Senator Grassley: “I think the Department of Justice is the Department of Injustice”

More Fast and Furious documents were released, Thursday, revealing that federal agents did have probable cause to arrest the biggest buyer of assault weapons in the Fast and Furious operation — a full eight months before Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s life was taken by a cartel member wielding one of those weapons.

William La Jeunesse of Fox News reports:

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, have demanded Attorney General Eric Holder provide a briefing as to why ringleader Manuel Celis Acosta was not arrested earlier given repeated evidence that he was running guns.

“I think the Department of Justice is the Department of Injustice,” Grassley said on Capitol Hill. “They can’t expect people to believe that they couldn’t arrest this guy.”

On April 2, 2010, Phoenix Police stopped Celis Acosta. In the car they found eight weapons, none of which were registered to him. At least one, a Colt .38, had been bought just a few days earlier by Uriel Patino, who had already bought 434 weapons in the previous six months.

It is illegal to buy a gun for anyone other than yourself. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has argued it did not have probable cause to arrest Patino or Celis Acosta. These new documents suggest they did, raising new doubts about the agency’s desire to actually bust the trafficking ring.

ATF managers have told Congress they could not arrest anyone because the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona would not allow it since agents lacked probable cause that a crime was committed. They also admit knowingly allowing some guns to be illegally purchased in order to further their investigation.

Many in Congress don’t buy it.

“If you find somebody carrying a massive number of guns across the border that you didn’t have reason to arrest them?” said Grassley. “That just doesn’t hold water as far as I am concerned. It doesn’t pass the laugh test.”

The reason there was no arrest is because the object of Fast and Furious was not to catch gunrunners or kingpins as should be abundantly clear, by now.
We know for a fact that Operation Fast and Furious was designed by the Obama administration to put American weapons in the hands of Mexican cartels to kill Mexican citizens, and that the guns recovered in those deaths would be used to call for more gun control.

Hundreds died in a plot that appears to have been designed to impose gun control. It’s past time for the appointment of an independent prosecutor, and to press for criminal charges against those responsible for the carnage that has resulted from the deadliest scandal in U.S. government history.

More than 100 Republicans in the House have signed a resolution asking for Holder to resign, the bare minimum of what he has coming to him.
For God’s sake – let the impeachment hearings begin, already.

  1. What else is “abundantly clear” is that Issa, Grassley and the rest of their committee are not interested in the least in making anyone pay for the criminal enterprise know as “Fast and Furious.”

Like the article says, there is abundant evidence to conclude this was a criminal enterprise. So what are our top legislative investigators doing about it?

  2. They want to drag this out a little longer because it’s an election year, and they’ve got them on the hook.

It sucks, but that’s what I hope is going on.

  3. And what’s wrong with dragging a trial out for those pieces of pig poop that are running the DoJ? I’m just a country boy that may or may not understand our fast-paced world, but it seems to me that it would be extremely difficult for the LSM to ignore trials, whereas one doesn’t hear a peep from them about all these hearings.

But, like I say, I’m just a country boy who doesn’t understand a lot of what’s going on now…
