the latest at the White House website, Obama still has yet to fill seventeen of eighteen top-level positions at Treasury.  Obama has yet to nominate most of the Senate-confirmation-required positions in his administration, but Obama insists that economics has been his priority in his first two months as President., while so many crucial ones

Instead of appointing Ministers of Culture, maybe the Obama administration should focus on selecting people to handle economics.  If he did that, perhaps we would get less Deadbeatonomics and more sanity.  We need that a lot more than cultural advisers in this White House.

When we are going through tough economic times, and watching the deficit quadruple by the end of the year, why on earth would Obama add an utterly unnecessary post, while so many crucial ones remain unfilled? Political payback?

•The Obama administration decides to disarm pilots:

Hot Air:

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

As Ace said, If you don’t trust a pilot to carry a gun, what the f*** are you doing allowing him at the controls of a plane carrying 300 people?”

•ACORN To Assist Obama Administration With 2010 Census:

What could go wrong?

•Obama’s faux AIG outrage:

The AP:

Cue the outrage. For months, the Obama administration and members of Congress have known that insurance giant AIG was getting ready to pay huge bonuses while living off government bailouts. It wasn’t until the money was flowing and news was trickling out to the public that official Washington rose up in anger and vowed to yank the money back.

Gateway Pundit piles on:

Glenn Reynolds reported that Pelosi-Obama Stimulus Bill explicitly guaranteed contractual bonuses executed before February 11. It looks like Democratic Senator Dodd, who is already in hot water, was the one who slipped this provision into the bill.

And, there’s this
Contributions To Obama Campaign Track Bailout Money. “In receiving $43.5 billion for their investment of just over $3.3 million, it looks like the banks that gambled on Wall Street certainly got their money’s worth out of their investment in Barack Obama.”
Why is this not surprising?

UPDATE: This is good… Barack Obama received his own $101,332 “bonus” from AIG.

MORE from Ace:

Dodd Admits He Slipped In Bonus-Permitting Language, But Only on Demand of Obama’s Treasury Officials….

Of course Obama has only filled one position in the Treasury dept.

•Obama’s ridiculous reliance upon his teleprompter continues to embarrass:

A teleprompt blunder has led to Barack Obama thanking himself in a speech at the White House in a St Patrick’s Day celebration.

Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was just a few paragraphs into an address in Washington when he realised it all sounded a bit too familiar.

It was. He was repeating the speech President Barack Obama had just read from the same teleprompter.

Mr Cowen stopped, turned to the president and said: “That’s your speech.”

A laughing Mr Obama returned to the podium to take over but it seems the script had finally been switched and the US president ended up thanking himself for inviting everyone to the party.

You would think that he would have discovered the problem before he had gotten to the point of actually thanking himself.

Rush Limbaugh has taken to referring to Obama as a duel entity: (Obama and his teleprompter). He also stated unequivocally, today,  that he hopes Obama’s  teleprompter fails, too.

•Obama’s new spiritual adviser another far left practitioner of Liberation theology:

Now that he no longer draws spiritual succor from Jeremiah Wright—the America-hating, racist demagogue who served as his pastor and spiritual mentor for twenty years—Barack Obama has turned elsewhere for guidance in the task of carrying out his political duties while remaining true to his religious values.

The most notable of his spiritual advisors today is his friend of many years, Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of the Sojourners organization. Says Wallis, “We’ve [he and Obama] been talking faith and politics for a long time.”

See FrontPageMagazine for the full report.

•Obama overturns the Bush (43) executive order on stem cell research, “restoring scientific integrity to government decision-making”.

The implication being that Bush’s position was dictated by “dogma, ideology and politics”.

Charles Krauthammer, who was invited to the signing ceremony, but declined, claims he would have walked out.

What an outrage. Bush’s nationally televised stem cell speech was the most morally serious address on medical ethics ever given by an American president. It was so scrupulous in presenting the best case for both his view and the contrary view that until the last few minutes, the listener had no idea where Bush would come out.

Obama’s address was morally unserious in the extreme. It was populated, as his didactic discourses always are, with a forest of straw men. Such as his admonition that we must resist the “false choice between sound science and moral values.” Yet, exactly 2 minutes and 12 seconds later he went on to declare that he would never open the door to the “use of cloning for human reproduction.”

Does he not think that a cloned human would be of extraordinary scientific interest? And yet he banned it.

