Audio: The Hermanator Sings “The Impossible Dream” + The Latest From The Cain Train

This should be the official Herman Cain campaign theme song…

The Dail Caller reported on Saturday:

JACKSON, Tenn. — While most GOP candidates are blazing through Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire, Herman Cain followed his roots back to West Tennessee on Friday.

“By the way, you all know that I am 1 and 2 [in the polls],” Cain exulted during a stop in Jackson, Tenn. “I’m not bragging … The bull’s eye on your back gets bigger.”

Cain is currently leading the pack of Republican presidential candidates, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Not even a malfunctioning microphone could sap Cain’s energy as he turned around a few moments of silence by showing off his deep baritone voice and belting out “Impossible Dream.”

More Cain news:

Deroy Murdock, NRO: Cain Channels Reagan:

Since Ronald Reagan left Washington in 1989, Republicans have yearned for a presidential nominee who could present free-market ideas with passion, energy, and commitment. They have longed for someone who would labor for limited government. And they have sunk into disappointment and simmered in rage as two generations of Bushes surrendered to their patrician instincts by ducking fights and letting the Left bludgeon them until they barely had a cheek left to turn.

Herman Cain embodies the Reagan approach. He is confident, tough, and combative, yet sunny, funny, and buoyant. Cain permanently could demolish the Democrats’ vile, vulgar lie that the GOP is the Vatican of U.S. racism. Those who oppose President Obama are not wrong, misinformed, or misguided; rather they are bigoted, Democrats too often contend. Last month, Rep. Andre Carson (D., Ind.) claimed that pro-tea-party Republicans in Congress want to see blacks “hanging on a tree.”

If Republicans nominate Cain, the Democrats’ default argument against the Right utterly implodes. Liberals then may have to battle conservatives on the merits.

The Brody File: Just In: Herman Cain Heading Back to Iowa:

Herman Cain is going back to Iowa earlier than expected.

Ralph Reed, the Chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition just announced via twitter that Cain has confirmed to speak at their big Faith & Freedom Coalition Banquet in Des Moines Iowa next Saturday October 22nd. More on the event here.

Watch out America. Here he comes. The “Hermanator” means business and don’t look now but if he plays his cards right he has a shot at the nomination. Don’t write it off. Watch Herman Cain one-on-one with me on this week’s Brody File show by clicking this link. www.cbn.com/media/player/index.aspx.

Larry Kudlow, Townhall Finance: Cain the Tax-Code Killer:

Herman Cain is the only GOP presidential candidate who wants to kill the tax code. That’s right. Put a knife in it. Junk the entire system. And people are cheering as he rises in the polls in his quest for the nomination.

Cain’s 9-9-9 plan is not perfect. But then again, the good should never be the enemy of the perfect.

Rep. Paul Ryan gives the plan a thumbs-up. Supply-side mentor Art Laffer tells me it would be “far, far better than the current system.” And Chris Chocola, president of the free-market Club for Growth, calls it “a truly revolutionary tax reform that would amount to a massive job-creating tax cut on investments, savings and income.”

As the world now knows, 9-9-9 translates to a 9 percent income-tax rate, a 9 percent value-added net sales tax rate on business and a 9 percent national sales tax overall. Like many conservatives, I am troubled by the national sales tax piece. It reminds me too much of Europe. It could start low and then build on top of the other taxes. But I totally support the first two nines on personal income and business. In my view, these are vast improvements.

The Other McCain: Cain Campaign Finished Third Quarter With $1.3 Million Cash on Hand, No Debt:

Got this press release just after midnight:

Cain’s Surge Leads to Increase in Support

The Friends of Herman Cain presidential campaign committee reports total third quarter contributions of $2,813,341.52 with cash on hand of $1,333,778.56. The committee reported no debt.

The Other McCain: ‘A Real Leader Dot Com’:

You’re hearing a lot of blowback over the “9-9-9″ plan right now, but all that blowback is coming from people who never expected Herman Cain to be where he is right now: Leading national poll by as much as 8 points, neck-and-neck with Romney in the RCP average, moving ahead in Iowa, raising a million dollars a week, with a million in the bank and no campaign debt. Three weeks ago, none of Cain’s critics imagined this was possible, and now that the impossible is actually happening, the critics are in denial, doing the Kübler-Ross grieving process over their lost credibility, telling everybody Cain can’t sustain his momentum, and mocking the “9-9-9″ plan as if it were a joke.

Oh, yeah?

The Club for Growth just endorsed “9-9-9.” Jokes’s on you, Karl Rove.

