The Narcissist in Chief Strikes Again

They just can’t help themselves. Look at all the drones who retweeted that.

In the insular world of the hard left – this is thought of as a “deft”, “snarky”, “cheeky” response from an administration that has always been “adept” at social media.

To me, and I think a lot of Americans – it looks petty and narcissistic. Why would the President want to get into a petty pissing match with a movie legend who is loved by Americans of all political stripes?

Last night was supposed to be Mitt’s night, but the Obama campaign thought it was a good idea to  blitz him with negative media,  and wedge SCOAMF into the spotlight.

President Barack Obama’s media team launched a huge wave of emails, tweets, videos and snark in the hours prior to Mitt Romney’s pivotal acceptance speech in Tampa, Fla., and then another wave as Romney spoke to the convention and to the nation’s voters.

Obama’s flacks even quoted articles from Rolling Stone.

The volume of material seemed intended to obscure, taint and distract from Romney’s carefully choreographed and emotional outreach to late-deciding swing voters, especially to women and Hispanics.

The Romney team’s all-angles outreach included the nominees’ home movies, testimonials from fellow Mormons, Clint Eastwood’s validation, Sen. Marco Rubio’s elegy to American exceptionalism and Romney’s own practiced speech.

Obama’s flood included 13 “FACT CHECK” emails, several videos, 10 emails from Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith and a stream of tweets from deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter; party spokesman Brad Woodhouse; super PAC executives Paul Begala and Bill Burton; and Obama strategist David Axelrod — even before Romney came on stage.

I’m not sure he could have pulled that off if he’d delivered a slick telepromptered pitch. As Mr. Hayward suggests, the hard lines packed more of a punch for being delivered in the midst of a Bob Newhart empty-chair shtick from the Dean Martin show circa 1968. Indeed, they were some of the hardest lines of the convention and may well prove the take-home (“We own this country . . . Politicians are employees of ours . . . And when somebody does not do the job, we’ve got to let them go”), but they seemed more effective for appearing to emerge extemporaneously from the general shambles.

The curse of political operatives is that they make everything the same. A guy smoothly reading platitudinous codswallop while rotating his head from the left-hand teleprompter to the right-hand teleprompter like clockwork as if he’s at Centre Court watching the world’s slowest Wimbledon rally is a very reductive idea of “professionalism.” Even politicians you’re well disposed to come across as slick bores in that format. Which is by way of saying Clint is too sharp and too crafty not to have known what he was doing.

Oh, and next time ’round, he should sing.

UPDATE II:

Ace: Clint Eastwood Killed, And The Media’s Not Going To Be Able To Present a Counter-Narrative:

Does he ramble? He sure does. But what is the problem with that? No, it’s not a political speech where every line is thought out and scrubbed and edited to an inch of its life, all for the purpose of delivering a precise message in a precise way. It’s Clint Eastwood offering his general, barely rehearsed political thoughts.

And so it rambles. And, when it’s not rambling, it kills. In fact, some rambles are hilarious, like when he suddenly remembers he wants to talk about attorneys and then gets wound up about that.

We’re dealing with the East German judges here. Clint Eastwood did a great routine with a few technical errors here and there, and the East German judges are offering a score of 1.4 out of 10.

And their hope is that if they just keep flashing that score over and over, they can influence the other judges.

Keep reading. As usual – Ace nails it.

The Sad and Tawdry Line-up for the Democrat Convention in Charlotte

Oh, this is fun. I was wondering who the Democrats were going to have speaking at the Obamacrat Convention. The smarter ones are staying away.  That leaves hardcore progs from deep blue districts and other assorted Obama loyalists and hangers on.

Check out this “murderers row” as Ace calls it:

Seriously?! Where are the beloved leaders of the party -  Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? (See update.) No Hillary?! Most of the names l recognize are toxic progs like Sebelius, Barbara Lee, Gov. O’Malley, Barbara Mikulski and Salazar or repugnant has beens like  Jimmah, BJ, and Lurch, not to mention one reviled political opportunist, Charlie Crist, and one very unappealing vagina advocate, Sandra Fluke. The icing on the cake of course is that the hostess of this mess will be the deeply unappealing Debbie Wasserman Schultz – (with relaxed curls and massive amounts of stage makeup.) What a train wreck.

Compare to the RNC all-star line-up:

Tuesday, August 28

Wednesday, August 29

Thursday, August 30

All said, I fully expect to see plenty of “surprise” guests added to the DNC program to make up for the dearth of excitement in their scheduled speakers. Keep in mind, team O is acutely aware that they have to win the youth vote, and the ignoramus vote in huge numbers, so plenty of razzle-dazzle is in order. Hollywood is all in for Obama, so I expect to see some hip, young, A-list stars. I also suspect he’ll have an Olympic gold medalist or two from this years’ games.

