CT Collectivist Gun Grabber Ruthlessly Exposed By Sipsey Street Irregulars

And how. If you haven’t yet read Mike Vanderboegh’s superb expose and  take-down of Michael Lawlor, Connecticut Governor Dannell Malloy’s “hatchet man” on the State’s gun control efforts, you need to stop everything and read it, right now. Take it all in and know that there are many more such men and women peppered throughout the Democrat/Media Complex – right to the highest reaches of government. And I do mean highest.

Michael Lawlor CT Office of Policy & Mgt

“You can either surrender the weapon to us, destroy the weapon, or sell it to a federal firearms licensee. After that date (January 1) that hasn’t been declared or register is banned and if you get caught, you’re going to get arrested.” — Michael Lawlor.

An Open Letter to Michael Lawlor, the CT Governor’s Hatchet Man on Firearms Confiscation. “How’s your KGB file hangin’, Mike?”

You know it is quite ironic that on the morning I sit down to write this letter we discover that Adam Lanza (whose evil deeds were the supposed excuse for your Intolerable Act) was something of a twisted fellow traveler of collectivism being an apparently homosexual, environmentalist vegan who was anti-Christian enough to forbid his mother to put up a Christmas tree. “Gee,” I thought when I read that, “This kid could have grown up to be a Connecticut Democrat politician.” That he provided the bloody excuse for tyrant wannabes such as yourself is certainly the Devil’s own joke — send a collectivist killer to enable future collectivist power. Old Scratch must be laughing his ass off.

You know after just a cursory reading of your biography here and here, I realized that I owed you an apology. Previously I had described you as Malloy’s “Eichmann.” But Eichmann was a rather colorless bureaucrat, defining as Hannah Arendt spelled out, “the banality of evil.” But you, sir, are no bureaucratic handmaiden of evil. No, to call you an Eichmann would require an apology to both you and Eichmann. You, sir, are a true believer — more of a Heydrich than an Eichmann. Or, if you raise a Godwin’s objection, shall we say a Felix Dzerzhinsky? Yes. Dzerzhinsky is certainly more fitting.

I note that while you were at UConn in 1977 you “participated in language studies in Russia in 1977″ at Moscow and Leningrad. You then earned a Master’s Degree in Soviet Area Studies from the University of London in 1981. You were, what, 20 when you first experienced the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War? It must have fascinated you early on in life. Yet after you got your Masters in Soviet Area Studies from the University of London at a time when that and other British universities were prime recruiting grounds for KGB “political warfare” assets, and you subsequently “received a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship to study economic reform in Hungary in 1982,” you decided to change course and become, in quick succession, a lawyer, a prosecutor and then a Democrat Party politician.

Why the change, Mike?

Your KGB file might provide some clues along those lines, of course. I had a long chat with a former CIA Cold Warrior who is intimately familiar with the KGB infiltration and subversion tactics of the time of your stay in the Soviet Union. He says that you certainly have a KGB file and had a KGB officer assigned to your case with the object of making an asset of you. No one from the United States got into the Soviet Union back then without the close inspection of the KGB. NO ONE.

And what would the KGB be looking for, I asked? “A lot of dewy-eyed kids were going to the Soviet Union back then with this fascination for the other side. They thought the Vietnam War proved the evil nature of American society and they wanted to see what the other side was like. So they (the KGB) would look for someone with those misconceptions and then look for other vulnerabilities. And their recruitment operations were vast. VAST.” What other vulnerabilities? I asked.

“For one, homosexuality or other sexual deviance,” he answered. He drew my attention to these passages regarding the Prime case from The New KGB: Engine of Soviet Power by William Corson and Robert Crowley:

Prime exhibited most of the disabilities on the KGB check list and more than qualified as a target for recruitment. A loner, a young man with sexual problems and someone who, by his own admission, believed that the downtrodden of the world would fare better under communism. Such symptoms and attitudes assured that, at an appropriate moment, he would fall into the Soviet bag. The case is not a tribute to the Soviets’ prescience but another instance of their readiness for an event such as Prime’s self-selection, their single-minded patience, clerical effort, and corps of competent case officers who were trained and fully aware of what their jobs entailed.

In Berlin the Soviet support nets are massive. In addition to surveillance, drivers, couriers, police, and postal employees, they include “swallows” who specialize in foreigners who enjoy mild or other forms of perversion. . . The KGB’s ‘girls’ . . . provide the organs with volumes of information about their clients. . . The girls are also alerted to spot the six “d’s” — discontent, disaffection, depression, drunkenness, desperation, and sexual dysfunction — nany one of which might provide a future lever. — pp. 390-361.

It is a matter of record that after being long in the closet, you “came out” only in 2006.

Of course Prime was not a homosexual but the KGB did not lack for male “swallows” if their target had those appetites.

Read the whole thing, here.

UPDATE:

And now there’s…

My Second Open Letter to Mike Lawlor — On “Nightcrawlers” and Treason Played for Laughs. We’ve already established that you are willing to sell out your country. Now we’re just haggling about the price.

MBV Note to Readers: In my first letter to Connecticut’s own Felix Dzerzhinsky,Mike Lawlor, we explored the subject of that tyrannical collectivist’s KGB file. The response to that missive was very gratifying, as well as rewarding in terms of further clues and offers of assistance. I hope you like this letter as much as you liked the first.
***

You know, it’s the arrogance about you collectivist pricks that always strikes me as ironically misplaced. You’re always the smartest guy in the room, dispensing orders from on high as if to the purple born, yet when it comes to the important things you really aren’t all that bright.

