Video:Rush On Today’s Show

This morning, El Rushbo made a rare t.v. appearance on the Today’s Show to do an interview with Jamie Gangel which will be aired over two days. Gangel was fair, and Rush was, as always….entertaining:

Apparently NBC needed a boost in ratings.

Why Doesn’t The President Put A Stop To This?

obama_flag

You can buy the flag seen above on Ebay for $4.99.

The United States Flag Code provision 176 (g): “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this.

We saw Obama flags waving right before inauguration day, and Obama said nothing.

oflag

At some point, wouldn’t you expect the President of the United States step up and say that this gross breech of flag etiquette in his honor should stop? He may not be able to stop entrepreneurs from making a buck off of his image, but he can certainly discourage the practice. He loves to give speeches, doesn’t he? And hasn’t he been dubbed the “Omnipresent President” because of his tendency to involve himself  in every day minutia? How hard would it be for Obama to get one of his media toadies to ask him about this, so he can take the opportunity to express his distaste for these flag desecrations?

Jill Sprik at The American Thinker listed this as one of the Top 20 Things Obama Doesn’t Say:

7. Stop already with all forms of ‘cult of personality’ behavior.  I am a public servant, just like all those who have served before and all who will come after my term is complete.  It’s not about me, it’s about the country.

Perhaps he could surprise us all, and say something like that?

Or perhaps this is just par for the course for a guy who once had the United States flag removed from his campaign plane’s tail to be replaced  with his personal logo.

UPDATE:

A push-back seen on Facebook:

Free speech, baby!

What do you want to bet that there are lefties out there who find this image deplorable, violent and offensive, but have no problem at all when real American flags are burned?

Video:Fox New Sunday Panel Discuss Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize

I like Liz Cheney’s idea, here, but it ain’t gonna happen:

I profoundly disagree with Juan Williams’ assertion at the end, that the Nobel committee was honoring the United States, as “the lone super power”. No it wasn’t. It was meant to insult Americans, and rebuke Bush.

And yes,  of course, honor Obama.

MORE:

Peggy Noonan, who calls it “a wicked and ignorant award” also has an idea for Obama’s Nobel acceptance speech in Oslo: praise America in his acceptance speech, rather than put it down….

Tom Friedman thinks Obama should accept on behalf of the US soldiers and sailors from World War II forward.

I suspect, that in the face of worldwide criticism for receiving this award before accomplishing anything, his speech will be a show of great humility, with a few bon mots thrown in for the good ol’ USA. But it will, without a doubt contain that Obama trademark we’ve all come to expect – a dig or two at the previous administration, and perhaps even another mention of our horrible, checkered past, because he just can’t help himself.

If he can manage to give a speech that honors the country, and resists the temptation to put down Bush, I will be surprised.

Most likely, though, I’ll be throwing things at my t.v.

Tom Maguire doesn’t think he has it in him, either.

If the Obamamometer is to peg at a perfect 10, Obama will have walk the  tightrope of trying to please everyone: American citizens who are sick of hearing him apologize for America, and the hard left, who never tire of it, and that includes the people who awarded him the  prize.

Transnationalist Harold Koh Behind Obama Administration’s Honduras Policy

So it comes down to this. The adviser to the State Department, Harold Koh, (whose appointment conservatives so feared and opposed), appears to be the man behind the Obama administration’s bizarre policy against Honduras.

Senator Jim DeMint writes about his recent trip to Honduras in an oped in The WSJ, today:

In a day packed with meetings, we met only one person in Honduras who opposed Mr. Zelaya’s ouster, who wishes his return, and who mystifyingly rejects the legitimacy of the November elections: U.S. Ambassador Hugo Llorens.

When I asked Ambassador Llorens why the U.S. government insists on labeling what appears to the entire country to be the constitutional removal of Mr. Zelaya a “coup,” he urged me to read the legal opinion drafted by the State Department’s top lawyer, Harold Koh. As it happens, I have asked to see Mr. Koh’s report before and since my trip, but all requests to publicly disclose it have been denied.

On the other hand, the only thorough examination of the facts to date—conducted by a senior analyst at the Law Library of Congress—confirms the legality and constitutionality of Mr. Zelaya’s ouster. (It’s on the Internet here .)