UPDATE:

The list has gotten a little sadder and tawdrier since I posted this, yesterday. Looks like beloved Dems, Reid and Pelosi will be speaking, after all!

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will also lead a presentation of the women of the House:

Hooboy…

Congressman David Price of North Carolina

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada

Correction! Obama Does Send Out Personal Letters of Condolence

If you’re a member of a preferred constituency, that is.

Yesterday, Gateway Pundit reported an ugly truth shocked the right wing blogosphere: Parents of Fallen SEAL Members got FORM LETTERS From Obama – Not Even Personally Signed By Him.

Hoft has another scoop, today:

Priorities.
Last November Barack Obama sent a personal letter of condolence when rapper Heavy D passed away at 44.

The most touching part?

Al Sharpton read the note at the funeral.

Nothing against Heavy D. Never heard of him til now, and my sincere condolences to his family for his untimely loss.

This is just an obvious case of very offensive and unbalanced priorities on the President’s part. I don’t have a problem with Obama sending a personal letter of condolence to a rapper, if he is able to maintain the same standard for our fallen troops. But he isn’t.

It’s no wonder that several Military PACs have popped up to defeat this disgraceful, FUBAR President.

Special Operations Speaks:

Mission Statement:

We, as veterans, legatees, and supporters of the Special Operations communities of all the Armed Forces, have noted with dismay and deep alarm the recent stream of highly damaging leaks of information about various aspects of America’s shadow war in the overall War on Terror.  Our principles are the same as when we were in active service — Duty, Honor, Country.

Our goals are:

  • To emphasize the pressing need for the nation and its representatives to understand the value of our Constitution and actively support a return to its application in all phases of government;
  • To illuminate the failed operational security environment of the Administration and to provide the public with accurate information about these repeated releases of highly classified information;
  • To restore accountability in government and with it the trust in our government that We The People deserve and demand.

Special Operations for America:

Mission Statement:

  • Special Operations for America (SOFA) is committed to a strong and independent military that is capable of defending America’s freedoms and interests.
  • SOFA is dedicated to restoring strong leadership to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and those senior officials appointed by the President.
  • SOFA believes in American exceptionalism along with leadership that does not minimize American greatness or politicize military achievements for personal gain.
  • SOFA pledges to accurately address issues that affect our military and those core threats to National Security.
  • SOFA will identify and provide accurate information on policies that harm or discredit our national security and those who bravely protect us.

OPSEC.

Mission Statement:

STOP the politicians, President Obama and others, from politically capitalizing on US national security operations and secrets!

EDUCATE the public on the importance and necessity of Operational Security in today’s environment.

To Do Nothing is not an option as that allows the special operations and intelligence capabilities to be degraded, and paraded around like a show dog…ACTION IS REQUIRED NOW!

Veterans of a Strong America

America is safe – when America is strong.Veterans for a Strong America is a non-partisan action organization dedicated to educating the public, members of Congress and the Executive Branch about our 5 Step Mission to make America Strong:
  • We must grow the world’s strongest, most robust economy and cut spending in order to reduce the National Debt
  • We must strengthen and modernize America’s Military so that no adversary will even contemplate a challenge to our security and safety
  • We must Implement a common-sense national energy policy that will power America into the 21st century
  • We must re-build our intelligence community in order to prevent another 9-11
  • We must design a legal framework that allows America’s law enforcement agencies to prosecute terrorism on a global battlefield

It should also not be a surprise that he has added these patriotic Special Op Groups To his enemies list.

Damage Control: Team O “Factchecks” Paul Ryan With Lies – Media Plays Along (Video)

As predictable as the sun rising in the East.

The MSM had their marching orders from Team O, last night, so they were prepared to dispute specific points Paul Ryan made in his speech. As Guy Benson notes, very likely media outfits received a lot of angry emails from the Obama campaign purporting to “fact-check” Paul Ryan. Sadly, they ran with Team O’s “factchecks” without factchecking the factchecks. But the Obama shills in the  Democrat media complex know the truth doesn’t matter. It’s the initial impression they make on Obama’s base and the undecideds that matters. People who still haven’t made up their minds by this point are not ones to go digging for the truth. They hear the “Ryan is a liar” soundbites on their way to the Entertainment channel or Bravo.

Still, Benson’s point by point dismantling of the ad’s “rebuttals” is worth reading.

Moe Lane has some additional thoughts on Why the Left freaked out about Paul Ryan telling the truth about the Janesville closing.

