Obama Defends Pastor

A montage of Reverend Wright’s best hits:

Via Gateway Pundit; Obama’s interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune Review:

Question: I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but it’s all over the wire today (from an ABC News story), a statement that your pastor (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s South Side) made in a sermon in 2003 that instead of singing “God Bless America,” black people should sing a song essentially saying “God Damn America.”

Obama: I haven’t seen the line. This is a pastor who is on the brink of retirement who in the past has made some controversial statements. I profoundly disagree with some of these statements.

Question: What about this particular statement?

Obama: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it’s important to judge me on what I’ve said in the past and what I believe.

Okay, that was totally inadequate. But even if he had offered stronger condemnation, the question still remains…what the hell was he thinking bringing his family to this ridiculous church for 20 years???

You know what? I think it’s over for Obama.

This story is going to mark the turning point of Obama’s fortunes this election year. I’m afraid there is really no escaping the truth. This man is no “uniter”. This man is no “post-racial” “healer”. His campaign is a complete sham.

He may still be able to squeak ahead of Hillary in the primaries, simply because of her low approval ratings, but this is going to be an albatross around his neck for the general.

Obama has responded in a post at Huffpo; excerpts and analysis at Hot Air:

Is he suggesting that in 20 years’ time he never heard Wright say anything along these lines? Or is he merely suggesting that he was never personally in attendance when Wright said it, as if that would matter remotely to his decision to stay with the church once he heard about it secondhand?

Exactly. There really is nothing Obama can say that will completely diffuse this situation, at this point.

  1. I posted a lengthy comment that didn’t show up. I expanded it and posted it at my blog.

Anyway, this Obama thing is really, really getting under my skin now. It’s not like 4 yrs ago when I was against Kerry for standard issue political reasons. Obama offends me in a deep and visceral way. I love my country, and something inside tells me Obama doesn’t.

  2. In all my life I have never sat and watched a politician studder, stumble, and trip over his own history as badly as he did in the Fox interview.

I am sorry Barry. He doesn’t get under my skin any longer. Listening to him tonight was like the breath of fresh air one gets when the jury comes back with a hard 40 for a murderer you apprehended.

  3. I just saw the H&C interview. Obama’s is saying, ‘well, he never said any of that stuff while I was there’.

    I call BS.

Obama was downright…. Clintonian. That was a slick lawyer talking, trying to muddy up the trail.

  4. And this little tidbit came out today:

According to the pastor, Mr. Obama then told him, “You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.”

Gee, how die Obama know he could be “rough”. Did somebody squeal?

  5. Beckel was as pathetic as I’ve ever seen him, too, asking if babies who have gone to church there have been tainted by Wright’s hateful word’s, too. What the hell was his point? Was he comparing Obama to an innocent baby? That was just sad.

  6. I’ve always figured that Beckel worked for Hannity. No one else makes him look better. Well, except for the New Black Panther attorney.

  7. Nice posting.

I think if the right blogosphere keeps on this story, it could bring Obama’s campaign down.

He’s clearly lying about his knowledge of Wright’s hatred. It’s time for a reckoning on all the anti-Americanism Obama’s camp’s spewing.
