John Gabriel, Freedomworks: National School Choice Week Kicks Off:

National School Choice Week 2013 kicked off Friday night at a packed house in Phoenix, Arizona. The annual event, which this year runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, highlights a diverse selection of educational options for all kids. It made sense to launch this year’s effort in Arizona, a pioneer in school choice initiatives.

With more than 7,000 attendees and thousands more watching online, this was the biggest kickoff ever for National School Choice Week. The occasion is just the first of more than 3,500 independently planned special events that will be held across all 50 states.

Much of the crowd was made up of Arizona students who have benefited from the state’s dynamic school choice environment. With the first education reform laws passed in 1994, the Grand Canyon State has lead the nation in empowering parents to choose what’s best for their children’s academic success.

The students enjoyed a 45-minute set by the Jonas Brothers, but also heard from several speakers, including education reform pioneer Lisa Graham Keegan, co-founder of EduPrize Schools JoAnna Curtis, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, and several award-winning students.

Show Your Support of the 2nd Amendment: GUN APPRECIATION DAY 1/19/13

Sadly it’s come to this. Conservatives have gotten used to rallying behind business that have fallen out of favor with the Regime and its allies. Now it’s become necessary to rally behind the Second Amendment – the right to bear arms – a constitutional right that until recently was  considered to be rock-solid. Are we ready for this fight?

Via Doug Ross:

The national “Gun Appreciation Day,” which is being launched by a coalition of conservative and gun rights groups, will take place the day before California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is expected to introduce legislation for an assault weapon ban, and two days before President Barack Obama is inaugurated for his second term.

“We felt that there needed to be a swift, strong statement, Chick-fil-A style, to show that we’re not only here but we’re vocal,” Gun Appreciation Day chairman and president of Republican new media consulting firm Political Media, Inc., Larry Ward tells Whispers.

Other Gun Grabbing News:

The scapegoating of gun owners continues apace:

The Mental Recession: Liberal Site Posts List of All Gun Owners in NY City, Promptly Calls Them ‘A*******’

A New York newspaper serving the lower Hudson Valley caused quite a stir last month, when it published an interactive map of gun owners in the area.

Not to be outdone, the liberal website known as Gawker has decided to post a list of all gun owners in New York City, while promptly labeling everyone on the list as an “asshole”.

The list was assembled from various online sources along with a Freedom of Information Act which yields, according to the article, 1.2 million names along with 300,000 addresses.

Doug Ross: SHOCK, ANGER: Newspaper Publishes Map of Texas Gun Owners

FrontPageMagazine: America Doesn’t Have a Gun Problem, It Has a Gang Problem:

Chicago’s murder numbers have hit that magic 500. Baltimore’s murder toll has passed 200. In Philly, it’s up to 324, the highest since 2007. In Detroit, it’s approaching 400, another record. In New Orleans, it’s almost at 200. New York City is down to 414 from 508. In Los Angeles, it’s over 500. In St. Louis it’s 113 and 130 in Oakland.  It’s 121 in Memphis and 76 in Birmingham.

Washington, D.C., home of the boys and girls who can solve it all, is nearing its own big 100.

Those 12 cities alone account for nearly 3,200 dead and nearly a quarter of all murders in the United States. And we haven’t even visited sunny Atlanta or chilly Cleveland.

These cities are the heartland of America’s real gun culture. It isn’t the bitter gun-and-bible clingers in McCain and Romney territory who are racking up a more horrifying annual kill rate than Al Qaeda; it’s Obama’s own voting base.

MRC: Ten Outrageous Anti-Gun ’Journalists’:

The media agenda against guns is nothing new. But recent mass shootings have encouraged supposedly neutral journalists to push for gun regulation instead of reporting the facts surrounding the tragedies.

One thing the media seldom mention is that both the Newtown and Aurora shootings occurred in gun free zones. In the Clackamas Town Center Shooting in Oregon, however, a gunman was stopped when someone with a concealed carry permit intervened. There were only two casualties in this shooting which received little media attention. If this incident was mentioned, the concealed carry part of the story was almost completely ignored.

Some journalists have gone after after the NRA, calling for them to labeled “terrorist organizations” or lamented that they “yield too much power.” Others simply attacked any pro-gun advocate they had on their program. Still, a few went straight for the Constitution, with calls to “repeal the Second Amendment” or revise it. Many tried to imagine a world without guns … forgetting that even without guns, violence would still exist.

Via Politico:

Here is U.S. Marine Joshua Boston on “Fox & Friends” where he continues to articulately lay out the case for why Barack Obama and Diane Feinstein’s anti-2nd Amendment designs are wrong. Boston, in this interview, takes on the idea that “Gun-Free Zones” make people safer. As he so rightly points out, gun-free zones “advertise the hunting grounds for the predators in our society. It forces people to be disarmed.” He said current policies on most campuses around the country amounts to telling students, in the event there is an intruder, “Hide and hope for the best.”

Almost Forgot: It’s Papa John’s Pizza Night!

I’m a little late on this, but if you haven’t already had dinner – today has been designated, National Papa John’s Appreciation Day.

Please send your Papa John’s pictures and videos to rebootingDOTusaATgmailDOTcom

Papa Johns has been targeted by the left for a boycott, for simply articulating that ObamaCare would hurt profits and force cutbacks in employee hours. Stand up to this nonsensical and illogical action and support Papa Johns this Friday!

The CEO of Papa John’s, John H. Schnatter, has said that he will have to cut employee hours because of Obamacare. Schattner has received intense media scrutiny in addition to being demonized as an evil rich guy by the Left. Obamacare is a fiscal nightmare and because of it, many small businesses aren’t hiring now. Some are even closing their doors. Obamacare is now, as John Boehner said, “the law of the land.”In solidarity with John H. Schnatter, we propose that November, 16th, 2012 be National Papa John’s Appreciation Day. The Left thinks we are discouraged; they think they have won. Let’s send a clear message this Friday, like we did on Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, that we are here to stay and that we won’t stop fighting. There are over 2,600 Papa John’s stores in the United States. Let’s flood all of them like we flooded Chick-Fil-A.
How the event works:1. “Like” Papa John’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/papajohns

2. Change your Facebook avatar to the Papa Johns logo on Friday.

3. Go into your local Papa John’s this Friday, November 16th, and order a pizza. This will only be effective if you go into the store itself. Take a picture of your visit and your pizza, share it on your Facebook wall and/or tweet it with the hashtag #IStandWithPapaJohns

4. If you live further than a half hour from Papa Johns. Participate on twitter with the hashtag #IStandWithPapaJohns

Also: We would like to suggest that anyone participating in this event also purchase an additional pie to share with someone that is struggling right now. Perhaps a neighbor who lost a job, a food shelter, church group, afterschool program for kids in need…. There are many options, but please consider buying a pie to share!

