The “Scoop” director said it would be a cool idea for President Barack Obama to be dictator for for a few years.
Why?
So he could get things done without all the hassle of opposing views getting in the way.
In an interview published by Spanish language newspaper La Vanguardia (that we translated), Allen says “I am pleased with Obama. I think he’s brilliant. The Republican Party should get out of his way and stop trying to hurt him.”
But wait – there’s more!
The director said “it would be good…if he could be a dictator for a few years because he could do a lot of good things quickly.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Lefties are totalitarians at heart.
During a pooled press event in the Oval Office, President Obama was asked if he would take a couple questions.
“You’re certainly free to ask the question,” Obama told the reporters in the room. “I won’t be answering, I’m not doing a press conference today, but we’ll be seeing you in the course of the week.”
He was talking about the “press availability” he will most likely have after his meeting with the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, which the CNN reporter notes ‘are known as “two and two’s” referring to the number of questions each country’s group of reporters will be allowed to ask’.
In other words, Insufficient, Mr President!
The most transparent President in history hasn’t held a press conference since last July. It’s almost like he doesn’t wantbother, unless there’s something big to sell, and when the propaganda starts to wear thin, he withdraws.
The law, the Daniel Pearl Freedom of Press Act, expands efforts to identify countries where press freedom is being violated. The law is named after Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter who was beheaded by militants in Pakistan in 2002.
The law expands an annual report on human rights practices to include information about media treatment, and identify countries where the media is being repressed.
Without having read the thing, it sounds good to me….unless there’s some Orwellian doublespeak involved, which wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
Hat tip:Hot Air Headlines which features a handsdown threadwinning comment from AUINSC :
This from a guy who warns of the dangers of excessive debt while quadrupling it. Seems perfectly consistent to me. This clown broke my irony meter a long time ago.
I knew in January, that the tea party movement was going to be the main target of the left, this year, leading right up to the election. Their attempts to neuter the movement using race-baiting smears, and the lame ” Coffee Party” imitation, fell flat, so they’ve moved on to plan C: Outright fraud and deceit. But what else do you expect from Dem Socialists?
A new Tea Party group is trying to get on the ballot in Michigan as a third party, and the effort is being pushed byProgressive Campaigns Inc, and funded by Soros, and the Michigan Democratic Party.
At what point will honest Democrats, observing how their party operates, finally recoil in horror and shame. Are there any honest Democrats, left?
This isn’t even AstroTurf. It is outright political fraud. Fearful of the tea party movement in Michigan (which Democrats and Republicans alike should be), the Democrats and/or their special interest groups have begun the process of officially hijacking the movement. Like in Nevada, they will likely launch their own ‘tea party’ candidate that is anything but. Unfortunately for the Democrats, 1) the tea party is more informed than they give us credit for; and 2) this news is breaking at the very conception of this slimy political move. The news was broken last night by Chetley Zarko on his website Outside Lansing: Zarko Research Exclusive: Dem Dirty Trick on Fake Tea Party Petition Revealed
Zarko Research has learned that a nefarious unknown group calling itself “The Tea Party” at PO Box 23 in Richville, MI 48757 (near Flint) is circulating a petition on a paid basis, at roughly $1 per signature to the circulator. The group is so new that the Secretary of State has nothing on file as of this moment.
The petition was mailed to known paid circulators in the metro Detroit area earlier this week and based on conclusions of proprietary knowledge to Zarko Research, the petition is being operated by a liberal-leaning petition management firm with ties to the Democratic Party. The petition claims to seek access to the ballot for an entirely new party – the “Tea Party”, although when Zarko Research interviewed known organizers of the Tea Party they all knew nothing about it. …
Read the entire post. They’ve got them dead to rights.
What these fraudsters don’t understand is that the tea party movement is made up of a savvy, and alert citizenry…and the days when operations like this one, (which in years past would have operated successfully under the radar), can fool the American people, are ovah.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and a handful of other Washington celebrities will appear on next season’s “Top Chef,” Bravo announced today.
This season’s competition takes place in Washington, and Bravo says “it’s only natural” that DC pols would make an appearance.
The all Star line up includes other Washington “celebrities” like Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), CIA Director Leon Panetta, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.
High ratings must not be a priority over there at Bravo.
We, the United States, have been having human-rights talks with China. Our side is apparently led by Michael Posner, an assistant secretary of state. I will quote from an Associated Press report:
Posner said in addition to talks on freedom of religion and expression, labor rights and rule of law, officials also discussed Chinese complaints about problems with U.S. human rights, which have included crime, poverty, homelessness and racial discrimination.