There was a GM plant in Janesville.  Barack Obama did make a speech there in 2008.  He did, in that speech, make those comments*.  And the plant did not “last another year” – despite, I should note, the Obama administration’s bailout of GM that the administration is kind-of, sort-of touting as an ‘achievement.’  These are all true things; which has not kept the Left from screaming otherwise, to the point where the Obama campaign has officially (and in my opinion, unwisely) called Paul Ryan a liar.

He concludes:

…instead of simply gritting their teeth and taking the hit, the Democratic Establishment is trying to incite its base by calling something true a lie.  Which to me suggests that the Left – specifically, the Obama for America team – is simultaneously utterly contemptuous of its own base’s ability to reason, and quietly terrified that said base might eventually wise up to the fact that it’s being taken for the Mother Of All Rides.

A point I’ve made here a number of times. Obama has no respect for his own base. And why should he?

Here’s the “smoking gun video from April 2009 that puts the lie to Team O’s deception:

UPDATE:

Weasel Zippers: Flashback: Obama Twice Promised To Keep Janesville GM Plant Open…

UPDATE II:

@jackmcoldcuts at AoSHQ asks what would Breibart do? (Feeling deep pangs of the loss right now – he is so needed.)

As readers of this fine blog know (see Andy’s piece below), the media has been caught using Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina’s lying tweets in a desperate, implausible and self-defeating attempt to smear Paul Ryan.

From mere seconds after the close of Ryan’s phenomenal address, Obama’s broken promise of a “100 YEAR FACTORY” to the workers of the Janesville GM Plant and the people of Wisconsin has been the hill on which the MSM has chosen to die. The media, like the Obama administration, has decided that this is another instance in which the only way to excuse a clear Obama failure is by forcing their viewers to drink heavily from the nearly dry “blame Bush” well in the hopes that a blackout will ensue. Hence their despiration to make the 2008 closing date stick, despite the clear fact that it closed under Obama’s economic “stewardship”, and contrary to his promises, in 2009.

This presents an opportunity that I encourage Romney/Ryan to take. And if Andrew Brietbart were alive, I think he’d be all over it too. Because Andrew Brietbart knew better than anyone how to take a false and empty media narrative and turn it against them.

Video: Paul Ryan Rocks the RNC

Reportedly, Paul Ryan worked on his speech for weeks, and it was a doozy. While it was a serious speech, he managed to zing Obama several times throughout, but as Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News afterward, it was “done more in sorrow than in anger”. It was a smart speech that addressed Medicare head on as only the wonkish Ryan can. We can already predict the unserious demagoguery the Obamacrats are going to deploy in Charlotte, next week, and it will fun to make a contrast.

Paul Ryan is sincere. He means what he says. Obama and the rest of the Dems Socialists who still stand with him will have nothing but scaremongering and lies to offer in Charlotte, and Obama’s lies are getting less convincing with each telling.

Part I

Part II

Part III

Videos via

Full prepared remarks of Paul Ryan’s RNC speech, here.

My favorite lines from the speech:

With all their attack ads, the president is just throwing away money — and he’s pretty experienced at that. You see, some people can’t be dragged down by the usual cheap tactics, because their ability, character, and plain decency are so obvious — and ladies and gentlemen, that is Mitt Romney.

President Barack Obama came to office during an economic crisis, as he has reminded us a time or two. (zing!)

The stimulus was a case of political patronage, corporate welfare, and cronyism at their worst. You, the working men and women of this country, were cut out of the deal. What did the taxpayers get out of the Obama stimulus? More debt. That money wasn’t just spent and wasted — it was borrowed, spent, and wasted.

Obamacare comes to more than two thousand pages of rules, mandates, taxes, fees, and fines that have no place in a free country.

So our opponents can consider themselves on notice. In this election, on this issue, the usual posturing on the Left isn’t going to work. Mitt Romney and I know the difference between protecting a program, and raiding it. Ladies and gentlemen, our nation needs this debate. We want this debate. We will win this debate.

It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new. Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind.

President Obama was asked not long ago to reflect on any mistakes he might have made. He said, well, “I haven’t communicated enough.” He said his job is to “tell a story to the American people” — as if that’s the whole problem here? He needs to talk more, and we need to be better listeners?

Ladies and gentlemen, these past four years we have suffered no shortage of words in the White House. What’s missing is leadership in the White House. And the story that Barack Obama does tell, forever shifting blame to the last administration, is getting old. The man assumed office almost four years ago — isn’t it about time he assumed responsibility?