Let’s send a clear message this Friday. Thank you, everyone.

This event was created by the team at @Reboot_USA

I’ll post a pic of our delicious pizza as soon as it arrives. The wait at local Papa John’s is currently an hour – they’re exceedingly busy, said the girl who took my order.

Mental Recession: Poll Worker Tells U.S. Senate Candidate She Has to Vote Democrat All the Way Down the Ballot:

A pretty disturbing report coming out of U.S. Senate candidate, Wendy Long’s campaign.  Apparently, a poll worker reviewed Long’s ballot and told her it would be rejected because she didn’t “fill in every space”.

When Long countered that you can indeed leave some sections of the ballot blank, the poll worker again indicated her ballot would be rejected.

Long correctly informed the worker that forcing a voter to vote in every race, would essentially result in that person being forced to vote for candidates they do not want.

The poll worker even went so far as to suggest Long should mark the Democratic line all the way down.

Outrage: The Hill: GOP senators: Thousands of ballots unlikely to reach military voters in time:

A group of Republican senators said Monday that thousands of voter ballots are unlikely to reach military service members until after Nov. 6.

One day ahead of the election, Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) sent a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to express their concern over delays in ballots reaching military voters overseas.

Gateway Pundit: Romney Campaign: GOP Turnout Looks Good in Ohio:

A rallying cry from Michael Walsh, NRO: Crush Them:

It’s not enough for the GOP to win tomorrow. It needs to win big, a win so convincing that even the Left won’t be able to explain it away. The definition of victory in war is not a 50.1 percent majority that allows the other side to keep fighting — it’s the battleship Missouri, on whose deck the losing side signs articles of capitulation. The modern Left — the unholy spawn of ’30s gangland and ’60s academic Marxism — must be forced to its knees in surrender.

There’s a honored place in our political system for a leftist party, one that pushes for improvement in areas that need improving, but not one devoted to revolutionary “fundamental change.” A vote for Romney tomorrow is a vote against the socialist elements that seized control of the JFK/Scoop Jackson Democratic party in 1972, and has worked against America’s best interests ever since. A vote for Romney tomorrow is a vote for a restoration of the old Jacksonian — Andrew, that is — Democratic party, a true populist party shorn of its Communist accretions that is every bit as all-American as the other guys. Unless and until this happens, though, the modern donkeys will continue their war on the Constitution, convinced they are on the side of the angels, and taking solace in the late Ted Kennedy’s words, “the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.”

It’s up to the electorate tomorrow to show them that the dream is really a nightmare, from which it’s time to awake, that the cause of America always endures, and the work of restoring our founding principles begins anew today.

It takes a lot of anecdotes to accumulate into critical mass and become “data,” and in any event we’ll know the election results soon enough.  But an interesting account comes from a correspondent in Wisconsin who proved an invaluable source of information during the Scott Walker recall drama: “Liberal areas of the state are seeing very light turn out, much lighter than for the Walker recall.  Conservative areas are seeing very heavy turnout, far heavier than for the Walker recall.  I think we are seeing a continuation of the “recall” against Gov. Walker, only it is in the form of voting for Romney, only this time, the Dems aren’t showing up.”

Weasel Zippers: UN Election Observers Shocked Americans Don’t Need To Show ID To Vote…

And why should we? Nobody cheats in America.

Via The Cable:

For the head of Libya’s national election commission, the method by which Americans vote is startling in that it depends so much on trust and the good faith of election officials and voters alike.

“It’s an incredible system,” said Nuri K. Elabbar, who traveled to the United States along with election officials from more than 60 countries to observe today’s presidential elections as part of a program run by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). Your humble Cable guy visited polling places with some of the international officials this morning. Most of them agreed that in their countries, such an open voting system simply would not work.

A legally credentialed poll watcher was threatened with a gun at a polling precinct in Detroit — an incident that state Republican leaders are calling an act of “outlandish” intimidation.

The poll watcher, a lawyer, was confronted by a voter who demanded that he show his credentials. The poll watcher complied with the request –but the voter objected and allegedly brandished a gun and badge and ordered him to leave the precinct.

The GOP observer was reportedly chased away by the unidentified gun-wielding individual.

John Hayward, Human Events: Election Day shenanigans: ballots shredded, voters ferried, Black Panthers return:

It just wouldn’t be a proper Election Day without all sorts of funny business going on at the polls.  The Black Panthers are back in Philadelphia, outside the same polling place where they flagrantly intimidated voters in 2008, to the mild amusement of Eric Holder’s Justice Department.  It looks like this time they’re not packing truncheons, and as long as they obey the rules and maintain the proper distance from voters, they have the same right to be there as anyone else.  They just seem to be the only ones that get away with wearing paramilitary uniforms while they’re “monitoring” elections.

A group called the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC sent the Nevada Secretary of State a letter citing reports accusing “the Culinary Union 226 of knowingly registering illegal immigrants and then pressuring them to vote,” according to a Fox News report.  One illegal immigrant is quoted as saying a union representative ominously warned he would be “in so much trouble” if he didn’t vote.    Somewhat improbably, the head of ALIPAC claimed Senator Harry Reid’s re-election victory in 2010 was due to illegal immigrant votes; and, quite unrealistically, he wants the Clark County voter rolls purged completely of illegal aliens in a single day.

Sorry, but that ship has sailed.  That’s why vote fraud defenders are so fiercely determined to block photo ID laws.  Very little can be done once Election Day rolls around, and it’s extremely unlikely that any subsequent test of ballot integrity would lead to overturning an election, particularly a presidential election.  The odds of fraudulent voters facing any sort of real consequences are slim, and even verbally reminding them of the potential penalties has been declared an act of racist voter suppression.  Election Day is the finish line for the voter-fraud crowd.

LAST POST BEFORE I MOVE TO A RESULTS THREAD:

Sunshine State Sarah: Ignore the exit polls. Here’s why.

You should completely ignore any results coming from exit polls. Here is why:

First of all, the traditional arrangement between the media outlets to gather exit polling data was significantly altered this year. They are not gathering data from a significant number of states, states which almost all lean right [insert your favorite conspiracy theory here].

Besides the limited data coming from this year’s exit polls, the information gathered from individual states is also not trustworthy. The 2004 exit polls predicted a John Kerry win, and many of the networks reported that, only to have to revoke their announcements later that night.

