Video: Krauthammer Says Frank’s Retirement The Best Thing He’s Ever Done to Prevent Another Crisis

Upon hearing the news of his retirement, today, lots of people have been reminiscing about Barney Frank’s role in the financial crisis, and Charles Krauthammer certainly wasn’t going to let the day go by without getting his digs in.

I think that is how you remember him, the man who said… these two entities Fannie and Freddie are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” Krauthammer said. “It was unaffordable housing. That’s what he was pushing and trying to deflect those who were trying to reign in the entities.”

“Given the reward system in Washington, [the] man who was neglectful at least on the way up, gets to the author of the bill that is supposed to stop it from ever happening again,” he mused. “I would say that the best thing, most important thing he has ever done to prevent the crash ever happening again is what he did today — retire.”

As for Barney’s seat, there is some speculation today,  that thanks to the 2010 redistricting, it could swing Republican. Sean Trende at RCP writes: Race to Replace Frank Could Be Competitive:

Massachusetts lost a seat in the 2010 decennial redistricting. In addition to eliminating that seat, state Democrats wanted to shore up the party’s performance in the former 10th district, in southeastern Massachusetts. As such, Frank’s district was changed fairly dramatically, and about half of it would have been new territory for him. In particular, the district lost some white working-class towns in the southern portion of the state to the 9th district (based on the old 10th), while adding some suburban territory.

GM Now Offering Free Loaners To “Worried” Volt Owners

The president of GM North America, Mark Reuss  assures consumers “The Volt is a five-star safety car,” but there is still that small matter of  the car’s lithium-ion battery pack which seems to be causing the vehicles to spontaneously burst into flames. It’s a matter of concern for some Volt owners.

MSNBC Bottom Line reports:

General Motors is offering a free GM vehicle loan to any Chevy Volt owner who is worried about the possibility of a battery fire, the company said in a statement Monday.

“Any Volt owner concerned about safety can contact his or her Volt adviser to arrange for a free GM vehicle loan until resolution of the issue,” GM said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday that it had begun an investigation to gauge the risk of fire in the electric vehicle in case of a crash. It began the investigation after a Volt battery pack that was being monitored after a government crash test caught fire Thursday. GM was notified of the investigation on Friday.

Some words of wisdom from Don Surber on the “electric Edsel” via Warner Todd Huston at Big Government:

Friend Don Surber has the idea of the Chevy Volt just right, though. Calling the model the “electric Edsel,” Surber notes that the car nobody wants is a bad idea all the way around.

The Volt seems to be a farce of the highest order, Surber notes.

  • Even Thomas Edison couldn’t figure out how to make a useful electric car.
  • The problem the Volt is aimed at “fixing” is problematic because global warming is a farce.
  • Even if global warming did exist, this “fix” is bad because it uses electricity that is generated by fossil fuels anyway.
  • Worse, it takes tax money from us all to give it to the rich in a $7,500 tax credit. Apparently Most buyers of the Volt make $175,000 a year.

Spot on points, for sure. I’ll add one more to the list. It turns out the Chevy Volt gets the same number of hours on a charge that an electric car created in 1896 used to get! Now THAT is progress.

Seton Motley has more on GM’s “5-star safety car”: Powering Inferno: Chevy Volt and GM Going Down In Flames – Literally:

There were in April two Volt charcoal briquets.  GM said it wasn’t responsible.  And Volt proponents argued that we should wait to hear from experts before jumping to conclusions.

Fair enough.

Ok – a third Volt just recently immolated.  During the requested expert testing – while it was stored in a garage at a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) testing center.

And a fourth Volt just went up in flames in the garage of a Mooresville, North Carolina home.  Which led the local power company to issue a warning:

Duke Energy officials want anyone who has a charging station to stop using it until they know the devices are safe.

Again, we don’t yet know for sure that the Volt charging stations are to blame.  It may (also) be the batteries.

As GM themselves inadvertently indicated.

