An Inconvenient Court Ruling

How embarrassing for Al Gore!

A British court has determined that Al Gore’s docudrama, “An Inconvenient Truth” contains at least eleven material falsehoods, and schools will have to issue a warning before they show pupils the movie. This means that teachers will have to inform pupils that there are other opinions on global warming and they should not necessarily accept the views of the film.

Newsbusters wonders if the Tuesday morning news shows are going to be covering this little tidbit of news. Nobody’s betting on it.

The court was deciding a case brought on by a British truck driver who filed the lawsuit to prevent Gore’s propaganda film from being shown in England’s public schools. The court decided:

In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument. 2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination. 3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.

The list of inaccuracies can be found at Newsbusters.

ManBearPig makes an appearance at Ed Gruberman’s.

Correction 10/11:

Newsbusters is now reporting that the ruling by the judge, Michael Burton on Wednesday listed nine (not eleven) key scientific errors.

Still problematic for a motion picture marketed as a documentary.

According to the British Telegraph, Burton claimed these “errors had arisen ‘in the context of alarmism and exaggeration’ in order to support Mr Gore’s thesis on global warming.”

  1. Niiiice. Very very nice.

Maybe the libs are onto something when they say we should be more like the Euros…

Apparently it’s illegal to politically indoctrinate children over there. Amazing. Over here it’s de rigeur.

  2. 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument.

Who would have thought someone else might think Gore produced a one-sided political advertisement. Amazing. Too bad the same standard does not apply on this side of the pond.

  5. The problem is that the producers shortened the original name of the movie.

  6. You failed to mention that the judge quite clearly expressed that the movie won’t be banned from schools, as Dimmock demanded, because the detected errors were minor in nature and that the movie contains four main messages that are very well and truthfully documented: That climate change is made by man, that temperatures will rise further, that the climate change will have bad consequences and that it is possible for governments and individuals to do something about it.

  7. That climate change is made by man

Please to explain why the other planets are getting warmer at the exact same rate, without our assistance? Or is mankind just that powerful?

that the climate change will have bad consequences

That really kind of depends on your perspective, doesn’t it? I think I might prefer having an ocean view from my house on top of the hill.

    that temperatures will rise further

This is not what one calls a “fact.” Tis is what one calls a “theory.” Plus, I guess we can prove our theories by just limiting the period of time we use to support our position, right? So it was warm this weekend and it’s cooler now, so I think temperatures are going down. How is my conclusion any less valid than yours, considering the amount of junk science and flat-out lies used to support your theory?

that it is possible for governments and individuals to do something about it.

And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? We must be able to do something because, well, because you just can’t be made to feel that you are anything less than the all-powerful human who can control the universe, can you? Your mommy told you that you were special, so you must be able to alter the laws of thermodynamics and nature, right? ‘Cause your mommy wouldn’t lie to you, would she?

  8. Something else From the ruling I didn’t originally report:

According to the British Telegraph, Burton claimed these “errors had arisen ‘in the context of alarmism and exaggeration’ in order to support Mr Gore’s thesis on global warming.”

  9. You failed to make that clear, however, I failed to care where that opinion comes from, the judge or you, when I wrote my response,. But either way, there seems to be a failure to communicate all around.

So, if you don’t agree with the judge, then assume I am talking to the judge. If , however, you do agree with the judge’s ruling, then I am speaking to both you and the judge.

Either way, the opinion that the 4 main points of this complete fraud of a documentary are truthful is merely that: opinion. Uninformed, deluded and completely idiotic opinion, but opinion, nonetheless, regardless of who holds them.
