As the nation remembers the Oklahoma City bombing on its 15th anniversary, the left seizes the opportunity to link Timothy McVeigh to conservative protesters, today. This is a tactic, Bill Clinton had some success with.
John from Powerline reports:
Bill Clinton appeared at a symposium on the bombing sponsored by a left-wing think tank and linked the mad bomber to today’s opponents of the Democrats’ radical agenda.
Just before the symposium, in an interview with the New York Times, Clinton elaborated on the theme:
“There can be real consequences when what you say animates people who do things you would never do,” Mr. Clinton said in an interview, saying that Timothy McVeigh, who carried out the Oklahoma City bombing, and those who assisted him, “were profoundly alienated, disconnected people who bought into this militant antigovernment line.” …
Rush Limbaugh is having none of it, and reminds listeners what it was that inspired Timothy McVeigh to commit his terrorist act…hint: it wasn’t talk radio:

deb, I think both sides have legitimate points on this issue. Yes, militias and the right wing media are catalysts for domestic terrorism, but the invasion of Waco did kill innocent children and that’s a travesty. I couldn’t listen to the whole vid, but I think I got the gist. Clinton bad, David Koresh good. Or did I miss his point?
April, 19, 2010 at 1:05 pm
Yes, militias and the right wing media are catalysts for domestic terrorism
Name the the domestic terrorism caused by the right wing media.
You think Rush argues that David Koresh was good?
Yes, you missed the point.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:25 pm
nicedeb, in my state of Washington, two individuals have now been arrested for threatening Senator Patty Murray. One, Charles A. Wilson of Selah, WA, threatened her and also said he hopes someone kills the President. I believe he used “talking points” often spouted from Glenn Beck on the many occasions he called the Senator’s office.
You may not consider this terrorism. But as I point out on a recent blogpost, there was an IED found at the federal building in Spokane on March 28. The investigators are mum. They didn’t even inform the public or neighboring business owners until a week later.
It could be the work of a fringe Glenn Beck fanclub. I dunno.
As for Rush thinking Koresh was good. I was only kidding. I’ll listen to the rest, but as I said, he has a valid point. What they did down in Waco was stupid and the consequences were considerable. sigh.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:31 pm
I believe he used “talking points” often spouted from Glenn Beck on the many occasions he called the Senator’s office.
As discussed before, anybody can spout things they’ve heard and mix them in with their own brand of wackiness. The question is: is their position embraced by the mainstream, or is it rejected? The Tea Party in Washington has clearly and loudly rejected it.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:43 pm
For example, just yesterday Erik Pidrman was arrested for threatening to kill Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL). He’s a Hillary Clinton donor.
How does that reflect on Hillary? It doesn’t.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:44 pm
geoff, It only takes one wacko to bring down a federal building. I’m not saying we should censor Glenn Beck, Rush or anyone. But they need to understand, and I’m sure they do, the responsibility they own for what others may do with the information and analysis they hear from the extreme news media.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Well, if Pidrman was micmicking Keith Oblermann with his threats, I’d say the same about Keith.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:49 pm
and being a donor doesn’t mean squat. So what? It does not reflect on Hillary one bit.
I know of some people who snapped when Obama stole the nomination from Hillary. P.U.M.A.s They could still be repressing anger. They don’t want to threaten the President and perhaps any target will do. I dunno,.
April, 19, 2010 at 1:57 pm
And I’m guessing that Eric Pidrman will be shown to be a mental case, much like Norman LeBoon. I read this from the TPM blog regarding LeBoon’s many videos that he made with threats in them. (I blogged on Norman as he was a fellow cnn ireporter.) Note that LeBoon was an Obama donor, yet he threatens the President :
“In one video he addresses President Obama, Vice President Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid by name and says, “Your punishment is coming, the swine, it will be severe, and you will beg for mercy to your god, it will be severe, you will know god’s swine, god has warned you.” (Some conservatives are already chortling over the fact that Leboon contributed to Obama’s 2008 campaign, though it’s not clear what that’s supposed to signify.)”
April, 19, 2010 at 2:05 pm
And I’m guessing that Eric Pidrman will be shown to be a mental case
But you don’t think that’s the case with Charles Wilson?
April, 19, 2010 at 2:23 pm
Honestly, geoff, I do think that is the case. I think the guy is mentally ill. But that’s part of the point. GB and Rush can influence a sick mind that can’t distinguish between real news and sensationalized news.
April, 19, 2010 at 2:41 pm
GB and Rush can influence a sick mind that can’t distinguish between real news and sensationalized news.
Assuming that there is a distinction between those two things, can you tell me who gets to make it?
April, 19, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Hmmm…Imperial Con, good q. And the answer is:
ME. haha
I believe that assumption (see above) goes without saying. Why? Do you think that real news and sensationalized news are the same? I don’t follow…
Personally, any news that I find reactionary, should be labeled as so. But that is just me.
April, 19, 2010 at 5:56 pm
If a single Liberal/Dem had called out Senator Obama when he literally instructed his supporters to “argue with and get in their neighbors’ face”, I might give some credence to Dems/Liberals or anyone calling for careful speech by Republicans/Conservatives lest they incite some nutcase to violence. Egad! I do literally hate the two-faced pontificating of these jerks.
