I’m a Beck fan — he did great work on Van Jones — but this story seems like it is way overblown. If ACORN is right — and shame on Glenn Beck for not asking this question when he interviewed her — “Hannah” went to at least three other ACORN offices before she found two women — probably undereducated, pathetically gullible single moms, judging by the kids screaming in the background — who played right into the trap. I’m not excusing them, but to think that these two women somehow prove that ACORN and by extension Obama is corrupt (because after all Glenn has video of Obama inviting some apparently Acorn-aligned group to help shape his administration’s policy) is really ridiculous.

Also, it is reported that one of the women had business cards with only her first name on it. What should this tell you about hiding ones identity? You sort of miss my point…yes absolutely, these women should be fired (they have been, I think) and prosecuted. But if these were just run-of-the-mill amoral criminals, that would not warrant a full hour on Glenn Beck. Beck’s point is that ACORN itself is corrupt and promotes sex trafficking. And that Obama by association is corrupt and is driving this country to a new world where bringing underage illegal aliens for sex is OK. And my response is that is nonsense. I genuinely think Beck is doing good work… if he harps on this particular story for too long it will absolutely backfire on him.

Sorry … my comment should have been directed to Dennis. If this were any other situation, the issue would not be put to rest with the firing of these two individuals. The entire organization would be investigated. You argue that Hannah had to go to three offices before she found such corruption. My reaction was “only three” before she found this? I would expect her to find weeks or months of rejection before finding somebody who played into her trap.

Well, I really am not trying to defend these women. But she didn’t really seem evil, did she? More like someone in a strange box who could not see beyond her basic mission of helping everyone who comes in the door. The actor gave her so many prompts, regarding prostitution, age of the girls etc, it was positively painful that she didn’t realize she was being set up.

I question the legality of this. It is important to note that the person filming is a normal filmmaker and not a member of a law enforcement agency. That is to say, the entire video is moot. The only thing the ACORN workers can be charged with is a minor charge of conspiracy. The filmmaker, on the other hand can actually be in more trouble. In Maryland, for film and taped conversations to be made and released, there must be mutual consent. We also must note that these workers faces were shown without consent. In the end, the filmmaker can be charged with multiple crimes that can entail 5 years in prison and $10,000 in fines. The worst part is that if he hadn’t pretended to be a pimp, many of the things the ACORN workers did could be called out. The fact that he was faking negates many things.
Lastly to “maniapill”, I suggest you not call it a “Thugacracy” lest you who speaks against racism be considered a racist. I say that with complete concern as I understand where you are coming from but the wording could be better.

Hannah Giles, the 20 yr old woman being interviewed, and her partner in crime, 25 yr old James O’Keefe conducted stings at 4+ ACORN offices, starting in Baltimore, Maryland. They posed as a pimp and his prostitute girlfriend wanting help from ACORN in getting a loan for a house.
