Facing Genocide, Yazidis Cry Out For Help

Across the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, refugee camps, building sites and a sprinkling of Yazidi villages hold tens of thousands of Yazidi refugees who fled the advance of Isil in scenes of biblical exodus across Mount Sinjar in August.

But tens of thousands more were trapped behind the Isil lines.

Researchers adding together accounts of massacres in Yazidi villages as the jihadists attacked have counted a series of killings of more than 100 men each, with the total gunned down now thought to be up to 5,000.

An estimated 5-7,000 women are also being held in makeshift detention centres, where they are being taken away and either sold into servitude or handed to jihadists as concubines. The town of Tal Afar alone is thought to hold around 3,500 women and children in five detention centres.

Full story.

With the United States no longer engaged, ISIS  retook two towns on Sinjar Mountain Monday, “indicating that the Sunni militant group is advancing on territory that the U.S. had said that it had secured during its airstrikes on the region back in August.”

Via the International Business Times:

It was not immediately clear how many Yazidis were affected by the group’s takeover Monday. Some news reports said that as many as 700 families could have been displaced by the ISIS siege. Tens of thousands of Yazidis were forced to flee from the mountain this summer. Since then, many of those who fled have returned home, thinking that the U.S. had pushed back the militant group from the area.

Now ISIS is back in the area, looking to take back the towns it held before the U.S. airstrikes. One of the most vulnerable populations among the Yazidis are women. Earlier this month, ISIS said it had enslaved women and children in several villages on Mount Sinjar. In an article in its online magazine, ISIS claimed that the group gave women to soldiers who fought on the mountain.

Via the Washington Post, a desperate plea for help:

“We called asking for help with airstrikes, but nothing,” said Mohammad Khalil, a Yazidi and former member of parliament who has been fighting alongside the 2,000-strong volunteer force in the area since late August. “Now we are all trapped — the fighters are trapped, the civilians are trapped.”

Yazidis are facing “attempted Genocide” UN official says:

Strong evidence suggests that Iraq’s ethnic and religious minority, the Yazidis, face what could amount to “attempted genocide,” a top U.N. rights official said on Wednesday.

“The evidence strongly indicates attempt to commit genocide,” Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic said after meeting with more than 30 displaced Yazidis across Iraq in a week-long visit.

Via The Daily Mail, a Yazidi woman taken prisoner tells a tale of terror, desolation, and despair.

A young Yazidi woman forced into sex slavery by the Islamic State begged the West to bomb the brothel where she was being held after militants raped her 30 times in just a few hours, it is claimed.

The unidentified woman is understood to have been kept as a prisoner of the jihadists somewhere in western Iraq having been captured by ISIS during the Sinjar massacre in early August.

A group raising awareness of ISIS’ persecution of women in the vast swathes of the Middle East under its control said the woman had contacted Kurdish peshmerga fighters by telephone to plead for the brothel to be bombed to put the women held as sex slaves out of their misery.

She allegedly told the fighters she had been raped so frequently that she could no longer use the toilet, adding that the ordeal has been so harrowing that she plans to commit suicide even if freed.

The UK Telegraph reports that “at first, reports of the massacres and the mass sexual enslavement of women were so extreme and apparently incredible that they went little reported compared to the very visible plight of those who escaped to the mountain.”

However, United Nations researchers have managed to verify many of the accounts beyond reasonable doubt: virtually every refugee family has male relatives who have been killed and women who have been kidnapped.

***

Matthew Barber, a scholar of Yazidi history at the University of Chicago who was in Kurdistan as the assaults happened, said it was thought 3-5,000 men had been killed.

He said he had also compiled a list of 4,800 names of women and children being held captive.

“In every place where Yazidi women or families are held, jihadists come and randomly select women that they take away,” he added. “A final total above 7,000 is perfectly feasible.”

“My 13-year-old sister was separated from my family,” said one man, Ahmed Naif Qasem, who is staying in the town of Ba’adre. He was away serving with the Kurdish armed forces, the Peshmerga, when the Yazidis swept through in the first week in August.