General Motors believes the (NHTSA) fire occurred because NHTSA did not drain the energy from the Volt’s battery following the (test) crash, which is a safety step the automaker recommends, GM spokesman Rob Peterson said.

So emergency personnel, arriving upon the scene of accidents involving a Volt, must add to their list of responsibilities – draining the stupid electric car batteries?

Yes.

The fire’s cause – the battery puncture — led to questions about whether other automakers require batteries to be discharged of their energy following major crashes, the NHTSA official said. In addition, regulators are exploring protocols for who would do that – firefighters who respond first, for instance – and how quickly should they do it.

So said crisis workforce may have to prioritize draining Volt batteries above other things – like saving victims’ lives.

Emergency personnel may have to save drivers and passengers from their car batteries – before they save them from their injuries.

If they are able to do so before the batteries burst into flames.

Fantastic.

GOP Follies: Romney’s Flip Flops and Cain’s Flame

First the flip flops – this four minute long compilation is exhaustive and damning, and precisely why I’ve never cottoned to this guy:

As for Cain – ugh – game over, dude, GAME OVAH: Georgia Woman Claims 13-Year Affair with Herman Cain:

- An Atlanta businesswoman is breaking her silence, claiming she has been involved in a 13-year-long affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell sat down with Ginger White, who had a story to tell.

“I’m not proud,” White told Russell. “I didn’t want to come out with this. I did not.”

White was worried a political tsunami was headed her way. So, she decided to head it off, by confessing she was involved in a 13-year-long affair with presidential hopeful Herman Cain.

“It was pretty simple,” White said. “It wasn’t complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”

Ginger White says she met Herman Cain in the late 90s in Louisville, Kentucky, when as president of the National Restaurant Association, he made a presentation. She was impressed. She says they shared drinks afterwards and he invited her back to his hotel room.

“’I’d like to see you again,’” White said Cain told her. “’You are beautiful to me, and I would love for us to continue this friendship.’”

She says in his hotel room, he pulled out a calendar and invited her to meet him in Palm Springs. She accepted, and she says the affair began.

“He made it very intriguing,” White told FOX 5. “It was fun. It was something that took me away from my humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting.”

She says he gave her his newly-published book, Leadership is Common Sense, and he wrote: “Miss G, you have already made a ‘big difference!’ Stay focused as you pursue your next destination.”

She says during the next 13 years, he would fly her to cities where he was speaking and he lavished her with gifts. She says they often stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead and dined at The Four Seasons restaurant. She says he never harassed her, never treated her poorly, and was the same man you see on the campaign trail.

“Very much the same, very much confident, very much sure of himself,” White said, describing Cain. “Very arrogant in a playful sometimes way. Very, ah — Herman Cain loves Herman Cain.”

When his new book, CEO of SELF, came out in 2001, she says Cain once again autographed it for her writing, “Friends are forever! Everything else is a bonus.”

When asked if it was fair to say the relationship is going on even now, White said, “I think it is safe to say that after this interview, that will be the end of it. Yes, we have a friendship now.”

Cain’s statement about the affair, here.

That’s enough for me. Even though this was consensual, it puts all of his denials about his past alleged sexual misconduct into question as far as I’m concerned.

Gingrich should get a pretty decent bump out of this.

UPDATE:

Verum Serum has video of Cain responding to allegations of the affair on CNN.

I’m not impressed. I think at this point we should be thanking The Politico for getting the ball rolling on the vetting process for Cain, and those of us who slammed their writers for penning a “hit piece”  should be offering them our sincerest apologies. Yes, a double standard exists, but I’d rather know this stuff about our candidates before the general – not after.

UPDATE II:

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that this latest “eruption” also has a checkered past:

We received a phone tip from someone who knew Ginger White. That person claimed Ms. White was having an affair with Herman Cain. The tipster also called a number of other national media outlets who reached out to her. White told FOX 5, she felt trapped.

