90 Seconds to Government Run Healthcare

The NRCC has put out a clever new video that attempts to explain the legislative abuses of the past nine months in  mere 90 seconds:

Posted in Repubs. 4 Comments »

72 Hours to “Kill The Bill”

Graphic courtesy of iOWNTHEWORLD

I received this via email from Tea Party Express & American Grassroots Coalition…and am sharing it in its entirety for the many folks out there who I know want to do what they can  to make a difference in this fight.

Broad TEA Party Coalition Aligns To Defeat Pelosi-Care

STEP 1: Call Congress and tell them to “Kill The Bill” –

1-877-762-8762 or 1-202-224-3121.  Melt the phone lines folks.  Do not relent.  Do not give up.  The stakes are too high for us to fail.  They want to have the government increasingly take over more and more of our healthcare system.  We must stop them NOW!  Call:  1-877-762-8762 or 1-202-224-3121

STEP 2:  Here’s the game plan for the next 72-hours.  If you can get to D.C. this Saturday – please do so.  If you can’t see how else you can help (including calling 1-877-762-8762 or 1-202-224-3121).

WASHINGTON, DC (March 18, 2010) – The past two weeks has seen the “Take The Town Halls To Washington” initiative get nearly 1,000 people to DC to meet with approximately 30 Congressman.  The event culminated in the rally at Taft Park near the Capitol which was sponsored by Tea Party Express.  Over 1,500 people assembled to rally against the healthcare bill and then meet with their representatives.  While the Capitol Police diverted the stage and sound for the park rally, grass roots activists innovated and used a park bench and bull horn to get their message to the attendees!

With the critical nature of a looming Congressional decision, a broad coalition of Tea Party organizations and leadership is launching the final push before a possible vote by the House.  These events are being coordinated across the US and are aimed at communicating the frustration of the people while demanding the termination of this health bill legislation.  While the DNC and the administration continue to obfuscate and confuse, this coalition is focused on getting activists involved prior to Pelosi’s maneuvering.

The following actions are planned for the next 72 hours:

  • Massive Phone Campaign to the House by constituents to vote no on the bill.
  • “Talk to Washington” healthcare town halls: Mississippi, Pennsylvania & more.
  • Code Red rally in Washington, DC at 12 noon on Saturday: Upper Senate Park.
  • Nationwide “Virtual Vigil” on BlogTalk radio by DoctorsandPatients.org
  • Candlelight vigil around the Capitol on Saturday night

Featured speakers at the Washington, D.C. Rally on Saturday will include:

  • Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann (MN)
  • Congressman Tom Price (GA)
  • Congressman Joe Wilson (SC)
  • Actor & Conservative John Voight
  • Dr. Milton Wolf, Barack Obama’s second cousin who opposes Obamacare
  • Colin Hanna, Let Freedom Ring
  • Jim Martin, 60 Plus
  • Phil Kerpen, Americans for Prosperity
  • Andrew Langer, Institute for Liberty
  • Kathryn Serkes, Doctor Patient Medical Association
  • Mark Skoda, Memphis Tea Party
  • Amy Kremer, Tea Party Express
  • Jennifer Hulsey, American Grassroots Coalition
  • FreedomWorks Representative
  • Ben Cunningham, Founder of the Tennessee Tax Revolt

Grass roots activists everywhere have worked to inform themselves, notify their representatives of their objections and take action in the form of rallies, meetings and calls into those representatives. Individual groups have worked to stop the healthcare legislation while coordinating with each other to amplify their message and their efforts.

Amy Kremer, of Tea Party Express, commented, “We had a great rally this week in DC and people have overwhelmed us with their desire to do it again on Saturday.  With so many people concerned about this legislation and the ability to come to Washington on a weekend, we are working within this coalition to expand the Code Red rally participation .”

The coalition of Tea Party organizations and leadership is committed to  changing the dynamics of this legislative process.  The Democratic led Congress is using procedural and legislative rules to ignore the overwhelming opposition to this bill.  The will of the American people is being subverted by these actions and the grass roots activists who make up this coalition are focusing their energy to kill the bill.

Video: Sen. Tom Coburn’s Message To Dems – “Be Prepared To Defend Selling Your Vote In The House”

Coburn  throws down the gauntlet:

Hat tip: Rush, video via Townhall.

