It was surmised that after he bowed so deeply to the Japanese Emperor, he would have to bow in China, as well, or risk insulting his Chinese hosts. That analysis appears to have been spot on.

Here he goes again following the student town hall meeting in Shanghai,  yesterday, watch around the 1:00 mark as he makes several small bows, and one deep one:

Now, all that said, all that acknowledgement that maybe this is a “blog issue,” as Greg Gutfeld said, let me note again something that makes it not just a “blog issue” at all: Obama lied. Gibbs lied. They were deliberately bowing to royalty, and just lying about it to the American public. Because, I guess, sometimes a lie is “diplomatic.”

So it seems while foreign royalty gets deep bows, the American public gets lies and fast-talk about it.

Actually… also taking it out of the realm of “blog issue” is that any symbolic act stands for something concrete and real. And Obama isn’t just showing the symbolism of deference, weakness, and appeasement; he’s actually practicing deference, weakness, and appeasement. His symbolic gesture then is simply confirmation of objective reality.

Aw: ACORN Ain’t Gettin’ Nuttin’ For Christmas

‘Cause they ain’t been nuttin’ but baaad.

Matthew Vadum at The American Spectator reports:

As its financial resources dwindle, radical advocacy group and organized crime syndicate ACORN may have to file for bankruptcy protection before Christmas, ACORN insiders say.

“They may have to file for bankruptcy if they don’t have several big pending grants approved or get emergency loans,” a highly placed ACORN source told me over the weekend. This information bolsters Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R-Calif.) claim last week that ACORN is in turmoil amidst internal power struggles and on the verge of bankruptcy.

Given that ACORN is a network of hundreds of affiliated nonprofits, it’s not exactly clear how a bankruptcy filing would work, but the idea is under serious consideration by ACORN’s leadership. It was discussed at length at the group’s most recent national board meeting, which took place in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., during the Oct. 14-15 weekend, ACORN sources told me.

But even if ACORN were to go bankrupt, that doesn’t mean it would disappear.

Poll Shows Majority of Americans Disagree With KSM Trial In NYC

The Obama administration’s decision to give 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shieikh Mohammed and other terrorists ” fair trials”, (as opposed to a military tribunals) we are  told “upholds American values”.

It turns out, two thirds of us don’t share those values:

Two-thirds of Americans disagree with the Obama administration’s decision to try Khalid Sheik Mohammed in a civilian court rather than a military court, according to a new national poll.

Among those two thirds happens to be New York’s Democrat Governor Paterson.

“This is not a decision that I would have made,” he said when asked about the upcoming trials of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and his four underlings in Manhattan Federal Court.

“It’s a little inconsistent with what he told me last week,” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told the Daily News last night after being honored on the East Side with the Brennan Center for Justice Legacy Award.

The WSJ’ Bret Stephens has long thought that bringing KSM et al back to NYC is a good idea, but his vision is somewhat different from the Obama administration’s:

In my concept, the men would be taken by helicopter to a height of about 1,000 feet over Ground Zero and pushed out the door, so that they, too, could experience what so many of their victims did in the awful final flickering seconds of their lives.

And since al Qaeda intended the attacks as a spectacle for the benefit of its would-be recruits, I’d give al Jazeera the exclusive TV rights.

I get it now…ground zero should be the last thing KSM sees.

I just blogged about it on my site but haven’t seen many mentions of it. ANSWERFL had apparently sent around an email prior to the rally calling on members to take militant action against the “teabagers” etc.

A.N.S.W.E.R. hired thugs attacked an immigration enforcement rally in Florida brutally beating two Tea Party protesters in broad daylight. One victim was 62-years-old Dave Caulkett of Floridians for Immigration Enforcement and as this video shows while the old man was down on the ground after being pummeled he was kicked in the face and the A.N.S.W.E.R. organizers cheered as their goons continued to assault him:

The left wants a civil war.

Heads Up Conservative Catholics

Next Sunday Catholic churches all across the country will be passing the baskets for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. It saddens me to say, you may want to consider not giving, this year.

Richard A. Viguerie, a ‘founder of the modern conservative movement’ and an active member of a Catholic parish in the Arlington, Virginia diocese, is sending word to Catholics throughout America, to inform them of the nature of organizations supported by the leftwing  Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Until the problems are corrected, I see no reason to support this drive.

Catholics are led to believe that their contributions to CCHD are used to help the poor – funding soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other worthwhile projects that provide aid to the least fortunate among us.

In fact, it appears almost none of the money goes to the poor.

Rather, it goes to organizations that engage in “community organizing” to promote a political agenda that many Catholics would find abhorrent, if only they knew. CCHD’s stated goal is “breaking the cycle of poverty,” but CCHD-funding organizations support policies that make it next to impossible for the poor to escape their circumstances.

It’s time for America’s Catholics to rise up, let their voices be heard, and take the ACTION STEPS listed below.

ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) received some $7.3 million from the CCHD in 1998-2008, and even more in earlier years. ACORN’s direct funding from CCHD was cut off in 2008, but only because of an eight-year-old embezzlement scandal that made it impossible to get a proper accounting of the money.

It appears that the Bishops’ problem was with ACORN’s poor “accounting” practices, rather than with the goals and tactics of a group that blurs the distinction between a radical political organization and a Mafia-style racket.

ACORN is currently under investigation or indictment in 20 states for voter fraud.

But ACORN is only one of many problematic organizations that has been supported by CCHD:

According to Matthew Vadum of the Capital Research Center, CCHD money has funded the Industrial Areas Foundation (described by its founder as a “school for professional radicals”), the Midwest Academy (which trains in left-wing confrontation and intimidation), and other related organizations such as the Direct Action and Research Training Institute, People Improving Communities through Organizing (PICO), and the Gamaliel Foundation.

The network of organizations funded by CCHD is rooted not in the principles of Jesus Christ, who eschewed politics, but in the teachings of a Marxist and atheist, Saul Alinsky.

The Gamaliel Foundation, the Midwest Academy, and PICO have earned themselves profiles at David Horowitz’s guide to the political left, Discover the Networks.

Wade, former presidential candidate Alan Keyes, two ladies – Jane Brennan, author of Motherhood Interrupted (2008), and Laura Rohling – who preach about healing and hope after abortion in the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado, and many other non-violent participants in America’s pro-life movement.

Doug Hoffman Announces He’s “Un-Conceding” NY-23 Race On Glenn Beck Show

Can he do that?

Just saw this via Twitter:

Doug Hoffman now only trails Owens by 2,000 votes. There are over 10,000 ballots left to count.  The final count will be complete by Thursday.

Another update: AT 9:30 am CST on the Glenn Beck radio program, Doug Hoffman said he’s “UN”-conceding and looking forward to the vote count! The un-conceding is of course unofficial, BUT Owens has said that if the vote count goes to Hoffman, he will step down.

This Free Republic post corroborates:

Doug Hoffman just told Glenn Beck they are 2000 votes behind in NY 23with 10,000 absentee votes left to count.

This is NOT over.

Still a long shot…and if it turns out that he won the most votes, then what? Owens has already been sworn in. Would Pelosi really allow him to step down?

Ed Morrisey threw cold water on the prospect, last week, when it was widely reported that Hoffman still had a chance:

Now that Owens has taken the oath of office, the count of absentee ballots is technically moot.  The House would have to reject Owens in a floor challenge in order to seat Hoffman instead.  That’s even less likely than Hoffman winning the election with a 3026-vote gap prior to the absentee ballot count.

It would be a moral victory, anyway.

Hoffman told Neil Cavuto on Friday that The NY Board of Elections had told Nancy Pelosi that they could not certify the vote, but she still chose to swear in Owens (so he could vote for Pelosicare).

If she went ahead an seated Owens to the objection of the New York Board of Elections…well, that changes things in my estimation. It would be a major scandal for Owens not to step down under those circumstances.

Massachusetts School Bans Christmas Items From “Holiday” Shop

Santa Clause items deemed one step away from Nazi stuff  according to one parent.

When a couple of parents suggested, you know…Christmasy items be allowed in the school’s holiday shop, even red and green tissue paper was rejected. No holiday related items to be allowed at the holiday sale!

After meeting with members of the Byam Elementary School PTO, two mothers asking to put the holidays back into the school’s annual holiday gift shop say Byam isn’t budging.

Kathryn McMillan and Kathleen Cullen, who both have children at Byam, asked school officials to allow all holiday items at the gift shop following a ban on Santa, candy canes, stockings, and all Christmas, Hanukkah and other “religious items.”

But a meeting with some PTO parents on Thursday night grew heated as emotions got in the way.

Red and green tissue paper to wrap presents was also crossed off the list because it looked too “Christmasy,” McMillan said.

“One of the parents said, ‘If we allow Santa, what do we say if a child brings in a swastika? Do we allow that too?’ ” McMillan said. “All I could think of was, are you kidding? You’re comparing a Christmas ornament to a swastika? It seems as if reason is lost somewhere and I just hope we can find it again.”

Let’s see… Santa is is a fictional character who brings joy to children all around the world…. and the swastika represents one of the most evil regimes the world has ever known; one that killed millions of innocent men women and children…

Yeah, sure…I can totally see the confusion, there…..GAH! I am so glad I don’t live in Taxachusetts.

What’s sad is, this type of demented, leftist mindset now infects the highest levels of our government.

Without getting too carried away, this incident is a neat little example of Obama’s foreign-policy blunder-fest. First, the arrogance — he lived abroad, don’t you know. He “gets” other cultures. Second, the ignorance — no, he doesn’t. He should not have done this, both because it is an affront to American dignity (we have not submitted to monarchs since 1776) and because it conveys the wrong message to the Japanese. Third, Obama’s natural inclination is groveling, ingratiating, and general suck-uppery. He seems to believe that, rather than an erect projection of American strength, submissiveness is going to get him/us somewhere.