My Mom started a small business, and I’ve seen what it takes. Mom was 50 when my Dad died. She got on a bus every weekday for years, and rode 40 miles each morning to Madison. She earned a new degree and learned new skills to start her small business. It wasn’t just a new livelihood. It was a new life. And it transformed my Mom from a widow in grief to a small businesswoman whose happiness wasn’t just in the past. Her work gave her hope. It made our family proud. And to this day, my Mom is my role model.

President Obama is the kind of politician who puts promises on the record, and then calls that the record.

College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.

None of us have to settle for the best this administration offers — a dull, adventureless journey from one entitlement to the next, a government-planned life, a country where everything is free but us.

We’re a full generation apart, Governor Romney and I. And, in some ways, we’re a little different. There are the songs on his iPod, which I’ve heard on the campaign bus and on many hotel elevators. He actually urged me to play some of these songs at campaign rallies. I said, I hope it’s not a deal-breaker Mitt, but my playlist starts with AC/DC, and ends with Zeppelin.

Each of these great moral ideas is essential to democratic government — to the rule of law, to life in a humane and decent society. They are the moral creed of our country, as powerful in our time, as on the day of America’s founding. They are self-evident and unchanging, and sometimes, even presidents need reminding, that our rights come from nature and God, not from government.

Democrat Media Complex is Just Showing its Mob-like Tendencies

Ann Coulter called it a couple of weeks ago. She told Megyn Kelly in a rare appearance on America Live, that The Democratic Party gets especially mob-like during an election”.

You will notice how they are always using images and not talking about facts like how Medicare will be bankrupt for anyone 45 years old or younger. It’s always ‘the Republicans want to put y’all in chains’ or ‘Bush drove the car into the ditch’ … Could we have actual facts?”

Host Megyn Kelly played a soundbite of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews saying that Republicans are “divisive” because of “nastiness” within the party, like “racists” criticizing food stamps and welfare, or “birthers” questioning the president’s birthplace.

“Any criticism of a Democratic policy is considered a personal attack,” Coulter shot back. “Welfare and food stamps are policies Obama has. He altered the 1996 welfare reform which was the requirement of work. … They have jettisoned the work requirement. That’s what Democrats call a below-the-belt ad while Biden is saying Republicans want to put black people back in chains? That’s supposed to be comparable?”

“Republicans are terrified people won’t understand what they are saying,” she added. “Democrats are terrified people will understand what they are saying. That’s why they talk in images and myths and slogans. And that works on a crowd.”

What we are watching in real time at the Republican convention is the Democratic media complex doing  its best to peddle myths and slogans to the ignorant mob.

Robert Stacy McCain summed it up quite nicely in his article for the American Spectator: The Exact Opposite of Truth

If you’ve been following major media coverage of the Republican National Convention, you know that the party’s presidential candidate is Todd Akin, who will campaign this fall on a platform of undiluted hatred and evil, with the able assistance of his running mate, Martin Bormann Jr. The Akin-Bormann ticket was personally selected by RNC Chairman Rush Limbaugh and endorsed by Karl Rove after consultation with a secretive cabal of right-wing Mormon billionaires. The Republican delegates who are assembling this week in Tampa are mere dupes hired by the Koch brothers to provide the superficial appearance of a “political convention” debating a platform and nominating candidates.

He left out the left’s absolute favoritest theme this election season: Republican raaaaacism.

Doug Ross picks up where he left off with  “A Conclave of Lily-White Racists”.

I refer, of course, to vintage media — the biggest collection of lily-white racists I’ve ever encountered. Consider the following incidents (all “coincidental”, mind you):

NBC and MSNBC inexcusably censored every… single… African-American and Latino who spoke at yesterday’s Republican convention — including two of the best speeches of the night, those of Mia Love and Artur Davis — in a move reminiscent of a modern-day Invisible Man

Chris Matthews openly expressed his inexcusable belief that only blacks are on foodstamps

ABC News broadcast Yahoo’s Washington bureau chief asserting that the Romneys “are happy to have a party [i.e., the convention] when black people drown”, presumably as a severe storm threatens the Gulf Coast

• And blatant coordination between the Democrat National Committee and old media — including The Los Angeles Times, Politico, and other outlets — appears intended to de-legitimize and dehumanize any minority who dares stand up to the Statist agenda

So what exactly is going on here?

Chairman Ann in her excellent tome, Demonic (essential reading), again has the answer:

Unable to win elections by appealing to the racist mob, the anti-civil rights wing of the Democratic Party disappeared virtually overnight. In the blink of an eye, the Democrats went from being the Party of Bull Connor to being the Party of Al Sharpton. The Democrats simply traded one mob constituency for a new one.