“I wanted to give my side, before it was thrown out there and made out to be something filthy,” said White. “Some people will look at this and say that is exactly what it is. I’m sorry for that.”

And so she talked. Before our interview, we checked into Ginger White’s background. We found she filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001. That case was settled.

We also found a bankruptcy filing nearly 23 years ago in Kentucky, and a number of eviction notices here in DeKalb County over the past six years. The most recent happened this month.

Ms. White says she has been unemployed, and she is a single mom with two kids struggling to make ends meet.

***

We also found a lawsuit filed by a former business partner, Kimberly Vay, who once sought a “stalking temporary protective order” against Ms. White for “repeated e-mails/texts threatening lawsuit and defamation of character.” The case was dismissed; but was followed by a libel lawsuit against Ms. White. A judge entered an order in favor of Kimberly Vay because Ms. White failed to respond to the lawsuit.

When asked why, under those circumstances, her claims against Cain should be believed, White said, “Because I admit it. Whatever happened with Kim happened. Just as there would make no sense for me to come out with these allegations against Herman if it absolutely wasn’t true.”

Her attorney, Ed Buckley, says she didn’t answer the lawsuit because she didn’t know about it, and she thought her business dispute had been settled with negotiations.

Ginger White says she expects to be scrutinized and attacked by Herman Cain and the media, but she felt she needed to tell her story before anyone else told it for her.

“I didn’t want to do this, but it was something I felt at the end of the day was the right thing to do,” said White. “Is it going to hurt a lot people? Yes. I’m sure I will be one of them.”

The White House Visitor Log Document Dump

You probably missed it because it happened on Black Friday when most people’s minds were on other things.

It didn’t escape Michelle Malkin’s notice, though.

On Black Friday, the White House released more visitor log info — trumpeting disclosures it has fought tooth and nail.

I’ve started looking through the data. And you can, too, right here (suggestion: click on the release date and arrange with newest entries first – they’re dated 11/22/2011):

A couple of things that jumped out at Michelle:

This August 5, 2011 visit to the president by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and her party of 7 (click for full size)

She made no mention of the visit on her Aug. 5 show. What did she and POTUS discuss? Just wondering…

Fun fact: According to the White House logs, this was Maddow’s fifth trip to the White House — and fourth to see the president personally.

Maddow’s specialty is making outrageous, false and hence libelous claims about conservatives, and then chirpily issuing corrections only when called out, (unless she’s too embarrassed to show up when the truth finally catches up to her liberal fantasies.)

Rachel’s a good little apparatchik who probably makes these visits to see how she can better serve her master.

Another busy bee: Convicted felon, Huffington Post/Alinskyite agitator, and husband of Illinois Democrat Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Robert Creamer.

According to the newly released records, Creamer was at the White House five times in August 2011 meeting with various officials, including Jon Carson, Cecilia Munoz, and Stephanie Cutter. He’s listed nearly 60 times in visitor logs since the start of the administration.

Well isn’t that special? Robert Creamer - ring a bell?

  • Served 5 months in prison (and 11 months in house arrest) for tax evasion and bank fraud
  • While in prison, he wrote a book that later served as a blueprint for Democrat proposals for universal health care.
  • Calls for the “democratization of wealth” in America, and for “progressive control of governments around the world”
  • Advocates amnesty for illegal aliens

Born in 1948, Robert Creamer is the husband of Democrat Rep. Jan Schakowsky. He formerly served as executive director of the Illinois Public Action Fund (where his wife was the program director), and subsequently as a leader of Citizen Action/Illinois. He was also a lobbyist for George Soros’s Open Society Institute. Today Creamer heads the Strategic Consulting Group, a political consultancy whose list of clients includes ACORN, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the AFL-CIO, the United Steelworkers Union of America, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and dozens of other leftist or Democratic Party state organizations.