April, 19, 2010 at 6:21 pm
You’re preaching to the choir, bro. I made this video, yesterday:
What’s the difference between Obama’s rhetoric, and Rush’s or Beck’s?
#1 They are not the leader of the free world, with the bully pulpit that comes with it. He is the President of all of us, Republicans and Democrats alike. Rush and Glenn Beck don’t pretend to be anything but partisan conservatives.
#2 Glenn Beck and Rush don’t instruct their listeners to do anything other than *very rarely*, call their congressmen or give to their pet charitable causes. Beck has made a point to tell his listeners not to do anything rash, and to protest *peacefully*. Obama, on the other hand tells his followers to “get in our face”, and “punch back twice as hard” (to the SEIU at the town halls, last summer). He also said during the campaign, that line about Chicago rules – “they bring a knife, we’ll bring a gun…”
#3 Democratic constituents, for all their “peaceful” pretensions are much more prone to violence. The far left, the anarchists, the eco groups, the anti-war groups that deface public property….Most felons are Democrats, and that’s a fact. That’s why Democrats are always trying to change the law to allow them to vote.
Obama is playing with fire, and he knows it.
April, 19, 2010 at 6:32 pm
I have to say that it is so revealing to see Asrai’s posted video and then look at your’s deb. Sorry, but yours shows how his words are taken out of context. tsk. tsk…
And you wonder why people are so misinformed?
President Obama was speaking euphemistically peeps! Wake up!!!!
April, 19, 2010 at 6:36 pm
The candidate Obama gave an inspiring speech. What of his speech is so bad? Do you really think he meant to “get in their face”??? I don’t. He was telling people to spread the truth. He didn’t blame anyone for the misconceptions. But we all know where they came from.
April, 19, 2010 at 6:38 pm
Okay, perhaps “euphemism” is not the correct word. What is the opposite of “euphemism”? That is what he used.
“A euphemism is a substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the receiver,[1] or to make it less troublesome for the speaker, as in the case of doublespeak. The deployment of euphemisms is a central aspect within the public application of political correctness.”
April, 19, 2010 at 7:02 pm
He told his followers to get in peoples faces and guess what? They did. That’s how the puma phenomenon was born.
April, 19, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Rosehips re: President Obama was speaking euphemistically peeps! Wake up!!!!
Will you defend Conservative speakers/pundits (OMG Sarah Palin says to KILL them! the Crosshairs proves it!) by telling Dems/Liberals to ‘wake up!!! and quit salivating over ‘euphemisms”?
April, 19, 2010 at 7:45 pm
Asrai, Absolutely!
I try not to pay too much mind to all the ravings of the left. I am not a Sarah slammer. I like her. She just isn’t my candidate. That revered position goes to someone much more deserving, [edited].
April, 19, 2010 at 7:47 pm
Dems/Liberals…. Now hear this. WAKE UP! Stop slamming euphemisms and start loving your adversaries, ya clowns!
I think love is the only answer, anymore.
April, 19, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Nice Deb, There comes a point where arguing with a tiresome troll is just a waste of time and we have reached it. I suggest you remove the troll.
April, 19, 2010 at 8:44 pm
7Heavens, are you deb’s husband? If you are, I guess I am out of here, eh?
deb already stated that I am not a “proper” troll. She is right. In fact, I am not a troll at all! I am a legitimate citizen journalist who likes to have fun sometimes but raises legitimate issues while doing it! Talk about tiresome seven! What’s the matter, did you have a hard day at the office?
April, 19, 2010 at 8:46 pm
“citizen journalist” rosehips: you are an asshole I am not going to waste any more of my time and attention upon, the floor is yours go ahead and waste your own.
April, 19, 2010 at 8:48 pm
I guess that answers my question. Sorry about your day 7Heavens. And sorry if I pissed you off.
I have a sick sense of what is fun, I know.
April, 19, 2010 at 8:57 pm
What’s the difference between Obama’s rhetoric, and Rush’s or Beck’s?
Glenn and Rush pay for their airtime, and broadcasters know that it will be an exercise in capitalism.
Lord Zero demands his, and the broadcasters lose money, knowing it is an exercise of control.
April, 19, 2010 at 9:10 pm
7Heavens, rosehips is all right. We agree on nothing, but she’s civil, and that’s all we require here.
Here’s an example of an Obama supporter literally getting in an old woman’s face, per Obama’s orders:
April, 19, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Actually I was wrong and I am sorry for calling you an asshole before I read your blog. Deb is right, you’re not a “proper troll”. I just think all the quibbling is a bit pointless. I understand your point and everyone else’s, and actually agree with more than you might think. But we need to be powerful in our message, God knows the situation calls for it. And to be powerful we must be clear and simple and strong. Every time I read nuanced thinking on a blog, though I might even agree with it, it diminishes the clarity of our overall point and raises red flags of Liberal Trolls trying to cloud the message like trial lawyers trying to obfuscate the truth. ACE is a better place for nuance because they can get as nuanced as you please, but will also get as combatitive, downright dirty and disgusting in a flash. (Sura 2:29)
April, 19, 2010 at 9:48 pm
Thanks deb, and apology accepted 7Heavens. I don’t get easily offended and I thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
April, 19, 2010 at 11:10 pm
Wow. What a day we’ve had. Thanks, Deb, for this post. Absorbed the whole enchilada. This stuff is getting intense & exhausting.
