Very simply put, it is about punishing those who are successful in a capitalist society.
And further, it isn’t even about raising “the poor” up from the depths of poverty. All liberal/leftist/statist/socialist policies are designed specifically to consolidate power to a relatively few elites. They (the policies) are no more, and no less.
And the further down the societal chain one is, the more destructive those policies are. That’s why black communities and inner cities are geometrically worse off now than before the “War on Poverty” – the “war” was on the people it was theoretically designed to help, not on poverty.
