Happy Thanksgiving

Here’s what I’ve created for Thanksgiving (which will be at my sister’s) so far.

Sadly, my pumpkin muffins all got eaten. My son, just home from college for the holiday had some friends over last night…I should have hid them like I hid the chex mix.

I’ll also be making cole slaw, the veggie tray, and meh-be truffles, if I get ambitious later tonight.

Actually, the turkeys are something my nine year old, and I made together. She already gave one away to her teacher. The other two will be given away, tomorrow:

I’d give you directions, but boy…it’s pretty self explanatory isn’t it? We used the miniature pots because that’s what we had on hand, and we glued fun foam feathers on the back, (you could use real feathers, too), fun foam for the head, too…we would have used googly eyes, but didn’t have any, so we made ours out of paper. You can make some feet out of fun foam, too…it looks like Maggie’s fell off, whoops. We filled some tissue paper with holiday M&M’s and wrapped it up with curly ribbon, and voila. Easy peasy lemon squeazy.

This chex mix is special. It’s a damn sight better than the garden variety chex mix you buy at the store. I’ve had the recipe for over 20 years, and I always use it at holiday time. Here’s the recipe:

1 pkg Rice Chex                                                                                             4 T BBQ sauce

1/2 pkg Wheat Chex                                                                                    4 T Worchester

1/3 pkg Cheerios                                                                                           2 t celery salt

1/2 pkg stick pretzels                                                                                  3t onion salt

1 can of mixed nuts                                                                                      2 t garlic salt

1/2 can cashews                                                                                            1 cup salad oil

1/2 can of almonds                                                                                      1 cup butter

(I don’t use quite as much seasoning as the recipe calls for myself…I don’t like it that salty…play around with it).

Heat oil and butter. Dissolve seasonings in oil. Spoon over nuts and cereal mixure. Mix well. Put in shallow pans and heat at 200° for 2 hours.

I’ve started making my own cranberry sauce from scratch. It’s so much better than the canned stuff:

INGREDIENTS:

12 oz bag fresh cranberries

3/4 cup orange juice

2/3 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup white sugar

Optional: 2 oz gold rum

DIRECTIONS:

Place all the ingredients in a sauce pan and cook on medium-high for 15-20 minutes or until most of the liquid has reduced – stirring occasional. You’ll hear the cranberries popping – don’t worry, that’s what you want them to do. Remove from heat and serve.  Cranberry sauce can be made days ahead and brought to room temperature or slightly heated before serving.

John Coleman, founder of the weather channel says he and 30,000 other scientists can’t get on the air to debunk global warming. Al Gore won’t have a debate because “the debate is over”. He is suing Gore to settle the issue.

Oscar/Grammy/Nobel Peace Prize winning, scary smart, former Vice President Al Gore managed to attract “a few hundred people” to his book signing in Chicago for his timely new book, “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis.”  (Meanwhile…*cough* Sarah Palin.…*cough*)…

I was actually searching Youtube for the following exchange when I came upon the above clip. Please tell me  someone has a recording of this:

Al Gore chit-chatted as he signed books.

One young fan asked him which was cheaper, power from wind or from water?

“Wind or water?” Gore asked.

“Which is cheaper?” the young man wanted to know.

“Water is presently the cheaper,” Gore explained, “because it’s hard to get new hydro-sources.  So wind is cheaper for the new…  Thanks for coming.”

I think I understand why Al Gore doesn’t want to have a debate, now.

The Left’s Universe Of Lies

That was Rush’s theme today on his radio show – focusing mainly on the global warming scam, and it’s a theme I’ve been mulling over for the past few days: The left’s universe of lies. The false narratives they create with the help of their allies in the media to pass their leftist agenda.

In just the past few weeks, the left’s strange universe of lies has been made plain to anyone with eyes to see, most notably in the area of climate science, (see Doug Ross for an excellent summery of “Climategate”) but in other areas, as well.