At the RNC in 2012 they are alternating between appealing to the the racialist mob and the feminist mob. That’s all. The same ol’ same ol’ but  on steroids this time around because they know their guy is LOSING.

Repulsive: Newly Released Emails Reveal how Obama Backed bin Laden Film to ‘Bask in the Glory’ and Win Reelection

Via Dan Riehl, The Daily Mail offers up another example of how the British media is willing to go where the US media, in their efforts to protect their precious one, won’t. The Obama administration’s collusion with makers of Zero Dark Thirty’ is galling to members of  the Special Op community who are already appalled at the amount of credit Obama has taken for himself for the killing of bin Laden.

The Obama administration gave its full backing to the official film version of the raid to kill Osama bin Laden in apparent attempt to give the President a pre-election boost.

Newly released documents and emails show that as far back as June last year the CIA thought ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ would be a ‘winning horse’ and gave classified briefings to director Kathryn Bigelow.

The film’s screenwriter Mark Boal also was allowed to make ‘deep dives’ into sensitive information to shape the script as intelligence officials developed a back-slapping and chummy relationship with him.

***

The revelation is likely to further anger the Navy SEALs who carried out the raid, some of whom are already furious with Obama for trying to claim too much credit for the assassination of the al-Qaeda leader.

In one email a senior CIA official boasted: ‘I can’t tell you how excited we all are about the project’ — and apparently vows to keep quiet about free tickets to the premiere.

The White House got in on the act as well, making it explicit it wanted to ‘have visibility’ so it could bask in the glory.

“It is just so unbelievably emotional to be with the families, for everybody involved. I mean for us and for them and for everyone,” she said in a telephone interview with The Times on Saturday. “I’m very aware of how emotional it is and how draining it is for the president and for me, too. Both of us. But I think we do support each other, not by saying anything so much, but just by the comfort of each other’s presence, both when we are with the families and then afterward when we are alone.”

Oh, sorry – did that seem out of place?

That’s because I was quoting Laura Bush from an interview with The Washington Times, 12/2008: EXCLUSIVE: Bush, Cheney comforted troops privately:

Mr. Bush, for instance, has sent personal letters to the families of every one of the more than 4,000 troops who have died in the two wars, an enormous personal effort that consumed hours of his time and escaped public notice. The task, along with meeting family members of troops killed in action, has been so wrenching – balancing the anger, grief and pride of families coping with the loss symbolized by a flag-draped coffin – that the president often leaned on his wife, Laura, for emotional support.

“I lean on the Almighty and Laura,” Mr. Bush said in the interview. “She has been very reassuring, very calming.”

Mr. Bush also has met privately with more than 500 families of troops killed in action and with more than 950 wounded veterans, according to White House spokesman Carlton Carroll. Many of those meetings were outside the presence of the news media at the White House or at private sessions during official travel stops, officials said.

The first lady said those private visits, many of which she also attended, took a heavy emotional toll, not just on the president, but on her as well.

Then there’s Obama, who is all about making his “gutsy call”  oh-so very visible’ so he can bask in the glory.
The Judicial Watch report is here.

In addition to Judicial Watch’s pursuit of the bin Laden film records, the organization continues to fight in court for the release of post-mortem images of bin Laden and the alleged burial at sea. The Obama administration continues to withhold these records citing national security concerns.

“These new documents provide more backing to the serious charge that the Obama administration played fast and loose with national security information to help Hollywood filmmakers,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “No wonder we’ve had to fight one year of stonewalling from the administration.  These new documents show there is no doubt that Obama White House was intensely interested in this film that was set to portray President Obama as ‘gutsy.’”

Good God: Parents of Fallen SEAL Members got FORM LETTERS From Obama – Not Even Personally Signed By Him

My disgust for this abysmal “Commander in Chief” is so off the charts it can not be measured quantifiably.

On August 6, 2011, in an accident many say should never have happened, 30 US service members were killed in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter crash in the  Wardak province, Afghanistan. It is considered a breach of standard operating procedure to put a huge team of special ops into a National Guard Chinook. The operational procedures are designed to avoid losses like this. The families of these soldiers have not only never received an explanation for this breach. They didn’t even get so much as a handwritten letter of condolence from the President.

Gateway Pundit (link fixed) has the exclusive from Tampa:

It was the deadliest single loss for U.S. forces in the decade-long war in Afghanistan. 17 members of the elite Navy SEALs were killed in the crash.

Yesterday, Karen and Billy Vaughn, parents of Aaron Carson Vaughn, spoke at the Defending the Defenders forum sponsored by the Tea Party Patriots outside the RNC Convention in Tampa. Karen brought a copy of the form letter they were sent following their son’s death.