Take that slip you made in the interview when you played the subject of treason for laughs. Of course you have long thought yourself safe from scrutiny of any questions about what you were up to back in the 70s and early 80s. But mentioning that a. you had tried to get a job with the CIA right out of law school and b. that they had turned you down, well, even to a guy like me who’s nothing particularly special other than an amateur student of history, why, that’s just plain stupid.

It raises so many questions and reinforces the ones I’ve already asked. Why would the CIA, at the height of the Cold War when it needed every trustworthy Russian speaker and analyst, turn you down? I guess the key word there is “trustworthy.” The CIA, and not because of the bad joke, must have found compelling reasons to find you untrustworthy. That must have stung, huh? Not that you weren’t accepted — you would play that for laughs, for you are the smartest guy in the room and that just proves their stupidity, right? As a homosexual you already were struggling with issues of identity, loyalty, societal trust, etc. And again, homosexuality is not the issue. It is not now, nor was it then, grounds (by itself) for exclusion from employment by the CIA. According to my sources, the Agency knowingly hired many homosexuals from its inception onward as long as it was convinced of their loyalty, their trustworthiness. And, my sources say, as long as that was understood up front there was no blackmail risk and the Agency only very rarely was proved wrong about their pick.

So why did they turn you down, Mike? What was it that they spotted about you? I am told by sources who were once in a position to know that you have not only a KGB file and a CIA file, but an FBI file as well. We’ll never get anything out of the CIA, but I wonder what a FOIA of the FBI might turn up? Have you got the juice to work your will upon the Fibbies as well?

And again, why apply to the CIA at all? Why did you change your career from Soviet Studies academic to zealous public prosecutor seeking the brass ring of political power? You are a public official. These are legitimate questions. Not that I expect an answer from you, at least not a written one.

CNN: Another Fast and Furious Gun Shows Up at Murder Scene in Mexico (Video)

One of the more disgraceful legacies of Eric Holder’s tenure as Obama’s Attorney General, is the increased bloodshed we will be dealing with in the years to come on both sides of the Southern border because of his  criminally stupid false flag Operation Fast and Furious..

Mediaite reported:

A CNN report broadcast on Tuesday revealed that guns released to Mexican gangs as part of the Fast and Furious “gun-walking” operation are continuing to show up at scenes of violence sound of the American border. According to the CNN report, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives acknowledged that more weapons released into Mexico are likely to continue surfacing in the coming years.

During an interview in October of 2011, an inscensed Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu blasted Atty General Holder for engaging in what he called a cover-up and outright conspiracy which has “risen to the level of criminal.” He claimed that his deputies and American citizens in general will be facing the barrels of the Fast and Furious guns well into the future. “We couldn’t make this stuff up in our wildest nightmares,” he said.

“2000 semi automatic, fully automatic AK 47s, 50 caliber rifles, my deputies don’t even have this firepower in AZ and we’ve given it to these people we’re fighting, and now the Atty General of Mexico has been attacking the US publicly, demanding accountability, demanding criminal charges against the government. And President Obama who’s gone on this worldwide tour to apologize for America (which I’ve always disagreed with, and been embarrassed by) – the one apology he should be making is to Mexico. 200+ people according to their attorney general have been murdered – have been killed by these very weapons that Holder and his group of accomplices have handed to them. And now, Brian Terry a hero in our border patrol, who served as a police officer, who served in the US Marine Corps, was murdered on American soil, in my state, and you’re about to hear the Sheriffs out here unleash upon Eric Holder. We asked for help to fight against the cartels, to fight illegal immigration, secure the border, and what we got back was a lawsuit, to sue our state, to fight us for  enforcing the law – the very job that we’re sworn to do – put up billboard signs in my county warning American citizens that it’s not safe to travel because of drug cartels, and now they’ve armed the very enemy we’re fighting…This for us is more than personal — our deputies, our citizens are going to be facing in the future the barrels of guns that our own government has given to criminals. We couldn’t make this stuff up in our wildest nightmares.”

He went on, “this clearly was a plot by our government (I’ve never been one to buy into conspiracies – but this is as clear as day to me) It’s as clear as day to me this was an effort by Barack Obama, Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano to make an aggressive assault against 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms…”

Fast and Furious Whistleblower: Questions Remain Unanswered – ‘It’s Not Over’ (Video)

Back in October, The Weekly Standard reported that the ATF had denied ‘Fast and Furious’ whistleblower John Dodson the right to publish his book, using the excuse that the agency is allowed approval over “outside employment.”

As if to thoroughly burnish the ATF’s deserved reputation for incompetence, here is the note the bureau sent Dodson denying his request to publish his book, as quoted in the Washington Post: “This would have a negative impact on morale in the Phoenix [field division] and would have a detremental [sic] effect on our relationships with [the Drug Enforcement Administration] and FBI.”

On CBS This Morning, Monday, Sharyl Attkisson touted Dodson as “a rare example, especially amid the Obama administration’s war on leaks” because he has been able to keep his job, while most whisteblowers in the Obama era end up losing their jobs.

His new book, “The Unarmed Truth, My Fight to Blow the Whistle and Expose Fast and Furious, was eventually cleared for publication, but Dodson is forbidden from collecting compensation for it because of ethics rules.

Via MRC:

Attkisson, whose reporting on the arms trafficking scandal won CBS a Edward R. Murrow Award, spotlighted the ATF senior agent’s new book on “the inside story of why he went public to expose the government’s false denials about its gunwalking secrets.”