In truth, it was immediately apparent to even the casual observer, that Honduras had acted legally and constitutionally in removing Chavez acolyte, Zelaya from office, but as Andrew McCarthy points out, the constitution of  Honduras doesn’t matter to a “transnationalist” like Harold Koh:

As Ed Whelan and I pointed out when Koh was up for confirmation, the former Yale Law School dean is the nation’s leading transnationalist. He has zero respect for national constitutions (including ours), preferring a post-sovereign order in which international law profs, transnational organizations, and free-lancing judges will be our overlords. What is happening with Honduras is exactly what anyone who familiarized himself with Koh’s record would have predicted. Yet, he was confirmed by a 62-35 margin, with support from the usual GOP suspects:  Lugar, Voinovich, Snowe, Collins, and Martinez.

Will these Republicans who helped foist Koh on us now join others demanding that President Transparency release Koh’s legal opinion on Honduras?

“international law profs, transnational organizations, and free-lancing judges will be our overlords”…..

One particular overlord, and his private transnational organization, OSI, I have posited, has interests in the region.

Hat tip: Hot Air

UPDATE:

Johnathon Adler of the Volokh Conspiracy, says:

Release the Koh Memorandum on Honduras

The Honduran government has made numerous missteps, from forcibly removing Zelaya from the country to restricting press freedoms, but I have yet to see a legal analysis to plausibly explain how Zelaya’s removal from office (as opposed to his forced exile) was illegal or unconstitutional, and I have seen no analysis, legal or otherwise, that explains why the already scheduled November elections should not proceed as planned.   Yet Harold Koh is quite smart — and I readily admit he knows far more about this subject than I ever will.  So if he has an analysis that would support the Administration’s otherwise-implausible position, let’s see it.  If not, then the U.S. government should let Honduras determine the course of their own affairs.

Your Depressing Read(s) For The Weekend

uncle-sam-statue-liberty-500Cartoon via Atlantic Council

Decline Is A Choice is a great piece by Charles Krauthammer to sober you up in case you’re ready to take a break from the hilarity and hijinx that ensued as a result of Obama’s ridiculous win of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hillsdale College Professor Paul Rahe writes:

Krauthammer’s point is simple and unassailable. There is, he argues, an intimate connection between the foreign policy being pursued by the Obama administration and its domestic policy. The work undertaken in the domestic sphere by what I have called “Obama’s wrecking crew” will, he points out, put a stop to the pattern of dynamic economic growth that made it possible for the United States to defeat Japan, contribute decisively to the defeat of Nazi Germany, contain communism, and ultimately defeat and prepare the way for the dismemberment of the Soviet Union.

It will produce economic stagnation of the sort that the Europeans have suffered from for decades, and it will eventuate in a collapse of the American dollar

This, as Krauthammer shows, Obama and his minions understand, and this they want — the elimination of the foundations for American hegemony and the crippling of this country. They regard the role that we have thus far played in the world as shameful; they are intent on dismembering the alliances that gave us our heft in the world; and they are not only appeasing our sworn enemies but openly, publicly embracing them and their agenda.

Read both Krauthammer’s piece at The Weekly Standard, and Professor Rahe’s entire piece at Powerline.

UPDATE:

*Krauthammer gave a speech, based on his article at The Manhattan Institute on October 5th:

Here’s the first part:

The whole speech can be viewed, here.

*Correction: I had that backwards…The article in the Weekly standard was adapted from the speech.

Another good one:

David Kahane, writing for NRO: What If.

This one’s a bummer, too, but at least it’s good for a few bitter chuckles.

Bonus – you get to find out about the “Obamamometer”, a term that Obama’s fellow students at Harvard openly ridiculed him with:

A device which measures epic brown-nosing on a scale from one to ten?

I mean….does that describe what he’s been doing on the world’s stage since he was a mere candidate, or what?

One more depressing read by Dr. Zero in The Greenroom:

The Peace Of The Grave

There are only two responses to tyranny: submission and resistance. Submission is easy. It can be negotiated. It is filled with nuance, and requires a large staff of diplomats and state functionaries to administer in style. Organizations like the United Nations make the first concessions to dictatorship by their very nature, as they allow thug states like Iran and Libya to take seats next to peaceful democracies. Obama’s dismal eulogy for America at the U.N. was followed by lunatic rants from the blood-splattered clowns who will be the new masters of the global future. Entertaining such creatures is easy, if you can just ignore the piles of faceless victims buried behind them. You may rest assured that the name Neda Agha-Soltan was not spoken during Obama’s Peace Prize deliberations, and it will not be spoken when the prize is placed into his hands.

