While reviewing materials from the event, we had a sudden sense of déjà vu: the feeling that we had heard these talking points before. Is this a good idea? I’m not sure this is a good idea:
Although most of the recent talk regarding flotillas has revolved around ships sailing toward Gaza, at least two plans have emerged for “reverse flotillas” – from Israel toward Turkey – to highlight what organizers have labeled the Turks’ “shameless hypocrisy” in their criticisms of the Jewish state.
The most ambitious of the two plans has been devised by members of Israel’s National Student Union, who this week announced their intention to set sail toward Turkey, in an effort to bring humanitarian aid to the “oppressed people of Turkish Kurdistan” and to members of the “Turkish Armenian minority.”
Student Union chairman Boaz Torporovsky, who has been leading the reverse flotilla charge, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday, “Hundreds of people have volunteered for the flotilla, and many more are contacting us all the time for ways they can help.
“Our plan is to deliver much-needed humanitarian assistance to the Kurds of Turkey, who by the way outnumber Israelis and Palestinians combined,” he said.
“And to show that Turkey has its own issues when it comes to the treatment of its minorities, which they should consider before criticizing us.”
Torporovsky added that the National Student Union members had two separate flotilla ideas, both of which they hoped to embark on soon. The first was a flotilla of private yachts that would head out to sea if additional Gaza-bound flotillas entered Israeli waters.
I mean, sure – exposing hypocrisy is great and everything, but- somehow, I think a boat-full of Israeli Jews floating into a hostile Muslim nation’s waters in order to embarrass them….doesn’t sound… safe.
“We need three things to pull this part off,” he (Torporovsky) said.
“Money, logistical support and balls – and we’ve got the last two things covered.
Kid’s got spunk. I’ll give him that. But if there’s an international incident, who do you think gets the worldwide condemnation? Who gets castigated for being needlessly confrontational?
Yeah, I know. The usual suspects would be oblivious to the hypocrisy, which is the point. Blind haters don’t recognize their hypocrisy even when hit over the head with it.
I’m not sure this is a good idea…

A video going viral today shows a hearing-impaired baby named Jonathan bursting into a smile after his new cochlear implant — a sort of bionic ear — is switched on.
It is a beautiful moment, indeed. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device, and while it does not restore ordinary “hearing” per se, it does provide a sense of sound to the brain.
More than 112,000 people worldwide have received cochlear implants. In the United States, roughly 23,000 adults and 15,500 children have received them, according to 2008 statistics on the Deafness Research Council website.
Surprisingly, cochlear implants are controversial within the deaf community, as some feel that deafness should be seen as a cultural statement, not as a disability, ABC News reports.
Yeah, I was shocked to see that there are some deaf folks thumbing down the video at YouTube. Just when you think you’ve found something everyone should love…

I shook my head in disgust, and disbelief at the time, and well… I have the same visceral reaction, now:
Hey, do unemployment checks count as “paychecks” on that Stimulometer thingie?
From a Keynesian point of view, a stimulus is money invested wisely, designed to get a country out of a recession, not a “steaming pile of garbage” plunging us further into debt with no plan to get out.
The stimulus Dem boondoggle, as designed by Nancy and Co. was a failure, as Keynesian economist, Jeffrey Sachs, now admits:

What a difference a year and a half makes. Exit polls on election night, November 4, 2008 showed the economy at the top, and terrorism at the bottom. The national debt didn’t even rate:
Fully 62 percent of voters said the economy was the most important issue, six times more than cited the war in Iraq (10 percent), health care (9 percent) or terrorism (9 percent).
Never letting a crisis go to waste, the Dem Socialists used the country’s concern over the economy as their opening to inflict even more damage.

