• Haley Barbour
• Ron Paul
• Michael Steele

Live streaming of the speeches, starting at 12:00 cst, here.

Once again, I’m off to the VIP brunch, will be back for a full day of blogging in a bit.

See R.S. McCain for video of Breitbart talking to Dave Weigel after his speech, yesterday. The left is still trying to question the authenticity of the ACORN sting videos based on what James O’Keefe was or wasn’t wearing,  alleging that the tapes were “heavily edited”. Breitbart says that he would be willing to debate Maddow, or any other media detractor while on mescaline.

The first headliner of the day was Rick Santorum, introduced by Senator David Vitter:

“Conservatism didn’t fail America; conservatives failed conservatism”

Santorum says “Families are the basic unit of society, not government” and that Barack Obama wants to change what we want to be, and that’s why Americans are jumping out of their seats, and are willing to fight for America.

He’s taking questions from the crowd, and the first one was a doozy. Why did he endorse Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in that 2004 PA Senate race?  That was heart breaker. He mentioned that slight lead that the Republicans held in the Senate, and the need to hold onto that. He obviously saw Specter as the more electable candidate in PA at that time.

House Republicans will not rest until we have repealed that Government health care plan LOCK STOCK AND BARREL!

More quotable quotes from Pence’s speech:

“Republicans are back in the fight and they’re back in the fight on the RIGHT!”

“I’m Christian, a conservative and a Republican. In that order.”

“Your enthusiasm for liberty and limited gov’t is catching on – even Republicans in Congress are catching on.”

“We will take this country back in 2010 and 2012, so help us God.”-

“America stands with Israel.”

See the Right Scoop for video.

Governor of Mississippi, Haley Barbour next up:

After saying  a few words about Katrina,  Barber quips that  we’re now dealing with a man-made disaster.

One thing matters to us for the next 6 months, and that is winning the 2010 elections. Do. not. take. your eyes off the ball.

“You can’t spend yourself rich. The American people know this”.

“The thought of cutting govt spending in Washington sends chills up their spines. ..Those that *have* spines”

“How do we win in 2010? We stick together…”

“I believe the right American energy policy is more American energy”

Tea party movement has been great partners with the Republican party…

Herman Cain:

Maybe some people in Washington should READ the Declaration of Independence…some people in Washington should READ the Constitution!

The three things he says we need to do:

Stay connected – they are trying to divide us and we need to stay connected in order to win…

Stay informed – Stay informed or you may end up drinking some liberal koolaid by mistake!

Quotes Thomas Jefferson: When the American people have the right information…they make the right decisions.

Stay inspired - they want you to believe that we can’t take back control of Congress.

Great speech…The other McCain has the video.

Ron Paul (Eh):

“There’s a revolution on college campuses….and they’re not looking for handouts, they’re looking for freedom”

“socialism will make you equally poor”

“Obama isn’t a socialist. He’s a CORPORATIST.”

Michael Steele closed the day:

Steele says that he takes responsibility for the mistakes he’s made.( Big applause)..

“They are looking for those distractions, and Lord knows I’ve provided a few.”

I’ll tell you how we get our country back: Fire Nancy Pelosi..

I’ll tell you how to get rid of the government health care system they just forced on us, ” Replace Harry Reid!”

“You all Twitter don’t you? If you don’t tweet, learn how. If you don’t know how, call me.”

“We’ve gotta drain the koolaid from their veins”

Friday’s Retirepolooza

How many more people are gonna leak that they’re retiring, today?

So far, we have Bart Stupak, whom Slublog refused to give the flaming skull treatment to. You’ll have to click to see what he merits. Then there’s Justice Stevens, who does get the flaming skull, but I think we all knew this was coming. Drew at AoSHQ wonders: Does Obama go with a stealth lib like Sotomayor, or go for broke with a lefty dream nominee? Well if the past six months are any indication, I say he goes for broke. Get ready to be outrageously outraged.

Here’s a pleasant surprise via Laura Ingraham onTwitter…still in the rumor stage:

Sources tell me Bawney Fwank won’t run for re-election. Wants to work on the board of a bank and make $ before retirement.

Good news for us if true, baaaad news for the bank…

Wouldn’t this be a breath of fresh air for Massachusetts?

Heh, Doug Ross’s response to The Stupak news, right here.

R..S. McCain took the opportunity to interview former Governor of NM,  Gary Johnson, and other “popular, super cool guys” at SRLC;  his report, here.

Ed Morrissey is also here, today: SRLC: Live interview post

Livestreaming of the speeches, starting at noon cst, here.

The word is, Sarah Palin’s speech will happen at the same time as Obama’s Rose Garden speech, and will be pre-empted on cable. Watch on live stream.

And ….here she is!

“Obama Doctrine” is “Coddling Enemies” While “Alienating Our Allies”.

