RS McCain Wins $20.00 At CPAC

Robert Stacy McCain had $20 riding on a bet that Glenn Beck would cry at some point in his speech. There were many close calls, but it didn’t happen until the very last minute… I was able to  capture the moment:

UPDATE:

Well, now I’m hearing the status of the bet is in dispute. Some are saying it might have been sweat… We may need an instant replay.

CPAC Day 3

An on fire Andrew Breitbart was introduced by the charming and lovely Hannah Giles, at 9:00 am, and brought down the house. His message to the MSM was: Bring it on! I’ll put up a video as soon as one appears, because you’re going to want to see that.

In the meantime, here is an interview he did with Politico, yesterday:

Live streaming coverage of CPAC at Townhall.

Pajamas Media is covering the tea party angle, at CPAC,  here.

UPDATE:

Andrew stopped by the bloggers lounge, and held court for awhile, after his speech. Oh my goodness does that man love to talk! He was very affable, and approachable,  took questions, and cheerfully posed for pictures. I thanked him for the awesome job he’s been doing taking on the liberal establishment…for being our Pied Piper so to speak.

I didn’t have my camera with me, I had left it up in my room, so you can imagine my frustration as everyone else was clicking away. Cynthia Yockey graciously volunteered to snap a photo of me with him.

The Other McCain, who we can thank for nabbing Andrew, has more, here.

Breitbart’s confrontation with Salon dweeb Max Blumenthal, at The Newsreal Blog.

UPDATE:

Ann Coulter speaking now. She is killing out there. Coulter will almost certainly be Olbermann’s Worst Person of the day for calling him a girl…. Remember, live streaming, here.

I thought she was joking when she said that The National Enquirer was up for a Pulitzer prize. Apparently not.

MORE:

I spoke briefly with a worker rights activist, and proprietor of the Workforce Fairness Institute Website, yesterday, and he informed me that The Employee Free Choice Act, (or Card Check) is not as dead as we might want to think.

The danger of the Employee Forced Choice Act extends well beyond a denial of workers’ democratic rights. EFCA would dramatically change the nature of the American workplace, inserting Washington bureaucrats into the most basic decisions about your job or your business. If an employer and a union don’t reach a contract agreement within 90 days, a Federal “arbitrator” can step in to unilaterally impose contract terms — without a full vote of the workforce that is currently required in union contract negotiations. That’s right: EFCA not only ends automatic elections on whether to form a union, but it drastically undermines your right to vote on contracts too.

EFCA would create a culture of cynicism and mistrust in American workplaces — when surveys show that over 74% of workers not in unions are satisfied with workplace relations. Workers could see unions formed in the dark of night and take over control of their workplace without their knowledge.  Stealth union campaigns could target workers again and again to sign cards in their homes at night or wherever a union could track them down. And at the end of it, Federal bureaucrats could be given absolute control to impose unfair contracts dictating how workers do their jobs.

I’m adding his website to my blogroll,

Congressman Mike Pence Visits Bloggers’ Row

Mike Pence rocked the house, at CPAC, this morning:

He visited the bloggers lounge, a bit  later in the afternoon, and took some questions:

Little known facts: Mike Pence was once a radio commentator. Also, he was the first Congressman to have his own blog.

When asked what the chances were that the Republicans would retake the House, Pence said, 100%!

CPAC!

Just got here, and met Jacob Turk in the lobby. He’s the candidate for Congress from the 5th district,  (my district in Missouri),  who’s hoping to unseat Emanuel Cleaver. Before I even checked in.

I’ve already missed Mark Rubio, who apparently mingled with the bloggers in the bloggers lounge, and Dick Cheney who gave a short, but reportedly sweet speech, earlier today…I’m so bummed I missed that!

Photo courtesy of Kevin from Lakeshore Laments

The rumor is that there’s a bloggers’ bash going on, here, somewhere, so my quest for tonight is to find it. Which could be hard considering…

Did I mention that I lost my glasses a week ago and they never turned up? Yeah, I’m in Washington DC, virtually blind. (cue the troll snarks).  The cabbie pointed out a white blur to me that turned out to be the Lincoln Memorial. Yes, it’s that bad.

That’s all for now, just wanted to check in.

On Eve Of CPAC, Conservative Leaders Unite Around Principles And Objectives: The Mount Vernon Statement

A media alert sent to me via email:

BOZELL JOINS 80+ CONSERVATIVE LEADERS IN SIGNING “THE MOUNT VERNON STATEMENT” TO DEFINE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES, BELIEFS AND VALUES

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Today Media Research Center President Brent Bozell joins more than 80 conservative leaders representing tens of millions of conservative activists to unveil and sign “The Mount Vernon Statement” – a document created to define the conservative movement’s principles and objectives by publicly documenting them on the eve of the nation’s largest conservative conference, CPAC.