The correspondent also pointed out how “there’s still a court battle over the ‘Fast and Furious’ documents that President Obama is withholding from Congress under executive privilege“. She also featured a clip from Dodson where he emphasized that this is an ongoing controversy that deserves more media attention: [MP3 audio available herevideo below]

JOHN DODSON: Part of all of this is to try to make people realize that it hasn’t all been answered. You know, it’s not – it’s not over. It’s just that you’ve forgotten about it. You’ve been – you know, diverted. Don’t look at my left hand – look at my right. What’s going on over here? These things haven’t been answered, and you can make a difference. Ask the questions!

Meanwhile, the Regime is appealing a judicial ruling from September: a federal judge ruled that the Obama administration could not have the lawsuit over the administration’s executive-privilege in the Operation Fast and Furious case thrown out.

The Obama administration had invented some argumentative blather about the federal courts having no basis for arbitrating the dispute because it would mean that all document fights between Congress and the administration could end up in court rather than being resolved through good-faith negotiation, or something.

District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson (an Obama appointee, by the way) all but laughed that silly excuse out of court: “Dismissing the case without hearing it would in effect place the court’s finger on the scale, designating the executive as the victor based solely on his untested assertion that the privilege applies. … The Court rejects the notion that merely hearing this dispute between the branches would undermine the foundation of our government, or that it would lead to the abandonment of all negotiation and accommodation in the future, leaving the courts deluged with subpoena enforcement actions,” she wrote — and the Obama administration certainly didn’t like that.

A couple of weeks ago, the DOJ appealed that decision..

The new motion (posted here) asks Jackson to allow the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to weigh in on that question before the case continues.

“Absent settlement (which depends on the willingness of both parties to achieve a negotiated resolution), or an immediate appeal, this Court will proceed toward deciding the scope of the President’s assertion of Executive Privilege in response to a congressional demand, and will do so absent a definitive ruling from the Circuit that such a novel judicial inquiry, in a suit instituted by a Committee of Congress, is appropriate under the law, including the Constitution,” the DOJ motion argues.

Saturday Movie Matinee: Highlights From The NRA Leadership Forum

Gun rights supporters are gathered in Houston, Friday and Saturday for the NRA’s first meeting since successfully fending off the Obama administration’s push to enforce stricter gun laws.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry addresses the crowd at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, an event of the 2013 NRA Annual Meetings in Houston, Texas. Perry argues that gun control sells the false premise that it is solving a problem, when all it does is make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves.

“The media and the political elites, they denigrate us and they cringe at the sight of long lines at gun shows around this country. They mock Americans buying firearms at a record pace…they don’t get it because they don’t get America,” LaPierre said.

After President Barack Obama said the NRA “willfully lied” to the American people about defeated gun legislation last month, LaPierre noted how Obama had tried to reassure gun owners during his re-election campaign.

“Liars? Really?” LaPierre said. “This from a man who spent his entire re-election campaign saying he supported our Second Amendment rights and would never try to take anyone’s gun away. And he calls us liars?”

Before Taya Kyle, the wife of slain Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, even said a word, the crowd at the National Rifle Association Leadership Forum was on their feet giving her the longest standing ovation of the day. Just before she took the stage, a video honoring Kyle was shown at the Houston event.

“I challenge anyone to tell me there isn’t evil in this world,” Kyle said, her voice drenched in emotion. “From the days of Cain and Abel, we know all too well there will always be evil. But that evil shouldn’t take away our freedoms. In fact, the only way to defeat evil is by taking advantage of our freedoms.

Kyle went on to talk about the side of her husband that people never knew.

“First, promise me that you won’t think of Chris solely as a hero. He wouldn’t want that. Instead, I ask you to see him the way he would’ve wanted you to see him. As just an everyday boy who did his best at what he loved, growing into an everyday man, loving his God, loving his country…and loving his family,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye as the audience interrupted her with applause.

For casting a ballot the standard is as low as an unspecified utility bill, a pay stub, or a bank statement. Fast and Furious President Blames U.S. For Gun Violence In Mexico

USA-OBAMA-MEXICO

Image via The Washington Post

Two and a half years after one of his administration’s Fast and Furious guns killed border patrol agent, Brian Terry, and even as the guns continue to kill Mexican citizens, Obama used his trip to Mexico as a pretext to push for gun control, blaming our lax gun laws for gun violence in Mexico.

No one ever accused him of lacking in audacity.

“Most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States,” President Obama said during a speech at Mexico’s Anthropology Museum. “I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms. And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will.”

“But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people. That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States. It’s the right thing to do,” Obama added.

Watch the video at RCP.

Are we all supposed to have forgotten about his crooked administration’s Fast and Furious gun running scheme, already? Really?

Well, I haven’t forgotten, and if this president is going to be brazen enough to go to Mexico and blame the US for their gun violence, I’m happy to remind people.

Sharyl Attkisson of CBS reported in December on one of the latest Fast and Furious gun seizures.

Another weapon from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency’s controversial Operation Fast and Furious was recently recovered at a Mexican crime scene, CBS News has learned. Congressional investigators say the crime scene was likely where a recent shootout took place between reported Sinaloa drug cartel members and the Mexican military, in which Sinaloa beauty queen Maria Susana Flores Gamez and four others were killed.

According to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the Justice Department did not notify Congress of the Fast and Furious firearm recovery in November, even though Grassley has requested an accounting of weapons that surface from the case. During Fast and Furious, ATF allowed more than 2,000 weapons, including giant .50-caliber guns, to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels and other criminals. Other so-called “gunwalking” operations by ATF let hundreds more guns hit the street. Most of them have never been recovered.