Take the Fort Hood shooting, for instance. The truth of what had happened was made obvious when the name of the perp, (Nidal Malik Hasan), and the words he uttered during his murderous rampage, (allahu akbar!) came out. Within hours of the shooting,  more incriminating information about the shooter’s background, (red flags, if you will) was discovered on the internet. Within days, even more – everything from the letters on his calling card, SOA (soldier of Allah), to his “unexplained connections”, his Islamic harangues at Walter Reed,  to his strange poverty despite his good salary, were brought out. Unnamed sources said things like:everybody felt that if you were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, you would not want Nidal Hasan in your foxhole.”

Yet we were asked to “not jump to conclusions. Leftists tried to peddle the patently ridiculous theory ( read: lie) that he was suffering from “secondary post traumatic stress syndrome”, based on his experiences as a psychologist treating soldiers at Walter Reed. That canard was effectively shot down  by Charles Krauthammer, who was a psychologist by trade, before he became a political columnist.

So why the ruse? Because one of the crucial planks in the left’s poisonous worldview is  “diversity”; that “diversity” is in and of itself  a great thing, which must be protected at all costs, even if it kills.

The truth? “Diversity” is a difficulty to be overcome, not an advantage to be sought. Yes, I said it, but Ann Coulter said it first. Diversity  isn’t a bad thing, but it can and does lead to conflicts, which is why the left loves it so.  That’s their whole strategy, as in: Cloward-Piven.

The left’s universe of lies has led to the desired outcome: Nidal Hasan will likely plead not guilty by reason of insanity, with radical Islam in America taking a backseat to poor Hasan’s mental health issues.

Has anyone yet heard a coherent justification for the terror trials in New York City? No? That’s because there are none, unless you think that impugning the previous administration and weakening America is justification. The left does…but it can’t say so out loud, so they blather on with their high minded rhetoric about “the rule of law”, and “our American values”. We know it’s b.s. They know it’s b.s.

The sad reality:

Obama gets to claim the moral high ground as he tries the Bush Administration by proxy, all the while, with plausible deniability, disavowing that that was his intention. At the same time, he will have the opportunity to play the no lose game of taking credit for convictions and credibly casting blame on Bush if he fails to get them.

It is the perfect leftist paradigm. Expose the United States to criticism and ridicule and cast it as a positive evil in the world. Make the political calculation that you can, at once, discredit your political opponents and take credit for trying to elevate the national reputation in the eyes of the world.
The national interest be damned. What is important is its denigration and the political advantage to be gained by the ideology that has tried so long and, until now, so unsuccessfully, to weaken the last, best hope of man on earth.

ACORN: Has there ever been a more damaging organization to this country than these miscreants? Have  ACORN not been proven to be so thoroughly corrupt that even most Dems are loath to come to their defense, these days. Their spokespersons lie profusely, effortlessly, shamelessly…it’s what they do to to keep their heads above water. That’s the Alinsky way,  as the NEA will tell you: Ends justify the means. Yet, the danger remains that the spigot of government funds will be turned back on, so they can continue with their nefarious activities, and thus far Attorney General, Eric Holder has been as anxious to investigate ACORN’s illegalities as he was to investigate the The New Black Panthers voter intimidation case; which is to say, not at all. As many blows as ACORN has had to suffer to its reputation this year thanks largely to Andrew Breitbart, Hannah Giles, and James O’Keefe, it may still survive. ACORN has friends in high places.

Back to Global Warming. Wouldn’t you think that the hacked emails showing a conspiracy of deception among the climate scientists who are leading the charge of disastrous man made global warming, would be the top story in all media?

Look what is on the front page of  the ABC News website, today:

26 Scientists Say Assessment Gives World Leaders Solid Data for Climate Summit

There’s even less time for humanity to try to curb global warming than recently thought, according to a new in-depth scientific assessment by 26 scientists from eight countries.