Now, if you think Herman Cain’s tax plan is too “simplistic” and “unrealistic” as policy, let me tell you something else you won’t believe:

ARealLeader.com

When I first heard that phrase, I was like, “Yeah, whatever. Catchy slogan. What’s the point?” The point is, it’s so simple you can’t forget it.

Just like “9-9-9,” the phrase sticks in your mind: Easy to say, easy to remember, and if you’ll click the link, you’ll discover that the URL re-directs to the online donation page for the Herman Cain campaign.

Nobody keeps track of big government waste and FAIL better than Seton Motley of LessGovernment.com.

Less Government has launched a new website www.BailoutCost.com to track  the tens of billions of dollars the American people will lose on the General Motors bailout when the Obama Administration decides to sell the 500 million shares We the People still own.

Seton Motley writes at Newsbusters:

President Obama once promised us “American taxpayers are now positioned to recover more than my administration invested in GM.”

The New York Times today has a piece entitled:

Auto Bailout Done, Obama Looks for Payback

Two problems – with just the headline.  Which the Times either ignorantly doesn’t know – or knows and willfully ignores. The auto bailout isn’t “done.”

And We the People deserve “payback” a lot more than President Barack Obama does.

American taxpayers still own more than 500 million shares of General Motors (GM) stock.

For us to break even, those shares must be sold at $53 per.  They are right now trading at around $25.

Were our shares to be sold today, we’d lose in the neighborhood of $15 billion.

(Hence our website www.BailoutCost.com – which tracks via a Jerry Lewis-esque tote board the amount we’ll lose on the Government Motors bailout.)

Government Motors owes We the People – huge. But the means do exist to make us whole.

GM is currently sitting on about $34 billion in cash.  Our total stake in GM is about $26.5 billion.

Why doesn’t GM buy us out at the break even price?

Sign the Pledge at www.BailoutCost.com– promising not to purchase any Government Motors products until the American people are paid back.

A New Hampshire poll, where Cain has been very weak, shows: Romney rocking, Cain creeping, Gingrich gaining:

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney continues to strengthen his commanding position in the New Hampshire presidential primary contest but faces opposition from some surprising challengers, says a new survey conducted by Magellan Strategies on behalf of NH Journal.

Romney leads all the candidates on the primary election ballot with 41%. Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain has rocketed into second place with 20%. And Texas Congressman Ron Paul places third with 10%. All other candidates were in single digits.

Cain’s emergence as a top tier candidate following a series of strong debate performances has developed into a major subtext of the 2012 campaign. He has earned an extremely positive public image rating with 62% of respondents saying they have a favorable opinion of him and only 25% saying they have an unfavorable opinion of him. That is second only to Gov. Romney who maintains a stellar image of 68% favorable / 22% unfavorable.

And The Daily Caller is reporting that the influential Club for Growth is backing Cain’s ’9-9-9′ plan:

Chris Chocola, the president of the influential conservative group The Club for Growth, rebuffed critics of Herman Cain’s “9-9-9” tax plan on Friday. The Club’s embrace of Cain’s signature economic proposal comes after days of increased scrutiny of the plan, prompted by Cain’s sudden post-debate emergence as a GOP presidential front-runner.

Americans for Tax Reform chief Grover Norquist has been critical of the “9-9-9″ plan. Other conservative and libertarian economists have expressed worry that it would impose a new national sales tax without abolishing federal income taxes.

Chocola argues the plan’s skeptics just don’t get it. “Those who argue against the sales tax component of ’9-9-9′ really miss the mark,” he said in a statement.

He continued: “Of course a future Congress could raise taxes above the 9% levels, but under our current monstrosity of a tax system, Congress already can raise taxes at any time and often has … Herman Cain’s proposal might not be the perfect plan, but it is a truly revolutionary tax reform that would amount to a massive job creating tax cut on investments, savings, and income.”

Friday Free-For-All: #OWS Hidden Agenda Exposed

(AP Photo/Andrew Burton)

Andrew Breitbart at Big Government has the goods on the #QWS Vermin: ‘Crowdsource This’: Emails Expose #OccupyWallStreet Conspiracy To ‘Destabilize’ Global Markets, Governments

In keeping with the new media notion of crowdsourcing–enthusiastically embraced by the mainstream media when trawling through Sarah Palin’s emails–Big Government will be providing readers later today with links to a document drop consisting of thousands of emails.

The email archive, created by a private cyber security researcher, appears to contain messages shared by the left’s anarcho-socialist activists during the strategic and daily tactical planning of the “Occupy Wall Street” and broader “Occupy” campaign this fall.