See Also Tom Coburn’s oped out today: Health bill is malpractice

The fundamental problem in health care is cost. Every family knows that cost reduces access. As a nation, we spend twice as much on health care as any other industrialized country, but we aren’t any healthier as a result. A study by Thomson-Reuters shows that one in three dollars in our more than $2 trillion health care system does nothing to help people get well or prevent them from getting sick. If members of Congress focused their time and energy on allocating the health care dollars that are already in the system more efficiently—by reducing fraud and the costs associated with defensive medicine, for instance—we could lower cost and improve access overnight.

The bill before us, however, fails to do that. Instead, it builds on a broken and bankrupt system. The Senate bill will put 15 million Americans in the Medicaid program, which is bankrupting states and denying care to millions of American. Forty percent of doctors restrict access to Medicaid patients because reimbursement rates are so low. The rest of America will be funneled into the insurance industry the White House has been demonizing.

Video: Inspiring Words From Mike Pence – “America, We Can Win This Fight”

Rep. Mike Pence, (IN), Chairman of the House Republican Conference, took to the House floor, this morning, and made the following remarks:

Text via GOP.gov:

“This is a remarkable moment in the life of our nation. After years of runaway federal spending, deficits, debt, borrowing, bailouts and takeovers, against the opposition of a clear majority of the American people, the Democrats in Congress and in this administration are prepared to ram through a $1 trillion government takeover of health care.

It’s just hard to believe. Ignoring the will of the American people, twisting the rules of the House and the Senate into a pretzel, we are headed for a showdown this weekend. But I got to tell you, I like our chances.

The reason House Democrats don’t have the votes is because the American people know this is a government takeover of health care. Mandating that every American purchase health insurance whether they want it or need it or not, passing hundreds of billions of dollars in job-killing tax increases, providing public funding for abortions, and setting into motion government-run insurance that will cost millions to lose the insurance they have is a government takeover of health care.

Let’s have the debate. A minority in Congress plus the American people equals a majority. America, we can win this fight.”

Video: Fox News Special Report Panel Discusses Slaughter Rule

Some great comments from Krauthammer, as usual, and also Tucker Carlsen who compared entitlements to narcotics. Once you start on them, you become addicted, and can’t quit. And as we all know, addictions tend to have disastrous consequences:

Whatever it takes.

It sends a shiver down your spine, doesn’t it?

Janice Shaw at the American Thinker had some thoughts on how this bill is being rammed through: ObamaCare is Tyranny, Not Legislation:

What we’re seeing in Washington, D.C. is not “politics as usual” with the arm twisting and “horse trading” that is typical in getting a bill passed; instead, it is ideological warfare. What Obama, Reid and Pelosi are doing is not legislating; it is an act of tyranny — overturning all the rules and principles of government in a representative democracy. Attempting to pass the Senate version of ObamaCare in the House under the ironically named “Slaughter Rule” (to circumvent the objections of the Stupak coalition to taxpayer funding of abortion) is an exercise in raw power akin to the many acts of judicial tyranny the American public has endured over the last 40 years from judges who have little regard for the Constitution.

Apparently Obama, Reid and Pelosi aren’t worried about losing control of Congress in 2010 or even the presidency in 2012, because their higher goal is to irrevocably institutionalize their ideology. Once government control of health care is established, their leftist principles will be implemented by an unelected bureaucracy that rules without accountability to the general public, whether or not the Democratic Party is the majority in Congress or holds the presidency.

Which is why the Dem leadership is lying, cheating, bribing, plotting, scheming, saying and doing so many absurd and unthinkable things – just so they can inflict this Obamanation on an unwilling populous.

Smells like tyranny to me.

Latest ObamaCare News

Mike Pence appeared on MSNBC, earlier, today. He ducked the only question most of us care about:

Undecided IL Rep. Jerry Costello’s phone has been ringing off the hook:

Costello resisting White House pleas on health-care

Costello was one of the 220 House members who voted for the House version of health-care reform in November. Last week, he was undecided on Senate legislation that might come up for a vote Friday or Saturday.

But  Costello decided to oppose the Senate bill because of the cost, what he regards as the insufficient curbs on abortion funding and the state-specific provisions added to win votes in Nebraska, Louisiana and Florida.

The pressure on Costello has been intense, Gillies acknowledged, and sources said that some of that pressure is coming from the White House.

While Costello remains a ‘no’ on the Senate legislation, he is undecided on how he will vote on the so-called reconciliation legislation that making alterations in the final health-care package. That bill is being negotiated now in an effort to secure the 216 House votes needed for passage.

Good posts from Johm Boehner’s website: America Speaks: Opposition to Dems’ Job-Killing Gov’t Takeover of Health Care Grows Even Louder and Question of the Day: Will President Obama Endorse The “Slaughter Solution?” I heard that Brett Baier asked Obama that question in his interview with him, today, and unsurprisingly, our Constitutional scholar/President has no problem with it.