It was a form letter:

It was signed by an electric pen.

After Karen Vaughn reached out to the parents of the other SEALs killed in that crash, she discovered that their letters were identical.

This excellent 12/2008 Washington Times article about how Bush and  Cheney comforted troops privately bears repeating: EXCLUSIVE: Bush, Cheney comforted troops privately:

For much of the past seven years, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have waged a clandestine operation inside the White House. It has involved thousands of military personnel, private presidential letters and meetings that were kept off their public calendars or sometimes left the news media in the dark.

Their mission: to comfort the families of soldiers who died fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and to lift the spirits of those wounded in the service of their country.

On Monday, the president is set to make a more common public trip – with reporters in tow – to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, home to many of the wounded and a symbol of controversy earlier in his presidency over the quality of care the veterans were receiving.

But the size and scope of Mr. Bush’s and Mr. Cheney’s private endeavors to meet with wounded soliders and families of the fallen far exceed anything that has been witnessed publicly, according to interviews with more than a dozen officials familiar with the effort.

“People say, ‘Why would you do that?’” the president said in an Oval Office interview with The Washington Times on Friday. “And the answer is: This is my duty. The president is commander in chief, but the president is often comforter in chief, as well. It is my duty to be – to try to comfort as best as I humanly can a loved one who is in anguish.”

Mr. Bush, for instance, has sent personal letters to the families of every one of the more than 4,000 troops who have died in the two wars, an enormous personal effort that consumed hours of his time and escaped public notice.

The task, along with meeting family members of troops killed in action, has been so wrenching – balancing the anger, grief and pride of families coping with the loss symbolized by a flag-draped coffin – that the president often leaned on his wife, Laura, for emotional support

The Obamas on the other hand, very ostentatiously had the White House  Christmas trees decorated with military themes, last year, (their last Christmas in the White House before the election) to show their  support for the troops – so there’s that.

Ann Romney’s RNC Speech Tugs at the Heart Strings

Ann Romney, told the nation that her husband Mitt is  “the man America needs” during her prime-time address to the GOP convention, Tuesday evening. It was a speech crafted to reach out to women, and also to soften her husband’s image.

Fox News reported:

Ann Romney tried Tuesday night to bring some love – and some truth — to a presidential race marked recently by accusations of half-truths and lies — in a speech that paid homage to women and attempted to share Mitt Romney’s personal side to America.

“I want to talk not about what divides us, but what holds us together as an American family,” said Romney, whose husband had received the GOP presidential nomination just hours earlier. “Tonight I want to talk to you about love.”

Ann Romney, in a roughly 30-minute speech that ended with Mitt Romney walking on stage and kissing his wife, said it is women who are the unsung heroes of families

I know there’s not a woman in America who isn’t looking at this 60-odd year old woman, and marveling at her youthful radiance. Whatever her secret is – I want some.

Andrew Ferguson of The Weekly Standard: Learning to Like Mitt:

Ferguson  lists the reasons he (and many of us on the right) had for not liking Mitt -  “that half-smile of pitying condescension in debates or interviews when someone disagrees with him, the Ken doll mannerisms, his wanton use of the word “gosh”—the whole Romney package”. In sum, he never seemed genuine. But as many of us get to know him better, we are ashamed of how we used to feel.

Evidently not many of my fellow Republicans agreed. I assumed I was missing something and resolved to dive into the Romney literature, which I soon discovered should post a disclaimer, like a motel pool: NO DIVING. By my count the literature includes one good book, The Real Romney, by two reporters from the Boston Globe. That’s the same Globe with the leftward tilt to its axis and a legendary anti-Romney animus—which lends authority to their largely favorable portrait. The flattering details of Romney’s life were so numerous and unavoidable that the authors, dammit, had no choice but to include them.

***

Almost every personal detail about Romney I found endearing. But my slowly softening opinion went instantly to goo when The Real Romney unfolded an account of his endless kindnesses—unbidden, unsung, and utterly gratuitous. “It seems that everyone who has known him has a tale of his altruism,” the authors write. I was struck by the story of a Mormon family called (unfortunately) Nixon. In the 1990s a car wreck rendered two of their boys quadriplegics. Drained financially from extraordinary expenses, Mr. Nixon got a call from Romney, whom he barely knew, asking if he could stop by on Christmas Eve. When the day came, all the Romneys arrived bearing presents, including a VCR and a new sound system the Romney boys set up. Later Romney told Nixon that he could take care of the children’s college tuition, which in the end proved unnecessary. “I knew how busy he was,” Nixon told the authors. “He was actually teaching his boys, saying, ‘This is what we do. We do this as a family.’ ”

Video: Artur Davis Has His Zell Miller Moment.