***

The true purpose of the Occupy movement appears to be further economic and governmental destabilization, at a time when the world is already facing major financial and political challenges. By embracing the Occupy movement, President Barack Obama, the Democrat Party, and their union allies may be supporting an effort to harm both the domestic and global economies; to create social unrest throughout the democratic world; and to embrace other radical causes, including the anti-Israel movement. Ironically, the emails suggest that the President and the Democrat Party may soon find their friends in the Occupy movement to be a political burden. The email below calls for the Occupy movement to begin “executing higher-risk actions, civil disobedience and arrests,” and suggests: “We must draw a line, disavow the Democrats explicitly, make our messaging a little uncomfortable.”

Visit link to see specific document files.

Thomas Ryan, reporting at Big Government, and fellow activists went under cover, and attended some anarchist meetings in NYC. This document drop is the result of their inclusion on the email #Occupy email list:

Document dropemails reveal the forces behind the #OWS movement – Anarchists, Socialists, Unions, Democrats and their plans.

[Editors' Note - Crowdsourcing: At the end of this post, you will find links to download the #OccupyWallStreet email archive described earlier today by Andrew Breitbart. Send your thoughts, observations, and findings to feedback@breitbart.com, or post them in the comment section.]

On August 10, 2011, the hacker group “Anonymous” announced that it would join the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. That’s what sparked my interest in monitoring #OccupyWallStreet.

I reached out to a colleague and asked if he would be interested in studying the protest with me. At first, it seemed disorganized, and we believed it would only be a few hundred protestors.

As we engaged in monitoring its growth, we recruited other people to help us begin the collection of data available via social media. We began mapping out key players, and monitored Anonymous’s efforts to organize protests in the San Francisco Bay area public transportation system (#opBART) in order to detect patterns and key influencers.

Then, at the end of August, we were alerted by a fellow researcher that information about USDoR (U.S. Day of Rage, to which Occupy Wall Street is connected) had been posted on Shamuk and Al-Jahad, two Al-Qaeda recruitment sites. We began to take the “Occupy” protest more seriously, and dedicated more time to research and monitoring.

Days later, Anonymous announced that it would be releasing its new DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) tool. Because of the Al-Qaeda posting, we contacted the New York Field Office of the FBI so they could investigate the potential threat. From that point on, we decided we needed to include the Human Element of Intelligence (HUMINT), and to infiltrate the protestors to map their ties to Anonymous, and to the postings on Shamuk and Al-Jahad.

***

The emails also reveal that the Occupation attempted to provoke the New York Police Department prior to some of the clashes that occurred with activists.

You can see them employing that tactic this morning at Moonbattracker: Video: After Being Allowed To Stay In Zuccotti Park, #OWS Protesters Clash With Police On March To Wall Street – At Least A Dozen Arrested

Emboldened after being allowed to stay in the Zuccotti Park indefinitely, protesters took to the streets again to “clean up Wall Street”. A violent clash with police ensued, spurred on by protesters who threw garbage and bottles at them.

The Blaze reported:

The cleanup of a plaza in lower Manhattan where protesters have been camped out for a month was postponed early Friday, sending cheers up from a crowd that had feared the effort was merely a pretext to evict them.*

Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway said the owners of the private park, Brookfield Office Properties, had put off the cleaning, scheduled for 7 a.m. More than hour beforehand, supporters of the protesters had started streaming into the park, creating a crowd of several hundred chanting people.

A confrontation between police and protesters, who had vowed to stay put through civil disobedience, had been feared. Boisterous cheers floated up from the crowds as the announcement of the postponement circulated, and protesters began polling each other on whether to make an immediate march to Wall Street, a few blocks away.

More provocation via Ed Morrissey at Hot Air: USCG warns staff after Occupy Boston protesters spit on Coast Guard officer:

Coast Guard member spit on near Occupy Boston tents: MyFoxBOSTON.com

The Coast Guard in Boston confirmed that a woman in uniform was harassed and spat upon near Occupy Boston protesters.

The woman was walking to the train and said protesters spit on her twice, called her foul names and even threw a water bottle at her.

Now, the Coast Guard is warning all staff working on Atlantic Avenue to avoid those protesters while in uniform.

A spokesman for Occupy Boston tells Fox that anyone could have shown up at their protest to spit on and harass Coast Guard officers in an attempt to “defamate” the movement. Uh, sure. Two men spent time at Occupy Boston just on the off chance that a uniformed member of the armed forces might walk by so that they could spit on her — just to discredit the movement?