Video: Issa’s Opening Statement “The Security Failures of Benghazi”

Via The Committee on Oversight and Reform:

Key quote from his opening statement: It was the 9/11 anniversary that caused an organization aligned with al Qaeda to attack and kill our personnel…

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee leaders have sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asking why requests for more protection were denied to the U.S. mission in Libya by Washington officials prior to the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. The denials came after repeated attacks and security threats to U.S. personnel.

http://oversight.house.gov/release/oversight-presses-for-answers-diplomats-in…

“Based on information provided to the Committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador’s life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012. It was clearly never, as Administration officials once insisted, the result of a popular protest,” the committee’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and subcommittee chairman, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, write. “In addition, multiple U.S. federal government officials have confirmed to the Committee that, prior to the September 11 attack, the U.S. mission in Libya made repeated requests for increased security in Benghazi. The mission in Libya, however, was denied these resources by officials in Washington.”

The letter outlines 13 security threats over the six months prior to the attack.

“Put together, these events indicated a clear pattern of security threats that could only be reasonably interpreted to justify increased security for U.S. personnel and facilities in Benghazi,” the chairmen write.

The Committee indicated it intends to convene a hearing in Washington on Wednesday October 10, 2012, on the security failures that preceded the attack.

Oversight and Reform is livestreaming the hearing, here.

UPDATE:

CHAFFETZ: Moral Imperative To Thoroughly Investigate Security Failures in Benghazi:

“FOR ME, THE TALIBAN IS ON THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING:”

Former State Department Site Security Team Commander Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Wood said “we were fighting a losing battle,” adding that his team “couldn’t even keep what [the security] we had. We were not even allowed to keep what we had.”

“I told the same regional director in a telephone call in Benghazi after he contacted me when I asked for 12 agents,” Nordstrom said. “His response to that was, you’re asking for the sun, moon and the stars and my response to him — his name’s Jim — I said, ‘Jim, you know what makes — most frustrating about this assignment? It’s not the hardships, it’s not the gunfire, it’s not the threats,’” Nordstrom said. “’It’s dealing and fighting against the people, programs and personnel who are supposed to be supporting me,’ and I added it by saying, ‘For me, the Taliban is on the inside of the building.’”

Video: Paul Ryan Rocks the RNC

Reportedly, Paul Ryan worked on his speech for weeks, and it was a doozy. While it was a serious speech, he managed to zing Obama several times throughout, but as Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News afterward, it was “done more in sorrow than in anger”. It was a smart speech that addressed Medicare head on as only the wonkish Ryan can. We can already predict the unserious demagoguery the Obamacrats are going to deploy in Charlotte, next week, and it will fun to make a contrast.

Paul Ryan is sincere. He means what he says. Obama and the rest of the Dems Socialists who still stand with him will have nothing but scaremongering and lies to offer in Charlotte, and Obama’s lies are getting less convincing with each telling.

Part I

Part II

Part III

Videos via

Full prepared remarks of Paul Ryan’s RNC speech, here.

My favorite lines from the speech:

With all their attack ads, the president is just throwing away money — and he’s pretty experienced at that. You see, some people can’t be dragged down by the usual cheap tactics, because their ability, character, and plain decency are so obvious — and ladies and gentlemen, that is Mitt Romney.

President Barack Obama came to office during an economic crisis, as he has reminded us a time or two. (zing!)

The stimulus was a case of political patronage, corporate welfare, and cronyism at their worst. You, the working men and women of this country, were cut out of the deal. What did the taxpayers get out of the Obama stimulus? More debt. That money wasn’t just spent and wasted — it was borrowed, spent, and wasted.

Obamacare comes to more than two thousand pages of rules, mandates, taxes, fees, and fines that have no place in a free country.

So our opponents can consider themselves on notice. In this election, on this issue, the usual posturing on the Left isn’t going to work. Mitt Romney and I know the difference between protecting a program, and raiding it. Ladies and gentlemen, our nation needs this debate. We want this debate. We will win this debate.

It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new. Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind.

President Obama was asked not long ago to reflect on any mistakes he might have made. He said, well, “I haven’t communicated enough.” He said his job is to “tell a story to the American people” — as if that’s the whole problem here? He needs to talk more, and we need to be better listeners?

Ladies and gentlemen, these past four years we have suffered no shortage of words in the White House. What’s missing is leadership in the White House. And the story that Barack Obama does tell, forever shifting blame to the last administration, is getting old. The man assumed office almost four years ago — isn’t it about time he assumed responsibility?

My Mom started a small business, and I’ve seen what it takes. Mom was 50 when my Dad died. She got on a bus every weekday for years, and rode 40 miles each morning to Madison. She earned a new degree and learned new skills to start her small business. It wasn’t just a new livelihood. It was a new life. And it transformed my Mom from a widow in grief to a small businesswoman whose happiness wasn’t just in the past. Her work gave her hope. It made our family proud. And to this day, my Mom is my role model.

President Obama is the kind of politician who puts promises on the record, and then calls that the record.

College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.

None of us have to settle for the best this administration offers — a dull, adventureless journey from one entitlement to the next, a government-planned life, a country where everything is free but us.

We’re a full generation apart, Governor Romney and I. And, in some ways, we’re a little different. There are the songs on his iPod, which I’ve heard on the campaign bus and on many hotel elevators. He actually urged me to play some of these songs at campaign rallies. I said, I hope it’s not a deal-breaker Mitt, but my playlist starts with AC/DC, and ends with Zeppelin.

Each of these great moral ideas is essential to democratic government — to the rule of law, to life in a humane and decent society. They are the moral creed of our country, as powerful in our time, as on the day of America’s founding. They are self-evident and unchanging, and sometimes, even presidents need reminding, that our rights come from nature and God, not from government.

Dick Morris: Obama Has Assumed Dictatorial Powers!

You can count Dick Morris among the growing number of Americans horrified by the increasingly brazen behavior of the President.

In this Dick Morris Lunch Alert, he delved into some alarming developments which are not receiving much attention in the MSM. The National Defense Authorization Act, passed on New Years Day,  gives the government the power to detain American citizens, indefinitely and without trial. No other President has ever had that power, Morris claims.  And it turns out that although the Obama administration pretended not to want it, Carl Levin told reporters after it passed that White House negotiators had insisted on the provision.

Why the subterfuge?

In the March 16 Executive Order, Obama gave himself the right to take over all of the energy industry, (oil, coal, natural gas,  electricity) and to initiate a draft, unilaterally, without consent of congress not only in times of war, but during peacetime. An unprecedented, breathtaking power grab, he says.

