Saturday Political Matinee

First up, Mike Stopa, who’s running for Congress in MA-3, on Obama’s unacceptable recess appointment of NHS fan-boy, Donald Berwick to head Medicaid and Medicare services:

Daniel Henninger, after providing numerous examples of Berwick’s “revolutionary” ideas in the WSJ, says:

There is no need to rehearse the analogies in literature and social thought that Dr. Berwick’s ideas summon. That the Obama White House would try to push this past public scrutiny with a recess appointment says more about Barack Obama than it does Dr. Berwick.

Vilifying Dr. Berwick alone for his views is in a way beside the point. Within Mr. Obama’s circle they all think like this. Defeat Dr. Berwick, and they will send up 50 more who would pursue the same goals.

If the American people want the world Dr. Berwick wishes to give them, that’s their choice. But they must be given that choice with full, televised confirmation hearings.

Barack Obama, Donald Berwick and the rest may fancy themselves philosopher kings who know what we need without the need to inform or persuade us first. That’s not how it works here. That is Sen. Baucus’s point.

It should be clear why Berwick is bigger than Kagan. We need a large public debate over these views, over what Mr. Obama has said his health plan would and would not do. We need to find out if every Democrat in Congress and every Democrat writing newspaper columns and blogs agrees with Dr. Berwick about clinical and individual autonomy and about leaders with plans.

Then we need to build an election around whether we want to go down the road Dr. Berwick has planned for us, or start dismantling the one that President Obama paved through Congress on a partisan vote.

I vote for dismantling everything they’ve done.

Mark Levin On The New Financial Reform Law

This  “massive expansion of government influence in our daily lives” amounts to “a slow but certain takeover of the private sector”:

Why don’t we just change the word, “Marxism” to “reform”.

Doug Ross:

Executive Summery: there’s no financial reform in this bill. It is intended to expand government control over the private sector. Like “health care reform”. And the takeover of GM and Chrysler. And “Cap-and-Trade”.

This is how societies collapse, folks.

Will Republicans be able to repeal this, (like ObamaCare),  if we take the White House in 2012???

God help us.

Video: NAACP’s Washington Director Caught in Lies About Tea Party…

Typical lib – can’t keep track of his lies – “I’m too askeered to go to a tea party” one minute, ” yeah, I was at the tea party rally where they spit on John Lewis …”, the next:

Yeah he was so there…. he doesn’t even know that John Lewis wasn’t the one alleging he was spat upon, that was Cleaver, (who actually got hit with some accidental spittle spray as he walked closely by a protester yelling, “kill the bill!”). FAIL. And the N-word allegation has never been proven, despite numerous clips from the DC  Kill the Bill rally, taken  from all different vantage points. It’s not there.  It didn’t happen. Rep. Andre Carson is  liar, and he should be censured .

These guys are so patently, transparently dishonest, it’s sickening.

Video: Tea Party Crashers – Yeah, You Guys Are Racist White Supremacists, No We Can’t Back That Up With Any Evidence Whatsoever

This video from the Washington DC Tax Day Tea Party, speaks volumes.

When asked to point out just one racist sign out of the thousands there, this hapless drone  can only offer, “that’s just my analysis”:

They had nothing. But that didn’t stop them from smearing the entire movement.

That puts them in pretty good company, I guess.

About That 2012 Presidential Poll

I’m starting to worry about 2012…

It’s not that that the results of this PPP poll aren’t encouraging…..

PPP pitted Barack Obama against five potential Republican challengers for the 2012 presidential campaign, and the only one Obama beat was … Jan Brewer.  Even that, PPP admitted, resulted from Brewer’s lack of name recognition.  The headline, though, is Sarah Palin’s dead heat with the President:

With his approval numbers hitting new lows it’s no surprise that Barack Obama’s numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesn’t have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point.

It’s not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly well liked. Only Huckabee has positive favorability numbers at 37/28. Romney’s at 32/33, Gingrich at 32/42, Palin at 37/52, and Brewer at 17/20. But with a majority of Americans now disapproving of Obama it’s no surprise that a large chunk of them would replace him as President if they had that choice today.

Okay, I love Sarah Palin, but I don’t want her running for President. I don’t want her and her family to go through that hellish onslaught, again, and I don’t want to go through that  again. It was painful to watch her try to fend off all of those arrows. She had to quit being the Governor of Alaska, because of the incessant harassment, for crying out loud..  How would she ever be able to govern?

Unfortunately, she’s too polarizing a figure.  She’s bold, beautiful, accomplished, conservative, pro-life, pro-family – everything the left despises.

I’d like to see her as RNC Chair. I think that’s her natural home.