His parents, wife and extended family were seized from their home in Snuny, near Sinjar, and taken over the Syrian border to be converted to Islam at gunpoint.

When the family returned, his sister and his wife had been taken away.

His wife was later allowed to rejoin her family after having been “treated badly”, he said, but no one had seen his sister since.

What has happened to the women has been relayed in a series of phone calls from families, and in some rare cases by women and girls who had managed to escape.

Mr Khalaf said his 13-year-old niece had been among the members of his family seized, but she had escaped seven weeks after being “taken away”. She had so far been too distressed to describe what had happened to her, he said.

“She just cries when she tries to speak,” he said. Others escapees have told of being “married” to older jihadi leaders, in some cases raped, and made to watch acts of barbarity.

Pray for the Yazadis, Kurds, and Christians in the Middle East.  And pray for peace, but if there can be no peace, pray for lots of well aimed airstrikes hitting their ISIS targets.

For some reason, I can’t get this hymn “Cry of the Poor” out of my head.

“Awesome!: CO Lib Activists Funded By Dem Super PAC Encourage Voter Fraud

No surprises here. Any Democrat who tells you actual voter fraud is rare – is either a lo-info drone, or lying to your face. Democrats and voter fraud go together like peaches and cream and have since the days of Tammany Hall.

John Fund reported on the latest Project Veritas investigation at National Review:

Many liberals are adamant there is no threat of voter fraud that justifies efforts to improve the integrity of elections. “There is no real concrete evidence of voter fraud,” tweeted Donna Brazile, former acting chair of the Democratic National Committee, this week. “It’s a big ass lie.”

James O’Keefe, the guerilla filmmaker who brought down the ACORN voter-registration fraudsters in 2010 and forced the resignation of NPR executives, politely disagrees. Today, he is releasing some new undercover footage that raises disturbing questions about ballot integrity in Colorado, the site of fiercely contested races for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, and the governorship. When he raised the issue of filling out some of the unused ballots that are mailed to every household in the state this month, he was told by Meredith Hicks, the director of Work for Progress, a liberal group funded by Democratic Super PACS.: “That is not even like lying or something, if someone throws out a ballot, like if you want to fill it out you should do it.” She then brazenly offered O’Keefe, disguised as a middle-aged college instructor, a job with her group.

Lefties, are of course wailing and gnashing their teeth over this latest O’Keefe sting. Mother Jones lowlife David Corn is trying to discredit the results on Twitter, but does have  a point about one thing.

Apparently, O’Keefe tried the same shtick with some Dem staffers but was rebuffed. Mother Jones had a write-up about that a couple of days ago in preparation for the release of the sting video. One of the staffers even took a picture of O’Keefe in his fake mustache allowing people to have a sneak peek.

It’s not surprising that Democrat staffers are not so careless that they would allow themselves to get caught on video supporting voter fraud. They let their community organizers handle that part of the criminal enterprise. It is a little surprising and disappointing that that fact wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the O’Keefe’s video.

This excuse doesn’t really cut it:

The video is not yet up on the Project Veritas website. Hopefully the write-up there will have the whole story.

Watcher’s Council Nominations : ‘You Usta be My Girl’ Edition

The president hasn’t been invited to do too much campaigning for his fellow Democrats this year. In fact, they have pretty much treated the idea of him making an appearance on their behalf like the president was suffering from Ebola.

One of the rare exceptions was Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who’s seeking the governor’s seat in Maryland. He thought it would be a great idea to have the president as a headliner at a campaign event to gin up black turnout. Instead, the largely black crowd in Maryland streamed for the exits while the president was still reading his speech to them off of the teleprompter.

The story was so embarrassing that Facebook actually blocked the link to a Yahoo news story about what happened like this:

Screen-Shot-2014-10-20-at-12.07.46-AM

And anyone attempting to post the story on their own Facebook account got this message:

Screen-Shot-2014-10-20-at-12.24.02-AM-620x636

This weeks’ edition gets its title from the variation of the title of an old O’Jay’s tune that was undoubtedly echoing in President Barack Hussein Obama’s head as he watched the crowd walk out on him and remembered happier days. They did usta be his girl (or another word I could think of), after all, but some of them are apparently getting tired of the same old song.