“They say, ‘Yes you can.’ We stand up and say, ‘Oh no you don’t.’”

“Shoot, look at Texas. Oh, shoot, I said shoot.”

She’s spending most of her time on energy issues…her area of expertise…and she’s letting Obama and the environmental wackos have it with both barrels.

She thinks Obama is trying to get support for Cap and Tax in Congress…pretending to compromise, but his idea of compromise is more of the status quo.

Liveblogging SRLC

Ms. Cheney was introduced by the great and gracious Mary Matalin this evening at the Southern Republican Leader Conference in New Orleans:

Liz Cheney speaking now, live streaming, here.

She’s talking forcefully about what she calls  the three prongs of the Obama Foreign Policy: Apologize, abandon and appease. This woman is fierce.

An early look at her speech, here.

Breaking? Cheney announces that Bibi Netanyahu will not be attending Obama’s nuke summit next week.

Zinger: “This administration is confused about who the enemy is!”

Message to Eric Holder: “The CIA officers who  interrogated terrorists to keep us safe after 9/11 are not criminals – they’re American patriots. They deserved to be thanked and honored for protecting this nation”.

Paraphrasing Krauthammer:”The Obama administration is putting us in a path to decline.”

The Obama administration is used to deference – from their followers, and the media (sometimes those two things are the same thing).

JC Watts is up now. Something tells me he’s had a change of heart since his flirtation with Obamunism in 2008.

daveweigel on Twitter: J.C. Watts’s speech is notably free of Obama-bashing — all positivity about the GOP agenda.

Roger that!

JC Watts: We don’t need more taxes. We need more taxpayers. ..The problem isn’t we tax too much. It’s that we spend too much.

Newt up: “When you’re speaking from the heart – you don’t need a teleprompter”. (wild applause)…

He says he began to realize after watching Obama for a year, that  what we have  in the Obama administration is a combination of the corruption of  Springfield, IL, and the radicalism of Alinsky.

“The more Obama talks, the less people believe him”…

“Stage one of the end of Obamunism after winning this Fall is to refuse to fund his initiatives….” (wild applause)…

After 2012, “We will repeal every. radical. bill. passed by this congress”. (wild applause).

We need to make plain to the American people that this is not an average fight between two groups of people who share the same goals and values…we have to make this a choice about the nature of America. He says we’re up against a “Secular Socialist Machine”.

Plane Blogging

I thought I’d try out the new iPad while en route to N’Awlens (did I pronounce that right?) for the SRLC. Pretty nifty, I must say…perfect for the plane, but a little quirky. I found out I have to be in HTML mode to edit the blog. I’m looking forward to the conference, and seeing a lot of the same faces from CPAC. well, they’ve put up the fasten seatbelt sign for the descent into Dallas/FortWorth, so I have to cut this short. I’ll have more about SRLC later today, with lots of pictures, hopefully.

Do Not Mess With Lt. Colonel Allen West

Democrats in Broward County are apparently cowering in fear over the supposedly inflammatory language used by Lt. Col. Allen West to his  supporters. They’re afraid he’s encouraging the  “violent fringe”  to come after them.

At a tea party gathering in Jupiter on Monday night, Republican congressional hopeful Allen West slammed U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, for not holding an in-person town hall meeting to discuss his vote for the sweeping health care overhaul bill.

West told activists they need to “make the fellow scared to come out of his house. That’s the only way that you’re going to win. That’s the only way you’re going to get these people’s attention. You’ve got to put pressure on them and make them understand that you’ve got to come back and live the laws that you establish. Don’t let them be a ruling class elite. You’ve got to let them know that the clock’s ticking.”

Broward County Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar replied with a lengthy statement today accusing West of stoking the “violent fringe that threatens our leaders.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is circulating Ceasar’s statement as well.

Well,  Lt. Col. West is not backing down… He’s now responded to Mitch Ceasar and the DCCC.

Via Atlas Shrugs:

George Bennett, staff writer for The Palm Beach Post, scribbled this to West: “Any reaction to these accusations from Broward County Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar?”

Here is West’s response:

Yes George, here is my response. The history of the Democratic party is steeped in intimidation. It was the Democratic Party that started the KKK to enforce Jim Crow segregation laws. It was the Democratic party that instituted lynching and other means of violence to preclude blacks from enjoying the Constitutional rights the Republican party established in the 13-15th Amendments and the early Civil Rights Legislation during the Reconstruction Era through the 1960s.
It is the Democratic party which today promotes the intimidation tactics of ACORN, SEIU, Code Pink, Anarchist groups, and the New Black Panther Party. Mitch Ceasar is typical of liberal Democrats in seeking to create a smoking mirror when nothing exists. Caesar is a true representative of the politics of hypocrisy that infests the Democrat party.
The liberals of Broward County are evidencing their fear of the American people, and our campaign, and OUR voices will not be silenced.
If Nancy Pelosi’s puppet Congressman Ron Klein will not face his constituents, then yes, he should remain in his gated community home…..and not continue with the charade of being a Representative of the people of Congressional District 22. This is not stoking any violent fringe, it is simply stating the fact that Congressman Ron Klein is a liberal Democrat coward. And Mitch Caesar lives in a world of delusion…perhaps he should focus on the culture of corruption that is the Broward Democrat Party, not this Congressional race.
George, tell Mitch to stop playing these petulant, immature games of petty character assassination politics, another Democrat trait, trying to fight for a weak Congressman. Let Klein stand on his own, I am. And yes, the clock is ticking, because on 2 November Ron Klein will indeed be former Congressman Ron Klein.
George, feel free to print this entire response as it is going out all across the blog world.
Steadfast and Loyal, LTC(R) Allen B West…..Candidate, US Congress Florida District 22
Love it!

Racial Slurs Hurled By AT Tea Partiers

Unfortunately these particular types of slurs are tacitly approved of by the left:

They’ve been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement—and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation’s first black president.

“I’ve been told I hate myself. I’ve been called an Uncle Tom. I’ve been told I’m a spook at the door,” said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

“Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks,” he said.

Johnson and other black conservatives say they were drawn to the tea party movement because of what they consider its commonsense fiscal values of controlled spending, less taxes and smaller government. The fact that they’re black—or that most tea partyers are white—should have nothing to do with it, they say.

Read the whole thing…I never thought I’d say this, but kudos to the AP for running a story that goes so violently against the media narrative.

Video: The Giuliani/Huffington Slugfest On Morning Joe

Everybody’s talking about this segment from Morning Joe, this morning. Mediaite calls it “crack for the political junkie”, RS McCain wonders why Arianna is defending Charlie Crist (pssst: because he’s the weaker Republican candidate), Business Insider called it, “Today’s media brawl”, and Noel Sheppard at Newsbusters said Rudy Giuliani and Joe Scarborough humiliated Arianna Huffington.

Oh My: Obama Couldn’t Name Any White Sox Players When Asked

After claiming to be a “Southside kid”, Obama failed to name even a single player from the White Sox. Of course, he grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, so American baseball was probably barely on his radar screen while he was growing up:

Obama to Dibble on why he wore a White Sox fan to throw out the first pitch in Washington: “I’m a Southside kid, I gotta make sure (White Sox owner) Jerry Reinsdorf doesn’t get to angry with me.

Dibble: “Having played with the White Sox for a short time, I know how the Cubs fans and White Sox fans go back and forth. Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?

Obama: “You know uh ….. I … I thought that … uh …. you know … the truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh … I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh …. I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A’s fan.

Obvious follow up question: “Oh….so who were your favorite Oakland A’s players growing up?”  But Dibble probably figured sports fans had cringed enough, already.

One of the commenters at this sports site, quipped, “Holy crap, he couldn’t even pull shoeless joe out of his ass?”

Obama also continued his habit of mispronouncing Comiskey Park. At least he didn’t say Cominskey Field, this time.

In case you’re wondering why I’m still sniping about Obama’s baseball faux pas, which is frankly pretty petty of me in light of the fact that there are much more important things to talk about….well,  just take look at these recent depressing headlines:

Jennifer Rubin: Obama’s Incomprehensible Nuclear Posture Review

Gabe at AoSHQ: Obama Was Not Briefed on Nuclear-Defense Plans Until “Some Months” In Office

Robert Costa at the Corner: Giuliani: An ‘Inept’ President’s ‘Left-Wing Dream’

The American Thinker: Obama’s List

Michelle Malkin: S.F.’s housing mob and the death of property rights

What can I say? I’ve got a Spring cold, and I’m just not in the mood to deal with Obama and his disastrous “left wing-dreams” today.

Linked by Michelle Malkin in Buzzworthy, thanks!

BTW: Michelle also couldn’t resist being a little petty: Can you imagine if Sarah Palin said “Cominskey Park” and flubbed softball White Sox question?

Harry Reid Kicks Off Campaign Tour In Searchlight To A Crowd of Approximately 100

Getty Images

The AP generously reported that Reid kicked off his campaign tour to “more than 100 cheering friends and supporters”.

“You can’t escape who you are. My roots are here and no one can take that away from me,” Reid told a crowd of more than 100 cheering friends and supporters inside the Searchlight Nugget casino, about 60 miles south of Las Vegas.

Nevada’s Democratic senator spoke at the start of a three-day campaign bus tour through the state he has represented since 1986. Reid calls it his “Driving Nevada Forward” tour and says he plans to discuss issues including jobs, energy and health care.