As for the rest of the guys on the list, Romney(care), Gingrich, Huckabee….PLEASE. How ’bout not? All three of those guys have some good qualities, especially Gingrich, but I think America in 2012 is going to be looking for some fresh faces with fresh ideas to get us out of the massive hole Obama and Co have dug for us. And who has said anything about Governor Brewer running for President? Where did that come from? Not that I don’t appreciate everything she’s doing in AZ, but again — too polarizing.  And I think she’s right where she needs to be at the moment.

One fresh face who I wish would consider a run, is Congressman Paul Ryan (WI) , a man who distinguished himself during the health care debates. He’s a fiscal hawk, and a member of the President’s Fiscal Commission.  He’s young, good looking (unfortunately that matters), well spoken, and sharp as a tack. I’ve never seen him falter.

Here he describes himself as “in the Chris Christie  camp”, on spending:

video via The Save Jersey Blog

I like Mike Pence, too, as well as Senator DeMint, and “dark horse” candidate Herman Cain...but at the moment, Ryan’s my favorite.

Facing Doom In November, Dems Do What They Do Best: Blame Everyone But Themselves For Lousy Economy

What a disgusting spectacle.  As their prospects in November grow dimmer, desperate Dem Socialists are lashing out like cornered rats at everyone and anyone but their own physical selves.

Nancy Pelosi blames the Senate:

While trying to mend ties between her caucus and the White House, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi turned her ire toward her Senate colleagues on Thursday, blaming Senate delays in passing the Democratic agenda for the disappointing jobs picture heading into the midterm elections.

“If we had healthcare sooner, if we had energy sooner, if we had an education bill sooner – they are all three pillars of job creation – and that would have resulted in more jobs created by now,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) told reporters Thursday at her weekly press conference.

Dingy Harry, (with no sense of irony whatsoever) blames Republicans for “rooting for failure”:

Republicans hope unemployment rates jump higher to give them a better shot at retaking Congress, Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday.

At a press conference announcing a package of proposals to help small business, the Nevada Democrat said Republicans were obstructing legislation to help the economy for political reasons.

“They think the worse the economy is come November, the better they’re going to do election-wise,” Reid said.

Good lord, where to even begin? My irony meter exploded on that one. While I pick up the pieces, I’ll let  Allahpundit handle Dingy, at Hot Air:

No one wants this to continue.  Republicans are just pointing out that these are the predictable outcomes of government running amuck, just as we predicted would happen all along.  If Obama suddenly became a free-market Friedman acolyte and demanded an end to Democratic Keynesianism, we’d cheer him on.

There is a difference between rooting for failure and observing that the natural consequences of class-warfare, populist, anti-capital policies have unfolded just as predicted.  The fact that Reid can’t actually tell the difference is Exhibit A in the argument that he needs to be retired by his constituents.

Update: The irony of the man who announced on Capitol Hill in 2007 that “the war is lost” complaining about cheerleading for failure was lost on me this morning, but not on our commenters.  Nice work!

Update II: The irony doesn’t end there, either.  This is Harry Reid in April 2007:

“We’re going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war,” Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) told reporters yesterday. “Senator Schumer has shown me numbers that are compelling and astounding.”

Reid was referring to  Charles E. Schumer of New York, the Senate Democrats’ campaign chief. “You look at the polling numbers of Republican senators, and the war in Iraq is a lead weight attached to their ankles. They know that,” Schumer said.

Senator Reid, who cheerleads failure and defeat for political gain?

One of the most frequently used tactics of the Alinsky left is to accuse their opponents of what they themselves do, would do, or have done.

Meanwhile, Democratic governors point finger at D.C.:

Democratic governors facing grim budget choices, lingering unemployment and angry voters are pointing a finger at their colleagues in Democratic-controlled Washington to explain this year’s toxic political climate.

Few will directly fault President Barack Obama for their party’s plight heading into the fall midterm elections, but the state chief executives gathered here for the National Governors Association meeting believe Congress and the White House have made an already difficult year worse.

Oh, and of course, they have to blame their favorite punching bag:  Steny Hoyer: Democrats Will Run Against Bush’s Record In 2010 And Win
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said on Tuesday that Democrats will be using George W. Bush’s record against Republicans in the midterm elections, and he’s confident they will win.

“Returning to failed policies is not a productive option for this country. The policies we pursued in the ’90s under Bill Clinton that were unanimously opposed by the Republicans led to the best economy, biggest job creation, and four years of balanced budgets. We’re going to make that argument,” Hoyer told reporters on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. “The policies we pursued succeeded and the policies that the Republicans still talk about returning to were demonstrably failed policies.”