Vote R in the Midterms – Don’t Stay Home, Don’t Vote Independent or Libertarian

Everyone who wants to see Harry Reid dethroned in two weeks, raise your hand.

Republicans are expected to take the Senate, but the elections are far from decided. Some of the races are too close for comfort, because Democrats know how to “find” votes when they need them. The truth is, the conservative base needs to come out in massive numbers – no staying home and sulking because the establishment this or the establishment that. No “protest” ( throwaway) vote for a third party. The only way to save the country – or at least slow down its demise is to crush the Democrats in numbers.

An animated Ann Coulter came out of her “bat cave” to appear on Hannity, Tuesday,  to talk about why it’s so important for Conservatives to vote  R in two weeks. And I’m posting the video because I agree with her message 100%.

I know the Republican establishment can be somewhat *disappointing* at times, but don’t even think about voting third party, people. As Coulter notes, we need to have 53-54 seats to provide some padding for 2016, when we’re expected to lose a few. If ObamaCare is ever to be overturned, the Senate has to be in Republican hands when Obama leaves office.

But first, Sean wanted to talk about the nothingburger “has-been intern” Monica Lewinsky story, which Coulter impatiently pushed aside. “At one point I felt sorry for her, but this is getting to be like some aging celebrity’s farewell tour,” she quipped.

Also important – a new Citizens United documentary featuring Michelle Malkin reveals how far left, big moneyed interests poured into Colorado and turned it from red to blue. The same tactics are being used in Texas, and several other states, Malkin says, visibly  disgusted by the rank hypocrisy displayed by  the left as it rails against right leaning donors like the Koch Brothers.

Malkin appeared on the Kelly File to talk about the film, Rocky Mountain Heist:

Here’s a report CNN did on Alison Lundergan Grimes’ embarrassing family business. It’s apropos because she’s staked out positions on the minimum wage and feminism which Hugh Jass – the family business she has worked for – has a mortifyingly bad record on.

Via Truth Revolt: CNN Reports On Alison Grimes’ Hugh Jass Hypocrisy Awkward Family Promos:

“I’m fighting for all Kentuckians, all working Americans across this nation. I don’t believe $7.25 an hour raises a family of four above the poverty level,” says Grimes. However,CNN reports that “her family’s burger joint pays some tipped staffers minimum wage.” It’s a point that Grimes was happy to dodge.

“My family is not in this race. I’m on the ballot. And as much as Mitch McConnell wants to attack my family, he has from the beginning, I’m going to stay focused on the issues. And for me, it’s about making sure that hard working Kentuckians have a bright future. And that future includes having not just a minimum wage, but a living wage.”

Powerline: THE DEMOCRATS GO BACK TO THEIR RACIST ROOTS [UPDATED]

Faced with major electoral losses this year, the Democratic Party is pulling out all the stops. For them, that means descending, again, into racism. As Glenn Reynolds says:

Democrats used to use racial fearmongering to get white voters to turn out. Now they use racial fearmongering to get black voters to turn out. Not much else has changed….

The Democratic Party is trying to use the shooting of Michael Brown by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri to stimulate black turnout. There is zero reason to believe that the Brown incident had anything to do with race. Is there any evidence that Wilson, if attacked by a 6′ 4″, 292 pound white man, would not have shot him? No. Wilson may or may not have overreacted; we may never know for sure. But connecting the incident to race is sheer political opportunism by the Democrats.

The Daily Caller: Does This Video Show A Hispanic Activist Openly Committing Vote Fraud?

YouTube-screenshots-American-DailyIndy

A Republican party official in the largest county in Arizona says surveillance tape shows a progressive Hispanic activist blatantly and openly engaging in vote fraud.

The surveillance video below was recorded on Aug. 25 during this year’s primary election cycle at a central Maricopa County elections processing facility on the edge of downtown Phoenix.