The proceedings, led by former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese, will set a clear vision for Americans and lay out the need for Constitutional Conservatism in light of the changes that have taken place under the Obama administration.   The ceremony will be held at the Collingwood Estate, part of the original land that was the home of President George Washington.  Brent Bozell released the following statement regarding today’s events:

“If there is a silver lining to the policies the Obama administration has tried to shove down the throats of Americans, it’s that more and more of them don’t want any part of it.

“Conservatives are in an excellent position to make the case for Constitutional Conservatism. It’s only taken one year for Americans to see that nothing good comes from Big Government and radically liberal policies, especially at a time when our nation needs economic growth and family values.

“The Mount Vernon Statement solidifies the conservative movement as vibrant and energized, ready to lead America into a renewed era of liberty and self government. Conservatives must reinstitute the great principles that defined us by our nation’s founders.  Conservatives must work to fight the radical agenda that threatens our jobs, our security, our values and our security.  And conservatives must do it together.”

The signing ceremony will be held Wednesday at Mount Vernon.

Catholic Bishops Jump On Global Warming Bandwagon Just As Wheels Are Falling Off the Hoax

This is so sad. We all want to be good stewards of the earth. We all believe in conservation, clean air and water, but this latest push by the Bishops  seems to take as gospel the decidedly not settled science of man made global warming.

In its latest Public Policy Insights newsletter, emailed to subscribers on Feb. 12, the“As the Lenten season arrives, the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change has provided Catholics, schools and organizations with more tools and resources for its annual Catholic Climate Covenant,” says the newsletter. “The Coalition was formed three and a half years ago to help implement the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) 2001 initiative ‘Global Climate Change: A Plea for Dialogue, Prudence and the Common Good.’ Launched last year, the Covenant revolves around the St. Francis Pledge, which correlates five key actions — pray, learn, assess, act and advocate — to the issues of the environment and poverty.”

According to the newsletter, “the Archdiocese of Washington’s Environmental Outreach Committee has created a particularly useful new tool: a calendar that lists 40 carbon-fasting measures individuals can take to reduce their carbon footprint.” The newsletter provides a link to the full calendar. is recommending a new way to observe Lent, which begins tomorrow. The newsletter is produced by the California Catholic Conference, the lobbying arm of the state’s bishops.

You can view the whole calendar, here. (Well, hm. It seems to have been removed. Good thing I saved it).

March 1st, they’re suggesting that Catholics call their leaders and ask them to take action on climate change, today! Speak out! March 17th: Buy “Renewable Energy credits”?

Really, Bishops?

Really?!

You want the faithful lobbying Congress for an economy crushing Cap and Tax bill?

Who wrote this, Obama’s Science Czar, John Holdren?

March 19th asks us to learn something new about climate change… That’s what a lot of us have been doing. As evidenced by the responses at The California Catholic Daily:

Is Al Gore part of the CCC? Show reverence for the Earth? The only thing missing is the CCC refering to this planet as Holy Mother Earth. Care for our environment yes-become a tree hugging, bunny loving liberal-no way. It seems some in the Church have bought the man made global warming lie and have chosen Lent to spread the lie under the pretext of a Lenten sacrifice.

How absurd for any Catholic orginization to be worried about carbon footprint – which is absurd in itself – no wonder our Church is in such a sorry state. With leadership like this there won’t be any followers.

I shudder to think that Christ’s apostles squander their authority on stuff and nonsense. To try to reduce one’s carbon footprint implies a belief in man-made global warming, more discredited every day, and confuses as to what is faith and what opinion of the moment. To reduce pollution is another matter: Clean air, water and food are obviously true human goods. Dear Bishops, please get with it. You look foolish when you slavishly follow the world….especially the world that’s so “last month.” Please, please, dear Bishops, look at what everyone else is talking about….the great Climate-Gate U-Turn as reported in the UK Daily Mail on Feb.15.

None of the responses I read were supportive of this embarrassing effort. What a shame. They don’t realize that these overwrought green policies are like  religious observances to the Gaia worshipers they’re emulating.