Resistance is hard. It requires the courage to call evil by its name, and sacrifice universal adoration in the process. The Left likes to rail against intolerance. The defense of peace and freedom requires the absolute intolerance of evil. It requires leaders who don’t need a few days to decide whether to cancel the Fourth of July picnic invitations of a dictatorship that guns down peacefully protesting citizens. It relies upon a nation with the strength and resolve to project both humanitarian assistance and military power around the world.

Boehner: Dems Are Changing Bills After They’ve Been Voted On

Outrage after outrage after outrage. How much more deception and corruption can this Republic take?

The following is a press release issued by John Boehner:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today expressed outrage after learning that Senate Democratic leaders quietly made more than 70 substantive changes to the text of a health care bill after the legislation was voted on and passed by the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee.  The changes were made without a vote and without the knowledge of the committee’s minority members.  Boehner condemned the practice of adding such “phantom amendments” to bills, and announced that Republicans will introduce a resolution that would change House rules to require committees to post the actual text of adopted bills and amendments online within 24 hours to prevent similar acts of deception.

“The American people are fed up with the way in which Congress does business.  Whether it’s passing massive spending bills no one in America has read, or making secret changes to bills after they’ve already been passed by committees, ‘business as usual’ in Congress needs to end,” Boehner said.  “The American people deserve a Congress that is transparent and accountable to the people it serves.  The practice of secretly adding ‘phantom amendments’ to major bills after they pass committee is outrageous, and it should be banned.  Americans should be allowed to read the text of all bills online within 24 hours after they are approved by congressional committees.”

According to a report by IWP News, “Senate Republicans are raising new concerns about being forced to vote on health reform bills prior to the availability of legislative text, complaining that a wellness measure unanimously agreed to during the health committee’s July markup is absent from the recently released bill.  Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) suggested last week that the committee’s majority staff may have deliberately excluded the amendment, which passed after much hoopla over bipartisanship.  The final bill was released on Sept. 17, two months after it was approved along party lines and following repeated demands by Republicans to see the final legislative text.  ‘I think that’s an outrage,’ said Enzi (R-WY), who is the ranking member on the health committee.”  (InsideHealthPolicy.com, October 2009)

“While the current Congress is the worst I’ve seen, it is hardly the first Congress to have a transparency problem.  Republican-led Congresses fell short in this area, too,” Boehner said. “But when I chaired the Committee on Education and the Workforce [now Education & Labor], we always made it a point to make the text of committee-passed bills publicly available within 24 hours after a vote.  It isn’t a difficult thing to accomplish, and it’s the right thing to do for the American people, who want government that is open, transparent, and accountable.  I plan to introduce a resolution in the House that will require all House committees to post bills and amendments online within 24 hours after they’re adopted, and I hope members on both sides of the aisle will support it.  It’s just common sense.”

Boehner is supporting an effort by Reps. Greg Walden (R-OR) and John Culberson (R-TX) to change House rules to require all bills to be posted online for a minimum of 72 hours before they are brought to a vote on the House floor.  More information is available at http://www.gopleader.gov/readthebill/.

Bam Wins Nobel Peace Prize

obama your welcome

Some people are actually stunned and surprised by this…

The only thing surprising to me is…that other conservatives are surprised, I mean – hello? What has he been doing for the past nine months? Groveling, apologizing and genuflecting before the world? Bashing the previous administration at every opportunity? What’s not for the Eurotrash to love? Why would it surprise anyone that they would want to reward him with a token of their appreciation?

No, his  “extraordinary efforts” haven’t done anything that has in any real way contributed to world peace, in fact, the truth is likely the opposite. The point is, the world wuuuuvvvvs him for it.

It’s not like there haven’t been other risible  Nobel Peace prize winners in recent years, 2001: Kofi Annan 2002: Jimmy Carter, 2007:  Al Gore…

At this point, if someone I liked  won the Nobel Peace Prize, I would be so surprised, I would actually be rethinking my admiration for him.

