Video:Obama Poo Poos ACORN Story

Who believes Obama hasn’t been following this story very closely? Who believes  Obama didn’t realize that ACORN was getting a “whole lot of federal money”. For that matter, who believes that Obama wasn’t following the House Judiciary Committee’s  plans to investigate ACORN wrongdoing  earlier this year,  which incidentally, Committee Chairman, John Conyers tells us,  “powers that be” put the kibosh on?

As Michelle Malkin said in her great column, today:

It strains credulity — no, it snaps credulity in half — to believe Obama “didn’t even know” that ACORN was “getting a whole lot of federal money”

With Obama’s extensive background with ACORN, he’s not been following the group’s spectacular public meltdown, brought to you by Andrew Breitbart’s  Big Government.com this past couple of weeks? Please.

Sure, Obama’s got big things on his mind, like slashing America’s his nuclear arsenal, but, we all know Obama’s a multi-tasker.

It’s no secret that Obama got his start as a community organizer at ACORN’s side.

In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included Acorn. This past November, he lauded Acorn’s leaders for being “smack dab in the middle” of that effort. Mr. Obama also served as a lawyer for Acorn in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.

During his tenure on the board of Chicago’s Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for “staging, sound, lighting.” It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.

During the 2008 campaign, Obama often cited his work as a community organizer as experience that made him qualified to be President.

“I can bring this country together,” he said in a debate from February 2008. “I have a track record, starting from the days I moved to Chicago as a community organizer.”

It’s not the biggest issue facing the country, Obama assures us, wishing inconvenient news stories would all go away. Well, they’re not going away.

Andrew Breitbart promises in his latest Big Hollywood post, Planting the Seeds: The Politicized Art Behind the ACORN Plan, “yes, there is more to come”.

The next bombshell to drop at 12:00 eastern, Monday, this time featuring Obama’s brewing NEA controversy.

But, there is even a larger issue that hasn’t yet received much attention in the press. Among the Obama Administration officials on the call were Buffy Wicks, Office of Public Engagement and the lead White House official on the President’s Serve.Gov initiative to promote national service. Also on the call was Nell Abernathy, Director of Outreach for Serve.Gov. One of their main goals on the call, it seems, was to encourage artists to produce works that would reinforce the President’s call for service; specifically through the Serve.Gov web-portal.

As Dana Loesch recently reported at Big Government, the Serve.Gov portal funnels citizens to volunteer or service projects connected with ACORN and other leftist groups. The taxpayer-funded website is evolving into a cyber-recruitment tool for the progressive movement.

So what did happen on that call? Was the NEA coordinating with the White House to push their agenda on a group of artists eager for and reliant upon the NEA for grants, or is the NEA telling the truth that this call “was not a means to promote any legislative agenda”?

Stay tuned.

Video: Jay Leno Goofs On APORN ACORN

Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center contends that issues don’t enter the public consciousness “until they are a joke on late-night shows.”

A lot of people are hearing about ACORN for the first time through  comedians like Jay Leno Show and  John Stewart. These folks might also be  interested to know of the President’s extensive background, working with ACORN as a community organizer.

Stanley Kurtz talked about Obama and ACORN’s role in the financial crisis, on Fox and Friends,  September 2008:

Obama’s also promised during his campaign to let them “help shape his agenda”. *SHUDDER*

As Allahpundit says, “The group’s name has become practically a byword for sleaze”.

Obama’s association with this destructive organization is no laughing matter.

Sheriff Joe is now on ACORN’s case in AZ:

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio alleged Thursday that a national community activist organization is using federal and state funds to fight his efforts to enforce immigration law.

Arpaio sent subpoenas to the local chapter and national headquarters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, asking for a wide array of records he says will connect the organization to a racial profiling lawsuit he is challenging in federal court.

That lawsuit was filed by the immigrant advocacy group Somos America and five Latinos, all of whom are U.S. citizens or are in the country legally, according to the suit.

Smart Power: Obama Betrays America’s Allies – For What???

poland treason

From Poland’s Daily News Fakt

Gateway Pundit reports on the reactions of Poles and Czechs, today:

Strategic ally? Mainstay of our security? End of illusions. United States of America, for which we have for each call, turned his back to us. U.S. President lightly tossed into the trash heap construction of the Poland and the Czech anti-missile shield. The massive military installation was to give special meaning to us in NATO and to strengthen our position towards Russia. But America, instead of Warsaw, he prefers dialogue with Moscow. Yesterday the whole world went round decision Barack Obama Kremlin triumphs, and the Poles have been exposed to the wind.