Mexican beauty queen killed in shootout

The latest known recovery is a Romanian AK-47-type WASR-10 rifle. It was picked up at a crime scene Nov. 23 in Ciudad Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico. That’s the same area and weekend of the shootout involving Flores Gamez’s death. A trace report shows the rifle was purchased by Uriel Patino, the Fast and Furious suspect who allegedly bought more than 700 weapons while under ATF’s watch.

Here’s a common sense reform that I think could go a long way toward keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people.

Middle School Boy Arrested For Wearing NRA Shirt Returns to School in Same Shirt (Video)

After serving his one-day suspension, the West Virginia eighth grader was back in school, yesterday, wearing the very same NRA tee-shirt that got him in trouble.

Kid’s got pluck.

In a move The Daily Caller can only characterize as courageous, 14-year-old Jared Marcum returned to Logan Middle School in Logan County, West Va., wearing exactly the same shirt, which depicts a hunting rifle with the statement “protect your right.”

According to Fox News, other students across the rural county showed their support for Marcum by wearing similar shirts to school.

“There’s a lot of people wearing this same exact shirt, showing great, great support and I really appreciate it,” Marcum said in the morning outside the schoolhouse door, according to local NCB affiliate WBOY-TV.

Jared’s outraged father told 13 News, “I don’t see how anybody would have an issue with a hunting rifle and NRA put on a T-shirt, especially when policy doesn’t forbid it.”

The school district’s dress code prohibits profanity, violence, discriminatory messages, but as noted in this report, gun images are not on the list.

ANGRY Obama Lashes Out at “Willful Liars” Republicans and NRA (Video)

obama-gun-control_live_s640x530
Hell hath no fury like a woman  Obama scorned.

Surrounding himself with human shields family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting and  former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, the petulant president, who chose to forego Margaret Thatcher’s funeral in order to stay in Washington and demagogue fight for gun control, lashed out at Republicans and the NRA as the bill went down in flames, today.

The Washington Times reported:

President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

“The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.”

As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

Senators voted 54-46 late Wednesday to expand background checks of gun purchases, six votes shy of the 60 needed for passage of the amendment.

Obama continued to rail that the amendment had been the bipartisan effort of Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) “a Democrat and a Republican, both gun owners, both fierce defenders of our Second Amendment with ‘A’ grades from the NRA.”

“Instead of supporting this compromise, the gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill…[they] claimed it would create a ‘big brother’ gun registry,” Obama said. He said the “pattern of spreading untruths” about the legislation served a purpose: to enrage a vocal minority of gun owners.

Can you say “projection”, kids? Have we ever heard a POTUS talk like this about fellow Americans?

We haven’t. Obama has been historic in oh so many ways.

You know what I think  happened? Other than the fact that too many of us don’t and will never trust a thing this corrupt, far left, radical president says? Obama’s increasingly hysterical and obnoxious demagoguery just plain turned people off. As Rep Steve Stockman noted on Twitter, earlier, today.

And as Charles C.W. Cooke noted at NRO:

In countless appearances, the president has suggested that the interests of “our children” and “the gun lobby” are diametrically opposed, he has brazenly maligned the intentions of those who have the temerity to disagree with him, and he has made catharsis for the families of the Newtown massacre a national priority. It has been shameless. There is, it appears, no emotional pornography that the administration will refuse to distribute in the pursuit of its agenda.

But the approach betrays a certain desperation. As Kathleen Parkerobserved bluntly in the Washington Post last week, “nothing proposed in the gun-control debates would have prevented the mass killing of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and everybody knows it.”

Everybody does — which explains the mawkishness. The sole purpose of wheeling in innocent children, of pointing incessantly to the grief of victims of gun violence, and of relating tales of family suicide (as Harry Reid recently did on the Senate floor) is to dare your opponents to be hard-hearted enough to oppose your agenda. Instead of engaging his critics on substance, the president has done his level best to circumvent the debate by transmuting a dispute over the wisdom of new laws into an up or down vote on whether or not one is sad about gun violence.

But the emotional pornography continues, as a cringing America turns away.

Joel Pollak, Big Government: Obama: Gun Lobby ‘Willfully Lied’:

President Barack Obama lashed out defiantly and viciously at political opponents who defeated his efforts to expand federal gun regulations today. Standing with families of victims of the Newtown school shooting at the White House, the president claimed that opponents of expanded federal background checks had “no coherent arguments” for their position, and that the “gun lobby” had “willfully lied” in the course of the debate.
Ironically, while accusing others of lying, President Obama resorted to false claims and statistics about current laws, including the repeatedly debunked argument that 40% of gun sales are private, and that guns can be bought over the Internet without background checks. It was partly the dishonesty of those very arguments that had led potential supporters of new bipartisan legislation to doubt the administration’s motives in supporting the bill.

Keith Koffler, WHD: Senate Hands Obama Striking Gun Bill Defeat:

And don’t let the White House fool you that the bill wasn’t allowed an “up or down vote” – anything that moves in the Senate, except for a few budget bills, needs 60 votes. That goes for legislation backed by Republicans and Democrats. It’s standard operating procedure in the Senate, which operates more on a basis of consensus than the House.

Protein Wisdom: Contrite, embarrassed, duped CCRKBA withdraws support of Manchin Toomey bill:

Which won’t be trumpeted near as much as their earlier support for the measure, something the groups’ leadership assured everyone was a real boon for gun wonders — and in fact, was a huge ass-kicking moment for Mr Toomey.