He said U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record and in fact raised on its [their?] own a new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person’s immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.
I hope I have read that incorrectly, or am interpreting it incorrectly. Did we, the United States, talking to a government that maintains a gulag, that denies people their basic rights, that in all probability harvests organs, apologize for the new immigration law in Arizona? Really, really?
At The Hayride we find an equally appalled and offended Ryan Booth:
We are apologizing to a nation that limits families to one child and forcibly aborts others, a nation that persecutes Christians and other religious believers, a nation that has systematically oppressed another (Tibet) and crushed opposition, a nation where the word “democracy” is blocked from the internet, a nation where prisoners are routinely tortured, a nation which executes more “criminals” than the rest of the world combined and where “tax fraud” is a capital crime — we are apologizing to them for our human rights record, including the pretended horrific abuse of asking people who can’t speak English if they are in the U.S. legally.
But what else would you expect from an advocate of open borders and uncontrolled immigration?
Michael Posner has been the executive director of Human Rights First since its founding in 1978. HRF describes itself as a group that “works in the United States and abroad to create a secure and humane world by advancing justice, human dignity and respect for the rule of law.” In practice, HRF is an open borders group that opposes all government efforts to control illegal immigration and strengthen American national security. Posner received his B.A. in history from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from UC Berkeley; before coming to HRF, he worked for the law firm of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal. He has taught at Yale Law School and is a visiting Lecturer at Columbia Law School.
Posner and HRF have supported an open-border immigration policy since the group’s inception. Posner worked with the late Arthur Helton to gain asylum for 2,000 Haitian immigrants who stormed U.S. shores in 1982 (Helton, incidentally, founded the Forced Migration Project for George Soros‘ Open Society Institute). There was subsequently a dramatic rise in Haitian gang-related crime in the 1980s. Additional self-declared “triumphs” for HRF and Posner include the Torture Victim Protection Act (TVPA), which gave torture victims in other countries the ability to seek remedy in U.S. courts. While this may seem, at first blush, like a worthwhile practice, in fact it is now being used to attack the anti-Communist government in El Salvador for murders committed by underlings. It risks the possibility of U.S. soldiers being put on trial for doing nothing more than making POWs stand for “unreasonable” lengths of time. It allows terrorist states to condemn Israel, which has long allowed its interrogators to keep suspected terrorists awake for long stretches and to shake them, violently, to get information. For these reasons, the U.S. Justice Department resisted the TVPA and similar legislation.
Yes, this is the person Obama has chosen to represent US interests abroad. Any questions?
Apparently yes, someone does have a question. Nordlinger asks:
Do you ever get the idea that our government is a bunch of left-wing undergraduates come to power?
Yes. I think we’re being governed by people who wereradicalized in college(in most cases) and never snapped out of it.
The sooner Republicans and moderates of all stripes understand that, the better. We are not dealing with moderate, reasonable people, here, and unless there’s a massive shift of power in Washington in 2010, and 2012, we can kiss the USA as we know and love her, goodbye.
So now, in addition to the Democrats’ smearing of SB1070, a scurrilous rant proposed for no reason other than to prop up their own power, we are now officially apologizing to the Chicoms for our backward redneck ways? Do I have this right? To effin Red China, we’re sorry we still fret about how we treat human beings? What the hell planet did I wake up on today?
What an idiot! China murdered millions of its citizens who opposed the government’s Communist policies and allows most of its people little or no freedom. We, on the other hand, enforce our immigration laws. No, wait–actually we don’t. That’s why Arizona had to take a shot at it. Oh, by the way, Michael Posner, you clueless moron–China actually does enforce its immigration laws.
Btw, according to the transcript provided by Powerline, Posner’s comments were even worse than the AP reported:
QUESTION: Did the recently passed Arizona immigration law come up? And, if so, did they bring it up or did you bring it up?
ASSISTANT SECRETARY POSNER: We brought it up early and often. It was mentioned in the first session, and as a troubling trend in our society and an indication that we have to deal with issues of discrimination or potential discrimination, and that these are issues very much being debated in our own society.
MORE:
A trip down recent memory lane as the US and our partners in human rights, Red China celebrate 60 years of Communist rule by raising our flags together over the The Ellipse, the public area adjacent to the White House.
Since no reasonable person could object to Arizona’s SB 1070, the left has attacked it with a campaign of lies. Liberals all the way from unhinged Canadian moonbat Steve Nash to the Community Activist in Chief and the scuttling insect that serves as his Attorney General have been spreading outrageous falsehoods with the avid assistance of the establishment media.