Allahpundit: Too good to check: Rep. Joe Barton says CBO score will exceed … $1 trillion and, like I said : Obama on Slaughter strategy: “I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the … rules are” and AP fact check: Premiums will rise under ObamaCare and ObamaCare whip count(s): Pelosi in trouble? – Allah predicts a heart-achey day at Hot Air, tomorrow, but hasn’t given up all hope.

Ace has the very latest: Five Different Whip Counts, And They All Conclude “It’s Close But We Can’t Say Either Way” (link fixed).

Democrats we need to contact: here.

Ace, too has a sinking feeling. The Dems who are on the fence, are….after all Dems. Lib on most issues, and finger to the wind on others. They may be betting that a yes vote would be the least damaging to themselves.

Paul Ryan, on Greta last night mentioned the inevitability strategy the Dems (Obama, Pelosi, Gibbs) are employing – to fool undecided Dems into voting with them, and demoralize the opposition.

Also striking, (although we all knew this): The fact that the Dems shut the Republicans out of the hugest social legislation in 40 years from the very beginning – they weren’t interested in collaborating because they didn’t need their votes. Despicable.

Greta asked him if there was anything in the bill he liked…..

Answer: “No.”

Video:Obama Tells Ohio Audience “Premiums Will Decrease 3000% Under ObamaCare”…

…”So you should get a raise when health care is passed”.

Yeah, he actually said that.  And the audience applauded.

The comment comes 1:15 minutes into the clip:

That sounds  kinda gaffetastic and wee -weed up. Obama’s been to all 57 states trying to pass this health care bill, including the one that lost 10,000 corpsemen in a tornado, so maybe he’s tired?

This was Ed Morrissey’s Obamateurism of the day, Monday, and he snagged it from Greg Hengler at Townhall.

***

Michelle Malkin noticed way back in May of 2008, Obama’s propensity to commit gaffes:

Barack Obama — promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah — is a walking, talking gaffe machine. How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford?

Well, sadly, almost two years later,  we find that not much has changed. And now we find the media studiously avoiding any vetting of his health care statistics and sob stories. It has been left to bloggers to do the dirty work, and they are the ones who take the heat from liberal media.

See Michelle’s, Doing the health care anecdote-vetting the Left won’t do for the details.

The SlaughterHouse Rule: Just Try It, Dems

We’re not talking “Waterloo” if they try this…we’re not talking “Krakatoa”, we’re talking nuclear Armageddon.

UPDATE:

KJL at The Corner reports:

House Republicans are about to announce a plan to force a vote on a resolution that would require the Senate health-care bill to be subject to a true roll-call vote. Republican leadership believe that if the House were to pass the resolution, it would mean the death of Speaker Pelosi’s Slaughter plan.

You can read the resolution at The Corner

Krauthammer’s take, via the Corner:

…members of the House look at this as so toxic, so noxious themselves, they don’t want to have their name on it. They don’t want to make history. … They don’t even want to have an up-or-down vote on the bill [that enacts Obamacare]. …

You have an issue of democratic decency: It is rare enough, unusual enough, and really indecent enough to change a sixth of the American economy with a bill that has not a single support from Republicans.

But to do it by a procedure which doesn’t even approve of the bill itself is simply staggering.

In ramming through an unpopular 2,700-page health care bill using brute force tactics, Democrats are in danger of passing what amounts to the longest suicide note in history. Their own pollsters are telling them the public has rebelled against their tactics. So their response is to press their foot down even harder on the gas pedal. We’ll see how that works out for them.

Video: Stupak As Braveheart Holds The Line

I was looking for a video of Stupak’s appearance on Greta Van Susteren, and came upon this:

Yowsa, that is pretty hardcore for Catholic Vote!

Stand With Stupak website, here.

Incidentally:

Statement by Cardinal Francis George, OMI

The Cost is too High; the Loss is too Great

The Catholic Bishops of the United States have long and consistently advocated for the reform of the American health care system. Their experience in health care and in Catholic parishes has acquainted them with the anguish of mothers who are unable to afford prenatal care, of families unable to ensure quality care for their children, and of those who cannot obtain insurance because of preexisting conditions.