Michelle Malkin on the predictable filth that’s always left in the wake of any left-wing gathering: Costs of the Occupiers; Plus: Friday showdown in NYC, Boston backlash, Austin arrests:

My column today tallies up some of the taxpayer costs imposed by the Kamp Alinsky Kids across the country so far. There have been other nasty consequences, too — like the cancellation of a food drive and festival in Boston due to Occupier overload. Go here to donate. Latest word from NYC is that protesters are gearing up for a sunrise showdown to fight clean-up evacuation by Zuccotti Park’s private owners. (Update: The rabble-rousers got into a scuffle with police, as they wanted. The rabble is still piling up. Several arrests. See NYPost.) In Austin, TX, four squatters were arrested after refusing to leave while city workers power-washed the filthy plaza that served as Occupation Central. We’ve only just begun to see the dark side of the movement. They’ve been spoiling for a fight long before Day One of the Month of Rage.

Paul Ryan and Art Laffer Endorse Cain’s 9-9-9 Plan (Updated- Ryan’s Office Says Comments not an Endorsement)

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller, House Budget Committee Chairman, Paul Ryan said  he “loves” Cain’s 9-9-9- plan because it’s “a good starting point for debate, and shows the GOP presidential campaign season has entered into a more advanced stage where ideas — not just personalities — have come to the forefront.”

“We need more bold ideas like this because it is specific and credible,” Ryan said. “I’m more of a flat-tax kind of a guy.”

The budget chairman went on to say that ideas like Cain’s plan could help shape the debate over tax reform moving into 2013.

“It’s great to see such bold ideas,” Ryan told TheDC.

When asked for comment, Cain’s campaign staff  expressed appreciation for the unexpected endorsement.

UPDATE: The Correspondence Committee contacted Paul Ryan’s Washington Office for clarification on Ryan’s support for Cain’s 9-9-9 plan.

@corrcomm: I called his office, and asked the staffer if Ryan was endorsing the 999 plan. He answered “No.”

It appears that what he endorses is the fact that Cain has offered a bold plan that gets people talking. Not quite the same thing, but still a positive development.

This comes on the heels of Art Laffer’s endorsement, yesterday: Godfather of Supply-Side Economics Supports Cain’s ’9-9-9′ Plan:

The Godfather of supply-side economics, Arthur Laffer, has given Herman Cain’s signature “9-9-9″ economic plan a critical boost, even as it has come under heavy fire from his GOP presidential competitors

The famed economist told HUMAN EVENTS that the proposal was pro-growth and would create the proper conditions for America’s economy to expand and thrive again.

“Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan would be a vast improvement over the current tax system and a boon to the U.S. economy,” Laffer told HUMAN EVENTS in a statement. “The goal of supply-side tax reform is always a broadening of the tax base and lowering of marginal tax rates.”

Added Laffer: “Mr. Cain’s plan is simple, transparent, neutral with respect to capital and labor, and savings and consumption, and also greatly decreases the hidden costs of tax compliance. There is no doubt that economic growth would surge upon implementation of 9-9-9.”

Laffer also said that “such a system provides the least avenues to avoid paying taxes, yet also maintains the strongest incentives for work effort, production, and investment.”

Two economic heavy hitters in two days endorsing -saying nice things about- his 9-9-9 plan gives Cain’s campaign a nice bump at a time when the wind was already at his sails.

Meanwhile, in a radio interview, yesterday, with Steve Gill,  Cain mentioned Paul Ryan, as well as Jim DeMint as possible VP picks. He also made a point of saying there would be a place at some point for Newt Gingrich to assist him because he brings “so much knowledge and insight to this whole process and to the problems we face in this country.”

Just a thought – whomever the VP nominee is, his role will be the attaaaack dog in the campaign. I’m not sure the mild mannered, congenial, and cerebral Ryan has it in him to fill that role. DeMint, maybe.

What I want to see is someone who will not be afraid to ruthlessly go after Obama on his many, many weak spots.

Another big endorsement for Cain via: The Hill: Barbour says he would vote for Cain if primary was held today

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said Thursday that if the election were today, he and his wife would vote for Herman Cain.

“He is likable. He does not give you the impression that he is full of himself, but rather than he is a straight-talkin’ person who, will tell you, he call it like he sees them. He’s not trying to sugar coat anything and at the same time he is not trying to be shrill and a chest beater. He’s a straight talker and I think that makes him very, very attractive to people,” Barbour said on the Laura Ingraham Show.

UPDATE:

Ace on the Barbour endorsement/support/seal of approval/seal of endorsement:

Barbour doesn’t endorse him himself, but comes close to doing so, and in any event stamps him with his Seal of Approval (even if not his Seal of Endorsement).