One of the highlights of the 2004 Republican Convention was Zell Miller, the formerly  Democrat senator from Georgia, who switched parties  to endorse President George W. Bush’s reelection bid. His passionate speech will long be remembered.

Tonight, it was the former Alabama Democratic, Artur Davis’  turn to have his moment in the sun:

“America is the land of second chances,” Davis said. “And I gather in this close race you have room for the estimated six million of us who got it wrong in 2008 and who want to fix it. Maybe we should have known that night in Denver that things that began with Styrofoam, Greek columns, and artificial smoke typically don’t end well. Maybe the Hollywood stars and the glamour blinded us a little. Maybe you were blinded by what some of us thought was a halo. “

Obama’s Orwellian “Truth Team” unloaded on Davis with predictable venom, characterizing his party change as an opportunistic political calculation.

Once a strong supporter of moving our country forward, Alabama’s former Rep. Artur Davis switched parties after meeting with defeat in his run for governor and is now joining the GOP in launching unfounded attacks against President Obama at the Republican National Convention.

But his former colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus remember Davis before his political switch, and have come to the conclusion that Davis’ decision to switch political parties was a “result of a nakedly personal and political calculation or simmering anguish after failing to secure the Democratic nomination for governor of the State of Alabama in 2010.” In a letter to Davis, they remind him—and Americans—of the facts about his record:

[L]ess than two years ago, you routinely touted your progressive record as a member of the House of Representatives.  You supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Wall Street reform bill, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and ending tax subsidies for oil companies.  Despite voting against the final bill, you even supported major pillars of the Affordable Care Act like banning discrimination against pre-existing conditions, expanding Medicaid, and providing tax breaks to small businesses that provide health care, to name a few.

Contrary to your recent declarations, you hailed President Barack Obama as a “beacon of leadership,” touted President Obama as your “model,” and widely described the President as a friend.  As a member of the House of Representatives, you supported President Obama’s agenda 95% of the time, were quoted saying “I agree with him on everything,” and repeatedly invoked President Obama in your failed gubernatorial campaign.

ETC.

Hey losers?  He woke up and smelled the coffee – saw the fallacies in Obama’s “hope and change” . And he changed his mind.

And for that he has earned himself a place on Obama’s Enemies List.

A Star is Born: Standing O For Mia Love at RNC (Video)

Charismatic Utah Congressional candidate, Mia Love kicked off the RNC convention, Tuesday night, with a powerful speech that had the audience on their feet cheering. Love,  a rising star in the Republican party, would if elected, be the first black Republican woman ever elected to congress.

Transcript from the speech, via The Daily Caller:

“Let me tell you about the America I know,” Love began. “My parents immigrated to the U.S. with ten dollars in their pocket, believing that the America they had heard about really did exist. When times got tough they didn’t look to Washington, they looked within,” she said.

“So the America I came to know was centered in personal responsibility and filled with the American dream,” she said.

As Love went on to attack President Barack Obama, the crowd continually interrupted her, cheering wildly.

“President Obama’s version of America is a divided one — pitting us against each other based on our income level, gender, and social status,” she said. “His policies have failed! We are not better off than we were 4 years ago, and no rhetoric, bumper sticker, or campaign ad can change that.”

“Mr. President I am here to tell you we are not buying what you are selling in 2012,” she said.

An important reminder from Paul Mirengoff of Powerline:

This is a voice we need in Washington. However, she faces a tough race against a popular incumbent Democrat.

To help Mia Love win this race, you can contribute here.

Akin Campaign “Blasts” Reince Priebus – Accuses *Him* of Putting “Party Power” and “Political Games” Ahead of the Country (Video)

Todd Akin is  “disappointed” in GOP Chairman, Reince Priebus because he has vowed to withhold funds from Akin’s losing campaign. In a demonstration of projection usually seen in  left-wing pols, he accused Priebus of putting power and politics ahead of what’s good for the country.

Via Todd Akin for Senate: Akin Campaign Blasts Reince Priebus:

St. Louis, MO: Today the Todd Akin for Senate campaign released a statement in response to Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, who said on video that Todd could be tied with Claire McCaskill and they still wouldn’t support Akin’s campaign. Priebus said, “he could be tied. We’re not going to send him a penny.” VIDEO: http://youtu.be/jP1_J6XmtHI (embedded below)

Perry Akin, campaign manager, released the following statement:

“Reince Priebus’ comments are extremely disappointing. He claims the mantle of freedom, liberty and the good of America, but this betrays his apparent personal vendetta against Todd Akin.  He is putting party power and political games ahead of the good of the country.”