Environmental extremists should never be considered  the allies of the Catholic Church, because as Dr Zero noted in a very poignant piece in The Greenroom, their policies have left a horrendous death toll on the populations of the world, most notably in the banning of DDT:

Those who were initiated into the higher mysteries of environmentalism saw the reduction of the human population as a benefit, although they’re generally more circumspect about saying so in public these days. As quoted by Walter Williams, the founder of the Malthusian Club of Rome, Alexander King, wrote in 1990: “My own doubts came when DDT was introduced. In Gauyana, within two years, it had almost eliminated malaria. So my chief quarrel with DDT, in hindsight, is that it has greatly added to the population problem.” Another charming quote comes from Dr. Charles Wurster, a leading opponent of DDT, who said of malaria deaths: “People are the cause of all the problems. We have too many of them. We need to get rid of some of them, and this is as good a way as any.”

Like the high priests of global warming, Rachel Carson knew what she was doing. She claimed DDT would actually destroy all life on Earth if its use continued – the “silent spring” of the title is a literal description of the apocalypse she forecast. She misused a quote from Albert Schweitzer about atomic warfare, implying the late doctor agreed with her crusade against pesticide by dedicating her book to him… when, in fact, Schweitzer viewed DDT as a “ray of hope” against disease-carrying insects. Some of the scientists attempting to debunk her hysteria went so far as to eat chunks of DDT to prove it was harmless, but she and her allies simply ignored them, making these skeptics the forerunners of today’s “global warming deniers” – absolutely correct and utterly vilified. William Ruckleshaus disregarded nine thousand pages of testimony when he imposed the DDT ban. Then as now, the science was settled… beneath a mass of politics and ideology.

60 million lives claimed by mosquito-borne malaria in Africa as a result of the ungodly politics and ideology of environmental extremists.

Happy Ash Wednesday.

My thesis is that once any movement begins to engage in hollow, ridiculous and futile gestures (such as “dancing for” anything), it’s an indicator that the movement has run out of steam and will soon go extinct. It is therefore with great interest that I’ve been noticing not just the strange new outbreak and continuous barrage of climate change dances but more significantly an upcoming lecture being given at U.C. Pamela May Be On To Something…

Does it look like the Dems have made such a mess of things, all of their dastardly plans are crashing down around them? Dem congressmen are jumping ship like rats, and the 2010 election looks like a huge blowout for the Republicans?

Don’t get overconfident. Things may look good for us now, but things can change quickly, and always remember; Dems don’t play fair, they will lie, cheat, steal and throw their grandmas under the bus in order gain or retain  power.

Pamela Geller, writing for Big Government, thinks she’s got a handle on what they are up to, now:

Many capitalists, freedom lovers and individualists are gleeful about all of the early retirements of statists and crooks in the Democrat party. Rats bolt a sinking ship. They believe this indicates victory. It does not. While Republicans are rubbing their hands in glee at the sheer number of Democrat incumbents not running for re-election, I am not.

It is often said if the Democrats are the vicious party, the Republicans are the stupid party.  What the Republicans lack in malevolence, they try to make up for with earnestness. But make no mistake: the Democrats never back down, never give up, never give in. They don’t. They are pit bulls. And while the Democrats are devoid of good ideas and good governance, they excel in abhorrent and detestable tactics in winning. They work by stealth.

And in this case, the retirements don’t indicate defeat. They indicate a new Democrat strategy. The retirements are part of a plan: everyone under the bus for the good of the party and the socialist state it is constructing. The Democrat strategy for 2010 is to make the failure of Barack Obama and the Pelosi/Reid Congress all about the incumbents, not the party itself. They are going to make the failure of this Administration about the candidates, not the party, when in fact it is party, party, party. Take the rancid Dodd, for example. He will be replaced with an attractive statist who does not have the ugly history of Dodd’s graft, corruption and racketeering, but who shares Dodd’s collectivist bent.

I expect the Democrats to pull their moderate ruse again by throwing up bunches of blue dogs to con the people. Then they will continue to ramrod the American people with their collectivist, statist agenda. They will run new faces without records that are soiled by the horrendous anti-American, anti-business, anti-national security, anti-individual, anti-small government, anti-tax cut record of the Democrats — and they will sucker the American people, yet again.

I expressed my own concerns about the Democrats’ odd, and incongruous overconfidence, here and here. I hope we’re wrong. I really do. But if the Dems do try to pull these ruses, the Republican message for 2010, and 2012  should be: Don’t get fooled, again.

Impeach Obama Billboard Appears In Wisconsin

The Post Crescent reports:

The sign appeared Thursday and will remain in place for six months. Its message quickly generated national media attention and ignited a firestorm of debate online, often along political lines. A Google search for “impeach Obama billboard” generated 346,000 results Tuesday afternoon.

Father and son attorneys, Thomas S. Wroblewski, and Thomas J. Wroblewski  represent the unnamed company that rented the billboard and are not responsible for its message.