Pursuant to an FBI investigation, Creamer in 2006 was indicted for bank fraud and tax evasion. During his trial, he received some 200 letters of support from such notables as Richard Durbin, Carol Browner, Jesse Jackson, and David Axelrod. Creamer ultimately was sentenced to five months in federal prison plus eleven months of house arrest. Upon his sentencing, he publicly pledged: “For the rest of my life I will continue to do whatever I can to work for social and economic justice.”

While incarcerated — or on “forced sabbatical,” as he called it — Creamer wrote a 628-page political manual titled Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win (published in 2007). In the Acknowledgements section of the book, Creamer stated that his political views had been deeply influenced by “the legendary community organizer” Saul Alinsky.

Stand Up Straight! advanced the notion that the Democratic Party could win a permanent majority in Congress by doing the following:

  • passing a national health care bill, thereby turning more people into wards of an ever-expanding government, and of the party that works to grow government; and
  • giving amnesty to all illegal immigrants, thereby creating, virtually  overnight, a large new constituency of Democratic voters.

The author conceded that his desire “to reshape the structure of one-sixth of the American economy” (i.e., the health care sector) was contingent upon the Democrats being able to control 60 votes in the U.S. Senate, and upon the election of a “progressive Democrat” to the White House – conditions that could, in Creamer’s estimation, be achieved by the year 2009. Notably, his book was effusive in its praise of then-Senator Barack Obama.

Creamer’s book advocated a “public plan” that would guarantee every U.S. resident’s “right” to health care; this plan eventually would serve as a model for the “public option” in subsequent legislative proposals by Congressional Democrats.

This guy visited five times in August alone, and sixty times since Obama’s election. Amazing. He and the President must have some things in common – i.e. a fondness for Saul Alinsky, the “democratization of wealth” in America, and for “progressive control of governments around the world”. I wonder if he’s also a golfing buddy.

As Malkin notes, it’s up to conservatives to  “crowd-source” the White House visitor log data, as WaPo and the NYTimes can’t be bothered with such trivialities. We’re not talking about mining for dirt in Sarah Palin’s private emails, or anything.

UPDATE!:

Ho! Doug Ross found something….Red Alert: Deputy AG Behind Fast and Furious Met With President Obama Four Times During The Height Of The Operation:

Item 1: In March of 2011, President Obama denied knowledge of ‘Operation Fast and Furious’ — the Justice Department program that sent thousands of murder weapons to Mexican drug cartels.

Item 2: According to documents obtained by the House Judiciary Committee, Deputy Attorney General Gary Grindler was keenly aware of all aspects of Operation Fast and Furious as early as March 2010. In a letter to A.G. Holder, Chairman Issa wrote… (hit link for rest.)

Item 3: Newly released White House Visitor Logs list Grindler as having visited the White House 40 times, but only four times with the President himself. All four meetings with the President occurred over a two-week period, between 7 May 2010 and 19 May 2010.

Gay Patriot notes the galling double standard as a Washington Post reporter  “crowdsources” for dirt on Newt on Twitter: Did Washington Post ever look for outlandish/incorrect predictions and quotes from Barack Obama’s past?

Think about the profound impact and historical significance of being the reporter who nails down the Obama White House’s involvement in Fast and Furious. Your work would contribute to an epic house cleaning not only in the White House, but the DOJ, and ATF which need a complete fumigation. The impact would be felt for years to come.

But would that help The Party? No – Must. Stop. Newt….must. protect. Precious….

“Does Obama Really Want To Win?” (Is The Pope Catholic?)

Joseph Curl of The Washington Times asks the question – “Does Obama really want to win?”

There are only two ways to look at the Obama re-election campaign right now: Either the upstart candidate who stunned the world when he defeated the Clinton machine to capture the Democratic nomination three years ago has lost every bit of that massive mojo, or the bruised and battered president, after three years in office, just doesn’t want another spin in the Oval Office.