Is he so obtuse as not to see that he had just made a choice of ethics over science? Yet, unlike Bush, who painstakingly explained the balance of ethical and scientific goods he was trying to achieve, Obama did not even pretend to make the case why some practices are morally permissible and others not.

PJ O’Roarke piles on:

….the president puts it, “Many thoughtful and decent people are conflicted about, or strongly oppose this research. And I understand their concerns, and I believe that we must respect their point of view.”

Mr. President, sir, if this is your respect, I’d rather have your contempt or your waistline or something other than what you’re giving me here. The more so because in the next sentence you say,

But after much discussion, debate and reflection, the proper course has become clear. The majority of Americans–from across the political spectrum, and of all backgrounds and beliefs–have come to a consensus that we should pursue this research.

Mr. President, you’re lying. There is no consensus. And you are not only wrong about the relationship between facts and morals, you are wrong about the facts of democracy. In America we have a process called voting–I seem to remember you were once very interested in it. We the citizens determine whether and how to spend the proceeds of taxation, which we alone are empowered to impose upon ourselves through our elected representatives in Congress, not the White House. If you want to kill little, bitty babies, get Congress to pass a law to kill little, bitty babies, if you can. I’m not going to bother arguing with you about whether it’s wrong. Surely you too gazed at the sonogram screen and saw a thumb-sized daughter tumbling in the womb, having the time of her life. And a short life it will be, in a Petri dish. But we’ve already established that you don’t know wrong from right.

•Janet Napolitano,  Obama’s new Homeland Security Secretary Comes Up With “Nuanced” New Euphemism for Terrorism:

In my speech, although I did not use the word “terrorism,” I referred to “man-caused” disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

“Man-caused” disasters?!

You see what I mean? This is only a partial list of the b.s. coming out of this administration, and I need to quit blogging, now, because I have things to do, today. Who can keep up with all of this insanity? The stupidity and incompetence we are confronted with day after day is just mindboggling.

I grow weary of it. Can’t he do just one thing right, so I can take a break?

UPDATE:

Now this from the Washington Times:

•Obama profits off kiddie propaganda project:

As he empathized with recession-weary Americans, President Obama arranged in the days just before he took office to secure a $500,000 advance for a children’s book project, a disclosure report shows.

The book is to be an abridged version of  Dreams From My Father, for middle school kids.

“I don’t recall any sitting president entering into a book deal,” said campaign finance lawyer Jan Baran, former general counsel to the Republican National Committee. “They all have historically done that after they leave office.

“I recall the only ones who did sign book deals while living there were first ladies, and my recollection is they gave it to charity.”

As Drew at Ace of Spades HQ said, “It’s almost like the rules and traditions of the office don’t apply to Him or something”.

UPDATE II (March 19):

The outrages are coming fast and furious, these days. How about this to get your blood pressure up?:

•Obama administration plans to release GITMO detainees inside the U.S.

Attorney General Eric Holder said some detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, may end up being released in the U.S. as the Obama administration works with foreign allies to resettle some of the prisoners.

Mr. Holder, in a briefing with reporters, said administration officials are still reviewing individual cases of the approximately 250 detainees to determine which will be put on trial and which may be released to comply with plans to close the detention facility by next year.

Ed Morressey makes the brilliant point that apparently hasn’t crossed the minds of our betters in the Obama administration:

What a great idea for national security!  Why, most of these fellows could never have made it inside the US had we not captured and detained them on the battlefield.  Now we’ll just bring them in ourselves, bypassing all of those nasty border- and transportation-security systems designed just to keep these very radical Islamist terrorists from entering the country.  Brilliant!

Why will Holder consider releasing them in the US?  The Obama administration found out that talk is cheap among our European allies.  Most of the detainees can’t return to their home countries, because their home countries will either kill them (Saudi Arabia, China), torture them and then kill them (Egypt), or send them straight back to al-Qaeda with lovely parting gifts (Yemen).  Obama wants Europe to take them, since most of Europe spent the last seven years criticizing Gitmo and demanding their release.  Now that Obama actually called their bluff, Europe suddenly discovers that they don’t want dangerous terrorists in their back yards, either.

Call it a survival impulse that the Obama administration lacks.

I wonder which lucky American communities will be taking in these wayward practitioners of “Man made disasters”.

ONE MORE:

Via Pirate’s Cove:

•The White House leaks to the press their covert plans in Pock-ee-stahn. Brilliant.