Unfortunately, more than a few progressives are learning to fear whatever the president decides to smirk about, and smirking seems to be Barack Obama’s default response to criticism. His monologue at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner had at least one fellow Democrat describing the president’s humor as “a work in progress.” Not content to threaten a popular ‘tween singing group with a missile strike from a Predator drone, the president also offered a zinger for Governor Brewer: “We all know what happens in Arizona when you don’t have I.D.,” he said in his sonorous schoolmarm tone: “Adiós, amigos!”
Laugh riot, that guy. Too bad he did not read the 16-page text of the state legislation he was trying to lampoon. And would it be churlish to observe that President Obama did not peruse the 2,600-page health care reform bill that he supported, either? Somebody in the White House must work hard at writing hermetically-sealed legislative summaries in terms that appeal exclusively to Huffington Post columnists.
One of the more harrowing episodes Mrs. Bush remembers is what happened on 9/11 – and whether or not she was afraid for herself or her family, including President Bush.
“Well, I think every first lady probably worries a little bit about her husband,” Mrs. Bush said. “I think that’s just part of it. But not really. I’m not really a fearful person and neither is George. And, of course, we knew we were protected by the Secret Service.”
“Seldom was I really afraid for – for either him or for myself,” she added.
Regarding the first couple’s safety on the day terrorists attacked the nation, Mrs. Bush described to Blitzer, in detail, the White House bunker the couple stayed in for awhile – something she also writes about in her book.
“Well, it really is sort of like a bunker,” she said. “It’s deep below the White House in a basement. I think it was maybe added – I don’t know – during Truman or Roosevelt, during war. And it looks like it was added during Truman or Roosevelt. The furniture looks that old that’s in it.
“There’s a hide-a-bed there that the very first night, September 11, that night, the Secret Service told George and me that they wanted us to stay there, to spend the night there. And George just said, ‘No.’ You know, he said, ‘I’ve got to be in my own bed. I’ve got to get some sleep.’ Because he knew that everything had changed for him and for his presidency and for our whole country.”
The U.N. elections are a big victory for the Organization of the Islamic Conference. By the way, to my liberal friends who say, “Hey, what’s the big deal about the Organization of the Islamic Conference? Lighten up, man”: Try rolling around your tongue the words “Organization of the Christian Conference.” Would you be quite so cool with that? Fifty-seven prime ministers and presidents who get together and vote as a bloc in international affairs? Or would that be a theocratic affront to secular sensibilities? The casual acceptance of the phrase “the Muslim world” (“Mr. Obama’s now-famous speech to the Muslim world” — the New York Times) implicitly defers to the political ambitions of Islam. And, if there is a “Muslim world,” what are its boundaries? Forty years ago, the OIC began with mainly Middle Eastern members plus Indonesia and a couple more. By the Nineties, former Soviet Central Asia had signed on, plus Albania, Mozambique, Guyana, and various others. In 2005, Russia was admitted to “observer” membership.
But along with the big headline victories go smaller ones. These days, Islam doesn’t even have to show up. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has quietly pulled representations of Mohammed from its Islamic collection. With the Danish cartoons, violent mobs actually had to kill large numbers of people before Kurt Westegaard was sent into involuntary “retirement.” Even with South Park, the thugs still had to threaten murder. But the Metropolitan Museum caved preemptively — no murders, no threats, but best to crawl into a fetal position anyway.
Last week, the American Association of Pediatricians noted that certain, ahem, “immigrant communities” were shipping their daughters overseas to undergo “female genital mutilation.” So, in a spirit of multicultural compromise, they decided to amend their previous opposition to the practice: They’re not (for the moment) advocating full-scale clitoridectomies, but they are suggesting federal and state laws be changed to permit them to give a “ritual nick” to young girls.
A few years back, I thought even fainthearted Western liberals might draw the line at “FGM.” After all, it’s a key pillar of institutional misogyny in Islam: Its entire purpose is to deny women sexual pleasure. True, many of us hapless Western men find we deny women sexual pleasure without even trying, but we don’t demand genital mutilation to guarantee it. On such slender distinctions does civilization rest.
You need to read the whole thing to feel the full weight of existential despair it brings.