How else to explain the nonstop missteps, the stammering and stuttering campaign, not to mention the brazen attacks on American voters, who, he has said, have “fallen behind,” lost their “ambition and imagination,” gotten “lazy” and “a bit soft” – this is a guy seeking the support of America?!

For the past 36 months, Americans have hoped for the best. But it hasn’t turned out that way. In fact, some argue that Mr. Obama actually made the economy worse – the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said last week that his 2009 stimulus package may have sustained as few as 700,000 jobs at its peak and that over the long run it will be a net drag on the economy.

But then, this. The president, traveling the country purportedly to look for votes in 2012, decided to lecture the American people on their shortcomings: fat, lazy, stupid. And now, he’s channeling – of all people – Jimmy Carter.

Given all of the President’s missteps, Curl is leaning toward the ” he just doesn’t want another spin in the Oval Office” side.

Chris Matthews recently bellowed, “he (Obama) has not said one thing about what he would do in the second term.” Curl assures us that is “because he doesn’t really want one. And Americans seem ready to oblige.”

Yea! The end of an error.

And yet -  at the possibility Obama could step aside to let Hillary run in his stead, (as some are suggesting), Curl said: “Of course, Mr. Obama’s hubris will not allow such a move.” His hubris would not allow the Hillary ploy, but it would somehow allow for  his crushing defeat in 2012?

I don’t think so.

All the signs I’m seeing say Obama is going for broke. He wants to win, and he wants to win badly. He’s in constant campaign mode – demagoguing instead of leading – a strategy Charles Krauthammer called “brilliant” during the debt ceiling squabbles, last summer:

President Obama assailed the lesser mortals who inhabit Congress for not having seriously dealt with a problem he had not dealt with at all, then scolded Congress for being even less responsible than his own children. They apparently get their homework done on time.

My compliments. But the Republican House did do its homework. It’s called a budget. It passed the House on April 15. The Democratic Senate has produced no budget. Not just this year, but for two years running. As for the schoolmaster-in-chief, he produced two 2012 budget facsimiles: The first (February) was a farce and the second (April) was empty, dismissed by the CBO as nothing but words untethered to real numbers.

Obama has run disastrous annual deficits of around $1.5 trillion while insisting for months on a “clean” debt-ceiling increase, (i.e. with no budget cuts at all). Yet suddenly he now rises to champion major long-term debt reduction, scorning any suggestions of a short-term debt-limit deal as can-kicking.

The flip-flop is transparently political. A short-term deal means another debt-ceiling fight before Election Day, a debate that would put Obama on the defensive and distract from the Mediscare campaign to which the Democrats are clinging to save them in 2012.

A clever strategy it is: Do nothing (see above); invite the Republicans to propose real debt reduction first; and when they do — voting for the Ryan budget and its now infamous and courageous Medicare reform — demagogue them to death.

And then up the ante by demanding Republican agreement to tax increases. So: First you get the GOP to seize the Left’s third rail by daring to lay a finger on entitlements. Then you demand the GOP seize the Right’s third rail by violating its no-tax pledge. A full-spectrum electrocution. Brilliant.

We see Obama’s non-stop fund-raising tour, his  “dinner with Barack” raffle tickets for $3.00 a pop,  the  “Made in the USA” Mugs and Tee Shirts sale and even  fund-raising through intimidation:

The Obama campaign is testing a new approach to fundraising, blasting out emails that ever-so-gently shame supporters into donating.

Before the end of the third-quarter fundraising deadline last month, the campaign sent around specially tailored messages to those on their email list who hadn’t yet contributed to President Obama’s 2012 reelection fund. Campaign Manager Jim Messina urged them to chip in, by pointing out how many of their neighbors had already done so.

And surely we haven’t already forgotten the President’s lavish and unseemly birthday/fund-raising bash, last August?

Then there’s Axelrod’s underhanded maneuverings in Chicago – his dirty pawprints all over the Herman Cain sexual harassment smear:
Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country — Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. — but never in Chicago. So it’s curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O’Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley’s chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain’s short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he’s alleged to have been a sexual predator.