A. J. LaFaro, Chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Committee obtained the video. He was watching the polls that day during the early-voting period voting for the Aug. 26 primary.

“The team processing the early ballots through the optical scanning equipment had gotten way ahead of the ‘upstream’ citizen boards preparing the early ballot batches for processing,” the Republican party official said, according to the Arizona Daily Independent.

While the information systems coordinator was on a long lunch break, he explained, he was “seated at one of the cubicles looking toward the reception area that is now behind bullet proof glass because of the violence and protesting that occurred by militant groups during the November 2012 general election.”

If Democrats win any seats in two weeks, it will be through using tactics like these.

“Straight White Guy Festival” Jest Upsets Diversity Police

1279_1405763864

“Come help us celebrate our enjoyment of being straight, white, and male,” the flier said. “Beer available.”

When some fake fliers advertising an upcoming “Straight White Guy festival” appeared in an Ohio town, last summer,  some humor-impaired individuals didn’t appreciate the humor or even get that it was a joke.

“This kind of thing implies there’s some kind of struggle going on for being a straight white person in Ohio,” one area resident sniffed.  “Straight white people are doing just fine.”

Hurrumph!

The leader of an organization pushing same-sex marriage whined that “the flyer is not productive.”  Thankfully, the situation provided an opportunity for a “teaching moment.”

Listen up, you knuckle draggers.

Via 10-tv.com:

“I think it detracts from the real problems of Ohio that need to be solved, that are being denied their constitutional rights because of who they are, or who the love. And that’s what we really need to work on and this is just kind of a distraction,” he added.

I’d say that whoever did this bad thing has been properly chastised. Shame on them and their white/straight/male privilege.

If the diversity police ever finds out who did the dastardly deed, they’ll publish his name and address on left-wing message boards so he and his family can be properly harassed. Then, they’ll call his employer and try to get him fired. Nice, tolerant citizens that they are.

A couple of thought criminals were interviewed for the story:

“I think it’s funny. If they want to do this, great, freedom of expression,” said Cheralyn Elkins.

“It doesn’t offend me personally,” added Collin Brubaker. “But I can think of people it would offend.”

I hope those two survived the wrath of the perpetually outraged.

The Federalist: Gay Marriage: No One Expects the Secular Inquisition:

Personally, I have no problem with gay people getting hitched, having weddings, and saying that they are “married.” I don’t have any religious objection, on account of not being religious, nor do I think gay marriages, given their very small numbers, will have any particular impact on the state of marriage as an important social institution. (Which, alas, has all sorts of problems of its own.)

But the test of liberty isn’t what happens to people who agree with the intent of a particular edict. The test is what happens to people who disagree.

That brings us to the reason why gay rights advocates insisted on the government granting same-sex unions the title of “marriage.” The theory behind this was that homosexuals suffer from a lack of social acceptance, and gay marriage would put the government’s imprimatur on their status as social equals—along with the promise that this equality is to be backed by government force.

The theory behind gay marriage, in short, was the theory behind the entire secular left: society and the state are the all-powerful forces on which the life of the individual depends, and the most important political task—indeed, the most important task in life—is getting this irresistible power on your side. Once you gain social and political power, you hold on to it by making your preferred views mandatory, a catechism everyone must affirm, while suppressing all heretical views. In this case, to gain social acceptance of homosexuality, you make the affirmation of gay marriages mandatory while officially suppressing any dissenting religious views.

Hence, the Secular Inquisition, which we should have expected all along.

Weasel Of The Week Nominations!!

weasel of the week

Hello and welcome to the Watcher’s Council’s ‘Weasel Of The Week’ nominations, where we award the golden plastic Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be publicly slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations and check back Thursday to see which Weasel gets the votes and walks off with the statuette of shame!

weasel Smarty_2

U.S. Secretary Of State John Kerry!!

WeaselWeek2

Simply Jews : John Kerry, to be liked more by the members of the Dictators’ Club, is ready to go the whole nine yards.

He said the unresolved Israel-Palestinian conflict was fueling recruitment for the Islamic State jihadist group.