The Obama administration seems to have issued an internal gag order that forbids any official statements that might cast even the most extreme interpretations of the Islamic religion in a negative light. The “force protection review” of the Fort Hood massacre omitted any mention of shooter Nidal Malik Hasan’s openly radical Islamic worldview or the fact that he made the jihadist war cry “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire. Initially, the Obama administration refused to even call the massacre an act of terrorism, much less radical Islamic terrorism.
Last year, the Department of Homeland Security Domestic Extremist Lexicon, which was pulled out of circulation in the wake of controversy with other department publications, listed Jewish extremism and various forms of Christian extremism as threats but made no mention of any form of Muslim extremism. The Feb. 1, 2010 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review discusses terrorism and violent extremism but does not mention radical Islam as a motivator, or in any context. The 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review likewise avoids any terminology related to Islam.
As Steyn says, “one is tempted to modify Trotsky: You may not be interested in Islam, but Islam is interested in you. Islam smells weakness at the heart of the West”.
I want to be fair and balanced, today, so here’s something sure to put a smile on your face:
John Hinderaker of Powerline asks, “Is the United States Greece?,” and then cites this factoid: The national debt in the US (on a gross basis) will climb to above 100pc of GDP by 2015 – a far steeper increase than almost any other country.
The Democrats in Washington are both too stupid and too ideologically committed to read the writing on the wall. They are leading the United States over a financial cliff, and they have no intention of turning back. On the contrary: if they can, they will hobble our economy further by enacting a carbon tax. There is only one way to stop them, and to save our children–from whom greedy, selfish Washington liberals are borrowing trillions of dollars–from a lifetime of debt. The Democrats must be voted out in 2010, and Barack Obama must be denied a second opportunity to deconstruct the country that he doesn’t much like.
Here are some dancing robots to help get that graph out of your mind:
Obama’s White House message machine employs more than 60 people directly, at a cost to taxpayers of at least at least $4.3 million a year.
Those totals, however, don’t include many more messengers who aren’t in the annual report on the White House office staff that’s submitted to Congress, including photographers and the communications staffs of Vice President Joe Biden and the National Security Council, all of whom are paid from different accounts.
They also don’t include hundreds of political appointees scattered across cabinet departments and agencies who were hired with approval from the Obama White House and who work with the White House to present a coordinated message.
In all, about 350 people work on the president’s message, according to Martha Joynt Kumar, an expert on the White House communications machinery and a professor at Towson State University in Maryland.
“It’s an enormous operation,” said Bradley Patterson, a veteran of the Eisenhower White House who’s chronicled the growth of White House operations.
The president himself relies heavily on the traditional paths to America’s hearts and minds, from a televised Rose Garden statement Friday voicing anger over the oil spill to his frequent gifts of exclusive interviews to favored TV and newspaper journalists from elite news organizations.
At the same time, he’s limited his exposure to questions in other formats — especially traditional press conferences — as his White House relentlessly uses the new media to supplement its selective manipulation of the old.
Ain’t that grand? We’ve got a full-blown Ministry of Truth operating out of the Obama WH, and we get to pay for it! YAY!
-
No wonder he’s getting snippy…all that effort, and he’s still not getting 100% positive media:
The president seemed genuinely angry today, on a beautiful spring afternoon in the Rose Garden. Having watched him on a daily basis for about a year and a half, I’m confident he wasn’t faking it.
He seems deeply upset about the growing calamity in the Gulf, about the environmental damage, about the irresponsibility of the companies involved, and about their efforts to shift the blame.
“I did not appreciate what I considered to be a ridiculous spectacle during the congressional hearings into this matter,” he intoned. “You had executives of BP and Transocean and Halliburton falling over each other to point the finger of blame at somebody else.”
President Obama may have decried finger-pointing today, but he also did a fair amount of it himself. Not only at the three companies, but at previous administrations.

And oh, in case you missed it, (and you probably did – as brilliant as it is – only 111 views thus far on YouTube – WTF people the stupid smiling chihuahua has almost 59,000).
How can I say that? Very simple. Nothing Holder does and says is at odds with the thoughts and directions of his boss. Barack Obama chose Eric Holder, and he didn’t do so out of ignorance or carelessness. Holder is an Obama Mini-Me. If Obama was Attorney General he’d be doing exactly what Holder is doing. And if and when Holder is finally made to resign in disgrace – a resignation I hope not to see any time soon – someone equally at odds with the rest of the country and equally unfit to serve will take his place. Because it takes such a person to do what Obama wants done.