It can’t be that the Dem Socialists have pursued an irresponsible and ruinous fiscal policy that will enslave our children and grandchildren to entire lifetimes of massive and overwhelming government debt?
Democrat budgets for the foreseeable future quadruple the annual deficit: the record-setting figure for 2010 is roughly $1.9 trillion. Obama’s claim about cutting the deficit in half in a few years is a fairy tail — like “slashing prices” by 50 percent the day after you’ve doubled them.
And the administration blatantly lied, stating that tax increases would not affect 95 percent of taxpayers. New taxes on energy — under the fraudulent “cap-and-trade” regime — will force every business in America to raise its prices. Taxpayers will be wounded… directly and indirectly.

Democrats also used every budgeting gimmick, every payoff and bribe, every sleazy tactic possible to pass socialized medicine, a failure everywhere it’s been tried — into the Statists’ plans. As for the $45 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities represented by Medicare and Medicaid? On that subject, Obama is utterly silent.

Obama and the rest of the Democrats want to tell you how much energy you can use (smart grids that can automatically shut off your air conditioner), whether you can give money to charities and which kinds of toilets you can buy.

Even ignoring his oppressive energy taxes, every dollar of Obama’s new debt means that future taxes must be $1 higher in present-value terms. This translates to a discounted present-value legacy of $6.5 trillion of new, future taxes.

The tax burden each family of four can expect? $163,000. Let me repeat that: $163,000 for each and every tax-paying household in America.

Your children… my children… our grandchildren… are all slaves to the Obama budget. Because Barack Obama and his comrades in Congress are ideologues. They could care less about the economy.

They’re beholden to ACORN, the SEIU, the NEA, the AFT, the ACLU and trial lawyers of every vintage and variety.

As subscribers to a failed ideology, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the radical Statists are consigning our descendants to slavery. Girl Scouts. Boy Scouts. Toddlers. Infants. The unborn.

Out with them before they do any more damage.

The Crash The Tea Party Effort Bears Fruit

As I’m sure you remember, earlier this year, lefty drones were encouraged by an unstable moonbat named, Jason Levin, to crash the Tax Day Tea Parties that were scheduled all across America. The idea was to infiltrate the tea parties and get their pictures taken holding ignorant, racist signs, designed to embarrass the movement. The efforts failed miserably because we were ready for them,  and the infiltrators were ostracized, or chased off the grounds virtually everywhere they appeared. But not before their pictures were taken, so their efforts could be roundly mocked and ridiculed in the right wing blogosphere in the days after the tea parties.

Left-wing activists apparently believe that enough time has passed between then and now, to use these discredited pix to smear the tea party movement. Progs are running with the Tea Party=raaaaacist meme, and will be doing everything they can to make it gain traction, from now until November.  Bob Owens, of Confederate Yankee discovered this mess at YouTube, today:

Most of the “racists” depicted there were left wing infiltrators, or edited out of context.

RightKlik has the full video of one of the infiltrators featured above, being called out by the other Tea Partiers at the St. Louis Tea Party. Another supposed “tea party racist” moment was actually captured on film in 2006, long before the movement even started.

Pathetically, Think Progress tried to cover their tracks by making their video private, and reposted it elsewhere…Owens says: Busted for Fraud, Think Progress Decides to Play Cover Up… Poorly

Merely blocking that video and replicating it elsewere doesn’t do you any favors, or save you any embarrassment. Amusingly, it it indicates that you know you have a problem, but that you simply don’t care to correct your lies.

I’d feel sorry for you, if you had souls.

But your offending article is still online. Your video may change locations, but is easily relinked. The more often you do it, the more obvious your panic becomes.

UPDATE:

Something I didn’t know...Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection reports:

Think Progress had great influence on the NAACP’s decision to condemn Tea Parties as racist. The photos relied upon by the NAACP were provided by Think Progress, as was a video Think Progress just released to prove that Tea Parties are racist.

Okay Then

RE: Praying for Hitch…

I held off on saying anything about Christopher Hitchens’ esophagus cancer when the sad news came out a couple of weeks ago, because even though my first instinct was to encourage people to pray,  I wasn’t sure he would have appreciated that. I’ve prayed for him privately, because while I often disagreed with him, I admire him, and even though he can be a pain in the ass, at times,  it would sure be nice if we  could enjoy his intelligence and wit for a while longer.

As Allahpundit noted at Hot Air’s Comments of the Day, there are indeed atheists out there, who actually take offense at the idea of people praying for an unbeliever…  For example:

As an atheist, I find it objectionable that anyone should feel the right to pray for me because I don’t believe as they do. That’s as bad as that idiot church who thinks its a good idea to baptize dead Jews or protest at military funerals. It’s the worst kind of pandering.”