The big surprise came last week, when Obama flamed out so spectacularly in his bid to win the Olympics for Chicago. That was indeed a surprise. This is meh.

Obama Administration Dishonors Catholic College’s freedom Of Conscience

obama-nd

Obama May 17, Notra Dame:

So let us work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions, let’s reduce unintended pregnancies. (Applause.) Let’s make adoption more available. (Applause.) Let’s provide care and support for women who do carry their children to term. (Applause.) Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause, and make sure that all of our health care policies are grounded not only in sound science, but also in clear ethics, as well as respect for the equality of women.” Those are things we can do. (Applause.)

Rick Santorum has sent out this alert:

In his address at the University of Notre Dame, Obama talked a good game about respecting conscience on abortion rights. He did the same thing when he met the Pope. But that was all it was — talk.

The Obama Administration’s attack on Belmont Abbey College proves that.

Belmont Abbey College is a small, private, Catholic college located in North Carolina. For 130 years, it and the Benedictine monks who run it have been dedicated to handing on the Catholic faith.

But the Obama Administration is now trying to force them to abandon that faith or go out of business.

You see, the Administration at Belmont Abbey College removed contraception, abortion, and voluntary sterilization from its faculty’s health care policy after discovering it had accidentally been a part of existing plans.

Employees of the school who objected to this change in policy brought a complaint against the school accusing them of “gender discrimination.”

Ed Morrissey reports from there:

The president of a small Catholic college in North Carolina is in a standoff with the Obama administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) over demands that the school must offer contraception coverage in its employee health insurance. Belmont Abbey College President William K. Thierfelder says he will shut down his school before doing so, citing the Catholic Church’s prohibition on contraception and First Amendment religious liberty rights.

On September 10, the college retained the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty to appeal an August 5 ruling by the EEOC, charging the school with discrimination. In a letter to Thierfelder, the EEOC stated the college “is discriminating based on gender because only females take oral prescription contraceptives. By denying coverage, men are not affected, only women.” Thierfelder objected with a letter posted on the school’s website, saying: “Belmont Abbey College rejects the notion that by following the moral teachings of the Catholic Church we are discriminating against anyone.… We are simply and honestly exercising the freedom of religion that is protected by the Constitution.”

The Obama administration has promised to protect freedom of conscience in the health care bill, but if this case is any indication, it was just another empty promise from Obama, even as his ambassador to the Holy See promises the Pope, otherwise:

Miguel Diaz presented his credentials to Pope Benedict XVI this morning (Oct. 2) as President Barack Obama’s ambassador to the Holy See, and the new envoy drew a pledge of cooperation on international issues from the pope, as well as clear insistence upon “the inalienable right to life from the moment of conception to natural death,” as well as “the right to conscientious object on the part of health care workers, and indeed all citizens.”

The Obama administration’s actions against Belmont Abbey College doesn’t exactly square with what Obama told the Pope in their meeting at the Vatican last July, either:

VATICAN OBAMA

Obama told the pope he understands the church’s teachings and said, as he has before, that he would like to reduce the number of abortions in the United States, Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi told CNN.

It has been said that every Obama statement has an expiration date. This one was a rotten, rancid, maggot infested lie the minute it was said.

Gateway Pundit has more.

Catholic Bishops say change the health care bill or else!

In a letter just released, the three Catholic bishops leading the Church’s efforts on health care warned Congress that “we will have no choice but to oppose the bill” unless current bills are amended.

The letter signed by Bishop William Murphy, Cardinal Justin Rigali and Bishop John Wester outlines three main areas of concern:  “that no one should be forced to pay for or participate in abortion, that health care should be affordable and available to the poor and vulnerable, and that the needs of legal immigrants should be met.”

Congratulations To Mr. Tax-Law Writing Tax Evader

Breitbart:

House Republicans have failed for a third time to oust Rep. Charles Rangel as chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.

Despite the expected defeat Wednesday, the GOP did keep the spotlight on the New York Democrat’s ethical problems, although the matter will be turned over to the House ethics committee for a long-term investigation. The House voted 246-153 to refer the resolution to remove him to that panel in a partisan vote that had no meaning except to revisit Rangel’s problems.

Is it too much to ask the House Republicans to remind people of this in 2010  with  “culture of corruption” type ads?

The second part of this sign applies…
