I guess we’re all supposed to be scandalized by this:
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the Palins’ statement said.
“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,” the Palins said.
The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple’s privacy.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the nutroots won’t be doing so.
The McCain camp knew about this before the Palin VP announcement was made, so it’s no surprise to them.
This “scandal”, (if you can call it that) reminds me very much of the coverage that the Bush daughters got during the 2000 Presidential election. Even though it wasn’t any of our business, we were treated to stories about their college hijinks, underage drinking and whatnot.
The fact of the matter is, teenagers sometimes get into trouble. That’s life. The Palins respect life, and guess what?
I respect the Palins.

BlackIsWhite Imperial Agent Provocateur made a brilliant point in the comments:
Well, I’m certain the Anointed One Himself(TM) will remind us all that he doesn’t want his daughters punished with a baby if they make a mistake. Once again, a distinction is clearly drawn, and once again, the Dhims are too dim to understand that the difference really does make us better than them.
See Ace Of Spades HQ for a comparison of the Obamas and the Palins on this issue.
Michelle Malkin says: Bristol Palin Chooses Life, Now Leave Her Alone.
Malkin has coined a new term: PDS. I doubt the sufferers will take her advice.
The Washington Post: Assessing The Political Impact Of Bristol Palin’s Pregnancy:
* Democrats must be VERY careful not to take a false step here. Some Republicans have already insisted that the Obama campaign is behind the rumor-mongering about Sarah, Bristol and Trig — although in our experience the campaign has not pushed the story AT ALL, in fact they have been encouraging reporters to focus on the issues of difference between the two candidates rather than personal stories. Any sense that Democrats are pushing this idea will almost certainly turn both Sarah and Bristol Palin into sympathetic figures — and that spells trouble for her detractors.
Dr. James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family issued this compassionate statement.
Starting with Barack Obama’s reaction when he was asked to comment on the news that Sarah palin’s 17 year-old daughter was pregnant, he said it was irrelevant to the political campaign and went on to admonish “I think peoples families are off limits and people’s children are especially off limits, ” as reported by CBS News.
He continued on to say, “My mother had me when she was 18 years old,” Obama said, adding that families should deal with these issues privately. “That shouldn’t be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off limits.”
He continued on to assert that no one in his campaign is involved nor will be and he concluded by saying, “And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they’d be fired.”