Another example from the left’s universe of lies, and I see Mike at Cold Fury is on the same wavelength as me:

Michelle asks a silly question: “When will the Left retract the Kentucky census worker case smear?” I’d say the likely response is that they don’t know what you’re talking about, it never happened, and it was three other guys anyway. Alternatively, it could be the day they grow an honest bone in their bodies, when they discover integrity for the first time, when their cognitive dissonance allows them to recognize their own hypocrisy, when they truly do become a reality-based community, and the day the devil straps on ice skates. Not necessarily in that order either, because that last is way likelier than any of the others.

Update! The good Professor Jacobson has a partial — and only partial, mind — list of people who are now indebted to the tune of scarfing down one (1) big, fat, heaping helping of crow and offering up one (1) big, fat, humble apology for their vile douchebaggery. And who, you can be sure, will never, ever trouble themselves to pay up.

Which, y’know, is why we oughtn’t be holding our breath for any contrite acknowledgment from some of the same people over the global warming scam, either. Being a liberal idiot means never having to etc etc.

How much will we surrender for peace?

The Anchoress:

If America cuts a deal with the Taliban, giving them control over regions in exchange for their keeping Al Qaeda in check, she instantly confers credibility upon them – at least for as long as America’s credibility remains. Can they be trusted? If the Taliban can be trusted -and recall, Democrats have used the example of these human-rights-oppressing religious fanatics to characterize Republicans, so their sudden trustworthiness is both convenient and suspect- can they, in a theater as large as Afghanistan, actually disallow and prevent Al Qaeda from using that vast land-of-caves as their planning and training base?

I suggest the Taliban will not be able to keep its end of this face-saving bargain, and that the whole tactic is simply a way to blow smoke in front of our faces.

More on CRU Email Hacking Story

I updated my earlier post: Scientist’s Story From 1995 Corroborates With Hacked CRU Emails with the following info, but I decided this deserved its own post.

Commenters at Watt’s Up With That have been looking into “Mike’s nature trick”, ripping into the code and discovering how they artificially came up with the now completely debunked “hockey stick”:

CRU Emails “may” be open to interpretation, but commented code by the programmer tells the real story

There’s a file of code also in the collection of emails and documents from CRU. A commenter named Neal on climate audit writes:

People are talking about the emails being smoking guns but I find the remarks in the code and the code more of a smoking gun. The code is so hacked around to give predetermined results that it shows the bias of the coder. In other words make the code ignore inconvenient data to show what I want it to show. The code after a quick scan is quite a mess. Anyone with any pride would be to ashamed of to let it out public viewing. As examples [of] bias take a look at the following remarks from the MANN code files:

Go to WUWT to see the convoluted code.

Conclusion:

Either the data tells the story of nature or it does not. Data that has been “artificially adjusted to look closer to the real temperatures” is false data, yielding a false result.

Dick Cheney Talks Foreign Policy On Scott Hennen Radio Show

Stephen Hayes posted about the appearance on The Weekly Standard Blog:

Cheney: Holder Wants “Show Trial” for KSM

Former Vice President Dick Cheney unloaded on President Barack Obama and his administration in a radio interview Monday morning, saying that Obama’s recent bow before the Japanese Emperor was “fundamentally harmful” to the United States and indicates that Obama “doesn’t fully understand or have the same perception of the US role in the world that most Americans have.” Obama’s behavior on foreign trips is “very upsetting,” Cheney added.

Confirmed: NYC Show Trial Will Be Platform For Terrorist Propaganda

Like we’ve been saying…

The five men facing trial in the Sept. 11 attacks will plead not guilty so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, the lawyer for one of the defendants said Sunday.

Scott Fenstermaker, the lawyer for accused terrorist Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, said the men would not deny their role in the 2001 attacks but “would explain what happened and why they did it.”

The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier this month that Ali and four other men accused of murdering nearly 3,000 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. will face a civilian federal trial just blocks from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center.