The Washington Times in an oped, this morning :

Obama’s anniversary gift to Russia

The Kremlin is delighted. The United States unilaterally backed down in face of a Russian demand with no promise of reciprocity. This move decidedly strengthens Moscow’s hand without any appreciable gain for the United States. There is no reason to expect any gratitude. The Russian line will be that Mr. Obama made a pragmatic choice based on the faltering economy and his unwillingness to challenge mighty Moscow. It is a huge win for the Kremlin that adds to Russia’s current momentum and reinforces the president’s growing appearance of international impotence.

As usual, Moscow’s gain is Eastern Europe’s loss. Poland and the Czech Republic have a difficult recent history with Russia, by which we mean 40 years of communist military occupation and political repression. They knew Moscow would object to them hosting an American missile-defense system but decided to take the risk. Warsaw and Prague are good allies to America and have sent troops to assist the coalition efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. They deserved better than a midnight call telling them “thanks, but no thanks.”

The White House picked an auspicious day to wave the white flag on missile defense. The president’s national-security team may say they didn’t notice that the announcement came on the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939, but everyone in Eastern Europe did. For an administration whose claims of heightened cultural sensitivity border on sanctimony, the timing was an unforgivable faux pas. The anniversary gift compounds the message that Washington is bent on courting Moscow regardless of the broader implications for global security.

obama your welcome

You’re Welcome.

Closing velocity has more on the betrayal, here, here, and here, making the case that Obama’s decision has also made the United States less safe:

An unnamed Senate aide makes the same point I’ve always made here: European missile defense was never exclusively about defending Europe — it was about defending OUR largest east coast cities:

A senior GOP Senate aide said that the effect of the administration’s switch to short- range systems, such as the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3), was that the program would no longer have any capability to defend the U.S. homeland and would only be able to protect parts of Europe.

“The important fact here is that if you go with the land-based SM-3s, you don’t protect the United States,” said the aide.

“It changes the nature of the debate,” the aide continued. “Why should the U.S. spend 6 or 7 billion dollars just to protect Europe? That’s going to be a completely different argument.”

Jules Crittenden has more:

Reuters: For Poland, the timing of the announcement is particularly sensitive. Thursday marked the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of eastern Poland following a pact between Moscow and Nazi Germany, an event seen by Poles as “a stab in the back.”

“I hope this is just a coincidence,” said Waszczykowski.

Actually, it probably is. The Obama administration doesn’t study history. It reimagines it. If there is any purposefulness to this date, then its because the Ivans proposed it: “Hey there, my yankee imperialist capitalist lackey fellow traveling tovarich. OK, we’ll make this deal. One thing, could you announce it on Sept. 17? Works better for us. (Muffled giggle).”

Ed Morrissey made the gaffe Hot Air’s Obamateurism of the day.

Makes you almost yearn for the Jimmy Carter days.

Video:Obama On 2007 Health Care Bill:”Initially you may need an additional $90-100 billion each year.”

Which of course would require massive tax hikes.

Naked Emperor News has done it again:

“I’ve pushed people on the idea of paying higher taxes in order to implement the system.”

What I don’t understand was how was he able to get away with the idea of “pushing people to pay higher taxes”  to pay for the expensive program, while at the same time promising to lower taxes for 95% of us.

House Votes Overwhelmingly To Defund ACORN

Publius at Big Government reports:

Rep. Darrell Issa  (R-CA) offered the Defund-ACORN bill to the Student Loans bill.  The House voted convincingly to cut ALL federal funds to ACORN.

Vote: 345 to 75.

Squeeee!

Ace and Gabe were wondering the same thing I’ve been wondering:

Oversold? Gabe tips me that in the Senate they slipped the amendment into a HUD bill that didn’t provide any money for ACORN. So I don’t know that these amendments apply to all other spending or just the spending in the bill — in the latter case, may be of very limited usefulness, except forcing Democrats to admit by their votes ACORN should be defunded when a bill that actually affects them comes up.

I do not know. I am more ignorant than usual.

A Moron Answering a Question:

Gabe asked me: Question: In your latest post, what does “de-fund” mean? Does it just block all current appropriations directed to ACORN or does the bill say (as was threatened) that they can never receive federal funds again?

I wasn’t sure if it was quite time to celebrate after the Senate HUD bill, passed, myself. ACORN and its affiliates have many ways of obtaining federal dollars, but it sounds like the Republicans are crossing all Ts and dotting all their Is.

Byron York explains what’s next, here:

Nebraska Republican Sen. Mike Johanns, who sponsored the successful amendment to ban federal housing funds from going to ACORN, has introduced the same amendment banning funds for ACORN in two other appropriations bills: the Interior Department appropriations measure and the Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations bill. Johanns is expected to take to the Senate floor today to argue in favor of banning ACORN from those areas of federal spending.