Turns out Schumer was laying in wait and stripped out the pro-gun provisions at the last moment. Whoops!

To paraphrase Eric Stratton, you f*cked up. You trusted them!

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has withdrawn its support for the Manchin-Toomey alternative background check measure because a key amendment for restoration of firearms rights is not being considered.

Our support for this measure was contingent on several key provisions, the cornerstone of which was a rights restoration provision that is not on the schedule for consideration. This is not a reflection against Senators Joe Manchin or Pat Toomey, who are staunch Second Amendment advocates.Maybe. But that just means they are political useful idiots, as was the CCRKBA.

Congrats.

And good luck scrambling at the last moment to take back your support. Once you gave it, that’s all the press needed to hear. They sold that far and wide.

Video: Active Duty Soldier Arrested, Guns Confiscated For Hiking With His AR-15 – In TEXAS

We can thank Barack Obama, Dianne Feinstein, Mayor Bloomberg, Piers Morgan, and most of the virulently anti-gun MSM for creating an environment where an active duty soldier can be harassed and arrested for the mere act of taking a hike with his son carrying his legally owned firearm. Why should a law-abiding conceal carry permit holder out for a walk with his son be seen as a threat to anybody? In Obama’s America, even Texas isn’t safe from the gun grabbers.

Charles C.W. Cooke of National Review Online interviewed  Army Master Sergeant. C. J. Grisham, a serving American soldier and veteran of the the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, whose video, taken by his son has gone viral on YouTube.

“We live out in the country in Texas, near Temple,” he told me. “My son and I were on a ten-mile hike so that he could earn his hiking merit badge – it’s the last badge he needs to become an Eagle Scout.” But half way into the hike, Grisham said, “a police officer pulled up.” Initially, he was “cordial” and he “asked what we were doing.” Grisham told him. “Then he looked at my rifle. I carry a rifle any time I walk around because there are feral hogs and cougars and things like that.”

From here, things took a turn for the worse.

“‘Where you going with that rifle?’ he asked me. I said, ‘does it matter? Am I breaking any laws?’” Then, he says, the officer “grabbed the rifle without telling me – but it was attached to me. My immediate reaction as a combat veteran was to grab it back and then take a step back. I asked him what he was doing. So he pulled his gun on me. Then I thought about my son, so I put my hands off my gun and he told me to move over to the car. Luckily my son had the video camera to document the hike for his merit badge. I told him to turn it on.”

The video starts at the moment:

Cooke found it “particularly chilling” that the officer told Grisham that he (the officer) is “allowed to” carry a weapon, but that Grisham is not — despite Grisham’s having a permit.

“We’re exempt from the law” is not a phrase you want to hear from law enforcement in a constitutional republic.

Grisham told Cooke this sort of thing happens to soldiers a lot.

I have a pretrial hearing on May 29. The police are dragging their feet, not releasing the video. They’re waiting as long as they can — playing hard to get. . . . The reason I’m aggressive on this is that, in the military, if this happens, they initiate a flag that halts your career. You can’t take leave, you can’t be promoted, can’t receive awards or decorations. I am supposed to move to new base in July. I can’t do that. Via Elizabeth Sheld at The Conversation, this could be for no other reason than to “shame” Senators into voting for the bill.:

The Senate could vote as early as tomorrow on the Toomey-Manchin gun control bill. Reports indicate the Democrats do not have the 60 votes they need to pass the bill.

Former Rep. Gabby Giffords was on the Hill today along with her husband Mark Kelly.

“She’s our whip,” said Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who along with Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) crafted the deal to extend background checks on commercial gun sales and close the so-called “gun show loophole.”

Ace reports that Republicans are balking at voting for the Amendment that is to be added to the shell bill.

Here’s what I believe the procedural backstory to be: The bill that passed is a shell bill of some kind, which wouldn’t pass itself, but was to serve as the vehicle for the finished bill. The finished bill would be supplemented by the Toomey-Manchin “compromise” — without this supposedly “centrist” compromise, the shell bill would not pass.

And now Republicans are balking about adding that amendment to the shell bill. If that amendment is filibustered, it can’t be added to the shell bill, and the whole bill will fail (as it won’t have enough Republicans in its favor).

Today, the same day that Reid said “we have the wind at out backs”, the Politico reported that the gun control bill  “has little if any, chance of passing this Congress – it’s struggling in the Senate and facing outright rejection in the House.”

John Nolte crowed a little at Big Journalism:

In the immediate aftermath of the tragic Newtown murders, Obama and His Media joined forces to exploit the deaths of innocent children for all it was worth — with a series of laws that would have done absolutely nothing to stop the very crime they were exploiting. This naked political move to leverage the murder of innocents as an excuse to attack the National Rifle Association and gun owners, who live predominantly in red states, is about as cynical and craven as it gets.

According to Politico, though, all this soul selling is likely to come to nothing. Politico reports on Tuesday that the gun control bill Obama, liberal Democrats, Piers MorganChuck Todd, and all of CNN want so desperately to pass “has little if any, chance of passing this Congress – it’s struggling in the Senate and facing outright rejection in the House.”

Obama and His Media kept moving the goal posts for victory until they reached a point where assault weapons and the size of magazine clips were completely off the table. All that remains today is a small tightening of background checks. That doesn’t mean, though, that victory wouldn’t still be declared and Obama celebrated as Caesar back from the wars. But even that piece of practically-nothing looks unlikely to pass — in part, because of three Senate Democrats who, as of now, are unwilling to support it.

The latest, via Ace: Heller Abandons Toomey-Manchin; Will Vote “No”.

Looking, real good, there, Dingy.

