How Quaint: Former Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers a Keynote Speaker at Association of Teacher Educators Conference

Via Charlie Spiering of The Washington Examiner:

The Association of Teacher Educators has recruited Chicago professor – and former domestic terrorist – William Ayers to speak at their the 2013 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia which will be held next month.

William Ayers, a co-founder of the radical Weather Underground domestic terror group, was a key figure during the 2008 presidential campaign due to his Chicago ties to then-Senator Obama.

The organization’s executive director, David Ritchey, confirmed that Ayers would be a keynote speaker at the conference although he admitted that he wasn’t involved in the selection process.

According to Ritchey, Ayers was invited due to his “work in the education field, apart from all the other stuff.”

Since the website biography makes no specific mention of Ayers’ controversial background, I thought I’d correct the oversight, here. For the children…

The keynote speaker at the Association of Teacher Educators conference, Bill Ayers’ bio via Discover the Networks:

  • Leader of the Weather Underground, a domestic terrorist group of the 1960s and ’70s
  • “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”
  • Participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972
  • Worked as a professor of education at the University of Illinois from 1987-2010

In the late Sixties, Ayers became a leader of the Weather Underground (WU), a splinter faction of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Characterizing WU as “an American Red Army,” Ayers summed up the organization’s ideology as follows: “Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, Kill your parents.” One of Ayers’ fellow WU leaders was Bernardine Dohrn, the woman who would later become his wife.

In a July 29, 1969 speech which he delivered at the University of Oregon, Ayers boasted of SDS’s role in the Venceremos Brigades, a project initiated by the Cuban intelligence agency to recruit and train American leftists as “brigadistas” capable of waging guerrilla warfare.

Ayers was an active participant in the 1969 “Days of Rage” riots in Chicago, which were led by WU’s antecedent group, Weatherman. In the mayhem, nearly 300 members of the organization engaged in vandalism, arson, and vicious attacks against police and civilians alike. Their immediate objective was to spread their anti-war, anti-American message. Their long-term goal, however, was to cause the collapse of the United States and to create, in its stead, a new communist society over which they themselves would rule. With regard to those Americans who might refuse to embrace communism, Ayers and his comrades — including Bernardine Dohrn, Mark Rudd, Linda Evans, Jeff Jones, and numerous others — proposed that such resisters should be sent to reeducation camps and killed. The terrorists estimated that it would be necessary to eliminate some 25 million people in this fashion, so as to advance the revolution.

In his 2001 memoir Fugitive Days, Ayers recounts his life as a Sixties radical and boasts that he “participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972.” Of the day he bombed the Pentagon, Ayers writes, “Everything was absolutely ideal…. The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them.” He further recalls his fascination with the fact that “a good bomb” could render even “big buildings and wide streets … fragile and destructible,” leaving behind a “majestic scene” of utter destruction.

All told, Ayers and the Weather Underground were responsible for 30 bombings aimed at destroying the defense and security infrastructures of the U.S.  “I don’t regret setting bombs,” said Ayers in 2001, “I feel we didn’t do enough.” Contemplating whether or not he might again use bombs against the U.S. sometime in the future, he wrote: “I can’t imagine entirely dismissing the possibility.”

In 1970, Ayers’ then-girlfriend Diana Oughton, along with Weatherman members Terry Robbins and Ted Gold, were killed when a bomb they were constructing exploded unexpectedly. That bomb had been intended for detonation at a dance that was to be attended by hundreds of Army soldiers at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Ayers himself attested that the bomb would have done serious damage, “tearing through windows and walls and, yes, people too.” Notably, Ayers’ fingerprints were found at the bomb-making site, along with an assortment of anti-personnel weapons, stabbing implements, C-4 plastic explosive, and dozens of Marxist-Leninist publications.

After the death of his girlfriend, Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn spent the rest of the decade as fugitives running from the FBI.

William Ayers is a communist. But don’t take my word for it. He said so himself:

And not some nicey-nice peace-and-love kind of communist. Through his group the Weather Underground, Ayers was planning to “seize power” in a violent communist takeover of the United States:

The quotes above were scanned directly from a now long-forgotten book entitled Prairie Fire: The Politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism, which was written and published in 1974 by William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn and other members of the Weather Underground. In this slim volume, which functioned as the Weather Underground’s ideological manifesto, Ayers declares himself to be a communist, and announces that his group’s bombing campaign was intended to start a violent revolution to overthrow the American government.

Coincidentally, according to former Marxist schoolmate Dr. John Drew, Obama had the same goals while he was attending college at Occidental! And now he’s our President, and his commie pal is being lauded by our nation’s educators.