So let’s leave Holder where he is. Let him be an albatross around the President’s neck. The Democrats were sorry to see Michael “Brownie” Brown go as head of FEMA; now that their Michael Brown (or at least one of their Michael Browns; Janet Napolitano, Carol Browner, Tim Geithner, Kathleen Sebelius, Ken Salazar and even Joe Biden are also just as incompetent and ridiculous as Brownie was) has shown his stripes in the AG’s chair, I want him as a symbol of the weakness, inanity and fecklessness of this administration as a whole.
Removing Holder won’t change the performance of the Justice Department. All that would do is put someone just like Holder, but who doesn’t have his disgraceful reputation and record in the job YET, in charge. And that fresh face will go on doing the terrible work Obama wants done without the public’s recognition of same.
Sounds a lot like the argument I made some months ago when a hue and cry erupted for Janet Napolitano to step down:
“An attorney general who eight and a half years after Sept. 11 does not realize our enemy is radical Islam is either so politically correct or so out of touch that he doesn’t deserve to be attorney general,” King said on Fox News.
“I mean, this is why he wants to have the terror trials of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in Lower Manhattan — he just doesn’t get it.”
LOL!
Media Mutters really stuck it to the wingnuts, this time:
Right-wing media have falsely claimed that Attorney General Eric Holder “refus[ed] to say ‘radical Islam’ is a cause of terrorism.” In fact, Holder specifically mentioned “a radical version of Islam” as a possible motivation for Faisal Shahzad, a suspect in the attempted Times Square bombing.
Well, my goodness! Why, yes…If you watch the video, you can clearly hear Holder saying (after much evasiveness and dissimulation): “I certainly think it is possible that people who espouse a radical version of Islam have had an ability to impact people like Mr. Shahzad…” while looking like it was making him ill to say it.
After being hectored for 2 minutes he did finally sort of, in a round-about way, almost say —-well no, he really neveractually did say that radical Islam is the cause of terrorism. He was willing to entertain the idea that it may be a contributing factor, and it pained him to say it.
(I’m now picturing Media Matters hacks breathlessly fact-checking the point where Holder finally admits radical Islam may possibly have had an ability to impact terrorism…“2 minutes in” – ORLY??? How about 2 and a HALF minutes?!)
UPDATE II:
Carol from No Sheeples Here had the same idea, and made her own video, which can be seen, here.
I mean, we all know the first instinct of a Dem Socialist is to lie and/or obfuscate when cornered…so why would he admit a truth that makes him look like such a weak, demagogic tool? Was he afraid that if he had claimed that he had read the legislation, he would have been grilled about the details within? Heh!
THIS IS THE QUALITY OF ANALYSIS I EXPECTED FROM HIM: Holder admits: No, I haven’t read the Arizona law I’ve been dumping on. “Here’s the money question, prompted not just by Holder’s ignorance but the fact that Hillary criticized the statute without having read it either: Are they deliberately not reading it so that they have an excuse to walk back their criticisms later if this gets too hot politically?”
UPDATE: “The Most Transparently Irresponsible Administration in American History.” “How could the Attorney General of the United States malign a state law as raising profound constitutional questions, imply that the lawmakers who drafted it are racists, and direct a Justice Department review of the law without having read the law?“
ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Michael Alexander writes: “Why does this surprise anyone? After all, this administration doesn’t seem interested in reading the laws they write and pass themselves, so why should they be expected to take the time to read someone else’s?”
I’m not through with Holder, today…Check back for more of his brilliance, later.
I just feel like hunkering down, and posting nothing but cat videos, until reinforcements come in November.
Then I saw the Glenn Beck videos from his show, today, at YouTube, and I thought, yeah, no kidding - – we’re so screwed – and I almost put up another cat video. But Beck has been busydiscovering the networks, connecting dots, and lifting rocks- exposing the squirming grubs underneath. He’s doing important work :
Acknowledgements …I would like to thank my brother Marc, whose involvement in radical causes led me to explore the history of American radicalism in the hope of clarifying my own political ideas…
…most historians have looked everywhere but to the American socialist movement itself for explanations of U.S. socialism’s failure…
…the American socialists· “failure to build a movement that even resembled Sombart’s idealized notion of a class-conscious party–a failure which they shared with most of their European counterparts–did not render their party any less significant. Nor did such a failure render their party any less successful…
[To explain why the] American socialist movement of the Progressive Era suddenly fell apart… we must turn to the internal workings and problems of the socialist movement itself.
…the dissolution of the Socialist Party resulted not from the walkout of the syndicalists in 1912 but from the infinitely more disastrous departure of the communists seven years later…
…[Early on] the [American] socialists divided into two camps: those of “constructive” and “revolutionary” socialism.