Taking nothing for granted, Senator Ted Cruz, today, released the second in a series of “Freedom Minute” segments discussing the fight to defend the Second Amendment.

Hi, I’m Ted Cruz and this is a Freedom Minute.

When it comes to violent gun crime, the government should use every tool to punish and deter violent criminals.

Unfortunately, the Obama Administration has failed to make this a priority. In 2010, more than 15,000 fugitives and felons tried to illegally purchase a firearm. The Obama Justice Department prosecuted only 44. Fourty-four out of over 15,000. That’s completely unacceptable.

Instead of going after criminals, politicians in Washington are working to try to take away the constitutional rights for law-abiding Americans.

Our rights as citizens matter most in times of crisis.

That’s why I believe under no circumstance should Congress be allowed to undermine our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.  The Bill of Rights is too important.

BARACK, MICHELLE, BIDEN ALL TO SKIP THATCHER FUNERAL TO PUSH GUN CONTROL:

A U.S. Embassy spokesman explained that Obama is unable to attend the funeral of our Britain’s Iron Lady and staunch U.S. ally during the Cold War because “this is a hugely significant week in terms of U.S. politics.”

The spokesman elaborated, saying that because the First Lady and Vice President Biden “are the president’s point people on gun control,” their attendance at Thatcher’s funeral is not possible either.

“This is a week when there is a lot of movement on Capitol Hill on gun issues,” the spokesman said.

Because this is such an important issue to the American people…..

Biden opened his mouth again: Biden: Al-Qaeda Telling Jihadists To Exploit “Guns Show Loophole,” Lies About It Being Fresh Intelligence…

We just caught Biden in a lie, he’s saying this information was given to Obama last Thursday in the daily intelligence briefing, but it’s clear he’s talking about what al-Qaeda leader Adam Gadahn said in 2011 but was dredged up last Wednesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Either way it’s bunk because Gadahn made several claims about U.S. gun laws that are patently false.

There’s no “gun show loophole.” That’s a Regime lie.

Video: Harry Reid Thanks the 16 RINOs (Especially John McCain!) Who Voted for Cloture on Gun Control Bill

“Sickmaking” or “gag-inducing” as commenters on Twitter have noted, Dingy’s speech is especially repulsive at the part where he exploits “the people from Connecticut who lived through this tragedy” as if the proposals in this bill would have done anything to have prevented it.

They must be so proud.

Hey you 16 Republicans - “the word is out” - If a lying, conniving, socialist, dirtbag like Dingy Harry is praising you – you done something wrong.

UPDATE:

Bob Owens asks: is a trap being set?

…The list of ways to turn this empty shell of a bill into the “Gun Freedom Act of 2013″ is only limited by the minds of the Senate’s Bill authors. Let’s hope they have the good sense to use this bill to force the Democrats to show their constituents what they really think about liberty. If they can use the amendment process in such a way as to expand freedom instead of contract it, that is even better.

But I really think it is as Roll Call surmised: “With polls showing that as many as 90 percent of Americans want to see enhanced background checks for firearms, many GOP senators were wary of filibustering the motion to proceed to the bill even if they eventually vote against it.”

In DC, you follow the money or you follow the polls (even bogus ones.) In this case, probably both apply.

Mark Levin: “There Are No Up-or-Down Votes on the Constitution!” (Video)

Mark Levin spent a good portion of his show, Tuesday combatting the notion that  the Second Amendment is not under attack as Senators prepare to vote on the Democrat’s (as yet unseen) gun control package on Thursday.

He argued that the federal government does not have the power to propose any law that abridges or constricts the Second Amendment of the United States.

“The 2nd Amendment like the rest of the bill of rights is part of the constitution”, he explained. “It exists as protection against usurpation by against the very congress that is now debating its very existence! The 2nd Amendment belongs to you and me! ….Like the rest of the Constitution. It’s not up for grabs! Is the Senate holding a Constitutional Convention?!”

He went on to say, “it’s important to realize that this Thursday, the Senate intends to vote on changing the 2nd Amendment without any pretense of going through the constitutional Amendment processes. The Senate is meeting as if its a Constitutional Convention and it can do whatever it damn well wants to do!”

An up or down vote on 2nd Amendment is unconstitutional,” Levin fumed. “There are no up or down votes on the Constitution!”

“On top of that, we have no idea what specific law is even being proposed”, he continued. “It’s Tuesday evening. We have no idea what they’re going to debate on Thursday. And yet, you have Democrats of course, and Republicans as well, insisting that we pass this law or that law without the benefit of a single hearing. Without the benefit of public notice of any kind. This is not ‘little r republicanism!’ He thundered,  “this is Democratic tyranny!”

Ted Cruz was a guest on the show, yesterday. He said “we should stand together and defend the Bill of Rights.”

UPDATE:

Market Ticker: Go To Hell Harry Reid and Dianne Feinswine:

This bill goes far further and effectively bans lawful gun retailing!

I wondered why they were talking about “Straw Purchasers” in their news releases when straw purchasing is already illegal and exposes the person who does so to severe criminal penalties.

The reason is that now they intend to steal all property involved in the straw purchase even for an unaware participant — such as a gun store where a straw purchase takes place!

‘(a)(1) Any person convicted of a violation of section 932 or 933 shall forfeit to the United States, irrespective of any provision of State law–
‘(A) any property constituting, or derived from, any proceeds the person obtained, directly or indirectly, as the result of such violation; and
‘(B) any of the person’s property used, or intended to be used, in any manner or part, to commit, or to facilitate the commission of, such violation.