But Hitchens himself, said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt:

Well, I mean, I don’t mind. It doesn’t hurt me. But for the same reason, I wish it was more consoling. But I have to say there’s some extremely nice people, including people known to you, have said that I’m in their prayers, and I can only say that I’m touched by the thought.

Gateway Pundit: Text of NAACP’s Racist Resolution Against Tea Party Patriots

UPDATE II:

Herman Cain’s Response to NAACP Accusation of Racism by Tea Party People

What!

My reaction to the idea of the NAACP declaring the citizen movement known as the Tea Party as racist is ridiculous. I am Black. I have spoken at over twenty rallies and conferences. I have talked directly with hundreds of tea party activists, and have received hundreds of calls from activists to my nightly radio show. Tea Party people are patriots, who want the federal government to stop the spending, stop the legislative abuse, stop the tax increases and start adhering to the Constitution.

It is unfortunate that a once relevant and impactful organization is looking for relevance in the wrong place, namely, race. It should be about unity instead of divisiveness.

I have been called a sell-out, an Uncle Tom and shameless because I disagree with this President’s policies.  Those who are calling me those names have probably never been to a Tea Party event, and I doubt officials of the NAACP have attended an event either. Those that would like to join the name calling parade should save themselves some time. In my grandfather’s vernacular, “I does not care!”

This President ran on a campaign of hope and change, but his change is not working … over 4 million Americans lost jobs in 2009, the unemployment rate has gone from 7.6% in January 2009 to 9.5% in June 2010, the unemployment rate for Black Americans is over 15% and not getting better, and the national debt has increased exponentially to over $13 trillion since January 2009.

Tea Party people are not racist…they are Patriotic Americans who want the greatest country in the world to remain the greatest, by exercising their right to make their voices heard.

This isn’t about race. This is about results, and the results by this administration are missing in action.

The NAACP Attacks The Tea Party As Part Of Orchestrated Campaign To Discredit The Movement

NAA(Liberal)CP Tweet captured by Gateway Pundit

The NAA(L)CP is continuing the hard work that was started by the Congressional Black Caucus in March to discredit the Tea Party movement. No one was ever  “spat upon”, at the  March 20 Kill the Bill rally in DC. Emanuel Cleaver, while walking directly through the tea party crowd, (inches away from the protesters), received some spittle spray from someone who was yelling, “kill the bill!!!”  As the video documents…the man was obviously unaware that he had done anything wrong, although Cleaver looked annoyed. No examples of hollered racial epithets have been proven despite the numerous videos can that be seen on YouTube from the event, and despite the fact that Andrew Breitbart has offered $100,000 to anyone who can prove the allegations. Does the NAA(L)CP really want to revisit all this?

It’s tired. It’s old. It’s doesn’t fly…but as I’ve said before, Democrats are persistent critters and when they want to create a damaging meme about their opposition, there’s no stopping them. They know that a liberal lapdog media is more than happy to carry their water in most cases. Thank God for alternative media, and Fox News.

Hilary Shelton the Senior VP of Advocacy at the NAA(L)CP appeared on Fox to discuss the NAA(L)CP’s new resolution condemning “tea party racism”, which he believes says was apparent at the DC Kill the Bill Rally in March, citing the non incidents that have been thoroughly debunked. Phil Dennis, a founder of the Dallas Tea Party, did his best to fight back, but Shelton engaged in the favorite Lib tactic of filibustering and talking over his opponent. Video at Gateway Pundit.

I’ll be brutally honest. The NAA(L)CP are lying shills for the Democrat party….(but I think you knew that).

No one yelled, the “n” word even once let lone 15 times at the March 20 rally.

No one “spat upon” Emanuel Cleaver.

Rep. Andre Carson is  liar, and he should be censured .

Sarracuda says:

The only purpose of such an unfair accusation of racism is to dissuade good Americans from joining the Tea Party movement or listening to the common sense message of Tea Party Americans who simply want government to abide by our Constitution, live within its means, and not borrow and spend away our children’s futures.

This discussion on Hannity, Tuesday night is enjoyable because all parties agree, and no one’s a lying, spinning, demagoguing hack for a change.

Video via Big Government

Nice Deb Resolution Condemning Racism:

As a tea party activist, I condemn the few instances   tea partiers went overboard with their signs. This does nothing to help the movement, and gives the opposition ammunition to attack on the basis of race, whether or not race was even a consideration.

I condemn the blatant, overt and shocking racism displayed by the SEIU, NAACP, the Black Panther Party, and Obama’s Pastor for 20 years, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, some of which has been captured on video.

I also condemn the pass the NAACP gives itself, while condemning non existent examples of racism in the tea party, and the outrageous left-wing media double standard in reporting these events.
