Newt Gingrich has called for Pelosi’s removal from the Speakership. So has Dick Morris.
Rep. Peter Hoekstra, in a conference call on Wednesday, told bloggers that House Republicans won’t press the issue until it becomes clear through the asked for CIA memos, emails, and briefing materials, that Pelosi is lying.
Blocking their release on the Congressional side is House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Rep. Sylvester Reyes, who, for suspiciously dubious reasons opposes their declassification. One wonders if with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s recent strong defense of Pelosi, after initially being lukewarm, some sort of fix is in.
The Republicans in Congress need to keep beating the drum.Dick Morris is right:
…either Leon Panetta, Obama’s head of the CIA, or Nancy Pelosi, his party’s Speaker of the House, has to go. No administration can tolerate a permanent, public civil war between two such high-ranking officials.
Especially when their disagreement stems not from issues of policy but from matters of veracity and credibility, the battle must end in one of their resignations. You cannot have the head of the nation’s first line of defense against terrorism calling the Speaker of the House a liar and being attacked by her in turn.
The President could put an end to this now, and demand that the materials be released…if he wanted to.
