Dr. Ben Carson: “Bundy Case Gives Us A Brief Glimpse of The Totalitarian Regime That Awaits a Sleeping Populace”

In an article in The American Thinker, Dr. Ben Carson,  the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, pointed out that the Bundy case in Nevada provided “many insights into the state of our nation with respect to the relationship between the people and the government.” Specifically, he said the massive show of federal force in what is essentially a civil, legal dispute is “frightening because it gives us a brief glimpse of the totalitarian regime that awaits a sleeping populace….”

The Bundys appear to be honorable American citizens without adequate legal counsel to help resolve a federal land issue about which they disagree with the Bureau of Land Management. Without question, they violated some of the innumerable laws and regulations that continue to entangle every aspect of American life.

Their violations could certainly have been handled through a multitude of less brutal means than those employed by our federal government, which through the mouthpiece of Sen. Harry Reid emphasizes how important it is for the government to enforce its laws.

It is quite interesting to see, though, that the same bureaucrats refuse to enforce some of our federal border-protection laws and other domestic policies with which they disagree. Perhaps Mr. Reid’s time could be better spent explaining why it is acceptable for the federal government to pick and choose which laws it wishes to enforce.

The senator readily referred to the Bundys and their supporters as “domestic terrorists,” but the current administration is reticent about applying the same term to Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who admitted slaughtering more than a dozen people in 2009 at Fort Hood in Texas. What does this tell us about our government and its perceptions and alignments?

The massive show of federal force in the Bundy case is frightening because it gives us a brief glimpse of the totalitarian regime that awaits a sleeping populace that does not take seriously its voting responsibilities, and places in public office (and returns them to office) who do not represent traditional American values.

The fact that the ranchers were well armed and willing to literally fight for their rights probably tempered the enthusiasm of the federal forces to engage in further aggression. It was clear from the body language and some of the reported verbal responses of the government forces that they were not prepared to engage in lethal combat with fellow Americans.

Carson went on to note that Americans can “take solace in knowing that many military and law enforcement personnel would likely refuse to obey commands inconsistent with freedom and American values.”

Carson elaborated on that in a recent interview on the Andy Parks Show, saying, “a lot of those government agents were not willing to point their guns at those people and were very reluctant to be engaged in a legal confrontation. I personally have talked to a number of military officials and CIA people who have told me that they are very vigilant and they not going to cooperate if there’s ever any type of government takeover of the peoples’ rights. And that to me is very encouraging. And I saw that with those people, there.”

“If you look back through history,” Carson continued, “what our government is doing is not unprecedented by any stretch of the imagination. It always starts like this. Freedom is not free.”

God bless Ben Carson for continuing to speak out. Racist left-wing goons are trying to paint the overachieving neurosurgeon and presidential medal of Freedom award winner as a whack-job and an “Uncle Tom” for candidly speaking his mind. But Carson brushes it off, undeterred. “When people don’t have anything worthwhile to talk about, and they can’t attack you on your character, they start calling you names”, he says. “This is a trick we learned in the third grade.”

The question is, has the government takeover already begun? Obama did promise to “fundamentally transform America.”

Bryan Fischer of Barbwire puts it this way:

If a Machiavellian genius were to set out to destroy the United States, he would do three things. Disarm and weaken our military so it cannot defend us against foreign enemies. Disarm the National Guard so it cannot defend the States against the federal government. Nationalize and militarize law enforcement by weaponizing bureaucrats.

That version of the U.S. would be helpless, governed by a tyrant, and without a cultural or moral core. It would soon cease even to faintly resemble the country bequeathed to us by the Founders.

Our commander-in-chief has canceled the military’s Tomahawk and Hellfire missiles, with no replacements in view for at least a decade. The Tomahawk is the most advanced cruise missile in the world and is the secret to the superiority of the U.S. Navy. The Hellfire is an extremely effective air-to-surface anti-tank weapon.

According to Seth Cropsey, director of the Hudson Institute’s Center for American Seapower, if someone were trying to “reduce the U.S. ability to shape events” in the world, he couldn’t “find a better way than depriving the U.S. fleet of Tomahawks. It’s breathtaking.”

Meanwhile, Obama is deliberately reducing the army’s troop strength to pre-World War II levels and disarming our National Guard units by transferring their Apache attack helicopters to the Army and trading them in for non combat Blackhawks.

National Guard units have been instrumental in the nation’s war efforts. There were times during Operation Iraqi Freedom when Guard troops represented over 50% of the Army’s combat power. Along with Reserve troops, they have accounted for nearly a third of the service members who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.

Why would the president wish to neuter such an effective fighting force? It’s quite simple really. National Guard units are part of State militias and therefore under the primary command of their state governors, until they mobilized for use in national defense operations. Because their commander-in-chief under ordinary circumstances is their governor, not their president, Guard units represent the last line of defense against a president drunk on his own tyrannical power.

In a Cliven Bundy kind of situation, where an ordinary citizen in one of our sovereign States is being threatened by armed bureaucrats pointing assault rifles at their wives and children, it makes a huge difference whether available attack helicopters are under the command of the federal government or under the command of a state governor determined to protect the rights of his citizens to life, liberty and property, if necessary against federal tyranny.

There is no denying that this president is weakening America, but people are only now figuring out what is going on with the Regime’s massive bullet acquisitions. They’ve been weaponizing bureaucrats, who tend to be libs with ingrained hostility toward conservatives. Many among them have no problem whatsoever training their rifles on ranchers and barring veterans from seeing war memorials. They will conduct armed raids to bully and harass guitar factory workers for “illegal wood” or a water bottle company over a tax dispute. These are not honorable, decent people. The sad fact of the matter is, we already have a modern day stasi – jack-booted government thugs ready and willing to do the Regime’s dirty work.

We now know what Obama meant when he famously declared in 2008 that we can no longer “continue to rely on our military” to protect our national security. Obama said, “we’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” At the time, no one knew what the hell he was talking about. It was such a bizarre thing to say.

He has made good on this frightening promise in ways that most Americans don’t realize. He currently has 120,000 bureaucrats – i.e., civilians – representing federal agencies who are armed to the eyeballs.

Here is just a partial list:

Don’t forget the IRS. Them too.

Even the Library of Congress, if you can believe it, is armored up. The Department of Education has its own SWAT team, and we’ve all seen Harry Reid’s BLM Brownshirts in action over the last several weeks. The Department of Homeland Security has 1.6 billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, which by international law cannot be used in warfare. In other words, the only possible use for this overwhelming tonnage of ammo is for it to be trained on our own citizens.

As the Bundy ranch stand-off proved – an armed populous throws a wrench into the Regime’s plans. Obama was probably thinking his gun control efforts would be further along by now. They are not, and a vigilant people will not comply with laws that are not faithfully executed nor equally enforced.  I fully expect Obama’s gun control efforts to ramp-up in the time he has left.

I say we need a little gun control. We too many civilians with guns. Time for the BLM, Department of Education, et al, to turn in their guns.