Ali, also known as Ammar al-Baluchi, is a nephew of professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
Mohammed, Ali and the others will explain “their assessment of American foreign policy,” Fenstermaker said. “Their assessment is negative,” he said.

Has the White House really thought this through? Isn’t there a danger that the terrorists’ “assessment of American foreign policy” will correspond with what liberal Dems, most notably Obama,  said during the Bush years? That’s one way of looking at it.

Scientist’s Story From 1995 Corroborates With Hacked CRU Emails

Noted global warming skeptic, Dr. Timothy Ball must feel somewhat vindicated by the exposure of these hacked CRU emails. After years of being ridiculed and called a “denier” by this “peer group” of climate scientists driving the global warming hysteria, his worst suspicions have been discovered.

Global Warming is often called a hoax. I disagree because a hoax has a humorous intent to puncture pomposity. In science, such as with the Piltdown Man hoax, it was done to expose those with fervent but blind belief. The argument that global warming is due to humans, known as the anthropogenic global warming theory (AGW) is a deliberate fraud. I can now make that statement without fear of contradiction because of a remarkable hacking of files that provided not just a smoking gun, but an entire battery of machine guns.

Climate science hijacked and corrupted by this small group of scientists

Dominant names involved are ones I have followed throughout my career including, Phil Jones, Benjamin Santer, Michael Mann, Kevin Trenberth, Jonathan Overpeck, Ken Briffa and Tom Wigley. I have watched climate science hijacked and corrupted by this small group of scientists. This small, elite, community was named by Professor Wegman in his report to the National Academy of Science (NAS).

***

Jones claims the files were obtained illegally as if that absolves the content. It doesn’t and it is enough to destroy all their careers. Jones gave a foretaste of his behavior in 2005. Warwick Hughes asked for the data and method he used for his claim of a 0.6°C temperature rise since the end of the nineteenth century. Jones responded, “We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it?” He has stonewalled ever since. The main reason was because it was used as a key argument in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Reports to convince the world humans caused rapid warming in the 20th century. The emails obtained are a frightening record of arrogance, and deception far beyond his 2005 effort.

I had heard that story. But this is new to me:

Another glimpse into what the files and emails reveal was the report by Professor Deming. He wrote, “ With publication of an article in Science (in 1995) I gained sufficient credibility in the community of scientists working on climate change. They thought I was one of them someone who would pervert science in the service of social and political causes. So one of them let his guard down. A major person working in the area of climate change and global warming sent me an astonishing email that said. “We must get rid of the Medieval Warm Period.” The person in question was Jonathan Overpeck and his even more revealing emails are part of those exposed by the hacker. It is now very clear that Deming’s charge was precise. They have perverted science in the service of social and political causes.

Read the whole thing.

Here are some of Dr. Ball’s quotable quotes, via Wikipedia:

  • “Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.”[7]
  • “The entire Kyoto issue is based on the theory of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas…There are 2 major problems. First, [it] is not the most important greenhouse gas. Second, evidence now shows that temperatures rise before carbon dioxide increases – not the other way round.” [8]
  • Water vapor is effectively ignored in the computer models. Yes, that’s right. The climate models used as the basis for the entire global warming argument do not include the effect of clouds.”[8]
  • “Since 1940 and from 1940 until 1980, even the surface record shows cooling. The argument is that there has been warming since then but, in fact, almost all of that is due to what is called the “urban heat island” effect – that is, that the weather stations are around the edge of cities and the cities expanded out and distorted the record.”[9]
  • “The plain fact is there was never any evidence of CFCs affecting the ozone layer.”[10]
  • ” Scientists put CFCs in a chamber in a lab with ozone and assumed because the chlorine part of the CFC was destroying ozone this would happen in the ozone layer. Of course what they didn’t tell you was that the ozone was varying to different degrees at different levels in the ozone layer which extends over several kilometers. There is a self correcting mechanism because as the ultraviolet penetrates further into the atmosphere it contacts more O2 and therefore more O is produced and more O3.”[10]
  • “…The majority of the scientists who are on the Kyoto and global warming bandwagon know nothing about the science…The other problem is that so many of the scientists who are quoted as being on side with global warming are actually doing studies on the impact of global warming and climate changes and their studies then are listed as evidence for support of it. They are not, they are just starting with the assumption that global warming is going to occur, and what effect that would have. That is not support or proof at all.”[9]
  • “I can tolerate being called a sceptic because all scientists should be sceptics, but then they started calling us deniers, with all the connotations of the Holocaust. That is an obscenity. It has got really nasty and personal.”[11]