His “smart grid” reference was to a $138 million federal stimulus grant Nevada’s main electric utility received in October to help create a network of two-way meters that exchange real-time information between the company and customers about the cost and use of energy.

Reid dismissed Republican criticisms that the health care reform law he helped push through the Senate amounts to the federal takeover of health care. Reid said he expects the measure will reduce the national debt by $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years.

Obamacare is going to reduce the debt by 1.3 trillion? Woohoo! Yayyyyy!

Seriously.

Dingy also took the occasion to mock Sarah Palin, although Allahpundit reports that his jibes weren’t as nasty as they usually are.

…maybe, like most people who are facing doom, he’s mellowing a bit as the end approaches.

Video here.

(I love that Greta’s watching Sarah’s back).

10,000+ teapartiers rallied in Searchlight on March 27th for the Teaparty Express’s “Showdown in Searchlight”. A crowd of 100 supporters show up for Harry Reid’s kickoff rally in his hometown.

Draw your own conclusions.

Video: Obama’s First Pitch At Nationals Game “High and Wide”

Believe it or not, it’s even worse than last year’s effort, which is sad, because as Mary Katherine Ham reports, he’s been training in preparation for this:

He’s also been practicing for his first ceremonial pitch at the Nationals’ home opener today:

Spokesman Robert Gibbs says Obama has hurling pitches at personal assistant Reggie Love and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson, as he prepared with workouts in the White House Rose garden. Obama threw out the first pitch at last year’s All-Star game in St. Louis, wearing a White Sox jacket, a nod to his hometown Chicago team. Gibbs wouldn’t comment on Obama’s choice for a jacket to wear at Monday afternoon’s game.

Well, here it is:

You know, there’s no law that says the President must throw out the first pitch of the season. Gad.

Here’s Obama’s first bloop pitch of the All Star Game, last year (thanks Media Matters!) which Joe Scarborough thoroughly mocked on his show, calling it, “a bit dainty”:

And here’s the Bush pitch from October 2001, which is the one Scarborough wanted viewers to see:

UPDATE:

I recommend this video, which includes the build up to the actual pitch Bush threw at the World Series in 2001:

Michael Barone: Under Obama, Reducing Choices for the Future

Last summer, I wrote a column framed as a letter to a young Obama voter. It concluded: “You want policies that will enable you to choose your future. Obama backs policies that would let centralized authorities choose much of your future for you. Is this the hope and change you want?”

It seems that some young Obama voters have decided it isn’t. The Pew Research Center’s poll of the millennial generation, which voted 66 percent to 32 percent for Obama in 2008, found that they identify with Democrats over Republicans by only a 54 to 40 percent margin this year.

Perhaps they are coming to realize that the burdens the Obama policies are placing on the private sector economy are reducing their choices for the future.

April’s Fool: NYT Picks Up Fake Story Meant to Ensnare Political Bloggers

Liberty Pundits got a kick out of this:

Gawker’s got a post, which also covers another false story the NYT ran with – but this blog one is just so rich.  Let’s go to the source.

New York Personal Injury Attorney Blog.comEric Turkewitz wrote in this blog that he had been appointed “official White House law blogger“:

Since word is already dribbling out among my friends, I thought I should let you know here: I’m closing down this blog in the next few weeks to start up a new one at the White House as their official law blogger. I’ll have the opportunity to both expand the scope of my writing and serve my country at the same time. As blogging gigs go, it doesn’t get any better than that.

It’s a good ruse complete with charts and stories.  So the NYT gets wind of it.  Their “fact-checking” department calls both the lawyer and the White House.  Lawyer specifically obfuscates; he confirms NOTHING.  The WH? No one home.   The story has no confirmation whatsoever on any level.

So what does the NYT do? They run the story, of course.

Yes – this is the same newspaper that spiked a story that tied ACORN corruption to the Obama campaign in the Fall of ’08, allegedly because of  “lack of corroboration”, although NYT reporter, Stephanie Strom told ACORN whistle-blower Anita Moncrief that the editors wanted her to kill the story because “it was a game changer.”’

The official White House blogger story was no game changer though, so why bother with inconvenient fact checking?

The best part of the story according to Liberty Pundits:

And as if it couldn’t get better.  The lawyer turns out to be smug prick that learned something he probably didn’t want to know:

The basic idea was this: A bunch of law bloggers would try to punk the political bloggers, whose reputation is to grab any old rumor and run with it. Fact checking hasn’t always been the strong suit of this community.

But the political bloggers, to their collective credit, didn’t bite, despite wide dissemination of the story. Not on the right or the left. Instead it was the vaunted New York Times that ran with the story without bothering to check its facts. The Times, of course, had no sense of humor about it when the angry phone call came to me a couple of hours later.

So, he tried to punk us and instead found out that what we’ve been saying about the NYT has been true all along.

Ha.