It had been thought that Barbour would endorse Perry, so this something Team Perry doesn’t want to hear.

The 9-9-9 plan picks up some support from policy experts.

When a guy says he would vote for the candidate, isn’t that an endorsement?!

Maybe I need to wait until the person specifically says the words, “I endorse” rather than assuming they endorse even after they’ve said they “love” something or will vote for someone. Because you know what happens to people who ass-ume.

Adbusters, Soros $$$ and The Confused Kids of #OWS

-

al-Reuters finally admits what many of us have been reporting for weeks:

The Hungarian-American was an early supporter of the 2008 election campaign of Barack Obama, who will seek a second term as president in the November, 2012, election. He has long backed liberal causes – the Open Society Institute, the foreign policy think tank Council on Foreign Relations and Human Rights Watch.

According to disclosure documents from 2007-2009, Soros’ Open Society gave grants of $3.5 million to the Tides Center, a San Francisco-based group that acts almost like a clearing house for other donors, directing their contributions to liberal non-profit groups. Among others the Tides Center has partnered with are the Ford Foundation and the Gates Foundation.

Disclosure documents also show Tides, which declined comment, gave Adbusters grants of $185,000 from 2001-2010, including nearly $26,000 between 2007-2009.

***

Adbusters, whose magazine has a circulation of 120,000 and which is known for its spoofs of popular advertisements, came up with the Occupy Wall Street idea after Arab Spring protests toppled governments in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, said Kalle Lasn, 69, Adbusters co-founder.

“It came out of these brainstorming sessions we have at Adbusters,” Lasn told Reuters, adding they began promoting it online on July 13. “We were inspired by what happened in Tunisia and Egypt and we had this feeling that America was ripe for a Tahrir moment.”

“We felt there was a real rage building up in America, and we thought that we would like to create a spark which would give expression for this rage.”

Teresa of Koch’s Tour decided to find out more about Kalle Lasn, the man behind Adbusters:

Adbusters was founded by a European-born gentleman by the name of Kalle Lasn, who currently lives in Canada.  Mr. Lasn has never lived in the United States.  He HATES capitalism in all of its forms, and he especially hates American consumerism.  In his book, “Culture Jam“, he audaciously claims that he wants to “wreck the world”.

I guess Mr. Lasn – despite his stated contempt for consumerism, capitalism, and filthy dirty profit – realized that the kids on Wall Street are getting all of the glory (not to mention all of the donations), so he decided to set the record straight.  I mean, there IS money to be made from all of this, after all….

So on October 7th, Mr. Lasn sat down with a reporter at The Tyee - an “independent daily online magazine reaching every corner of British Columbia and beyond” - and gave them a self-serving interview wherein he disclosed just how grass-roots this whole campout in the park – or as I like to call it, ”Airhead Autumn”- really is.

It turns out that this really DID start long before September 17th:

…it all falls under a hashtag that began far from the pepper spray and mass arrests, in the offices of Vancouver’s own Adbusters magazine, as #OccupyWallStreet…..

Mr. Lasn and his cohorts have been attempting to stir the pot for over 20 years as it turns out, so he is positively GIDDY with the success of his latest campaign:

…..as the movement overspills Wall Street, he describes it as the most successful in the 22 years he and his magazine have been advocating “culture jamming,” which originally sought to subvert consumerism.

Adbusters came up with a poster design, which was designed to divert peoples’ attention away from the true meaning behind the protest:

And like all good Politburos, the elite planned on sitting up in their safe little offices, letting all of the work (and any eventual blame) be carried out by the gullible, the naive, and the expendable:

….we always thought of ourselves as the catalyzers, the people who set that meme, as we like to call it, in motion. And right from the start we decided that we’re not going to play a part on the street, that if our meme flies, if people love it, then we’re happy to come up with posters, and we did send them all kinds of handbills…..

It was rather nice of them to provide the kids with supplies, don’t you think?

These people have always been behind the scenes, directing the show, and those kids need to understand that this protest isn’t about THEIR demands; it’s about fulfilling Mr. Lasn’s desire to be relevant:

….I feel like this is the first time in the 20-plus year history of Adbusters that we really have a chance to pull something off….

It doesn’t sound like he is going to give up on this particular protest, because this time he and his friends are convinced that they are >>this close<< to finally seeing their dreams of revolution come to fruition.

Who’s “their”. Read on. It’s basically a collection of nasty old anarchists and commies who are egging the clueless kids on.