If oil prices continue to go up, Morris suspects Obama will try to take over the oil industry – nationalize it, which he says will be the day we become a Socialistic dictatorship. Morris thinks Obama is more dangerous than ever because he understands he’s not going to get reelected and now has a scorched earth policy towards this country:

The two columns Dick Morris alluded to in the video:

Obama Assumes Dictatorial Powers:

The far reaching order authorizes the president “in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements.”

Likely the president already has most of the enumerated powers as part of his role as commander in chief. So, why the order right now?

Black speculates that it is related to the tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Is the president reminding big oil that he would take over their industry in the event of war? Or is Obama equipping himself with vast powers to be used even in peacetime as a result of whatever he decides is a “national emergency.” Could the rise in gas prices constitute such an “emergency?” Is the issuance of this order right now a shot across the bow of oil companies to get them to go easy on oil prices? Where are we? Stalinist Russia?

In any case, these two presidential signatures – one on a law and the other on an order – together constitute a massive power grab totally unsuited to a democracy. The idea that he would be preparing to assume dictatorial powers seems so remote that the mainstream media has not even reported on these initiatives. But they should give all of us pause.

Obama Tells Secrets To Russia:

President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are increasingly moving to strip America of vital defense capabilities through a web of international treaties and agreements. Already, Clinton is negotiating a code of conduct in outer space that would effectively ban our capacity to destroy satellites and put interceptor missiles in space.

Last week, the president announced that he was going to provide the Russians with detailed technical information about the anti-missile systems he plans to base in Eastern Europe, in the hopes of lessening Russian opposition to their deployment. He is exacting no reciprocal sharing of intelligence, nor can he be sure that Vladimir Putin will not just turn around and forward the gift package to North Korea or Iran.

Reuters noted that “the Obama administration is leaving open the possibility of giving Moscow certain secret data on U.S. interceptor missiles due to help protect Europe from any Iranian missile strike. A deal is being sought by Washington that could include classified data exchange because it is in the U.S. interest to enlist Russia and its radar stations in the missile-defense effort, a Pentagon spokeswoman said Tuesday.”

Read the whole piece. Morris’ conclusion, (he wasn’t kidding about “scorched earth”):

Sometimes I wonder if Obama knows he is going to be defeated and is embarking on a “scorched-earth” policy to weaken our nation and to hogtie us through international agreements before he leaves office, thus fulfilling the fondest desires of his friends like former terrorist Bill Ayers.

I know we have  been assured by many pundits on our own side that these power grabs don’t really represent a startling deviation from the way Presidents have always handled these matters.

Ann Barnhardt addressed that in a recent post:

We are concerned and even, dare I say it, panicked, because we can see the big picture of the Obama regime for what it is. We can take the totality of the dataset and draw not just a logical, reasoned conclusion, but a conclusion that is supported by centuries – nay millenia – of past precedent. We are, as Patrick Henry put it, “willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.”

Why is the 3/16/2012 Executive Order worthy of grave concern? Simply put, because of the man and the regime who issued it. This is a man, and a regime that has done the following:

-Sent the Secretary of Defense (Leon Panetta) to Congress to put them on notice that despite the explicitness of the Constitution, the consent of the Congress to wage war will neither be solicited nor required by the Commander in Chief or his regime. The CiC and SECDEF may, if they feel like it and can find the time, MAY inform the Congress of “kinetic military actions” henceforth.

-Declared the First Amendment null and void by mandating that every American must, as a condition of legal residency in the United States, pay for abortions. Mr. Morrissey, being a Catholic, you should understand that what the Obama regime has done is demand your very soul. In order to remain corporeally “free” in the United States of America, you must enter into mortal sin, reject Jesus Christ in totality, turn your back on your Crucified Savior, excommunicate yourself from the Church, and consign your immortal soul to eternal hell. If that isn’t the prohibiting of the free exercise of religion, then nothing is or ever could be.

-Committed acts of war upon the sovereign nation of Mexico and her people, willfully arming narco-terrorists with the intent of using the optics of hundreds if not thousands of brutally murdered Mexicans in order to stir up and justify the overthrow of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. This is textbook sedition.

-Has coordinated with regime cronies in the Legislative Branch to enable the Obama regime to operate for an entire term WITH NO BUDGET WHATSOEVER. In this time, the Obama regime has looted the United States Treasury and debased the currency of the United States to the tune of SEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS, or roughly one-half the gross domestic product.

This is just a very, very, very short list. Additionally, with each passing day it is being further revealed that EVERY SINGLE PERSON Barack Obama has ever associated with has been not merely a Marxist, not merely a Socialist, not merely a Communist, but a TOTALITARIAN hellbent on the destruction of the United States of America.

I’ll concede the point that if this Executive Order was issued by – get this – Jimmy Carter or even Bill Clinton, I could buy the idea that it was merely an emergency protocol housekeeping item of some sort geared toward the reaction of the Federal Government after a nuclear attack. I’d be skeptical, but I would be open to the argument.

Not so now. These people are totalitarian tyrants who are no longer even trying to hide their intentions. See the bulleted items above. There comes a point where you have to pull your head out of the sand, synthesize a massive dataset into its obvious, coherent output, and be willing to know the worst, and to provide for it.

I see it the same way.

Via Your Daddy’s Politics:

Breitbart titillated his audience  at CPAC when he announced that he had tapes from when Obama was in college, but he visited the bloggers lounge, I couldn’t get him to tell me what kind of dirt he had or when he would release it. According to The Victory Film Group’s Steve Bannon, it will be soon. Breitbart was “fired up about them”, he said.

Over 400,000 March For Life In Washington DC (Pics and Videos) UPDATE: Amended Total – Nearly 500,000

The Fox News headline: Anti-Abortion (as opposed to pro-life) Protesters March On Roe v Wade Anniversary, which means in the interest of being “fair and balanced”, they will call counter protesters, pro-abortion instead of  “pro-choice” protesters, right?

Neither cold temperatures nor pouring rain seemed to dampen the spirits of the tens of thousands who gathered for the annual March for Life in Washington on Monday. The march serves as an annual pro-life response to the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s landmark decision legalizing abortion in the U.S.

A number of lawmakers spoke at the rally launching the march, which began on the National Mall and proceeded several blocks to the steps of the Supreme Court. House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohio Republican, vowed to continue standing with pro-life advocates.

“We are heeding the voice of the people who overwhelmingly oppose taxpayer funding of abortion,” he said.

Though Boehner made clear he doesn’t believe being anti-abortion is a political position, many of the marchers said they view abortion as a key election year issue. The Rev. Frank Pavone, who heads Priests for Life, says 2012 is critical.