It’s been four weeks since Politico broke the story of accusations against Herman Cain

After hundreds of articles at Politico, what do we know about the specific evidence against Herman Cain which gave rise to Politico’s original reporting?: Nothing. Truly incredible.

Obama halted deportations by Executive fiat, last August, in a move that the cynical among us see has helpful toward his reelection:
Hispanic voters are a key voter bloc as Mr. Obama seeks re-election next year, but many of them felt he broke his promise to them to work on legislation once he took office. Thursday’s move already was paying dividends as Hispanic advocacy groups praised the steps.
Every move Obama makes, now,  is designed to frame the debate for his reelection.

As Krauthammer says, “Everything he does is about campaigning. He gave up the governance phase of this term about three months ago.”

Curl may be  confusing Obama’s purported lack of political ambition with his  oft-noted “depression”, and the fact that he’s not a “people person”, (as beltway insiders now openly  attest .) Obama is a narcissistic Marxist with a sad, and dysfunctional background – of course he’s a little unstable — or seriously disturbed according to psychologist, Robin from Berkeley:

…Obama will not change. He will not learn from his mistakes. He will not grow and mature from on-the-job experience. In fact, over time, Obama will likely become a more ferocious version of who he is today.

Why? Because this is a damaged person. Obama’s fate was sealed years ago growing up in his strange and poisonous family. Later on, his empty vessel was filled with the hateful bile of men like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers.

Obama will not evolve; he will not rise to the occasion; he will not become the man he was meant to be. This is for one reason and one reason alone:

He is not capable of it.

If that’s not enough to put a chill up your spine, there’s also this: Obama likes to tell his fund-raising audiences that he’s only about 60% done enacting the “transformational change” he promised us in 2008:

“A lot of the things that we promised we’d do, we’ve done,” Obama said, citing healthcare reform and ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy preventing gay men and women from serving openly in the U.S. military.

“I carry around a little checklist, and I think we’ve got about 60 percent of it done so far. And that’s not bad for three years, because I need another five.”

Any thoughts that he’s not serious about winning in 2012 is wishful thinking at best.

PJ Media: For 2012, Be Wary of Obama’s Ties to Corrupt Project Vote The ACORN affiliate has been repeatedly convicted of voter fraud.

Despite the corrupt and fraudulent activities of ACORN and Project Vote, President Obama has already dubbed the voter registration part of his 2012 campaign as … “Project Vote.” This is not surprising, given his history with Project Vote.

As an alert reader of PJ Media discovered, former state Senator Barack Obama made a great deal of his relationship with Project Vote when he was running for Congress. He ran a one-minute radio ad about utility blackouts in which he bragged about having “headed up Project Vote, registering over 100,000 minority voters.” He ran a second radio ad about his taking on the health insurance industry where he again boasted of “working as a community organizer” and turning down high-paying corporate jobs after law school “to become a civil rights lawyer” and to “head up” Project Vote.

Obama was in on the ground floor when Project Vote was organized, and was proud of it in 2004.  Project Vote certainly returned the favor: all of the evidence indicates that Project Vote did everything it could to get Barack Obama elected in 2008, abusing its supposed nonprofit, nonpartisan status.

The testimony of former employees like Anita MonCrief also reveals that ACORN and Project Vote’s misfeasance is a longstanding problem. A question that has never been answered is how much Obama knew about (and was involved in) Project Vote’s misdeeds and internal policies when, as his ads claim, “he headed up” the organization.

Project Vote’s long history of lawlessness does not seem to have embarrassed the president, given he is using the same name for his election campaign’s voter registration project. The real question is whether Project Vote will get away with the same kind of abuses in the 2012 election, and whether the president’s campaign will be a willing partner.

Of course Liberals will tell you that voter fraud is just a figment of right-wing imaginations, so nothing to see here.