Jeff G. at Protein Wisdom notices another distinguishing characteristic of Adbusters:

Shockingly, Adbusters has a history of (thinly-veiled) anti-Semitism — and today’s protests against “Wall Street” and “bankers” is merely an extension of its earlier protests against the controlling cabal of “neocons.”

Adbusters sees filthy, sneaky Jews everywhere — and everywhere this stealthy cabal of neocons, bankers, and Zionists, is controlling the world, robbing The People, and hoarding The Wealth.

Of course, we’ve heard such things before in history. But what’s new is that the mainstream Democrat Party — which is no longer the party of JFK or Scoop Jackson, or even Walter Mondale, but is rather the product of a New Left, led by Marxists, racial demagogues, and “progressives” — have openly embraced and defended this movement.

Discover the Networks Adbusters profile, here:

  • Anti-capitalist collective that derides American consumerism
  • Said in 2011: “Now may be the ripest moment we’ll ever have to power-shift global capitalism onto a new sustainable path.”
  • Condemns Israel for allegedly expropriating Palestinian land and instituting a discriminatory system of laws reminiscent of South Africa’s apartheid regime
  • Warns that pollution created by human industrial activity will lead to “catastrophic climate change”

Can some of the followers of this  movement be reasoned with?

Benjamin Domenech of The Transom thinks so and says the Right is missing an opportunity in dealing with the #OWS folks.

Let me explain. It’s not that I think they’re some latent conservative movement. But at their core, I think they are animated by disgust with many of the same things that drove Tea Partiers to the streets. They are responding to their circumstances the only way they know how, thanks to a flawed mindset ingrained in them by teachers and leaders. Unfortunately, the Right is reacting not by advancing winning arguments to them, but by ridiculing them, conceding them to the radical Left.

Many of us on the right have decided most of these indoctrinated people are unreachable, and the strategy is to reach news consumers in the mushy-middle, the very folks who are susceptible to buying the media’s sympathetic #OWS  media narrative. The counter-narrative we are pushing is that the #OWS crowd are clueless drones, agitators, hippies, hardcore commies, etc., which is of course true for many – perhaps most of them. The leaders of the movement are certainly a radical and nefarious lot.

But Domeneche believes many of the folks showing up at these protests can be reached:

The inherent belief among most Americans is that you direct your destiny. Essentially, this boils down to the idea that with hard work and time and energy you can reach out and seize the future you want for yourself.

This contrasts strongly with the attitude of most of Europe and Asia, where destiny is not subject to individual pursuit. Instead, you live instead within a world outside your control, where you navigate between social and economic barriers within your time.

This creates a point of view where life is about navigating within a world outside of your control. You are powerless as the sailor is over the waves of the sea. Thus, the only response to bad situations is an appeal to the enshrined other, the powerbrokers and larger forces, for rescue, protection, and fair treatment.

In New York City and elsewhere, the Occupy gatherings are an expression of this. They are an inchoate appeal by the distressed, the unemployed, and the frustrated for help from higher powers. They are disgusted with what they perceive as the unfairness of life. They are disgusted by bailouts and corporate cronyism and a government that is not solving the problems they face in life. This is not an inherently leftist movement. It is a cry for help from an uninformed, frustrated America.

Yes, a portion of them are old guard hippies bent on drum circles and jazz hand assemblies, aimed at bending the naive and the uninformed to the vile lie of socialism. They laud the idols of free crap and deviance. They play Lefty to the Grasshopper. But the response of the right is not to advance an alternate argument or convince the Grasshopper that he would be better off with a paycheck instead of an unemployment check; instead, our response is ridicule and anger.

Fairness is not an idea at war with liberty and free enterprise – in fact, it is at its core. The case for equality of opportunity is one that can win hearts and minds. As Calvin Coolidge said, “Democracy is not a tearing down; it is a building up. It is not denial of the divine right of kings; it asserts the divine right of all men.” The meritocracy of earned success is not something these protesters should find unacceptable.

I applaud those conservatives who are willing to brave the #Occupy hordes to make this case.

But, when a movement is marked by such stunning ignorance, radicalism and moonbattery, (see RWN for The Top 10 Moments From The Occupy  Wall Street Protests, So Far), there has to be a place for ridicule, too.

Zombie Pictorial at PJ Tatler: More Anti-Semitism at Occupy Los Angeles

While there have been intense arguments in the media recently about hints of anti-Semitism which have erupted at New York’s Occupy Wall Street protest, very little attention has been paid to similar problems cropping up at other “Occupy” events around the country.