“You’re going to hear a lot of talk about getting ready for the elections and increasing the pro-life numbers that we have in the House and Senate and, of course, the White House,” he said.

Via Charlie Spiering of The Washington Examiner:

Boehner highlighted a bi-partisan House bill passed to codify the Hyde Amendment across the entire government, banning taxpayer funds from supporting abortion.

“I’ve never considered being pro-life a label or a political position, its just who I am.” said Boehner, “Its not just that I am pro-life its that we as a people are pro-life.” he said.

As always, he got just a little choked up talking about his eleven brothers and sisters, but he plowed on.

Yes, he can be maddeningly ineffective at times, but I love this man:

The President made a statement commemorating Roe v Wade, today, too:

Sick… Obama Says Abortion “Enables Our Daughters” to “Fulfill Their Dreams”:

Barack Obama released a statemtent this past weekend on the 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Decision. Obama said abortion “enabled our daughters” to “fulfill their dreams.”
Sick.

Pro-Lifers’ Taunt Obama: “Hey Obama, Yo Mama was Pro-Life!”, via Accuracy in Media:

“[Abortion is] a fundamental constitutional right…and as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.” the President said in a statement released on the 39th Anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision. Pro-Life marchers today reacted to these statements with broad condemnation of the President and his policies. The March for Life is an Annual Gathering in Washington DC in support of Pro-Life issues.

Catholic News Service reported on the strong youth presence at this year’s march:

Organizers said they believe the event attracted more participants than last year’s estimated 400,000.

The march was held one day after the 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States.

The Daily Caller’s Michelle Fields tweeted: This is by far the biggest protest I’ve ever been to in my life #MarchForLife

Matt Menendez, age 20, is the president of Harvard right to life. He explained that although the United States is largely pro-life, there are only a small minority of students at Harvard “who are willing to speak up” in defense of life.

“We’re always fighting an uphill battle,” he said. While the work is “very difficult,” it is also “very, very rewarding.”

He said that the group regularly receives calls and emails “from people who say they’re afraid to be prolife.”

Menendez described the group’s work as “fighting an intellectual battle” in the hopes of “opening discourse” on a topic that is considered somewhat “taboo” and is “often ignored” at Harvard.

“It’s really energizing to be part of that movement,” he said.

Luciana Milano, another member of Harvard’s right to life group, attended the march for the first time this year.  She explained that attending Harvard strengthened her pro-life views because she was forced to defend her beliefs to those who disagreed with her.

She said that although the experience “has been difficult,” it has made her “a stronger believer” in the dignity of all human life.”

Describing the march as “awesome,” Milano said that she was impressed and overwhelmed by the large number of people attending the event.

“The second that I saw large amounts of people, I almost cried,” she said.

The Anchoress: Pro-Lifers and the Truth-Phobic Press:

Watching yesterday on EWTN, I heard estimates of nearly half-million people marching peacefully and cheerfully, in the freezing rain, in support of life, which is — at its core, as Tim Muldoon writes — a march in support of love:

***

Unfortunately, the “big picture” is hard to come by, particularly if you’re looking for “big pictures” of this well-attended march. We have reached a remarkable era of photojournalism, as demonstrated by the once-noble Washington Post — one where a half million people can march, the headlines can call it “thousands” and the pictures show you none of it.

Someone asked me on Twitter, “why don’t they just report the truth” and I thought, “because they have given themselves wholly over to a lie, and they fear the truth. Having built up the lie for so long that it’s become their foundation, they know they cannot withstand an assault by the truth.”

So they have become truth-phobics, our mainstream media. They can’t tell you the truth about anything, anymore — they can only do whatever it takes to sustain the narratives they’ve constructed.

That’s why you hear no reports about Fast and Furious, or a member of the DOJ pleading the Fifth about that. It’s why you don’t hear about Solyndra and the “green jobs” myth it’s why you hear no caterwauling from the press about the fact that we are 1000 days into this administration without a budget.

You want the truth? You think you deserve it? The press can’t handle the truth; they can’t bring it to you.

2011…The Year When The Stupid Stupefied.

I suppose it was bound to happen. We’ve been building up to it for years, indoctrinating our youth instead of teaching them to think, and creating a climate where the right not to be offended was more cherished than the right to speak plainly, with the full knowledge that the intended recipients should be ashamed, rather than offended. Still, for me at least, it felt like in 2011, stupid reached critical mass, and started a chain reaction of stupid in everything that it touched. And as I watched, I felt…ennui.

I know that it, and other things kept shouting at my muse this year, until I rarely heard her sweet song, enticing me to tap out far fewer lines than I normally would. I just find it difficult to be either insightful or entertaining when my response to 93% of the headlines is “DUH!” and my response to 5% of the remaining 7% really shouldn’t be repeated in polite company anyway.

It was a year when we saw a key economic partner crippled by earthquakes and tsunamis, giving much fodder but little fact to the anti-nuke hysterics. A story that then faded from our conscience as our news outlets found new stories to hyperventilate about, despite the fact that the real story will continue to unfold for years.

It was yet another year when dissent equaled racism in the eyes of the people who believe their opinions should be our own, and tell us so at every opportunity. It isn’t surprising though. The criticism equals racism meme was getting almost as lonely as it was tired.

It was the year when spoiled entitled youth from across the country mounted a frontal assault on the very same capitalism that made it possible to tweet the “revolution” from their iPhones and blog about it on their Macbooks.

It was the year that the middle east erupted in protests against despotic leaders, so they could replace them with…despotic leaders…and terrorists. And in at least one case, it wasn’t enough for the Duffer-in-Chief to “Bear Witness”…he made sure we helped to replace the devil we knew with the one we didn’t. (Go ahead…call this racist, it won’t make you right or me wrong.)

It was a year in which we saw the Federal Government sue states for trying to enforce the same laws that the Federal Government refused to.  And it was a year in which we learned of the most incompetent plan to track illegal firearms and activies with them EVER…a plan that could only exist to curtail a Constitutional right, not make anyone safer.  Just ask Brian Terry, and scores of Mexican citizens…oh, that’s right…you can’t.  And, as predictable as Grandpa going to the bathroom after breakfast with the newspaper tucked under his arm, calling for the resignation of the Attorney General who appears to have known all about it is….wait for it…RACIST!!!!

It was the year in which we learned that needing an ID to drive, buy booze and cigarettes, apply for credit, get an apartment, and go to college was NOT racist, but requiring it before you let someone cast a ballot, IS. (Thank you, Uncle Facts.)

