“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” — Judge Sonia Sotomayor, in her Judge Mario G. Olmos Law and Cultural Diversity Lecture at the University of California (Berkeley) School of Law in 2001
Imagine the hue and cry if a white male had said that about a Hispanic female.
Charles Krauthammer, on Fox just said that this was a shrewd move by Obama, because it takes the media focus off of the disastrous (for him) debate on GITMO, and the embarrassingly defiant nuke testings by North Korea. Also, this will placate the left for many years to come.
Allahpundit had a different take, twittering: Obama could have picked a lefty firebreather if not for identity politics concerns. I.e. left actually loses this time bc of “diversity”
Jimmie from the Sundries Shack tweeted “Hmm…Sotomayor has no children. However will she empathize with the working mother?” and, “I wonder how Judge Sotomayor’s tax records look… “
Krauthammer says this is a done deal. She will be confirmed.

Chuckie Schumer liberally employs the ‘moderate’ talking points:
Struggles with earpiece…
I’m already tired of hearing people speak of her “compelling personal story”. Enough already. Did they say the same for Justice Thomas? I don’t remember, but I doubt it.
I do remember a bunch of b.s about a pubic hair in a coke can.
The Washington Times looks at her overruled decisions in A Judge Too Far:
Even the liberal establishment worries that Judge Sotomayor tilts too far to the left. New Republic essayist Jeffrey Rosen reports that fellow liberals who have watched or worked with her closely “expressed questions about her temperament, her judicial craftsmanship, and… [they have said] she is ‘not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench.’ “
A suspiciously high number of her decisions have been overruled by higher courts. Wendy Long of the Judicial Confirmation Network said that record shows “she is far more of a liberal activist than even the current liberal activist Supreme Court.”