“There wasn’t a leader I met with in the region who didn’t raise with me spontaneously the need to try to get peace between Israel and the Palestinians, because it was a cause of recruitment and of street anger and agitation,” Kerry said.

Why should ISIS head-cutters invest in their propaganda, when the leader of the free world, via his proxy, provides them with ready-to-use soundbites ?

Another low in the White House Middle East “peace effort”…

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week goes to John Kerry, more affectionately (not) referred to as Lurch, for claiming that extremism has nothing to do with Islam:

Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday night rejected any link between Islam and extremism practiced by the likes of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL/Daesh), pointing instead to factors such as poverty among youthful Mideast populations, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict – and climate change.

Addressing a reception at the State Department in honor of the recent Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, Kerry told an audience of Muslim community representatives, diplomats and others that the world was facing “a very complex time, and there are many currents that are loose out there that have brought us to this moment.”;

“The extremism that we see, the radical exploitation of religion which is translated into violence, has no basis in any of the real religions,” he said. “There’s nothing Islamic about what ISIL/Daesh stands for, or is doing to people.”

So, religion has nothing to do with religion in Islam. Except it does… it has everything to do with the Qu’ran and Allah’s most devoted worshipers. Instead Kerry blames Israel yet again, the lack of socialist collectivism in the world and non-existent climate change. Forked tongue much?

JoshuaPundit : John Kerry, for his revival of a kinky  variation of Meershimer and Walt’s ‘The Israel Lobby’  fantasy and saying that Islamic State’s success in recruiting is due to Israel’s failure to commit national suicide and bow to all Hamas/Fatah’s demands:

.As I went around and met with people in the course of our discussions about the ISIL coalition, the truth is we – there wasn’t a leader I met with in the region who didn’t raise with me spontaneously the need to try to get peace between Israel and the Palestinians because it was a cause of recruitment and of street anger and agitation that they felt – and I see a lot of heads nodding – they had to respond to. And people need to understand the connection of that. And it has something to do with humiliation and denial and absence of dignity, and Eid celebrates the opposite of all of that.

Said of course,  at a reception honoring  the Muslim holiday of Eid-al-Adha, to a predominantly Muslim audience, most of  whom would undoubtedly giggle and high five one another if every Jew in Israel were to die tomorrow.

For that matter, if Kerry is telling the truth, the majority of the leaders Kerry claims he talked to don’t even recognize Israel’s existence as a state! Even CNN doesn’t do polls that biased. And does he really think that Islamic State, Hamas and Hezbollah  would disarm, disappear and give up their quest for the Caliphate if Israel suddenly disappeared from the equation?

Also, for his unique performance appeasing the Iranians and knuckling under to their continued  demands and transparent stalling to keep the ball rolling on their illegal nuclear weapons program.

Texas Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Wendy ‘Abortion Barbie’ Davis!!

MizunoWaveRider16_1000x500-620x270

The Independent Sentinel: Wendy Davis for exploiting Greg Abbott’s handicap to attack him in an ad using a sneering narrator sets her apart from the weasels out there.

She ran a wheelchair ad attacking Greg Abbott who is in a wheelchair. Then she gave a press conference about the ad with handicapped people sitting in wheelchairs so she could double down and attack Abbott again.

When she criticized Greg Abbott, she said he “kicked the ladder down”. Now she’s improved her rhetoric and says he “pulled the ladder out.”

She held another presser with her campaign person awkwardly dragging a handicapped man across the floor in a chair.

She’s not only a weasel, she’s an insensitive, offensive weasel.

Nice Deb : Wendy Davis for the second week in a row, even as her mortifying campaign for governor of Texas implodes.

No one expected her to top last week’s spectacularly bad wheelchair ad, but a race-baiting tweet slamming her opponent TX Atty General Greg Abbott for not answering a question about mixed marriages, managed to embarrass and offend, once again.

She received massive and much deserved blow-back given that Abbott himself is in a mixed marriage, having married a Hispanic woman. The question itself was apropos of nothing as bans on such marriages have been found by the Supreme Court to be unconstitutional.