In the new amendments, Johanns is attempting to bar federal funding for ACORN at some departments that currently do not send any money to the organization. The idea is to make sure that federal funds for ACORN, once banned from the Housing appropriations bill, do not find their way into other parts of the federal budget. GOP Senate aides point out that ACORN is connected to hundreds of different organizations across the country, and it will take a lot of work to make sure federal dollars do not go to ACORN or its affiliates. “They have tentacles everywhere,” says one aide.

Still in the works is a larger, standalone bill that would bar all federal funding for ACORN. Republicans in the House have already introduced such a measure.

As Always, The Left is Dealing From The Bottom Of The Deck

“Angry mob”, “racists”, “extremists”, “unAmerican”, “right-wing terrorists”, “astroturf”, and did I mention “racists”? Especially racists. All these words are being used to describe opponents of Obama’s policies, and sadly, not just by the ignorant troglodytes of the left-wing blogosphere, but by leaders of the Democrat party.

At the moment, we are seeing an uptick in accusations of racism. While the President pretends to stand above it all, everyone from Jimmy Carter to Maureen Dowd, to Maxine Waters to Janeane Garofalo are flagrantly employing the race card. Why? It seems that the more unpopular Obama’s policies get, the more the card gets used.

obamagetoutofjailcc2

Rush Limbaugh just quoted the NYTs article  on his show: As Race Debate Grows, Obama Steers Clear of It: “B.S.”! , he says, the Obama administration is behind it!

We can’t really say that for sure, but we can point out that we saw the same tactic used during the campaign.

racecard

It was used quite effectively against the Clintons, and let’s not forget this oft repeated, groan inducing line he used during stump speeches:

June 20, Jacksonville Florida:

“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run,” said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’”

Nobody but Obama was mentioning that he was black. We were mentioning his troubling radical background, and radical, far left/communist supporters and associations. Just as we are, now. You can see this concern reflected in tea party signs like these:

obama socialist

tea-party-signs

socialism destroys

socialism not the change

So some of the savvier race-baiters started equating the word “Socialist” with the “N word”.

I’m told denizens of lefty blogs lament that the tea party protests get more attention in the media than their protests did. Yes, seriously.

Never mind that it took only a small handful Code Pink crones to bring out a media stampede of sympathetic coverage wherever they went. Never mind that now that Obama is the President, their puny protests are no longer covered. The media  covered left wing protests extensively, and studiously avoided covering them in a negative light. Literally hundreds of tea parties have taken place since Obama took office, and most have been  ignored. The tea parties that have been covered have been subject to scathing criticism.

Members of the left-wing media (we no longer call them MSM) go out of their way to seek out the more extreme members of conservative protests, and then those are often grossly mischaracterized as this black gun aficionado was on MSNBC.

Tea party critics in the media are appalled by the Obama/Hitler comparisons which are done primarily by Democrat Lyndon LaRouche supporters.

Where were these critics during the Bush years, when Bush was compared to Hitler on an almost daily basis by the left? What was one of the left’s favorite nicknames for President Bush? Bushitler?

The Bush/Nazi theme was standard at all anti-Bush protests:

bushitler

Where was the media when protesters’ signs reflected their demented, violent, deathwishes against the President?

headshotringo

I don’t remember anyone in the leftwing media having much to say about the hardcore extremism on display at anti-Bush protests.

But they are working overtime to portray Obama’s opponents as racists.

Charles Krauthammer called it “the last refuge of the liberal scoundrel”.

Baldilocks calls it an “all purpose cudgel” :

I would say that those who hurl the racism epithet toward critics of President Obama don’t expect the charge to make sense. Sense isn’t necessary due to the fact that the racist label has become such an effective destroyer of careers and reputations in the last thirty-five years, the accusers expect the charge to have the same power that it has had over that time period. It’s the Tar Baby of tar babies, ironically enough, and woe to the white human being who is unfortunate enough to be stuck to it.

For the sycophants of President Obama specifically, crying racism has become an easy way to avoid addressing  his long-articulated leftism, his incipient fascism, his lawlessness, his mendaciousness and his general executive incompetence his studied indifference toward adhering to proven executive practices, even his own stated methods.

But what happens when the weapon is used too much?

Victor Davis Hansen believes this ploy will result in another 5% drop in the polls for Obama:

In the wake of Joe Wilson’s crude outburst, many network commentators (and Jimmy Carter, of course) are weighing in on the new racism that supposedly explains 1) rising opposition to Obamacare and 2) the president’s sinking polls. I think this is a disastrous political move to save a health-care plan that simply has not appealed to a majority of Americans. I suspect it will result in another 5-point poll slide.