Below you will find some photographs and a video taken at the Occupy Los Angeles encampment which reveal how there is a growing encroachment of anti-Semitic “Jewish bankers” conspiracy theories becoming more and more evident at these events. Obviously not everyone at the “Occupy” protests is an anti-Semite, but the fact that these statements and views fit so neatly into the whole anti-banker milieu, and often go completely unchallenged by fellow protesters, should give everyone cause for concern about where this whole movement is heading.

Herman Cain Is On a Roll

The straw polls are not flukes. He’s winning major nationwide polls, now.

Yesterday, Public Policy Polling, (which I usually ignore)released numbers showing Herman Cain leading Mitt Romney 30-22 in Iowa.

Today, their monthly look at the national picture finds the exact same numbers.

Cain is up 30-22 on Romney with Newt Gingrich sneaking past Rick Perry for 3rd place at 15% to Perry’s 14% with Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul tied for 5th at 5%, Jon Huntsman 7th at 2%, Rick Santorum 8th at 1%, and Gary Johnson 9th with less than 1%.

An NBC /WSJ poll has Cain 27%, Romney 23%, Perry 16%.

After those three, it’s Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, Bachmann at 5 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 3 percent.

The WSJ reports:

The poll of 1,000 adults, conducted from Oct. 6-10, comes as many Republican donors and officials have begun to rally around Mr. Romney as the party’s likely nominee, despite a continued lack of enthusiasm for him documented in the new poll.

For Mr. Cain, the question is whether his newfound prominence, driven in part by his signature “9-9-9″ plan to overhaul the tax code, will be a lasting phenomenon in a campaign that has seen many others surge and then fade. Since the spring, conservatives have given short-lived bursts of support for a string of contenders, including Donald Trump, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and Mr. Perry.

“Will I be the flavor of the week?” Mr. Cain said Wednesday in New Hampshire, where reporters followed him as he addressed the state legislature. “Well, the answer is an emphatic, ‘No,’ because Häagen-Dazs black walnut tastes good all the time.”

The next debate will be held in Las Vegas and guess who’s  calling it “the  Political Battle of the Century“, and needs you to hit his freaking tip jar so he can go?

Maybe that last headline isn’t quite so obviously relevant, from a strictly political perspective. But you see the basic point: The fate of a nation hangs in the balance as this critical Las Vegas debate looms ahead.

New Misfit Politics Video: The ‘We’re Sorry’ Fast and Furious Song

This is just brutal:

Via Michelle Malkin, who also has breaking news on Issa’s subpoena…

Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a subpoena Wednesday to Attorney General Eric Holder as part of his investigation into the gun trafficking operation known as “Fast and Furious.”

“Top Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Holder, know more about Operation Fast and Furious than they have publicly acknowledged,” the California Republican said in a statement. “The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago. It’s time we know the whole truth.”

Video: Holder Abruptly Ends Press Conference When Subject Turns To Fast And Furious

Embattled Attorney General Eric Holder held a press conference, today, to talk about the  foiled Iranian plot to recruit a Mexican drug cartel to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S. by bombing a Washington restaurant.

“This conspiracy was conceived, was sponsored and was directed fromIran” by officials there, Mr. Holder said during a Justice Department news conference to announce a criminal indictment against two men. He vowed to “hold Iran accountable.”

Whatever. Will he hold the Mexican drug cartel (that his ATF armed to the teeth with American weapons) accountable, too?

When the subject turned to Fast and Furious, Holder downplayed the controversy, saying it would let it ”detract us from the important business we have to do here at the Justice Department, including matters like the one that we have announced today.”

And with that, the presser was over.

Rush “questioned the timing” of the press conference:

“What a great way to sidestep the fact that he’s being delivered a subpoena for Fast and Furious,” Rush said, a reference to a report that GOP Rep. Issa is calling for more information from Holder regarding what he knew (and when) about the DOJ’s failed gunwalking program, and could send subpoenas this week.

“So here comes Holder. What nice timing; give him something to distract everybody away from Fast and Furious. That’s exactly what this is. … What great timing. … No question in my mind what Holder’s press conference is about.”

DailyRushbo has the audio.

Fox News: Congressional Investigators to Subpoena Holder in Fast and Furious Probe

It was a brutal weekend for the Obama administration: Gunwalker continued unraveling at a faster pace, with new developments suggesting that Attorney General Eric Holder may not be the only Obama appointee destined for a political fall and possible criminal charges.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa revealed for the first time that the Drug Enforcement Administration was far more involved in running the operation than the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:

It wasn’t an ATF operation. They were part of that. It was a joint operation in which DEA knew more than ATF.