OKAY, THE LAST ONE, I PROMISE,  BEFORE I START A NEW THREAD:

•Obama insults the mentally disabled on Jay Leno.

The President of the United States, appearing on the Jay Leno show:

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he’s gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

“That’s very good, Mr. President,” Leno said sarcastically.

It’s “like the Special Olympics or something,” the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House had no comment.

The remark will almost certainly be edited out of the show. I would watch, but I need to clean my kitchen cabinets, so darn the luck, I’m gonna miss it. But I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough that it was.

Also, Newsbusters is reporting that:

NYT’s web-posting concerning Obama’s “Tonight Show” appearance didn’t cover his Special Olympics faux pas. Ditto USA Today. And AP. And MSNBC.com.

From what I can tell, of the major outlets — not including blogs — only the Christian Science Monitor and FoxNews.com covered this.

Snap!

Apparently the remark was not edited out. See Newsbusters for video.

The truth about Barack Obama’s Irish teleprompter “gaffe”

l’d still like to see that video.

ACORN To Aid Obama Administration With 2010 Census

obacornlog003Photoshop credit: Leo Alberti

Hey, what could go wrong, right?

ACORN, the largest, radical organization in America,  will be assisting Obama and Democrats with the 2010 US census, the control of which, in what many are calling a purely political maneuver, has  been recently moved  from the Commerce Dept. to the White House.

Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reminds us of Obama’s history of working  with ACORN -  a history he tried to downplay during the election season:

One of Barack Obama’s first big “community organizer” jobs involved ACORN in 1992. Obama also trained ACORN employees. He represented ACORN in court. Obama worked with and protested with ACORN. His campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN this year for voter registration efforts.
And, ACORN even canvassed for Obama this year.

Obama also famously promised ACORN in Dec. 07, that he would let them help him shape his Presidential agenda. Part of their agenda this year, has been to engage in  a campaign of “civil disobediance” by breaking into foreclosed homes all across the country to reclaim them for the former owners. At least one arrest has been made in connection to these efforts, thus far.

Michelle Malkin called this the Laugh line of the day:

“The Census (Bureau) is a nonpartisan, non-political agency and we’re very dedicated to an accurate account,” bureau spokesman Stephen Buckner told FOXNews.com. “We have a lot of quality controls in place to keep any kind of systemic error or fraudulent behavior to affect the counts.”

FOX News reports:

The U.S. Census is supposed to be free of politics, but one group with a history of voter fraud, ACORN, is participating in next year’s count, raising concerns about the politicization of the decennial survey.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now signed on as a national partner with the U.S. Census Bureau in February 2009 to assist with the recruitment of the 1.4 million temporary workers needed to go door-to-door to count every person in the United States — currently believed to be more than 306 million people.

A U.S. Census “sell sheet,” an advertisement used to recruit national partners, says partnerships with groups like ACORN “play an important role in making the 2010 Census successful,” including by “help[ing] recruit census workers.”

Well, this should come as no surprise. Obama has such a special special connection with this community organizer group, he’s willing to overlook their less than fastidious methods of data collection:

So now this group is going to be trusted to help with the recruitment of people who will be going door to door to count every person in America. Are they still “thinking about” doing those background checks on future employees, I wonder?

UPDATE:

Here’s Megyn Kelly talking to a Republican Congressman from Utah about the controversy:

Maybe this abomination can be stopped if we make enough noise…The Washington Times reports today:

A lawyer for a whistleblower on the activist group ACORN is prepared to tell a House panel Thursday that the group provided liberal causes with protest-for-hire services and coerced donations from the targets of demonstrations through a mob-style “protection” racket.

ACORN called it the “muscle for the money” program, according to prepared testimony Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh plans to deliver at a hearing of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights and civil liberties.

A copy of her prepared testimony was obtained by The Washington Times.

The protest shakedowns are among a slew of accusations that Ms. Heidelbaugh intends to make against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. She also will accuse the nonprofit group of violating tax, campaign-finance and other laws by sharing a list of President Obama’s maxed-out campaign donors to solicit more funds for a get-out-the-vote drive.

Read the whole thing. ACORN is about to get a whole lot of unwelcome attention.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Ireland’s greatest contributions to the world, (besides St. Patrick, of course) has been its music and dance, in my humble opinion. Here’s Jean Butler, the original (and best) female lead in Riverdance, doing her slip jig:

Extra bonus. I found this video of Miss Butler from a few years earlier – 1991, performing her hornpipe for the Chieftains:

Video: “Republican Cabal” Trots Out Dick Cheney?

