This talk is from November 2013, but I saw it for the first time, today and think it deserves more attention.
Frank Gaffney probably needs no introduction. He is the founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, columnist at The Washington Times, Big Peace, and Townhall, and radio host on Secure Freedom Radio.
Stephen Coughlin is an attorney and decorated intelligence officer who formerly worked at the State Dept. as a specialist on Islamic law. He is now is a Senior Fellow at at the Center For Security Policy.
Mr. Coughlin integrates experience in international law, intelligence, strategic communications and high-level project management in both the national defense and private sectors to develop unique perspectives, assessments and training packages relating to the intersection of national security and law. Often cited as the Pentagon’s leading expert on Islamic law, Coughlin is in demand as a lecturer at leading Defense training institutions, including the Naval War College, Marine Corps HQ-Quantico, and at Staff, Command and Division levels, as well as for the FBI and other agencies and private sector groups. A Major in the United States Army (res.), assigned to USCENTCOM, with a military intelligence specialty, Coughlin has served in a strategic communications role in CENTCOM-Doha. U.S. assignments have included attachment to the Pentagon’s National Military Joint Intelligence Center, the National Security Council’s Interagency Perception Management Threat Panel, and culminating in his assignment to the intelligence staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Coughlin’s private sector career has focused on international law, competitive intelligence and the development and provision of open source, classified and proprietary commercial data and information products and programs at leading publishing houses such as Lexis-Nexis/Reed Elsevier and West Group/WestLaw.
Via Atlas Shrugs, Feb 2010:
Late in 2007, Major Stephen Coughlin, USAR, the Pentagon’s lone expert on Islamic law (Sharia) on the Joint Staff, was asked by Hesham Islam, special assistant for international affairs for the Deputy Secretary of Defense, Gordon R. England, to moderate his statements about Islam’s doctrines mandating warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers. In response, Coughlin, cited Islamic sources to show that he was portraying Islamic teaching accurately. According to journalist Bill Gertz in the Washington Times, Islam and other Muslims in the Pentagon then began campaigning to have Coughlin fired, calling him a “Christian zealot with a pen.” Ultimately, Coughlin’s contract was not renewed.
This was despite the high quality of Coughlin’s work. Said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney: “Steve Coughlin is the most knowledgeable person in the U.S. government on Islamic law.” LTC Joseph C. Myers, Army Advisor to the Air Command and Staff College, told the truth: “The termination of Stephen Coughlin on the Joint Staff is an act of intellectual cowardice.”
Coughlin insisted that we must speak clearly about the nature of the threat we face. In his thesis, “‘To Our Great Detriment’: Ignoring What Extremists Say About Jihad,” submitted to the National Defense Intelligence College in July 2007, he argued that the politically correct refusal to name the enemy was placing the United States at a strategic disadvantage.
Coughlin: ” Starting in 2010, I started giving a briefing…it was given on Capitol Hill, I gave it in January of 2011 to the FBI-CT division, and I actually told Frank, one day – you can run with this. You can take it to the bank. The Arab World is coming down, it’s going to be a Muslim Brotherhood operation from the very beginning, here’s how they’re going to fall, here’s where they’re going to fall, and they’re going to position it as a Democracy Movement.”
He went on to ask, “who put the heavy diplomatic pressure on the Mubarak Regime for him to step down. Who brought military resources to bear to …switch sides on the war on terror and no one seems to know or care?….”
Walid Shoebat: America is Now an Accessory to Genocide:
On this blog, over the last few days – and we will be providing more evidence over the weeks and months ahead – we have documented sick levels of genocide against Christians and Shia Muslims in Syria. The even bigger scandal is the deafening silence of the media, the church, the Jewish Organizations, the Obama administration, and leaders from both political parties.
Why is it that our government and the leaders of both parties are saying and doing nothing about these atrocities? The answer is simple. We as a country are allies of the murderers. We have made Basher Al-Assad – the president of Syria – the enemy because of Iran and Russia. Yet, we have allied ourselves with Nazi-style murderers who follow fundamentalist Islam and wish to turn Syria into a Sharia compliant state similar to the way Gaza is run by Hamas, and how Egypt was run by Mohammed Mursi until he was overthrown.
President Obama and his regime have received material support from the Muslim Brotherhood for his election and re-election. We have also documented the strong relationship the current US administration has had with the overthrown Mursi regime in Egypt.
Bashar Al-Assad is a secular dictator and murderer too but his atrocities are not on par with the genocidal maniacs who behead people by the hundreds, just because they are of a different faith or do not conform to the sick, twisted fundamental ideas of fundamentalist Islam. The Christian community has been ignored, and in some case protected, under the Assad regime. As a result, their perceived support of Assad has made them targets of the Islamists.
More from Shoebat:
President Barack Obama’s policies “have become progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization,” Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the highest court at the Vatican, said in a recent interview.
Cardinal Burke added that Obama wants to restrict religious freedom and force the individuals, outside of his or her place of worship, “to act against his rightly-formed conscience, even in the most serious of moral questions.”
In an interview first published in Polish in Polonia Christiana magazine and republished exclusively in English at LifeSite News, Cardinal Burke, the former archbishop of St. Louis, was asked about President Obama’s policies towards Christian civilization and if there are any “Catholic reactions against this policy? If yes, what are they, [or] if not, why?”
Cardinal Burke, who heads the Apostolic Signatura, the highest court at the Vatican, said: “It is true that the policies of the president of the United States of America have become progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization. He appears to be a totally secularized man who aggressively promotes anti-life and anti-family policies.”