It was the year when our elected officials received the clearest warning yet given from the financial sector that spending more than it takes in is an invitation to ruin and doom…and their response was to ignore the real issue, point fingers at each other, and keep spending money it doesn’t have on things it has no lawful authority to do. I wish the stupid was confined to the government on this point, but our shame is double, since we keep letting them do this. I can’t think of any other situation where we hire people to perform certain duties for us, for which we pay them sums certain, only to have them decide that they also have to feed everyone in the next state, clothe them, make sure they get medical care, and in order to do it, they take out loans in our name, without our consent, and tell us that it will be fine, because it will actually be our kids and grandkids paying the loans back.

I’d like to live just long enough to see those same little children who were singing the creepy “dear leader-esque” songs to the serial vacationer in the Oval Office shouting his name in anger when they are all in their 40s, living in efficiency apartments and clothed in rags as they service the debt to pay off the Spendulous slush funds and payoffs, furious that he and the Senate that hasn’t passed a budget in years so blatantly stole their futures from them so they could live very comfortably in the now. I am sure that when my own sons are grown adults, Senator Reid’s name will be synonymous with corruption, shortsightedness, and FAIL!

It was the year in which we heard an entire party that at least understands the differences between an America that is strong, prosperous, and exceptional, as opposed to one that is gripped by economic decline and malaise, without focus, vision, or unity, decried as evil, mean people who want blacks hanging from trees, and old people and kids with autism to starve.

It was a year when an athlete who openly practiced his faith became a punchline for people too cowardly or too lazy to find and keep their own. And still, he prays. Thank you for that.

It was another year when those who believed in nothing, and had no standards or goals past living another year, and getting whatever they could continued to mock and critique those who do. It was another year when decency was something uttered with a sneer by people who could not or refused to find it in themselves.

It was another year when truth was there to be found by anyone diligent and humble enough to seek it, and accept it for what it is. It was a year in which I learned even more about the “Why?” relating to the design, and to my sorrow, many of the points of deviation.

It was a year when certain divisions became more pronounced, and certain outcomes began to feel more inevitable. It was sobering, and frustrating when I could see where so many people either sleepwalk through it, quietly accept it, or worst of all, embrace it.

My resolution for 2012? To make myself speak, rather than letting this show stun me in to silence for another year. I’m no different from many of you. I’ll be swept along in the tide of events along with every other average Joe and Jill.

But I’ll be damned if I go quietly.

Red Alert: Tell Your Senator To Vote To Overturn FCC’s Net Neutrality Power-Grab

Seton Motley reported on the upcoming vote at Big Government:

From most appearances, the Senate will this week vote on Senate Joint Resolution (S.J.Res) 6 – the Congressional Review Act Resolution of Disapproval of the Obama Administration Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s illegal Internet Net Neutrality power grab.

Only 51 votes are required for passage – which means only 4 Democrats are needed.  There are 23 Democrat Senate seats up for reelection next year.  A few of these folks aren’t running.  The rest are – many in center or center-right states.  Additionally, there are a few other Senators that should also be subject to Constitutional reason, and thusly contacted.

Watch Motley and AFP’s Phil Kerpen discuss the Senate Net Neutrality vote:

See Big Government for a list of Senators to contact and tell “vote Yes on S.J.Res 6.”

Boehner On Biden’s Tacit Approval of China’s One-Child Forced Abortion Policy: “I Hope and Trust a Correction or Clarification From the White House Will Be Forthcoming”

Good for Speaker Boehner for issuing a strong response to the egregious statement our Vice President made in China giving tacit approval to their brutal forced abortion policy.

Within the blink of an eye, our  leaders have gone from full-throated, unambiguous condemnation of China’s inhumane one child policy to “fully understanding”,  ” not second-guessing” it.

Via Kathryn Jean Lopez at NRO:

The Speaker of the House responds to Joe Biden’s apparent empathy for China’s one-child policy: “I’m deeply troubled by the comments reportedly made by the Vice President yesterday regarding China’s reprehensible one-child policy, which has resulted in forced sterilizations and coerced abortions and should not be condoned by any American official. No government on Earth has the authority to place quotas on the value of innocent human life, or to treat life as an economic commodity that can be regulated and taken away on a whim by the state. I hope and trust that the Vice President didn’t actually say what has been reported, and that a correction or clarification from the White House will be forthcoming. The Obama administration should be focusing on jobs for the American people, not encouraging foreign governments to utilize abortion as a means of population and deficit control.”

Some walk-back will almost certainly be forthcoming but I strongly doubt that this particular administration with its neo-Malthusian bent really has a problem with the policy.

Geithner 4/2011: “No Risk” U.S. Will Lose AAA Credit Rating – 8/2011: Standard and Poor’s Lowers America’s Long-Term Rating To ‘AA+’ – Longterm Outlook Negative (With Updates)

A synopsis of S & P’s analysis:

  • We have lowered our long-term sovereign credit rating on the United States of America to ‘AA+’ from ‘AAA’ and affirmed the ‘A-1+’ short-term rating.
  • We have also removed both the short- and long-term ratings from CreditWatch negative.
  • The downgrade reflects our opinion that the fiscal consolidation plan that Congress and the Administration recently agreed to falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government’s medium-term debt dynamics.
  • More broadly, the downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges to a degree more than we envisioned when we assigned a negative outlook to the rating on April 18, 2011.
  • Since then, we have changed our view of the difficulties in bridging the gulf between the political parties over fiscal policy, which makes us pessimistic about the capacity of Congress and the Administration to be able to leverage their agreement this week into a broader fiscal consolidation plan that stabilizes the government’s debt dynamics any time soon.
  • The outlook on the long-term rating is negative. We could lower the long-term rating to ‘AA’ within the next two years if we see that less reduction in spending than agreed to, higher interest rates, or new fiscal pressures during the period result in a higher general government debt trajectory than we currently assume in our base case.

You can read their full report at the link.

Turbo Tax-Timmy said there was no chance that would happen just a few months ago:

The Hill reported  04/19/11 10:33 AM ET:

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said Tuesday there is “no risk” the U.S. will lose its top credit rating amid a new analysis that revised its outlook on American debt to “negative.”

Geithner took to the airwaves of financial news networks to push back against a report Monday by Standard & Poor’s that lowered its outlook on U.S. debt to “negative,” reflecting political uncertainty over whether lawmakers will reach an agreement to address long-term debt.

There is no chance that the U.S. will lose its top credit rating, Geithner said, forcefully disputing the notion that S&P or other ratings services might downgrade U.S. bonds from their current AAA rating.

“No risk of that, no risk,” Geithner said on the Fox Business Network.