To prove their charge, those who allege racism would have to show empirically that the present angry rhetoric eclipses what was said about and done to Bush. It does not yet.

We don’t see the word “hate” used in mainstream publications like The New Republic and the Guardian, as it was during the Bush years. (Even worse, really unspeakable things were done to Bush in novels and films.) “You lie” is about on par with the past statements of a Rep. Pete Stark or a Howard Dean (“I hate Republicans”), or the booing Democrats at the 2005 State of the Union. The extremists at the demonstrations are in smaller numbers so far than those who turned out against Bush and the Iraq War. A senior figure like John Glenn or Al Gore has not called the current president a Nazi or brownshirt.

Rasmussen reports that only 12% of Americans believe that racism is behind the opposition to Obama. But that won’t stop the Obamanuts from using the race card.

Bertha Lewis On CNN: This is A Well Orchestrated, Well Funded, Concerted, Relentless Campaign To Attack This Organization

Was this interview before ACORN started employing corporate crisis management tactics? Because Bertha is spinning out of control, here:

“Thank-you for taking the heat”?

What heat?

He didn’t even challenge her risible “our quality control worked” statement. They turned in every fraudulent registration?! OMG. No. They did not.

Bertha Lewis is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Organizer of ACORN, and she’s spewing nonsense. These shysters need to be defunded, now.

No three month waiting period. Now.

A.S.A.P.

Big Government has more on the: Bertha Lewis  media blitz: Acorn Chief Organizer Says We’re Gonna Go After This Videographer And Fox

ACORN DONE

Big Government has released part two of the San Bernardino sting. You almost feel sorry for Miss Tresa. She’s corrupt to the core, but she really poured out her soul to the nice young couple, you know? She thought she was really clicking with them.

ACORN, yesterday tried to explain away Tresa by saying she was “playing along with the joke”.

The woman, identified on the video as Tresa Kaelke, appears on posted footage to be interested in cooperating the plan. However, California ACORN head organizer Amy Schur said the video is a gross misrepresentation of what actually happened.

“In this video, there are two actors who come into our office and who were messing with us. And our employee was messing with them,” Schur said.

She said that the complete and unedited video needs to be released to the public.

Schur said that in a moment not shown on the edited video, Kaelke asked the undercover “pimp” if he was joking and then proceeded to play along with the joke.

Tresa’s play-acting was so convincing the San Bernardino police dept. is investigating the alleged homicide.

Meanwhile ACORN’s national board announced that it is closing down shop until things cool down, a bit:

ACORN, calling the actions of some of its employees “indefensible,” has suspended advising new clients as part of its service programs and is setting up an independent review to see what happened.

ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement that she was “ordering a halt to any new intakes into ACORN’s service programs until completion of an independent review.”

There’s lot’s to review…The Washington Times reports:

The group and its affiliates are currently the target of at least 14 lawsuits related to voter fraud in the 2008 election and a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act complaint filed by former ACORN members.

ACORN leaders have consistently denied any wrongdoing and even said they welcomed previous attempts to undertake a congressional probe. A Capitol Hill hearing on ACORN appeared to be in the offing in the spring until House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat, abruptly changed his mind. He said “the powers that be decided against it.”

A report released during the summer by Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee presented evidence that ACORN engaged in criminal misconduct including:

• Evading taxes, obstructing justice and aiding and abetting a cover-up of the nearly $1 million embezzled by Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke.

• Committing investment fraud, depriving the public of its right to honest services, and engaging in a racketeering enterprise affecting interstate commerce.

• Committing a conspiracy to defraud the United States by using taxpayer funds for partisan political activities.

• Submitting false filings to the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor, in addition to violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Yes, ACORN is a thoroughly corrupt organization, and even stalwart libs can no longer deny it.

In recent days we’ve seen Congress finally take action in defunding ACORN. Now, private organizations, which have donated to ACORN “to make them go away”  are being asked to stop funding the criminal organization (which Obama has been closely associated with). So that’s another revenue stream going going….hopefully gone, thanks to our young heroes, (who aren’t even through, yet. Next video to be dropped 9:00pm Eastern).

Part 3 of the San Bernardino sting is now up at Big Hollywood.

UPDATE:

Oh good lord…Good God! it seems, ACORN is not gonna go down easily.

Ace explains:

Now, as soon as the Senate votes to defund them, they say “we’ll conduct our own internal audit,” later changed to “independent audit,” and they want us to give them three months (until the story blows over and the heat’s off) to continue collecting federal money.

Three months — when, they hope, we’ll all have forgotten about this unfortunate episode.