This is so beneath the dignity of a White House spokesperson:

I love how he pauses after the question is asked…his mind searching for something clever to retort…..and how he brightens up when he thinks of how he can work Rush Limbaugh into his answer.

But now I’m confused. Wasn’t the Limbaugh strategy supposed to be abandoned? Maybe Mr. Gibbs didn’t get the memo.

Obama Fingers

A  German food company,Sprehe, capitalizing on the current popularity of American food, and Obamamania, offers consumers this tasty looking product:

DEU Obama Fingers

Unfortunately, the race issue has raised its ugly head. Charles Hawley of  Spiegel Online worries:

For Americans in Germany, though, there is a risk that the product might be seen as racially insensitive. Fried chicken has long been associated with African-Americans in the US — naming strips of fried chicken after the first black president could cause some furrowing of brows.

To be quite honest, naming any food after a current American President causes my brow to furrow. When will this madness end?

UPDATE:

HA! Don’t look now, but Michelle Malkin has an Obama Fingers photoshop contest going on at her website. Thanks to wxwzrd, for the heads up.

HEH!:

See America is an Obamanation for the perfect photoshop.

UPDATE II:

I may have to start a new category just for the food related Obamamania. Because even as Obama’s poll numbers drop, Obama delectables seem to be on the increase:

Leawood Tea Party

pv29

This one was organized less than a week before the protest date…very spur of the moment, with very little advertising.  I thought I’d check it out after I dropped my daughter off for dance class, and was surprised to see a decent sized crowd of over 100 people. Again, lots of approving honks from the cars passing by. And this time, reporters from the local media were there.

The signs are getting more and more creative:

UPDATE:

See Michelle Malkin for coverage of the HUGE tea party in Cincinnati – 5000 people.

Interested in getting involved? Go to Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party for an April 15 protest near you.

UPDATE II:

See Moonbattery for more on that Cincinnati tea party, and the continuing media black out of conservative protests.

Newsbusters has more on that score:

Despite their lack of coverage, as Knoxnews.com revealed Sunday, these Tea Parties are springing up all over the country (image courtesy Geldpress):

Let’s count ‘em: Cincinnati, Nebraska, Tampa, Lexington, Ridgefield, Conn., Raleigh, Orlando, D.C., Staten Island, Pasadena, Boston, Rochester, N.Y., Jacksonville, Minnesota, Cleveland, Columbus, Mo., Little Rock, Ark., Philadelphia, Kansas City, Harrisburg, Green Bay, Salt Lake City, Fullertown, Lafayette, Boise, Monterey, Maui, Yonkers, Utah, Tucson, Phoenix, Hoboken and Chicago, to name a few.

Did you know there have been that many? If you didn’t, don’t feel embarrassed for these have gone almost totally ignored.

For instance, with the exception of Fox News and CNN, no major television outlet has covered even one of these events except the original proposed by Santelli on February 19.

Compare that to how these networks practically fell all over themselves to report war protests after the public’s opinion changed concerning Iraq in late 2003.

As for print, Tea Parties have been completely ignored by the Washington Post, USA Today, the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, the Miami Herald, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Crisis Averted!

Obama, back in February, (pre Stimulus, and Omnibus Spending bills):

Obama March 12:

“A smidgen of good news and suddenly everything is doing great. A little bit of bad news and ooohh , we’re down on the dumps,” Obama said. “And I am obviously an object of this constantly varying assessment. I am the object in chief of this varying assessment.”

“I don’t think things are ever as good as they say, or ever as bad as they say,” Obama added. “Things two years ago were not as good as we thought because there were a lot of underlying weaknesses in the economy. They’re not as bad as we think they are now.”

“And my long-term projections are highly optimistic, if we take care of some of these long-term structural problems.”

The Deceiver says:

I know I speak for all Americans when I applaud March 12th President Obama for standing up to the politics of fear that have been cynically employed by February 5th President Obama. It’s time for 2/5 Obama to stop manipulating people’s emotions, just to try to make things harder for 3/12 Obama. In this time of crisis that isn’t actually that much of a crisis, Late-Winter O needs to learn how to work together with Early-Spring O. Americans didn’t vote for 2/5ths of success.

Aw…come on, you can’t blame the guy for not being wasteful.

Hat tip: Expose Obama for video.