Obama Bows Yet Again

Good grief. Did he learn nothing from the last time?

Obama bows to Japanese Emperor Akihito

Remember how the White House tried to claim that Obama’s bow to King Abdullah was not  a bow?  What’s the White House going to say this time? That he was reaching down to pick up something on the floor again? It wasn’t a bow, he’s just “taller” than Emperor Akihito or some such nonsense?

Scott Johnson at Powerline had this to say about Obama’s breach of presidential protocol:

Obama’s breach of protocol is of a piece with the substance of his foreign policy. He means to teach Americans to bow before monarchs and tyrants. He embodies the ideological multiculturalism that sets the United States on the same plane as other regimes based on tribal privilege and royal bloodlines.

He gives expressive form to the idea that the United States now willingly prostrates itself before the rest of the world. He declares that the United States is a country like any other, only worse, because we have so much for which to apologize.

John Hinderaker goes on to note this in the context of Obama’s extension of his apology tour to Japan. His speech in Tokyo “was largely an attack on his own country’s recent history and policies” and “a slap at President George W. Bush”.

Was bowing and scraping to monarchs, reaching out to tyrants, and back stabbing allies what the left had in mind when they said that Obama would restore our standing in the world?

In terms of Japanese etiquette, not only is he proclaiming his lesser status to the Emperor, he’s not even proclaiming his own status as a ’state leader’.
Hint: it’s the kind of ‘bow’ a lower-level ’salary-man’ [or Senior OL (office lady)] would make.
Not even the CEO of Mitsubishi would bow that low.
If this was meant to ‘impress’ the people of Japan, it’s an ‘Godzilla-sized’ epic fail. Obama has gone beyond about 5 AU’s past ‘joke’ status with this gaff.

And, to make matters even worse, He did this BEFORE going to the PRC. The SCM in China will have a field-day with this.

To the average Chinese: he ‘appears’ subservient to the Japanese, especially if he doesn’t render a similar bow to Hu [and yes, it will be perceived as an insult.]
To the Party Elites seeing this: he’s a uncultured fool with absolutely no sense of ‘face’.

In the ‘world’ of Asian culture, that’s a disaster on a level I can barely begin to explain to you. To put it bluntly, in the eyes of PRC’s ruling-elite, any credibility Obama had as a ’state’ leader, is gone.

Oh, don’t worry. They’ll go thru the motions and treat him as a ‘head of state’, but behind closed doors, amongst themselves they’ll regard him as little better than a land-less peasant, or worse, a self-effacing bureaucratic ‘toady’.
We are so f*cking screwed with mega-bozo at the helm.

He’s gone past Carter with this . . . with a JATO pack strapped to his a$$.

This is the mother of all gaffs.

These are strong words coming from Krauthammer, and all the more devastating because he is absolutely correct. The decision to try the 9/11 terrorists not only on American soil, but just a few blocks away from the attack is a travesty.

Karl Rove strongly protested on O’Reilly  pointing  out that the same “outside pressures” that held up the military tribunals were recruited by Holder’s justice Dept. and that this  is the result of a “longstanding plot by a bunch of left-wing lawyers who do not love America, who want to undermine our cause in the global war on terror, who opposed the military tribunals…”

Debra Burlingame, the sister of Chic Burlingame, the American Airlines pilot of one of the planes hijacked on Sept. 11 is furious, as are many other 9/11 families. The Politico reports:

She said more than 300 family members have implored the administration not to move the trial to New York. “They know we don’t support this. We support military commissions but they are going to see a wave of fury, and I don’t think they’re prepared for it,” she said Friday after the decision became public.

She cuts to the chase:

“This is all going to be about waterboarding and talking about how they were ‘tortured.’ Their lawyers are going turn these people into victims,” she said.

I didn’t know this:

“When he was captured in Pakistan, his first response to the first question was, I’ll talk to you in NY with my lawyer,” she said. “They’re going to exult in the deaths of 200 people and the suffering of their families just blocks from where the parts of their bodies were found … This is a travesty and we will regret this day.” (I think the 200 is a typo for 2000.)

I’ve regretted most days of this Presidency, but this one is right up there.

ACORN Drama In LA

Have you been following the latest over at Big Government?

If not, you need to go over and read Andrew Breitbart’s latest post about his confrontation with ACORN protesters in LA. It’s funny, yet disturbing  stuff featuring ACORN community organizers protesting in front of a Fox affiliate in LA with signs that say “Ask me about ACORN” who run away when asked about ACORN.

But when it’s all over, and they take off their ACORN shirts…..

Part 2 features the ACORN community organizer pictured above waxing eloquent on how ACORN got Obama elected “under the grapevine” getting “X millions of dollars” to “put in Obama”.

Yikes.
