Moreover, an unfortunately timed “African Americans for Harry Reid” event will go on as scheduled this week, as Reid “seeks to weather a political firestorm sparked by his racially insensitive remarks about President Barack Obama”.
The timing of the launch of the “African Americans for Harry Reid” campaign group, which is scheduled for Thursday in Las Vegas, is coincidental. The luncheon had been scheduled for weeks.
Obama says “he’s always been on the right side of the issues”, signaling that nothing Reid has said should be taken by blacks to be in the least bit objectionable, as would most certainly be the case if he was someone on the “wrong side of the issues”.

UPDATE:
Rush is wrong!
(Kathleen McKinley got mentioned on Rush, yesterday, for saying he was right. I wonder if I’ll get mentioned for saying he was wrong)…
Probably not, but he just reported the old numbers from last night, 5 Facebook friends, 4 of them white.
There are now 51 friends on the African Americans For Harry Reid Facebook page -all but 2 white.
Whoops! Now there’s 87 since he mentioned it.

This event “African Americans for Reid” is insane. For the love of God, this man has said something that is clearly “racist” and many African American leaders are coming to his rescue. I have to believe that there are many African Americans that dont buy into this B.S. This is disgusting.

We Blacks who support Mr. Reid are NOT insane. We have looked at all the relevant information. First, Reid is an older American who came up in an era when the word “Negro” was accepted by Blacks and Whites. Second, etimologically, there is nothing wrong with the word Negro; the word actually means Black. Third, it IS true that white people have only a slightly greater affinity with light-in-color Blacks but this this is no accolade. White people have problems with any people who don’t look like them. Moreover, even Blacks have an affinity for people with lighter color. That’s why Black males who rise on the socio-economic ladder prefer either lightcolored Black women or white women. Quite frankly, say what you will about me, I don’t want somebody who represents me to be speaking in Ebonics! So cut the crap! Blacks are always looking for a reason to attack whites and it’s almost always petty issues. What Blacks need to focus on is how to get that part of our population who won’t stop wallowing in the lower realm of life and rise up to the occasion of contributing to the upward mobility of the race. Quite frankly, I’m sick to death of the ‘people of the hood’ who continue to dwell on drugs, won’t join the responsible work force, won’t stop having babies that they can’t afford and don’t know how to raise and don’t subscribe to academic pursuits to raise the bar for their personal lives.

.White people have problems with any people who don’t look like them.
I can’t tell you how sad it makes me that you actually believe that.
So much of what you have to say sounds so conservative I can’t believe you support the party that perpetuates the problems in the black community for political gain.

Im a black American, and yesterday, i did an expreriment. When I spoke to black people that i deal with daily, I decided to ask them not to talk to me in a “Negro Dialect”, just to see what their reactions would be. I spoke to 5 black people, and ask them not to use what obama said was not offensive. All 5 found what i ask them to offensive. Some was about to curse me out for saying it. So, obama, sharpton, naacp, juan williams, black caucus, you better stop selling us out to the democrate party, or else. And since obama is half white, i dont concider him a sell out. just typical.

Well, Nicedeb, I can only say that you can’t believe it because you’re not on the receiving end of bigotry. I’m not saying that you don’t see it sometimes; however, any good social scientist will tell you that most or at least half of what we as humans internalize we are not aware that it lies dwelling just beneath the conscious level. So while most whites will state that they are not racist or don’t hold bigoted views, the collective behavior reveals itself too well. Moreover, you feel that because I view a large portion of the population of Blacks are undereducated and esconced in self-defeating activities, you view that as a conservative perspective. It’s a fact! If people don’t like hearing it, then it corroborates my theory of denial on the part of both races. While both races have issues, the whites are way ahead of us on many fronts; and we have always been at their pleasure…although it wasn’t necessarily pleasurable for us. Do you understand that whites are for keeping whites at the top and keeping Blacks under them. These are daily topics among us no matter what the social rank. I suppose it’s a natural outlook. Our job, however, is to get out from under them so we are not so easily manipulated and exploited. If that’s a conservative perspective then it’s a position we have been in and continue to be. I also have a comment about Arthur’s asking five people not to speak in a so-called Negro dialect. One of two things happened: either the people whom he asked were people who didn’t speak in this dialect anyway and didn’t like being told what to do (even if it were something they might not do anyway) or they were people who were prone to speak in this dialect and still don’t like being told what to do. Most Blacks who are decently educated know not to speak in this manner when they are in the company of whites simply because whites will make stereotype them, then base their behavior on their judgments . When Blacks are among their own, then they feel more comfortable doing so. Let me end by stating that I am a Democrat. Further, Mr. Reid definitely has been supportive to the needs of the Black community and the president; therefore, I’m not kicking him to curb!

A lot of what you say makes sense, and then you come out with something like:
While both races have issues, the whites are way ahead of us on many fronts; and we have always been at their pleasure…although it wasn’t necessarily pleasurable for us. Do you understand that whites are for keeping whites at the top and keeping Blacks under them.
Why can you not understand that most whites prefer to live in a colorblind society, and if not for the constant race-baiting coming from the Dem side of the aisle we WOULD live in a by and large colorblind society. It’s not whites that keep blacks down, but white libs and black libs.

Nicedeb: both races have issues because we have come from a historical legacy of racism…a system whereby whites were/are on top and Blacks are on the bottom. Understand, I’m merely speaking about the collective on both sides and not the few. It’s difficult for me to understand why you think that we live in a largely colorblind society. I suppose much of it would have to do with your age group and where you were raised. YOU might very well be a person who is colorblind…maybe…but that doesn’t speak for the bulk of whites. Perhaps you should do as Arthur did and take your own sampling. Should you decide to do it, however, be sure not to let the respondent know your views because what the respondent says will be adjusted to what he or she thinks you want to hear. You seem to think so much of the racism is fueled by liberals. I don’t necessarily see that but perhaps so. Besides, let me get this straight: you don’t think that whites are way ahead of Us??? Moreover, have you been in the South for any period of time? This is where I live and nothing that you’re saying bears any remote resemblance of a so-called “colorblind” society. It is very socially segregated. Yes, whites are gracious in their demeanor, but it belies very strong rules about fraternizing with people of color (I say people of color because this standardard applies to anyone that’s not white). Perhaps you’ve led an insulated life. I grew up in a neighborhood and school which were predominantly white. So I tended to identify culturally with whites. Later I began to see and hear some things that I hadn’t pick up on before. It was a hard fall, Nicedeb. In spite of all I have said, when I encounter whites who are sincere and don’t tell me what they think I want to hear, I very much appreciate them because I’m a pretty much of a straightforward kind of person. If you don’t wish to continue this in a public forum, you can reach me at sameera@knology.net. I have no problems with that. Take care.

you don’t think that whites are way ahead of Us???
I didn’t say that. I do say we aren’t responsible for keeping blacks down.
Moreover, have you been in the South for any period of time? This is where I live and nothing that you’re saying bears any remote resemblance of a so-called “colorblind” society. It is very socially segregated.
I live in the Midwest and any segregation I see here, is self-imposed.
My Goddaughter married a black man and has two outrageously cute babies with him. I love them all. I really do believe most whites want to treat everyone the same way.
In case you come back, here is a black conservative you should read:
http://baldilocks.typepad.com/
She has the same opinion as you on what Harry Reid said, by the way.
You take care, too.