Wroblewski said he received angry telephone calls at his office Monday. He said the rage directed at him and his father is misplaced.

“We represent a group of small-business owners,” he said. “We organized the company and solicited the contract on their behalf.”

Wroblewski said he could not divulge any details about the business owners.
“My instructions from my clients are not to disclose their identity,” he said.

According to this local news report, people have been stopping on the side of the road to take pictures:

Video: Forced Unionization Of Child Care Providers in MI

This will make your blood boil.

As Stossel says, it’s a scheme between the unions and Democrats to “scarf up some money”.

Fourteen states have  enabled home-based day-care providers to be organized into public-employee unions, affecting about 233,000 people.

Help may be on the way for these women. Eric Larson of Red State Electric reported a couple of weeks ago:

My friend and state legislator, Justin Amash, has been busy introducing bills the past few weeks. A story that developed over the holiday break was shocking only if you’ve fallen asleep for 50 years and awoken in a seemingly foreign land of hyperregulation. At issue are two women running a private day care in Northern Michigan who were surpised to see that the state of Michigan was withholding union dues.

He thinks the unwanted media attention this story has garnered will undo the indefensible  program.

MSM Still AWOL On Climategate

Even as the Climategate scandal grows and AGW theory is exposed as the hoax it is, Obama, using executive powers, is  forcing a “carbon-controlling regime on us”, a regime that would never have passed in Congress.

Now more than ever, we need a media to help expose the fraud, instead of primarily alternative media like talk radio and right wing bloggers. Where is the MSM? Even the state run media in the UK is doing a better job of uncovering the truth.

See Ace for the latest Climate news, (which is coming from the British press):

CRU’s Former Head Phil Jones: Well, I Guess Maybe There Hasn’t Been Any Warming Since 1995, And Oh Yeah, Maybe The Medieval Warm Period and Subsequent Periods Were Warmer Than Things Are Now

Even without the MSM’s help, the AGW scam has people wanting heads to roll, influential people even:

Donald Trump Wants Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize Stripped

According to Newsbusters,

“With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back, ” Trump recently told members of his Westchester, New York, country club according to the New York Post.

When he was through, the crowd 500 gave him a standing O.

Over at the American Thinker, S Fred Singer is predicting The end of the IPCC.

We learn from the e-mails that the ClimateGate gang was able to “hide the decline” [of global temperature] by applying what they termed as “tricks,” and that they intimidated editors and forced out those judged to be “uncooperative.” No doubt, thorough investigations, now in progress or planned, will disclose the full range of their nefarious activities. But it is clear that this small cabal was able to convince much of the world that climate disasters were impending — unless drastic steps were taken. Not only were most of the media, public, and politicians misled, but so were many scientists, national academies of science, and professional organizations — and even the Norwegian committee that awarded the 2007 Peace Prize to the IPCC and Al Gore, the chief apostle of climate alarmism.

In this enterprise, the group was aided not only by environmental zealots, anti-technology Luddites, utopian one-worlders, and population-control fanatics, but also by bureaucrats, businesses, brokers and bankers, who had learned how to game the system and profit from government grants and subsidies for exotic schemes to produce “carbon-free” energy and from the trading of carbon permits. Hundreds of billions have already been wasted — most of this in transfers of tax revenues to a favored few.

Meanwhile, in liberal Lalaland, as the science continues to unravel, Howard Dean charges:

Republicans don’t believe in science

Which is something the left likes to do: accuse their critics of being ignorant rubes who have no idea what they’re talking about. It’s a strategy that often works for them, as many people sign on to their cockamamie theories just so they can be “enlightened”, too.

But Ed Morrissy points out a little problem with Dean’s verbiage:

He vents his frustration at Republicans who refuse to adopt the belief system of global warming, annoyed at the jibes from skeptics over the snowstorm that has socked in the mid-Atlantic region this month.

“One of the most disturbing things about the Republican Party over the last couple of decades is that they just don’t believe in science any more. And that is not an approach that is likely to generate any kind of creative thinking…People who use snowstorms as an example of why global warming doesn’t exist don’t understand the science and they don’t care.”

Actually, we do respect science. What we don’t do is adopt belief systems based on hypotheses from so-called scientists that use incomplete and unreliable predictive modeling, include wild conjectures as fact, pass off student dissertations as reliable research, and accept advocacy claims without testing, all while conspiring to hide contradictory evidence and scheme to ruin the careers of those who question them. Science requires that claims get tested, that predictive models that fail get discarded, that data and process remain open for review, and that critical thinking get welcomed instead of demonized.

The jig is up for the AGW hoaxsters. Someone alert the media.
