Hope springs eternal.
Matalin is a consummate political insider, so it’s hardly likely that she doesn’t have an inside line on this…
Via Outside the Beltway: Republicans Planning Write-In Candidate Against Akin?
Mary Matalin suggested on ABC News’s This Week that top Republicans are planning to fund a write-in candidate against Todd Akin if he fails to remove himself from the Missouri Senate race:
This morning on ABC News, however, Mary Matalin — a well-connected GOP operative — suggested that Republicans would run a write-in candidate to defeat Akin. Matlin said that, if necessary, Republicans would “transfer the money” to Ann Wagner — a former chairwoman of the Missouri GOP who is currently running for Congress — to run as a 3rd party or write-in candidate. Transcript:
Matalin: We are going to win Missouri and Wagner is going to be our candidate. The party is going to get Ann Wagner in.
Stephanapolous: So you are just convinced he’s going to get out
Matalin: Or we’ll run a third party, we’ll run a write-in. We can do it. We have the money to do it. We are going to transfer the money. It’s not as easy. But it’s a good state for Romney and we will get it back.
Very interesting. Watch the video at the link.
Ann Coulter has been recommending for days that Republicans drop a nuclear bomb on Akin, suggesting a write-in campaign for a popular Republican, such as Kit Bond, former governor and senator from Missouri. Kit Bond is retired and not interested, but Ann Wagner appears to be game.
The other big political news, Sunday, was this shocka: Unpopular Former Republican Governor Endorses Unpopular Democrat President:
Charlie Crist, who lost the 2010 Senate campaign to Marco Rubio, publishes his endorsement on the editorial page of today’s Tampa Bay Times:
As America prepares to pick our president for the next four years — and as Florida prepares once again to play a decisive role — I’m confident that President Barack Obama is the right leader for our state and the nation.
“Corrupt” wouldn’t fit in the headline, but it’s not like we’ve forgotten all the shenanigans alleged against former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist by his former handpicked state party chairman, who has since been indicted on federal corruption charges. More importantly, however, Crist represents no constituency other than himself.
I can barely work up enough interest to register a “who the @#$%& cares?” reaction to that one.

Is Wagner a TRUE Conservative – or a GOP establishment insider???????

Todd Akin does have one qualification to be a Senator.. He is stupid enough

If the Rockyfeller Repubs were smart….that’s a big ???, they would stop caterwauling about Akin and get back to doing so against the Leftist!

Rockyfeller Repubs? Or “Liberal elites” or “Party Bosses” as Todd Akin says? What a pathetic joke.
All savvy conservatives who understand politics – from grassroots tea party, social-cons, conservative radio and TV pundits to the establishment get that Todd Akin is now radioactive and we will lose this very important seat with him. This isn’t rocket science. It’s simple math. Look at the polls. He doesn’t have enough charisma or political skills to come back from the hole he’s dug for himself. He. is. TOXIC. He will LOSE.
What is it about that that you people don’t understand?

That’s pretty interesting, you would think that Matlin has some kind of inside track on this. It would be a huge task to pull off though. While Murkowski pulled it off in Alaska, I don’t think that’s the model for a victory in Missouri. Completely different markets and electorates. It’s worth a try though.
Akin is dead meat, he isn’t going to be able to compete for anything without Party support. He’ll never be able to raise enough funds to be competitive.

Crist has gone the way of Jumpin Jeffords and Loser Spector… Soon never to be heard from again… He was massively defeated by Marco Rubio and is just another sad vindictive loser. So happy to see he is joining the sinking ship of Democrats at the right time to go down with the Titanic with Obama… Perfect! Happy to note that Artur Davis has transfered to the Republican lifeboat and will be saved! I think this election may be another seismic election that results from the TEAnami sweeping out more Dems as well as some weak OLD Republicans who were defeated during the primaries.

at least the dems circle the wagons for one of their own. if we do a third party in mo we will have a democrat from mo agin.think people

That’s the nice thing about Republicans. When one of ours screws up this badly, we don’t throw credibility to the wind and circle the wagons. We hold them accountable. We had hoped he would do the honorable, rational thing and step down so we could go about the business of winning this seat that was destined to be ours until Akin put his foot in his mouth. But no. He is forcing himself on an unwilling public, now.
Lisa Murkowski won in Alaska as a write in candidate (with a much harder to spell name than Wagner.) I don’t like it – but it’s doable. He’s a sure loser, either way.