It should be noted that Republicans always were willing to “increase revenues” by closing tax loopholes etc, but the tax hikes Dems wanted to put on the $200,000-$250,000 club, AKA, small businesses, AKA job producers, killed the deal.

As Cantor explained in the The Wall Street Journal, today:

Somewhat surprisingly, Mr. Cantor was in fact prepared to bargain on about $20 billion in higher taxes on “the shiny balls of the millionaires, billionaires, jet owners and oil companies” that Mr. Obama so often mentioned in public. “If they wanted to be able to claim the win on that,” Mr. Cantor says, he wanted net revenue neutrality in return, by lowering the corporate income tax rate or perhaps enacting an even larger tax reform. In effect, he was calling Mr. Obama’s bluff on “cheap politics.”

In private, however, the debate always returned to the status of the top marginal rate for individuals earning over $200,000 and $250,000 for couples—aka the Bush tax cuts for people who do not own private aircraft. Mr. Cantor argued that some large portion of the income that flows through the top bracket comes from “pass-through entities”—that is, businesses—and “to me, that strikes at the core of what I believe should be the policy, and that is to provide incentives for entrepreneurs to grow.”

By contrast, he says, “Never was there ever an underlying economic argument” from Democrats. “It was all about social justice. Honestly, one of them said to me, ‘Some people just make too much money.’”

Make no mistake. The US lost its AAA credit rating because of the Marxist thinking on Capital Hill, and in the White House.

Hot Air reported, last night:

The GOP was planning to push their message for a balanced-budget amendment during the August recess. The downgrade will help that effort, but I wonder after this whether we’ll have an August recess after all. Is Congress really going to sit back for another four weeks while the economy tries to cope with this news?

Since President Obama took office in January 2009, the United States has embarked on the most ambitious failed experiment in Washington meddling in US history. Huge increases in government spending, massive federal bailouts, growing regulations on businesses, thinly veiled protectionism, and the launch of a vastly expensive and deeply unpopular health care reform plan, have all combined to instill fear and uncertainty in the markets. Free enterprise has taken a backseat to continental European-style interventionism, as an intensely ideological left wing administration has sought to dramatically increase the role of the state in shaping the US economy. The end result has been a dramatic fall in economic freedom, sluggish growth, poor consumer confidence, high unemployment, a collapsing housing market, and an overall decline in US prosperity, with more than 45 million Americans now reliant on food stamps – that’s over one seventh of the entire country.

Philip Klein, Washington Examiner: Obama won’t escape blame for credit downgrade

When Obama came into office, he argued that we needed deficit spending to boost the economy, so he passed a $800 billion stimulus package. Then, in one of his first supposed pivots to the deficit, he convened a ‘fiscal responsibility summit’ in February 2009. But that actually turned out to be part of a different pivot altogether. It was during that summit that then White House Budget Director Peter Orszag declared, “health care reform is entitlement reform.”

And so, for the next 13 months, Obama spent all of his energies trying to get health care legislation across the finish line. The end product was a plan that, according to both the Congressional Budget Office and actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, did not bend the health care cost curve down.  Let’s even set aside the argument over the accounting gimmicks that were employed to obtain a CBO score that showed modest deficit reduction. The reality is this: the law used money raised through tax hikes and Medicare cuts that otherwise would have been available for deficit reduction, to instead expand Medicaid by 18 million beneficiaries and create a massive new health care entitlement.

Tine Korbe, Hot Air: Huckabee: Trump should replace Geithner

Ed made the case this morning as to why Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner must go (and he should!), but, so far, little discussion has focused on who his successor should be. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee decided to start that ball rolling with a sensational suggestion. Political Ticker reports:

Amid calls by the GOP for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s resignation, one Republican is offering an unorthodox choice for a potential replacement.

“Ask Donald Trump to be Treasury secretary,” Mike Huckabee said on Fox News Channel.

The former Arkansas governor elaborated: “Have Donald Trump take the job for 90 days. It’s a game changer.”

ATF Phoenix Manager shared Fast and Furious Info with White House (With Videos)

email graphic via Sipsey Street Irregulars

ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office, Bill Newell was squirming on the hot seat in Tuesday’s Fast and Furious hearing on Capitol Hill. As CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson reports, Newell admitted to corresponding with White House National Security Director, Kevin O’Reilly about the ATF’s gunrunning operations:

At a lengthy hearing on ATF’s controversial gunwalking operation today, a key ATF manager told Congress he discussed the case with a White House National Security staffer as early as September 2010. The communications were between ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office, Bill Newell, and White House National Security Director for North America Kevin O’Reilly. Newell said the two are longtime friends. The content of what Newell shared with O’Reilly is unclear and wasn’t fully explored at the hearing. It’s the first time anyone has publicly stated that a White House official had any familiarity with ATF’s operation Fast and Furious, which allowed thousands of weapons to fall into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels in an attempt to gain intelligence.

It’s unknown as to whether O’Reilly shared information with anybody else at the White House. Congressional investigators obtained an email from Newell to O’Reilly in September of last year in which Newell began with the words: “you didn’t get this from me.” “What does that mean,” one member of Congress asked Newell, ” ‘you didn’t get this from me?’ ” “Obviously he was a friend of mine,” Newell replied, “and I shouldn’t have been sending that to him.”

Issa tried to get Newell to admit that he allowed thousands of guns to walk.

One of the whistleblowers,  Special Agent Canino, whom Newell claimed knew about the operation,  testified that “at no time EVER did he know that ATF agents were following known suspected gun traffickers (one of whom bought 700 guns)…..never, ever would I imagine that we would let that happen…..I had no clue that we were allowing these guys to operate like this……there was no interdiction to start any case…” At the end of this video, Newell was asked about his correspondence with White House National Security Director for North America, Kevin O’Reilly, who has been described by Sipsey Street Irregular’s sources as  “a ghost,”  “sheep-dipped,”  “a doctrinaire liberal”,   a “snake in a suit,” and a “sociopath” with the nickname, “The Scorpion,” (as in the story of The Frog and the Scorpion). Sounds like just the sort of charmer who belongs in this White House:

Rep. Chaffetz demanded to know when Newell finally realized he was allowing guns to walk. He couldn’t get a straight answer because Newell claims he didn’t see it that way…

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who has had direct and indirect experience with the ATF for 10 years, focused on why it was conducting the operation in the jacked-up manner it did, “Why do it this way? It was never going to work!”

The Latest On the Debt Ceiling Talks

I’ve been keeping up on the news during our mini  weekend mini-vacay and  I’m typing this in haste as the fam packs up to leave our hotel room and head back home, so excuse any typos I make.