Note the language. Not only will this be construed to steal the house, vehicle and other property of both the straw purchaser and the ultimate recipient as-written it can and probably will also be construed to attack a retailer who has an employee that is involved in such a transaction.

If you didn’t understand Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell’s filibuster intent (along with others) you should now understand it quite-clearly.  Not only is there an attempt to define the victims of a crime as federal felons in this piece of blatantly unconstitutional trash but in addition there is a thinly-veiled attack upon lawful firearms retailers in the form of forfeiture provisions that can be (and presumably will be) easily abused to seize property upon the flimsiest of pretext.

Cruz: UN Small Arms Treaty Represents Threats to 2nd Amendment Rights and US Sovereignty (Audio)

“The UN Small Arms Treaty must be defeated”, TX Senator Ted Cruz declared in a radio interview, today with Ben Ferguson of WBAP. He said the treaty combines two things that are very dangerous -  a direct threat to our right to keep and bear arms, and an ongoing threat to our sovereignty which is part of a pattern that he said the Obama administration has accelerated.

When asked if there was any chance the Democrats will be able to pass a sweeping gun control law,  Cruz replied, “if the Democrats had their way, they would readily pass laws that would restrict our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”

Reason TV Rebuttal: Jim Carrey’s Cold Dead Hand (Video)

Actor Jim Carrey’s obnoxious  anti-gun parody video “Cold Dead Hands” which made fun of rural gun owners and the late Charlton Heston, offended gun owners all across the nation. But never fear – it has been by rebutted by Reason TV with their own clever and much funnier parody. The video takes some jabs at Carrey for his own hypocrisy on guns, and his opposition to vaccines, among other thing.

Mild profanity alert as Reason TV’s Remy accuses Carrey of  “talking out your ass” complete with  visuals from one of his movies.

Video: Rand Paul Draws Huge College Crowd At UK Campus

WHAS 11 in Lexington Ky reported:

If Republicans were worried about tapping into a younger voter base, Kentucky’s Rand Paul pulled a huge crowd on the campus of the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, March 27.

Take a look at the crowds lined up to see Senator Rand Paul waiting in the cold and students wrapped around the building.

The students applauded Paul for sticking to his guns on gun rights. He and two other Tea Party senators plan to filibuster a democratic gun control measure in April.

The students applauded Paul for sticking to his guns on gun rights? Really – because the MSM keeps telling me that the Democrats’ gun control agenda has wide public appeal.

The Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition, which held poorly attended press conferences and rallies all across the nation, today, can only wish their message had as much widespread appeal as Paul’s.

Paul also spoke about his 13-hour filibuster to block the nomination of John Brennan to be head of the CIA over the Regime’s  drone policy.

“This was about the limitation of power,” Paul said. “To me the question is, do you believe you have the power to drone someone in the U.S.?

“This to me is an amazingly important battle and something we should stand up for, and we’re united on the left and the right.”

From drones, Paul moved through a litany of his beliefs and plans, all part of a breezy, informal 20-minute talk sponsored by BB&T and the Gatton School of Business and Economics.

■ On entitlement reform: Maybe young people should be allowed to opt out of Social Security.

■ On immigration: The U.S. needs a system that provides workers with visas, but no welfare, and no right to vote.

■ On his economic plans: America needs a 17 percent flat tax for both business and income that would create “an economic boom like you’ve never seen.”

■ On gun control: “The only thing that could have prevented that shooting (the Newtown tragedy) was if the principal had a gun in their desk,” he said. He plans to block new gun-control efforts when he returns to Washington.

Liveblogging MAIG National Day to Demand Action Events

Mayor Bloomberg’s notorious gun control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns has organized a “National Day To Demand Action” day, with press conferences and rallies scheduled all across the nation.

As I wrote at the Conversation, this morning, Bloomberg may want to consider having background checks on these pro gun-control Mayors before they are accepted into the group, because the reckless and criminal behavior of some of the members is not helping their cause, from a PR standpoint.

The Washington Free Beacon recently reported that some current and former members of the group have been charged with crimes as serious as felony corruption, assault of a police officer, and child sex crimes.

Dubbed the GunControlapalooza, by some, their gun control Day of Action  was given a send off, yesterday by none other than VP Joey “Choo Choo” Biden, who held a conference call with gun control supporters across the nation, telling them, the assault weapons’ ban just the beginning.

The president kicked things off with a WH photo op where  he shamelessly scolded fellow Americans who are against his gun control agenda: ‘Shame on us if we’ve forgotten’ Newtown kids; Citizens.

You can find the list of the events state by state, here.

I’ve been trying to find information about the events that have already taken place. There was supposed to be something at the Durham, NC City Hall  at 10:30 a.m. but so far, no news on that. No word yet on the Indianapolis rally that happened at 11:00. There is a written statement from MAIG posted at Reuters with the disclaimer, * Reuters is not responsible for the content in this press release: Hoosiers Call On Congress To End Gun Violence As Part Of National Day To Demand Action.

Nothing yet on the Palm beach County event…. I’m sure that it’s taking reporters time to download all their pictures of the seas of humanity at these anti Second Amendment rallies.

Here’s what I’ve got, so far.

The Hartford CT event was held at 9:00 am:

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra are throwing support behind a national effort to end gun violence.

They all spoke on the steps of Hartford City Hall on Thursday as part of The National Day to Demand Action, organized by the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition.

How big was the crowd AP?

Here’s the pic the posted of Hartford press conference.

I’m sure pictures and videos will start appearing before long. I will update as soon as they do.