The idea that Greg Abbott would support a marriage ban on mixed marriages, (including his own) struck most people as ludicrous.

Once again, Wendy went out on a limb like a very clumsy and silly weasel, and ended up falling on her face.

Rhymes With Right:Wendy Davis — First the ad attacking Greg Abbott’s wheelchair, now claims that Abbott (who is married to a Latina) is against interracial marriage. Pretty weaselly if you ask me.

America’s Ebola Czar And Designated Spin Artist Ron Klain!!

Virginia Right! :Clearly Obama believes he has a messaging problem, not an Ebola problem. Klain will hammer Democrats who get out of line with Obama’s Ebola message and he will be in charge of lying to the press and the public to pretend Obama’s response is top of the line.

Heaven help us if this disease gets out of control. Nobody in our government is serious about this.

Well, there it is! Are these worthy weasels or what? Check back Thursday to see which Weasel walks off with the statuette of shame!

New Aid For Kurds From Turkey and U.S. Represents Policy Shift

The Turkish foreign minister announced Monday that Turkey has decided to allow Iraqi Kurdish forces, (aka peshmerga), to cross its border with Syria to help fight the ISIS fanatics who have been attacking the besieged Syrian town of Kobani for more than a month.

Via The New York Times:

The decision represents an important shift by the Turkish government, which has angered Kurdish leaders and frustrated Washington for weeks by refusing to allow fighters or weapons to cross its border in support of the Kurdish fighters defending the town. Speaking at a news conference in Ankara, the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said that his government was “helping the pesh merga cross over to Kobani.”

The announcement, along with an American decision to use military aircraft to drop ammunition and small arms to resupply Kobani, reflected escalating international pressure to push back Islamic State militants. The militants have recently lost momentum after appearing for a while to be close to routing the town’s defenders.

Conservatives like Charles Krauthammer have been calling on the Obama administration to arm the out-gunned Kurds for months, but for some reason, the Regime resisted. I have always suspected that there was tacit agreement with Turkey preventing us from doing the obvious to help the besieged Kurds.

The fact that both of these decisions – Turkey’s change of heart in letting the Kurds cross the Turkish border to support the Peshmerga, and the US’s decision to FINALLY supply the Kurds with arms and ammo came at virtually the same time, suggests to me that an agreement between the two nations has been struck.

Opening a passage for the pesh merga creates the impression that Turkey has changed its stance, and is on board with the coalition against ISIS,” said Halil M. Karaveli, an expert on Turkey and a senior fellow at the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute in Stockholm. “But this move is actually in Turkey’s own interests.” Mr. Karaveli said the pesh merga would counterbalance the Kurdish groups in Kobani that Turkey opposes.

Turkey’s decision also suggested that it had quietly agreed to the United States’ decision to airdrop weapons and ammunition to Kobani’s defenders.

Mr. Obama spoke with Mr. Erdogan on Saturday, and notified him of the decision to conduct the airdrops, American officials said. It was not clear what kind of agreement had been struck, though analysts said that Turkey probably wanted assurances that the supplies would not be used by the P.K.K. against Turkey.

ABC News: ISIS forces launch multiple attacks on Kurdish territory in Iraq, officials say:

First, an ISIS-commandeered military truck loaded with explosives targeted a Peshmerga checkpoint along the security belt circling the dam, killing six Peshmerga security forces and injuring seven others critically, according to Peshmerga forces spokesman Said Mamazeen.

At almost the same time, ISIS militants launched an attack on the Nineveh Valley near the dam, which was repelled by Peshmerga forces using European and American weapons, the spokesman said.

Another Kurdish military official, who asked not to be named for protocol and security reasons, said that despite the attacks, it would be difficult for ISIS to gain control of the dam because of the large numbers of Peshmerga forces in the area.

A senior official at the Ministry of Peshmerga, who similarly asked not to be identified as a matter of government protocol, reported that ISIS fighters were also killed in the attacks, and that the Peshmerga successfully repelled most of the more than dozen incidents Monday.