What I believe the President should be doing is standing by our ally Israel. Everyone understands now the international community has gone in an uproar over this and the point that’s been missed is the fact that Israel’s enemies really are aiming to destroy Israel. Those voices start in Iran, Syria and what’s seems to be now Turkey is throwing in with those voices. We have consistently relied upon Israel in this country as part of our national security strategy and the President in trying to figure this out, ought to allow Israel to do what it must to defend itself.
It’s clear that Republicans (with the notable exception of Ron Paul, of course) are coming out strong in support for Israel. Will Dems follow suit? Or are they waiting for a poll to come out before they decide what position to take?
Jennifer Rubin spoke with Peter King on Sunday, and asked if he was surprised that the Obama team went along with the UN resolution on the flotilla, rather than vetoing it like past administrations would have:
“No.” He continued, “This is basically what we have seen from day one – [the administration] putting distance between itself and Israel.” He believes there is a conscious effort by Obama to deny Israel the “privileged status” it has enjoyed as a close, democratic ally of the United States. This is part and parcel, he explains, of the “apology tour, how Netanyahu was treated, and [asserting] the moral equivalency between housing construction in Jerusalem and Iran constructing a nuclear weapon.”
What does King intend to do when Congress returns tomorrow? He announces that he will send a “Dear Colleague” letter out on Monday, calling on all House members to join in a resolution that will be introduced in the next few days. The resolution will include “many paragraphs on Israel’s right to defend itself,” take issue with the critics of Israel, call for the U.S. to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council, and demand that the administration oppose any UN investigation of Israel.
This is great because it will show Jewish voters just where their Congressmen stand.
As you can imagine, Jewish fundraising is way down, so Dems will have to play their cards carefully.
An interesting theory: “Good cop” Joe Biden, who was sounding very pro-Israel, last week, may be being used by the administration as cover.
Guess which one gets the softball questions:
Pamela’s on the wrong side of history? She’s “fringe”? Really? Why do a majority of Americans object to the Ground Zero mosque? Are they all on the wrong side of history? Was this guy just spouting off a bunch of cheap talking points, or what? Those who don’t buy the bull are “ignorant”…that’s the koolaid the oh-so-tolerant left needs to feel smugly superior to the rest of us.

CNN iReporter Julio Ortiz-Teissonniere, who attended the rally and sent photos to CNN, said the number was closer to 200-300 while he was there for the first 45 minutes of the event. All three said the protest was peaceful.

I am estimating that about 8,000-10,000 people showed up to this protest since there were so many people that were passing by and showed their support as well. I did not see any news trucks from CNN, MSNB Sleaze, NY1 or Fox News. The press prior to the protest most likely helped get the crowd out, so at least that is good news.
Maybe that’s where the 8,000 number came from?

Hundreds of people supporting Arizona’s new law cracking down on illegal immigration rallied near the state Capitol on Saturday afternoon in soaring temperatures.
Hundreds of motorcycle riders kicked off the downtown Phoenix rally by riding in a procession around the Capitol. Supporters waved American flags and some carried signs that read “What part of illegal don’t they understand?”
When temps soar to 105°, I tend to be near a pool if I’m going to spend any amount of time outside. So kudos to those folks for coming out.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, perhaps best known for his efforts targeting illegal immigrants, drew loud chants of “Joe, Joe, Joe!” when he spoke to the audience at the rally.
One man yelled to him: “We’ve got your back, Joe!”
Arpaio praised lawmakers for passing the law and reiterated that he’ll lock up as many illegal immigrants as his deputies can arrest.
“We’ll put tents from here to Mexico,” he told the crowd, referring to his famed Tent City, a section of the county jail where all inmates are housed in surplus military tents.
Ted Hayes, a black homeless advocate, activist and Republican, also spoke at the rally:

In the hubbub surrounding the “battle of the flotilla,” Netanyahu’s quick reversal of his decision to remain in the United States has been largely ignored. It turns out that Obama told him to leave because he didn’t want Netanyahu to use the White House as a stage on which to present Israel’s side of the story.
The flotilla violence caught Netanyahu in the midst of a diplomatic trip to North America. He was in the Canadian capital of Ottawa at the time, about to leave for Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama. The meeting was to have been a way for Obama to make up for the humiliation he dealt Netanyahu on his last visit, when he refused to be seen with the Israeli leader in public.
Netanyahu announced immediately after the flotilla news broke that he would remain in North America and would meet with Obama as scheduled. However, within minutes after media reported Netanyahu would continue with his trip as scheduled, he abruptly announced a change of plan and set off immediately for Israel to “deal with the flotilla crisis.”
Behind the scenes, it was Obama officials who caused the turnabout. Globes cites sources in both Jerusalem and Washington who say that Obama officials gave a clear message to Netanyahu’s people: “Don’t come.”
Ugh. I’m just shaking my head, here.

Yes, I know people have said things even more bigoted and stupid than dotty old Helen Thomas did the other day (not that she was any brighter before she got dotty), but I can’t help but thinking Ms. Helen felt freer to express her rancid anti-Semitism because of the times in which we live. I mean — to be blunt – the era of Barack Obama.
Consciously or not, our President — with his increased, and pompously self-righteous, pressure on Israel — has sent a message to the world. It’s time to blame the Jews. And the world, in economic extremis, is all too eager to find someone to blame.

“Yesterday, President Obama said the Israeli action to stop the flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip was “tragic.” What is truly tragic is that President Obama is perpetuating Israel’s enemies’ version of events. The Israeli government has imposed a blockade around Gaza because Hamas remains committed to Israel’s destruction, refusing to recognize Israel’s right to exist and using territory under their control to launch attacks against Israeli civilians. The Israeli blockade of Gaza, in order to prevent the re-arming of Hamas, is in full compliance with international law.