UPDATE:

Philly Mayor Michael Nutter held a press conference at the Widener Library branch in North Philadelphia at 12:00 on Thursday as a part of a National Day to Demand Action on gun legislation.

Nutter – along with fellow members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Deputy Commissioner Kevin Bethel, and advocates with CeaseFirePA and Mothers in Charge – called on Congress to require background checks for all gun sales.

There was no mention in the article on the number of people who filled the library to hear the press conference.

Binghamton mayor urges action on illegal guns:

Binghamton mayor Mayor Matthew Ryan held a press conference at 11:00 am.

Binghamton-Mayor
UPDATE:

NEW YORK, March 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Mainers gathered today in Augusta and Portland as part of the National Day to Demand Action to end gun violence as President Obama met with gun violence survivors, law enforcement officials and mothers at the White House to urge Congress to reform U.S. gun laws.  Mayors Against Illegal Guns also released the first television ad featuring family members of those killed at Sandy Hook calling on political leaders to support sensible reforms like comprehensive and enforceable background checks.  The ad can be viewed here: www.DemandAction.org/Newtown-Families

In Augusta, Mayor William Stokes and Hallowell Mayor Charlotte Warren held a press conference and petition drive while in Portland, Mayor Michael Brennan and former Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert held a press conference.

“We vigorously enforce gun crimes in Maine,” said Augusta Mayor William Stokes.  “But while we have a great working relationship with federal and local partners, it is not enough to prevent out of state buyers coming into Maine to buy guns they cannot get elsewhere. We need stronger federal laws that require background checks for all gun sales and make gun trafficking a federal crime.”

“Born and raised on a farm in rural Maine, I come from a family of hunters and gun owners, and I am proud of our family traditions,” said Hallowell Mayor Charlotte Warren.  “I am also keenly aware of the damage these weapons can do in the wrong hands. My family honors a tradition of safe and responsible gun use. It is because of my upbringing that I support background checks for all gun sales.  Instituting background checks protects all of our gun rights. We are doing everything we can at the local level to keep families safe and healthy. We need help from Augusta and Washington to close loopholes and keep guns out of the wrong hands.”

WRAL: NC cities mark national ‘action day’ on gun violence:

steele-600x450

There was reportedly a crowd for this one, but no pix of the crowd.

Events were planned in Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh and Durham, where family members of victims of gun violence spoke about Thursday morning about the need for universal background checks – not only for commercial but for private sales.

Joined by Durham Mayor Bill Bell, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe, Effie Steele told the crowd about how her 21-year-old pregnant daughter had been shot in the chest three times in December 2007 by a family friend whom she believes had mental health issues.

“I’m involved in a group I never thought I would ever or never wanted to be a part of,” Steele said. “My daughter, Ebony Robinson, and my only grandson, Elijah, were murdered five years ago by someone who should not have been allowed to have a gun, much less his own personal arsenal.”

UPDATE:

In Phoenix Gun-control supporters gather in Phoenix for National Day to Demand Action:

phoenix

PHOENIX — It’s National Day to Demand Action, as people call for universal background checks on all gun buyers and an assault weapons ban.

A group gathered Thursday for a downtown rally at Cesar Chavez Plaza.

Mari Bailey’s son Michael was 21 when he was shot and killed almost 10 years ago. That was when she began her fight to stop gun violence. She said that this 100th day since the Connecticut school shootings prompts the time for tougher gun laws.

“If it saves one life, and one more mom from going what I went through, let’s do this.”

The Center for American Progress said Arizona is the ninth-deadliest state for gun violence with a rate 40 percent higher than the national average.

Tucson: Tucson leaders gather to “Demand Action” on gun violence:

Tucson

While members of Congress are home during the Easter/Passover recess, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, in conjunction with Organizing for Action, Americans for Responsible Solutions and other groups, will organize events and petition drives and generate an unprecedented number of calls into Senate district offices to call for their representatives to support commonsense gun laws like comprehensive and enforceable background checks.

The article was press release stuff with no actual reporting about the rally, but the comments are entertaining.

HELLO! Criminals have illegal guns…criminals don’t do back ground checks.

_

No shortage of idiots of the left in Tucson, instead of dealing with real problems like illegals, budgets, drug cartels, street gangs let’s screw with honest second amendment supporters and attack their rights, ruin their lives and act like the total idiots of the left they are along with a few Rino’s. Nothing proposed will do a thing to prevent any of these shootings past or present except armed citizens willing to act against the crazies. The police have no duty to respond, and honestly, has there ever been a mass shooting at a gun show or gun store or police convention? NO BECAUSE THEY’RE ARMED AND CAN PROTECT THEMSELVES! I wonder why they’re not mentioning names here? Is it because we will remember election time and kick their a.s.s.es out of office! Keep your hands off our guns you loony leftists! Oh and let’s not forget Loughner was a Democrat who read Karl Marx and Adolph Hitler!

Something needs to be done about the rash of gun violence. I say INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CCW AND ALLOW MORE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AS WELL AS OTHERS! In other words – “Carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.A great show of farce.

The sense I get from today is that there is simply not a widespread desire in this country to push Bloomberg et al’s gun control laws. These rallies and media events were very poorly attended from the looks of it. Kinda surprising since OFA was involved. Couldn’t Obama’s permanent campaign arm afford any decent astroturf?

Obama’s remarks this morning in the White House,  flanked by mothers of crime victims, were repulsive considering his Justice Dept’s abysmal track record  prosecuting gun crimes.

The gun grabbers want you to think otherwise, but the wind is definitely not at their backs.