And how “independent” is that independent auditing group? Let’s just say they’re no quite independent enough to not appreciate the yeoman’s work ACORN does on behalf of Democrats.

In a press release, ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis says, that as “a result of the indefensible action of a handful of our employees,” the group will immediately stop accepting anyone into ACORN office for service programs, will conduct in-service training of staff, and begin an audit “to review all of the systems and processes called into question by the videos,” to be conducted by the group’s Independent Advisory Council. The Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Or, as Karl tweets:

A Soros hack, an SEIU thug, someone who pleaded to lying to the FBI, and a Kennedy

THAT’S their independent advisory panel???

Scott Levenson Says “Multi-National Entertainment Agency” (Fox) Spending Millions To “Go After” ACORN

Today on his show, Glenn Beck asked James O’Keefe how much money he’s spent investigating ACORN.

Skip ahead TO 2:28:

$1,300 for the entire nationwide investigation?

Those two were on a shoe-string budget.

Czar Gazing

A few czar related stories caught my eye, today.

1.) Following Glenn Beck’s lead, the Republican pushback on czars begins:

Hot Air:

Lamar Alexander (R-TN) delivered a blistering attack on the apparatchiks of Obama’s government and the way it undermines the checks and balances in the system:

Kay Bailey Hutchinson piled on in the Washington Post, Sunday.

Ed Morrissey:

It’s well past time for the Republicans to demand answers on the massive expansion of “czars” in the government. A proper Congress would have balked at it regardless of the political parties involved. They represent a deliberate attempt to undermine the role of Congress as a check on executive power, and set a very dangerous precedent for subsequent administrations of both parties.

Hear hear, it’s about time.

2.) Also…guess which malevolent public figure has been found to be a big financier of  Van Jones, according to Cliff Kincaid?

soros

When the list of donors to the Van Jones “Green for All” organization is examined, one name stands out-the Open Society Institute of billionaire George Soros. The Green for All 2008 annual report is also notable for the pictures of the powerful people who associated with Jones. They include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Vice President Al Gore.

*****

For those interested in finding out how a real communist got a White House job, the Van Jones scandal isn’t over. One of the most fascinating preliminary answers involves the George Soros connection. Why would an organization associated with someone who made billions of dollars by exploiting the global capitalist system want to underwrite the activities of a communist? We have previously noted that Soros has escaped press scrutiny because he has funded a variety of news media organizations, in addition to major elements of the Democratic Party. Soros was a major backer of Obama during the 2008 campaign.

3.) And next on the conservative agenda according to FrontPageMagazine?

valerie jarrett

Valerie Jarrett: The Next Van Jones

Many have wondered how ANYONE AS EXTREME AS Obama’S “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones – a self-described “Communist” obsessed with racial conspiracy theories – could have been named to head a federal agency. David Horowitz described the radicalization of the Democratic Party as the appointment’s subtext. Closer to the fore, Jones owed his elevation to another new factor: the unparalleled influence of Valerie Jarrett. To call Jarrett a presidential adviser, even a close adviser, is misleading. She is an alter ego, an inner conscience, a touchstone of clarity for both President Obama and first lady Michelle. In the frenzy of the presidency, she reminds both Obamas of their identity and deepest-held beliefs. In exchange, the president makes no decision without her and has said she can “speak for me.” Unfortunately, she is also a racially polarizing elitist. She obtained her first foothold in Chicago politics through the patronage of a former SDS radical who regrets “nothing” about her role in the Days of Rage and ventured in 2003 that she “would probably reject violence as a useful form of revolution.” The same radical tried to persuade Rod Blagojevich to name Jarrett to Obama’s empty senate seat. Instead, Jarrett has served as a conduit of far-leftists into the administration.

*****

With a Little Help from my (Radical) Friends

Who is this person to whom Jarrett is so indebted – and who, we shall see, she calls a personal friend? Marilyn Katz provided “security” for Students for a Democratic Society at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Undercover Chicago policeman William Frapolly told prosecutors that during the Days of Rage, Katz showed protesters a new weapon to use against the police: “a cluster of nails that were sharpened at both ends, and they were fastened in the center.” Police later reported being hit by golf balls with nails through them, as well as excrement. Years later, Katz would insist her “guerrilla nails” were merely “a defensive weapon” to prevent “possible bad behavior by the police.”

The SDS soon imploded. Bill Ayers – whom Katz has known since he was 17 – helped create the terrorist Weather Underground from its ranks. In 1971-2, Katz would lead another remnant to form the New American Movement (NAM), a combined Old Left-New Left organization that included Communist Party USA members from the 1930s.