How About Not?

Oh my gosh…talk about tone-deaf.

Mark Hemingway at The Washington Examiner reports:

Here’s statistical whiz Nate Silver on what Obama needs to do to improve his flagging approval ratings:

To channel my Inner Krugman: it’s a political imperative for the Democrats of the highest order to get some sort of jobs bill to Obama’s desk — the sooner and the bigger the better. Suppose you could create jobs at a price of about $40,000 per, which is higher than the figure suggested by empirical research on highly targeted jobs programs. A $200 billion bill would then create 5 million new jobs, which would reduce unemployment by about 3.3 percent (e.g. from 10.2 percent to 6.9 percent).

As Allahpundit would say: Dude.

Does Nate Silver not know that Obama is now a deficit hawk?

Dem Senators Commit Seppuku For ObamaCare

Now that Landrieu, Nelson, and now Lincoln have folded, the unpopular Reid bill will  have enough votes  to proceed.  Red State thinks this will be hung around their necks at election time:

For the group of U.S. Senators up in 2010 — the ones facing the independent voters that turned 2:1 against the Democrats in the New Jersey and Virginia elections — they will each be tagged all election cycle with providing the one vote needed for ObamaCare to come before the Senate. They could have stopped it, but they did not.

Next year, just as the public is becoming acquainted with the full horror of what has been done, the Dems who inflicted it upon us will be the subjects of campaign commercials dooming their campaigns.

Obama recently shared his acceptance of being a one term President for inflicting his “wrenching”, economy-crushing agenda on us. It comes at the end of the interview.

Partial text via HotAirPundit:

Ed Henry: “Can you envision a scenario where you don’t run for re-election?”
Obama: “Here’s how I think about it, I said to myself very early on, even when I started running for office, that I don’t want to be make decisions based on getting re-elected because the challenges that face America are so significant…If I feel like I’ve made the very best decision for the American people and 3 years from now I look at it and my poll numbers are in the tank because we have gone through these wrenching changes, politically I’m in a tough spot, I’ll feel alright about myself

PA SEIU Union Thugs Bully The Boy Scouts

v.s.

“Honor”, Boy Scouts…really? Where is “honor” mentioned in Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals? What kind of old fashioned value is that – honor? It’s about power boys…the only value that counts, and the SEIU would like to teach you an object lesson in it.

Honestly…it doesn’t get any lower than this…Take it away, Michelle Malkin:

Last week at a city council meeting in Allentown, Pa., a top official of the local Services Employee International Union chapter ranted about 17-year-old Scout Kevin Anderson’s park clean-up work. Anderson devoted some 200 hours to the job in order to earn an Eagle Scout badge. He picked up trash and helped clear a 1,000-foot walking path with fellow members of Boy Scouts Troop 301 of Center Valley.
But SEIU’s Nick Balzano gave them hell instead of thanks.

Balzano disparaged altruistic efforts in city parks and asserted that “there is (sic) to be no volunteers” since his union members were laid off. He then issued a witch hunt threat: “We’ll also be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails. We may file another grievance on that.” Citing union rules, he gave the Allentown city council, the Boy Scouts, and all potential volunteers an iron-fisted ultimatum: “None of them can pick up a hoe. They can’t pick up a shovel. They can’t plant a flower. They can’t clear a bicycle path. They can’t do anything. Our people do that.”