This directly conflicts with prior statements by DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart — she claimed that the DEA only played a supporting role and that her DEA agents in El Paso and Phoenix were only “indirectly involved in the ATF operation through DEA-associated investigative activity.” She further absolved her agency by claiming that “DEA personnel had no decision-making role in ATF operations” associated with Fast and Furious.

Jacob Turk Mulling Another Run For Cleaver’s Seat In MO Dist-5

Jacob Turk, who in 2010, came within nine points of winning US Congressman Emanuel (Spittlegate) Cleaver’s seat in the deep blue 5th district in Missouri,  tells me he is considering another runThe newly redrawn district has been extended to include some Republican leaning rural communities east of Kansas City. He’s making phone calls to his supporters in the district to query their opinions and garner support for another run. According to Turk,  responses have been nothing but positive, and fund-raising pledges are off to a great start.

Turk, who’s never been an establishment favorite,  was recently in Washington DC for a conservative conference with his wife, Donna, and had the opportunity to meet with some nationally known conservative groups who were willing lend some support to his campaign, support he didn’t see in 2010.

With 2012 looking like another unfavorable year for Democrats, and with District 5 newly redrawn to improve his chances, (slightly), and with more support then ever, my question was, what’s stopping you?

He’ll be making a decision, next week.

Dems, in the meantime, have turned to the courts to block the redistricting plan that cost them a Congressional seat in Missouri.

St. Louis Today reported, last month:

A group of plaintiffs backed by a national Democratic legal fund filed a lawsuit in Jefferson City to overturn the map that will pare the number of Congressional districts in the state from nine to eight.

The lawsuit says that the Republican-controlled state Legislature “utilized an overreaching process for wholly partisan purposes” when they redrew the boundaries in a way that eliminates the district of St. Louis Democratic U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan.

***

The suit was bankrolled by the National Democratic Redistricting Trust, established as part of a national strategy to challenge redistricting maps at the state level.

In Missouri, the suit asks the court to throw out the map and redraw a new one before February, when filing for the November 2012 ballot will begin.

Although Carnahan has been hinting for months that he would file a lawsuit to block the redistricting map, the four-term Congressman is not among the plaintiffs in the suit, which includes residents of five Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis.

Lawsuit petition, here.

National Democratic Redistricting Trust is funded in part by the American Association For Justice PAC, which represents the class action lawsuit industry in the nation’s capital. 97% of that money goes to Democrats and only 3% to the GOP.

In other words this is an effort being bankrolled by the institutional left. Carnahan really wants his seat back.

Ballot News: Redistricting Roundup: Lawsuits continue to pile up:

In what is likely to be a sign of things to come, the courts had a busy week this week in redistricting. Nationwide, there were 7 states where a lawsuit was filed this week relating to the redistricting process.

Some of the states had already had one lawsuit filed — others simply say legal action relating to an ongoing suit.

Lawsuits were filed in the following states this week:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Missouri
  • New Mexico
  • Ohio
  • Texas

Overall, lawsuits have been filed in 26 states thus far during the redistricting process.

Bad News For Mitt: NBC Reports 3 Romney Advisers Met 12 Times With Obama Officials To Help Craft ObamaCare

There is one reason, and one reason only, grass-roots conservatives are rejecting Romney’s candidacy for President, and it has nothing to do with his religion. It’s all about RomneyCare, and this report of collusion between his own advisers and the White House does not in any way bolster his claims that he he was always against a “one size fits all” health care plan.

Via Weasel Zippers, *anybody but this guy:

(NBC News) – Newly obtained White House records provide fresh details on how senior Obama administration officials used Mitt Romney’s landmark health-care law in Massachusetts as a model for the new federal law, including recruiting some of Romney’s own health care advisers and experts to help craft the act now derided by Republicans as “Obamacare.”

The records, gleaned from White House visitor logs reviewed by NBC News, show that senior White House officials had a dozen meetings in 2009 with three health-care advisers and experts who helped shape the health care reform law signed by Romney in 2006, when the Republican presidential candidate was governor of Massachusetts. One of those meetings, on July 20, 2009, was in the Oval Office and presided over by President Barack Obama, the records show.

“The White House wanted to lean a lot on what we’d done in Massachusetts,” said Jon Gruber, an MIT economist who advised the Romney administration on health care and who attended five meetings at the Obama White House in 2009, including the meeting with the president. “They really wanted to know how we can take that same approach we used in Massachusetts and turn that into a national model.”

*Of course I reserve the right to totally change my mind should he somehow manage to win the nomination…in which case the refrain changes to “Anyone but Obama.”