…the Russian Revolution set the spark to their long-smoldering rebellion, and the Socialist Party burst into flames. In 1919, the SP split into two, and the New York City communist movement emerged… by the last 1920′s, the socialist movement in New York City was dead.
…The SP’s first priority was to prepare for revolution than to work for reforms — to bring ultimate salvation rather than immediate relief.
Conservative craft unions could not develop the unity and class consciousness that alone would lead workers to vote the socialist ticket. They could not compel a resistant capitalist class to accept an SP electoral victory. Nor could they prepare the workers for the administration of industry in the cooperative commonwealth. According to such left-wing leaders as Boudin and Slobodin, then, the socialists needed to do all in their power to set New York’s unions on a militant path. If that meant interfering with some other “arm”, so be it.
…Most historians have viewed World War I as an unqualified disaster for the American socialist movement…
You can almost picture her weeping hot, bitter, tears during this part….
Here’s her conclusion:
In our own times, a coherent socialist movement is nowhere to be found in the United States. Americans are more likely to speak of a golden past than of a golden future, of capitalism’s glories than of socialism’s greatness… Why, in a society by no means perfect, has a radical party never attained the status of a major political force?
…[America's] societal traits… a relatively fluid class structure, an economy which allowed at least some workers to enjoy [prosperity]… prevented the early twentieth century socialists from attracting an immediate mass following. Such conditions did not, however, completely checkmate American socialism…
…Through its own internal feuding, then, the SP exhausted itself forever and further reduced labor radicalism… to the position of marginality and insignificance from which it has never recovered. The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism’s decline, still wish to change America
…if the history of Local New York shows anything, it is that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope.
Dealbreaker?
Allahpundit thinks not. Apparently everyone was a radical in college, or something. Who knew? I wasn’t—but maybe I didn’t go to the right school?
The opinion that these folks’ ideas have most likely evolved significantly since their radical college days, I think is a mistaken one. I think many of the Democrat Socialists we see in government, today, were radicalized in college, (like Hillary), and stayed radical. In Obama’s case…he was radical before he even started college -he sought out the Marxist professors, etc, etc.
Look…I had Obama pegged back in the Spring of ’08, when I noticed his disturbing pattern offriends, associates, and supporters. Hannity did a show about Obama’s ties to radicals in the Fall of ’08, and again last Fall, another one exposing the disturbing pattern of radical appointees in Obama’s administration:
…[America's] societal traits… a relatively fluid class structure, an economy which allowed at least some workers to enjoy [prosperity]… prevented the early twentieth century socialists from attracting an immediate mass following. Such conditions did not, however, completely checkmate American socialism…
Too much. The fact that Capitalism was working, was almost enough to destroy the Socialist movement, darn it all. But since true Utopia doesn’t take place until complete equality of outcome has been achieved, the Statists kept on trying.
Elena Kagan must have been doing cartwheels the day Obama was elected.
Last night I discovered that in 2006 Kagan made a maximum contribution ($500) to the campaign of John Bonifaz, who was running for the Democratic nomination to be Secretary of the Commonwealth of MA. Bonifaz, it turns out, is about as far as left as you can get without joining the Bernie Sanders fan club. His opponent in the race actually accused him of being a closet Green Party supporter, which of course is the polite way to accuse someone of being a socialist. But forget labels, here are just a few facts which establish Bonifaz’ far left credentials:
His only national-level political endorsements in 2006 were from Dennis Kucinich, John Conyers, and Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Early national board member of the Progressive Democrats of America, whose platform includes ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, establishing single-payer health care, enacting the Employee Free Choice Act, and opposing all free-trade agreements. Current advisory board members include Maxine Waters, Raul Grijalva, Lynn Woolsey, and for good measure SDS founder Tom Hayden.
It should also be emphasized that this was the primary campaign to unseat the incumbent Democrat. Based on Bonifaz’ limited base of support within the Democratic party, and the outcome of the election where he lost 83% to 17%, he really was a fringe candidate. A far left, fringe candidate.
The United States posted an $82.69 billion deficit in April, nearly four times the $20.91 billion shortfall registered in April 2009 and the largest on record for that month, the Treasury Department said on Wednesday.
Look what some hot-headed, wingnutty alarmist said about it: “the United States must tackle its deficits quickly to avoid the kind of debt crisis that hit Greece.”
Ha-ha. Greece! Ha! Like thatcould ever happen here. Haha. Heh…..
