Nice: Dr. Benjamin Carson Decries Political Correctness, Moral Decay and Fiscal Irresponsibility in National Prayer Breakfast Speech (Video)

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital delivered what is being described as one of the more unique speeches delivered at this morning’s National Prayer Breakfast. Rush Limbaugh raved about it on his show, today, because the good doctor took the opportunity to share his theories about the national debt, deficits, taxation and health care, all in opposition to  Obama’s policies.

The Blaze reported:

His keynote, while predicated upon the theme of Jesus Christ as his ultimate role model, also took a starkly political tone, advocating against some of the very policies the president has implemented.

At the beginning of his speech, Carson shared an intense disdain for political correctness. Without getting too specific on the issue front, he said that Americans should stop being afraid to speak up and defend their beliefs; he also encouraged people to respect the individuals they disagree with. Carson held little back, condemning political correctness as “a horrible thing” that is “dangerous,” as it hampers freedom of thought and expression.

The speech took an interesting turn when the doctor cautioned that moral decay and fiscal irresponsibility can have dire consequences — even for powerful countries like America. Here, he became even more pointed and impassioned.

“I think particularly about ancient Rome. Very powerful — nobody could even challenge them militarily…they destroyed themselves from within,” Carson continued. “Moral decay. Fiscal irresponsibility.”

Keith Koffler of White House Dossier reported that Obama appeared “exceedingly sleepy” at the Prayer Breakfast today, “looking like he was having trouble staying awake as others spoke and delivering his own remarks ponderously, with heavy eyelids and a tired visage.”

Obama told lawmakers Thursday that he hopes the spiritual lessons of the National Prayer Breakfast would carry over from the event — something he says hasn’t really happened in years past – suggesting that growing spiritually means agreeing with HIM,  “You’d like to think that the shelf life wasn’t so short,” Obama said. “After previous prayer breakfasts, I go back to the Oval Office and I start watching the cable news networks — and it’s like we didn’t pray!”

Here’s video of his remarks.

Obama, who rarely holds a publicly announced event before 10:00 am and is known to be a nighthawk, was forced to show up at the breakfast at 7:55 am.

While listening to the warmup speakers, the president’s eyes were frequently downcast, he appeared drawn, and he was chewing gum, presumably the Nicorette he is known to use to satisfy his nicotine addiction without smoking. He occasionally brushed a finger onto an eye, as if trying to remove morning crust or wetness. He sometimes seemed to miss his cues to laugh or smile politely at jokes.

Obama appeared to labor particularly hard to stay awake while opera singer Andrea Bocelli performed a dirge-like classical song accompanied only by piano.

Koffler says Obama did perk up a bit for Dr.  Carson’s keynote speech, but began “getting sleepy again when Carson started promoting a flat tax.”

  1. Awesome! And what a coincidence, since we watched “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story” just last night. It’s on Netflix instant play if you have it, and I highly recommend it. My three teenagers, who informed me that they would NOT be watching it, were enthralled by every one of the 90 minutes of the made-for-tv movie! Tonight we’ll be watching his full speech 🙂 Thanks for posting; the timing is perfect!

  2. I agree that Ben Carson is one of the greatest Americans alive today- he is truly a gift from God. He spoke at our Nurse Practitioner conference a few years ago in Baltimore- he is such an impressive spiritual leader- one our nation truly needs now as he said in II Chronicles 7:14.

  3. Dr. Carson was fantastic. I think obozo realized at around the reciting of the second proverb that he was about to be taken to the wood shed and be given a real lesson. He seemed very detached and unimpressed, as I would expect from him. I would’ve loved to be able to see the facial reactions of MoocHell and when it finally dawned on her.

  4. I have heard of this guy…VERY inspirational personal story. And his “taking Obama to the woodshed” speech was UNBELIEVABLE. Wonder if a drone will be flying over Dr. Carson’s house any time soon?

  5. He made Obama mad with the discussion of health savings accounts. Watch the playback again. Obama’s advisers have said repeatedly that they believe HSAs are bad for health care and here is a very prominent, very well-respected neurosurgeon saying otherwise. Dr. Carson didn’t come out and say let’s get rid of ObamaCare, but why would we need ObamaCare if he’s right? Got to love anytime Obama gets poked by someone smarter than him, with a more “tragic” childhood, who rose above it. Got to love it more when he can’t talk over them and isn’t able to retire to a back room. He had to sit there and be polite. Whoot-Whoot!

  6. You’re better off reading the book – Gifted Hands (or I think it was re-titled later on as the Ben Carson Story). The movie was good but they left out some of the more phenomenal poignant stories (I thought anyway).
The triage teaching thing in the movie (you can only derive what I mean if you actually saw the movie) was dissapointingly very inaccurate — in a big way — have to read the book to find out…..

  8. Just watched Dr. Ben Carson on Hannity’s TV show and must say that I was very impressed with him and his views. In fact, It’s been a very long time since I’ve heard someone who actually made sense and told it like it is! His references to God also got my attention – especially when he said he prays before he gives a speech of any importance. He gave me a glimmer of hope that someone out there might be able to fix the mess this country is in right now.

  11. Normally I would say that this isn’t the forum for a political speech like this one. However, having said that. . . . . . . .

Given the distinguished [hmm-humm] audience and his past record for this very tactic this one was perfect. The very guy who loves taking a “captive audience” [who can’t respond] and take pot shots at them. . . . think the Justices of the Supreme Court at the SOTU or Paul Ryan and the Republicans invited to his press conference, positioned in the front row and then taken to task where they couldn’t respond in kind. Well . . . . . .

    Can anyone say: P-O-E-T-I-C J-U-S-T-I-C-E !
    Love it.

  15. Given that this was a faith-based event, what do the Scriptures contain about the national debt, deficits, taxation, and health care?