Here’s the Priebus  interview Akin is responding to:

“What I do love about some people in politics is they are in it for the cause,” Priebus said, “they really do believe that this is about liberty and freedom and the future of the country.  If that’s really where you’re at, and you have the opportunity to put someone else in place that has a better chance of winning than you do, well then, you’re not always the person who has to be the guy.”

“I just think the people who want to do something special are always better than the people who want to be someone special.”

Akin still hasn’t figured out that he’s the guy who’s putting political power above what is best for the country.

Earth to Akin…………DROP OUT, already!

SOFA’s New Ad: Bow to Nobody + An Anti-Obama Rock Anthem.

Getting a late start today — Here are a couple of cool videos I found in my inbox this morning, submitted for your approval while I surf the web looking for  something to blog about.

First, Special Operations for America’s, Bow to Nobody:

Press release:

Tampa, FL – Special Operations for America is proud to release its brand new video at the “Defending Our Defenders” event in Tampa, FL on August 28, 2012. The ad features clips of our service men and women fighting on the principle of American exceptionalism. Their valiant service is abruptly negated by the Commander-in-Chief, President Obama, bowing to other world leaders. The video highlights this administration’s fundamental disbelief in strong, American leadership. Our service men and women showcase America’s strength and freedom, but their service is sorely discredited when their leader bows on the world stage. They have fought far too hard.

In the words of Chairman Zinke, “The ad itself accurately portrays where this President is. It accurately portrays his core belief that America should not lead. This President is shaping America to be one of the followers, to relinquish our role as a world leader. I didn’t fight 23 years as a Navy SEAL to watch America bow to anybody.”

Our message of leadership and American exceptionalism is striking a chord. Many veterans have expressed their strong support, because this administration is dismantling their efforts to maintain American leadership. The Obama administration is taking note. Last week it was reported that Special Operations for America was added to the Obama campaign’s “enemies list.” SOFA’s message is resonating with voters. This ad will only continue to highlight our belief in strong, American leadership.

Chairman Zinke’s words echo the sentiments of those who believe in American exceptionalism, “I’ve been trained to fight and not give up, and I’m not going to give in.”

Second, the anti-Obama hard rock anthem,  I Am America by These 3 Remain:

Video: Black Pastor Says Obama Turned His Back on the Values of Their Community By Coming Out For Gay Marriage

Via The Right Scoop, N.C. pastor Dr. Patrick Wooden recorded a radio ad for the National Organization for Marriage encouraging the black community in North Carolina to vote against Obama because of his recent flip-flop on gay marriage:

Many black pastors are offended  because tone deaf homosexual activists like to compare their push for gay marriage with the civil rights movement of the 60′s – a comparison that rankles the  feathers of blacks who still remember those days.

Back in May, Maggie Gallagher predicted the following:

Obama’s gay marriage endorsement changed the political dynamic in ways that will hurt him in at least three ways:

1. Obama consolidated Mitt Romney’s base.

In a poll taken by PRRI/RNS Religion News Survey from May 2 to May 6, white evangelicals backed Romney by only 68 percent to 19 percent — well under the 79 percent support they gave George W. Bush’s winning campaign in 2004.

Now? Well, the numbers aren’t crunched yet but take this as a leading indicator: Robert Jeffress, the Dallas Baptist minister who called Mormonism a cult at last year’s Values Voter Summit, just endorsed Romney: “Given the choice between a Christian like Barack Obama who embraces very unbiblical principles like abortion and a Mormon like Mitt Romney who supports biblical values like the sanctity of life and marriage, I think there’s a good biblical case for voting for Mitt Romney,” Jeffress said.

2. Obama turned off independents.

A whopping 40 percent of voters told Gallup that Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage would affect their vote, and among independents — by a 2 to 1 margin — it made voters less likely to vote for him.

3. Obama may have put his own black and Latino base into play.

Pastor Emmett Burns (a delegate to the Maryland Assembly) was very upset: “He has said to his base, African-Americans, ‘I am going against your beliefs and your thoughts,’” Burns told the media. He now says he will no longer support the president and predicts Obama will lose in November.

How many Pastor Burnses are out there? We do not yet know.

Here’s the biggest change: Obama, by endorsing gay marriage, has broken through the media silence imposed on those who oppose gay marriage, generating new, unexpected and highly visible expressions of opposition.

All of a sudden, pastors across America are preaching against gay marriage. Conservative talk radio shows are addressing it. People are hearing that their friends and neighbors disapprove.

This is a conversation – as with medicare – Americans are happy to have.

And Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage may turn out to be his Achilles’ Heel in this election.