Throughout the discussion on health care over the last year, the bishops have advocated a bipartisan approach to solving our national health care needs. They have urged that all who are sick, injured or in need receive necessary and appropriate medical assistance, and that no one be deliberately killed through an expansion of federal funding of abortion itself or of insurance plans that cover abortion. These are the provisions of the long standing Hyde amendment, passed annually in every federal bill appropriating funds for health care; and surveys show that this legislation reflects the will of the majority of our fellow citizens. The American people and the Catholic bishops have been promised that, in any final bill, no federal funds would  used for abortion and that the legal status quo would be respected.

You can read the whole statement from the Bishops at The Corner.

If You Can’t Make It to Washington Tomorrow…

Tim Phillips from Americans For Prosperity has some other ideas for you to let your voice be heard:

1.  Go to Honkno.com CLICK HERE and sign up to take part in the ”Honk Against the Health Care Takeover” event at 12 Noon your time tomorrow.  It’s simple and fun.  You go to the website, punch in your zip code and up pops the closest congressional district offices to you.  You can print off a “Honking Against the Health Care Takeover” sign for your car.  Then, with this sign in your car or truck go to your congressional district offices and let them hear your horns and see your protest.  If you want to be a “car caravan” leader, you can punch in where you’ll be at 11:30am and ask fellow grassroots activists to join you!

2.  Make sure that you and every single person you know directly contacts Congress by calling, emailing and visiting your congressional district office.  Make sure to forward this email, and
click HERE to contact your legislator now.

On our national tele-town hall call with Congressman Mike Pence last week, a lady from Indiana asked if it’s worth calling your congressman if you know he’s already a solid YES or a solid NO.  The answer: yes, it’s still crucial to call and email and visit them. If they are a solid YES, they need to continue feeling the heat because it impacts their resolve and shows just how unpopular this bill – and their position – is with folks back home.  If they are a solid NO, they need to be thanked and encouraged. And, the members of Congress talk to each other.  They compare notes and discuss what’s happening back home.

3.  Americans for Prosperity is taking part in a rally in Washington, D.C. tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.  For more information or to let us know you’re coming, CLICK HERE.

I’m so inspired by the level of sacrifice from people like you across this nation.  In Houston, Texas last Wednesday night I stayed in the home of a couple who attended grassroots meetings two nights in a row to keep up the pressure on Congress. They’ve got real day jobs and a family, but they’re literally spending hours each day fighting the fight – not to mention putting up with me in one of their spare bedrooms!

In Wisconsin this past Saturday, I looked out over a sea of more than 2,000 grassroots activists who showed up at our “Defending the American Dream” summit where health care was the focal point.  They’re still in the fight.  In Tucson earlier in the week, a 71-years-young tea party lady told me that “I’m not tired … I’m just getting started, and I’ve got more energy than my grandkids!”

The Left momentarily holds the levers of political power in Washington, but the American people are with us!

We’ve identified 21 key members of Congress and we’re going all out to impact these Democrats who hold the key to victory. All voted YES on the first House health care vote last year, but the political environment is dramatically different now.  We believe we need to flip at least 8 of these members to win.

We’re running targeted radio and television ads in these districts. CLICK here to hear a radio ad and CLICK here to see the TV ad.

In these target districts, a massive telemarketing blitz is also underway using recorded message calls, live calls from our activists and tele-town hall meetings – all mentioning the targeted members’ names and urging a contact to the member.

And, we’re using email, social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube, internet banner advertising and good old word-of-mouth to drive a massive number of one-on-one contacts to the congressional offices from their constituents. CLICK here to see a sample banner ad on Drudge.

The Left, led as usual by their public employee unions, is mounting a similar effort, but I can tell you from being in many of these districts that the energy is on our side.

There’s been much talk about “reconciliation” but candidly, it’s overrated and perhaps even a red herring. Here’s why. The president will sign the original Senate bill, HR3590, into law immediately following House passage. That means BEFORE the Senate takes up reconciliation. A ruling last week from the Senate parliamentarian requires that to be the sequence. So by the time the Senate is debating reconciliation, they will be tweaking a disastrous bill that is already law.

So when you hear the president and others say the Senate will “continue to work on improving the bill in reconciliation,” don’t be fooled.

With House passage of the Senate bill, Obama will have 99% of what he wants, whether or not he can get the other 1% through reconciliation. Winning the “reconciliation” battle will certainly not ensure victory. We must win in the House.

Please forgive this long email, but you’re the reason we’re able to fight this fight for our health care freedoms and I wanted to report to you on what we’re doing to win.

One last thing. While I was in Houston last week I saw a scruffy-looking young man wearing a
t-shirt that caught my eye and he was one of our activists.  It read: “If it is to be … It is up to me.”

That sums up the attitude I’m seeing from thousands of Americans who are waging an all-out effort for their freedoms.