“Nah-nah, get over it –  your side lost!” Obama’s minions taunt. Yeah – okay.

No worries…

For the record, and just to be complete, here are links documenting some of Obama’s many connections to William Ayers:

• Ayers and Obama worked together for years on a school reform program called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.
• Ayers and Obama also served together on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, a separate charity organization.
• Obama had his political coming-out party in William Ayers’ home.
Ayers mentions Obama by name in a book he wrote in 1997, and mentions that the two are very close neighbors.
• Obama gave a short glowing review of that same Ayers book for the Chicago Tribune.
• Obama and Ayers were both presenters together on a panel about juvenile justice (organized by Michelle Obama).
• Both Obama and Ayers were close friends with the same person, Rashid Kalidi.
• There are also several unverified rumors swirling around that have not been documented: That Ayers may have helped to write part (or all) of Obama’s autobiography; that Obama and Ayers shared an office space together for three years, on the same floor of the same building in Chicago; and that Ayers and Obama may have known each other as far back as 1981.

It gets worse.

When Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn led the domestic terrorist group Weather Underground in 1969, a chance meeting led Army veteran Larry Grathwohl into joining the group. Grathwohl served as a courier, running messages between the group’s leadership (called the “Weather Bureau”) and individual cells that were to carry out attacks.

Grathwohl was also an informant for the FBI.

In an interview from the 1982 documentary No Place To Hide that recently surfaced, Grathwohl discussed what the Weathermen intended to do after overthrowing the U.S. government, including what they would do with those Americans who refused to embrace communism.

I asked, “Well what is going to happen to those people we can’t reeducate, that are diehard capitalists?” And the reply was that they’d have to be eliminated.

And when I pursued this further, they estimated they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers.

And when I say “eliminate,” I mean “kill.”

Twenty-five million people.

I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of which have graduate degrees, from Columbia and other well-known educational centers, and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people.

And they were dead serious.

That was Bob Owens, who interviewed Grathwohl for PJ Media 26 years later. You can read that interview, here.

Ayers’ work in the education field has not really been “apart from all that other stuff.” It’s just been a less violent means to an end – what he and Obama would call the “transformation of America.” Not that the end game won’t involve some unpleasantness.

Lefties may sneer at the fact that Americans are arming up from coast to coast in anticipation of….something. But the thing is – the truth about Obama’s past managed to slip past the media gatekeepers long ago and millions of us were chilled to the bone by what we learned.

Rush, yesterday:

President Obama today is taking action that a majority of Americans disagree with.  He’s going down a road a majority of people disagree with.  He knows it.  The question is, why?  Why is Barack Obama literally trying to push people to snap?  Why is he doing this?  It’s as though in some way he’s attacking the very sanity of people in this country.  Why is he doing this?  Why is he deliberately making people so upset?  What is driving him?  Anybody got any ideas?

***

My friends, I’m here to tell you: It’s the president ginning things up. It’s the president creating unrest and fear and instability and I don’t know why. I mean, I know the president’s political leanings. I know what his ideology is. I know why and what about this country he doesn’t like and wants to change. I understand all that, but I don’t understand why he wants to get in people’s faces and irritate them.

I don’t understand why he wants to make people so upset. I don’t understand what drives him on that.

  1. Most of you remember a year ago Ayers was told the women in a group of Occupiers that maybe one of them could claim his his wife’s one time title of the “Most Dangerous Woman in America”

Here another little quote, straight from his own website– He was in Venezuela in 2006

This is my fourth visit to Venezuela, each time at the invitation of my comrade and friend Luis Bonilla, a brilliant educator and inspiring fighter for justice. Luis has taught me a great deal about the Bolivarian Revolution and about the profound educational reforms underway here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution, and I’ve come to appreciate Luis as a major asset in both the Venezuelan and the international struggle—I look forward to seeing how he and all of you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane. Thank you, Luis, for everything you’ve done.
    ________

The international struggle he’s referring to is here- Linda Hammond Darling has a great deal of influence over in the Presidents Education policies including Common Core Standards and Race To The Top. She’s a long time friend, supporter and disciple of Ayers.. Mike Klonsky another “possibly former” communist terrorist was instrumental in setting up the “Small Schools Workshop” with Bill Ayers. During his time on the boards of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and Woods Foundations Obama steered a lot of money towards Klonsky.. The goal of the Work Shop is to implement a Social Justice Based Curriculum in public schools–

  2. “Birds of a feather” – “Peas in a Pod”. . . . come to mind.
Many of his radical ideas are being adopted into school curriculum today.