Last night, news came out that Reid was folding“throwing in the towel” with a deal had cuts in spending greater than the increase in the debt ceiling, a raising of the debt ceiling that will take us into 2013, allowing it to be a campaign issue for 2012, and no tax increases.

If that sounds too good to be true, it’s because it probably is. We’ve yet to see details about the cuts Reid is willing to make. Remember, we are dealing with Democrat Socialists, here, who are absolutely wedded to their left-wing constituencies.

A dubious Phillip Klein at the Washington Examiner threw cold water on Reid’s towel, turning it into a wet blanket:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., telegraphed the likely approach during a Friday session with liberal bloggers. Talking Points Memo’s Brian Beutler quoted Pelosi as saying, “We could use the offshore — the Overseas Contingency [the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan] — could take us to two-and-a-half trillion dollars.”

In other words, if you count the savings from ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq — which are expected to end over the next 10 years anyway — add some additional discretionary spending cuts and assume lower interest payments, it could reach the number that Reid is proposing.

However, such a proposal wouldn’t represent $2.5 trillion in real cuts, nor would it even start to address the trajectory of our long term debt, which the rating agencies said puts us at a risk for a downgrade, even if the debt ceiling is raised.

Whatever the specifics in the in the deal were, without the tax hikes, they weren’t good enough for Obama, Ed Morrissey reports:

If this is true, then Barack Obama just took full and complete ownership of the debt-ceiling crisis and whatever ensues:

A Republican aide e-mails me: “The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no.”

Jen Rubin writes that “the President is playing with fire” if this report is correct, and that’s most certainly true.  This might also explain why Reid turned around and decided to offer a bill that basically meets Republican demands.  If Obama won’t accept a bipartisan compromise from Reid and McConnell, then Reid might as well just let Obama deal with Boehner instead.

As I’m sure you can imagine, Obama is handling it all with typical self-effacing modesty: Obama: I’m Dealing With Debt-Ceiling Negotiations Like Abraham Lincoln Did With Slavery…

Obama’s politically calculated insistence on a long term deal that takes him safely through the 2012 election is “Lincolnesque” how exactly?

Oh, the huge sacrifices that he’s making….National Crisis: Obama Cancels Two Monday Night Fundraisers Because Of Debt Ceiling Impasse:

A campaign official for President Barack Obama tells CNN the president has cancelled two political fundraising appearances Monday night because of the debt ceiling situation. The president’s week-ahead schedule, released Friday night, stated he was to attend two Democratic National Committee events in Washington Monday evening. But the events were not listed on a schedule released Sunday night.

And even more tragic, he may have to postpone his lavish birthday party/fund-raiser/community organizer extravaganza on August 3, if Congress doesn’t get their act together, and eat their peas like the lecturer in Chief told them.

Our modern day Lincoln did take time away from debt talks, today To Push For Amnesty During Speech To La Raza Conference…

UPDATE:

Byron York, Washington Examiner: Reid played key role on debt bill before Obama nixed plan:

“I think Reid wants to get this done,” says the senior Republican.  “The problem is, the White House is so far out on a limb on vetoing anything that doesn’t get Obama through the 2012 election that it’s now kind of personal.”  For Reid to keep working with the GOP would be a slap at the president and leader of the Democratic party — a virtually impossible scenario for the Majority Leader.

So with the debt deadline still approaching, what does Reid do now?  He is said to be working on his own bill, which will include a reported $2.7 trillion in cuts, made up mostly of what Republicans call “paper savings” from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  (Those “paper savings” involve counting money that was never going to be spent on those wars as new spending cuts.)  It’s not clear whether Reid will introduce his own bill or try to attach it to something else.

That’s what the Dems have to offer: Lame smoke and mirrors stuff. They’ve dug in.
At this point, I can think of a lot of things Obama should be impeached for.
McConnell is reportedly very bitter about how things have shaken out: McConnell: Debt deal ‘was literally within our reach’In an angry speech on the Senate floor, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans and Democrats were tantalizingly close to an agreement to resolve the debt ceiling standoff over the weekend — until President Obama nixed the deal.  “A bipartisan plan to resolve this crisis was literally within our reach this weekend,” McConnell said.  “We offered the president a bipartisan proposal to avoid default so that we could have the time we need to put together a serious plan for getting our house in order.  He rejected it out of hand.”

Progressives are calling Reid’s plan “a cave” because there are no tax hikes, and since most of the cuts are of the imaginary variety, it’s unpalatable to Republicans, as well. This one is probably dead in the water, too.

UPDATE:
-
Of course he does. Massive tax hikes were always part of his agenda, even when he was promising tax reductions for 95% of us.

Fox News has received details of the “Two-Step Approach to Hold President Obama Accountable” that Speaker John Boehner will pitch to his fellow House Republicans Monday at closed-door conference meeting. The pitch centers on new legislation that includes a $1.2 trillion cap on discretionary spending.

The approach was received from a senior GOP leadership aide and reads as follows:

Two-Step Approach to Hold President Obama Accountable

Republicans insisted if the President wants his debt ceiling increase, the American people will require serious spending cuts and reforms. This two-step approach meets House Republicans’ criteria by (1) making spending cuts that are larger than any debt ceiling increase; (2) implementing spending caps to restrain future spending; and (3) advancing the cause of the Balanced Budget Amendment – without tax hikes on families and job creators. While this is not the House-passed “Cut, Cap, & Balance,” it is a package that reflects the principles of Cut, Cap, & Balance.

The plan includes cuts that exceed the debt hike, caps to control future spending, a balanced budget amendment, entitlement reforms and savings, and no tax hikes.

Drew at AoSHQ thinks this one may have a chance:

As Boehner said, it’s not “Cut, Cap and Balance” but that died in the Senate. This is in that spirit and it might pass. Given that we only have control over 1 out of 3 political levers of power, that’s not bad. Serious entitlement reform along the lines of the Ryan plan was never on the table with a Democratic Senate and Obama in the White House. Plus, it cuts Obama out so he gets no credit or his “balanced” (aka “hike taxes’), so Mr. Adult in the Room looks like the brat he is being dragged along, kicking and screaming.

If, big if, Boehner can pull this off and it’s acceptable to the majority of the House GOP caucus, he just might end up rolling Obama, Reid and the Gang of 6 in the Senate. Not a bad days work. I won’t even make fun of him if he cries when it’s done.

One more thing:

Dems spread the narrative, today, that Paul Ryan’s budget proposal had the same phoney military budget cuts as Reid’s plan does. I didn’t report it because I figured they were lying, but didn’t have time to check it. (Dems rely on that, you know – people being too busy or lazy to check their b.s.)
