Oops: Shit Sandwich Fails

Your welcome, your welcome….WTF?????

The bailout has failed:

The final tally was 207-226, with Democrats supporting it 141-94, while Republicans opposed it 66-132.

How did the markets react?  Initially, with panic.  Dow dropped from around a -290 to more like a -660, but then recovered within minutes to a -400.  Within a few minutes after that, it rose a little further to about -360, a 300-point gain, but it continued to go up and down, and probably will all day long.

Michelle Malkin has the rollcall vote.

Jim Geraghty:

What the hell was yesterday’s smiling press conference all about? Why were Hoyer, Frank, Pelosi and the rest of the House Democratic Leadership smiling yesterday? Did they have any sense of their own caucus?

Sure, two-thirds of House Republicans voted against it. But they were always against it, complaining about it from the beginning. You heard Boehner, he described the bill as a crap sandwich; nobody should have expected a lot of Republican votes for this. But the House GOP Leadership did get on board, and encouraged their rank-and-file to do the same.

Pelosi said she needed political cover. A third of House Republicans ought to be enough cover.

How the hell does Pelosi’s bill not carry 40 percent of her caucus?

Can the woman be any more incompetent?

Via Hot Air: Here’s her speech that is being seen as the deal-breaker:

Pelosi blamed the collapse on George Bush and a lack of regulation, and called Republicans hypocrites for cheering free-market principles.

The White House Warned Congress About Fannie Mae Freddie Mac 17 Times In 2008, Alone.

Video: Democrats Repeatedly Warned Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac needed reform.

The Democrats repeatedly fought all attempts by Republicans to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Pelosi is smoking rope.

Are Reid, Pelosi, and Frank all trying to get their little partisan digs in now, because they know that as soon Bush signs the bill, the Republicans, (who are too responsible to do it now) are going to cut loose, and set the record straight?

That would explain McCain’s failure to make some obvious points during the economic part of the debate on Friday. He didn’t want to taint the process with “partisan politics”.

Jim Geraghty says Pelosi’s excuses are garbage:

Pelosi, moments ago: “The Democrats more than lived up to their side of the bargain.”

Horsepuckey. Pelosi has 235 members. She needed 218. She could spare 17 members and still pass the bill.

The GOP spotted her 65 members, for a bill that made most Republicans’ skin crawl in both broad outline and in terms of detail.

That meant Pelosi could afford to lose 82 Democrats.

She lost 95.

Statement from the McCain campaign:

“From the minute John McCain suspended his campaign and arrived in Washington to address this crisis, he was attacked by the Democratic leadership: Senators Obama and Reid, Speaker Pelosi and others. Their partisan attacks were an effort to gain political advantage during a national economic crisis. By doing so, they put at risk the homes, livelihoods and savings of millions of American families.

“Barack Obama failed to lead, phoned it in, attacked John McCain, and refused to even say if he supported the final bill.

“Just before the vote, when the outcome was still in doubt, Speaker Pelosi gave a strongly worded partisan speech and poisoned the outcome.

“This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country.”

—McCain-Palin senior policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin

Ace is absolutely convinced that Republicans are holding back on putting the blame on the Dems (where it belongs) until after a bill passes:

Pelosi’s to blame for indulging in partisanship before the vote, but oh, we should have some partisanship on our side too before the vote. Our partisanship is cool.

(That was sarcasm for those of you who don’t know Ace).

Well, our partisan attacks will actually be accurate, and may actually move votes, but making them now precludes any chance of a rescue.

The Democrats are already cutting their throats by signing this — you think their constituents are pro giving money to Wall Street?

We can finish cutting necks later.

Obama Admits He was Once A Kenyan Citizen

I’m late to the game on this one. The Obama birth certificate controversy has reared its ugly head again: Obama had this on his Fight The Smears Website last week:

When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

I wouldn’t even know about it if I hadn’t checked Newsbusters this morning. Texas Darlin, (who was absolutely right on this issue, all along) had a post up on the 25th:

Now nice Anti-Pumas, please admit that the Senator has been selling snake oil and you have been buying it. I said he was probably born with Dual Citizenship under the 1948 Act at the outset, and I wasn’t wrong. Likewise, I wasn’t wrong about the Kenyan Constitution and his Kenyan Citizenship. Don’t take any bets that I’m wrong about Indonesia. Or the US Constitution and what it means.

Please note that I, once again, state that I, personally, believe Obama was born in Hawaii and that it doesn’t affect my opinion on his Eligibility for the Office of POTUS at all. In my understanding Article II Requires that one be a “Natural Born Citizen”, and in terms of the Law as understood by the Framers, anyone with Dual Citizenship could not be “Natural Born”. It does not matter that they no longer hold that Citizenship, they fall into the same bracket as a “Naturalized Citizen” because they have/had Divided Allegiance. That is my view and I haven’t moved an inch on it.

However, the Kenyan Citizenship Issue may not be the main point here, WAS HE, OR WAS HE NOT, an INDONESIAN CITIZEN? The Senator isn’t saying, isn’t mentioning it, is trying to avoid producing any Paperwork at all. Why? If he is/was an Indonesian Citizen, too, the Senator’s entire narrative is a fiction and he should be ashamed of himself.

Read on, she’s got more.

Ace’s post from yesterday, (that he put up to goad Obama’s Goon Squad) suggests that Obama was once a citizen of Indonesia, as well:

20 months ago: This registration document, made available on Jan. 24, 2007, by the Fransiskus Assisi school in Jakarta, Indonesia, shows the registration of Barack Obama under the name Barry Soetoro into the Catholic school made by his step-father, Lolo Soetoro. The document lists Barry Soetoro as a Indonesian citizen, born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, and shows his Muslim step-father listed the boy’s religion as Islam.(AP Photo/ Tatan Syuflana)

P.J. Gladnick of Newsbusters writes:

Until reading of this Kenyan citizenship admission, I thought the lawsuit claimng that Obama was born in Kenya filed by Clinton supporter, Phil Berg, in Philadelphia was of minor import. However, by responding to it in the way it did, the Fight the Smears website has just opened up a big can of worms for Obama in its admission that he was a citizen of Kenya until 1982.

Meanwhile, instead of simply producing the original birth certificate in court and put the matter to rest, the Obama campaign seeks to evade that action by attempting to dismiss the lawsuit entirely.

Go to Newsbusters to read the latest report on this lawsuit from the Phoenixville News.

You would think the MSM would be more interested in all of this.

Dems Very Pleased With Themselves

You’re welcome, your welcome…..just doing the people’s business!

Um, guys? You and your ilk are the ones that helped cause the crisis, and now you’re patting yourselves on the back because of the shit-sandwich you’re foisting onto the American people to clean up your mess?

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air:

After this, we need to demand humility from Congress on economic policy.  Government-imposed “fairness” led to this catastrophe, and we’ll pay the price for the Community Reinvestment Act and the manipulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for a generation.  Had we allowed the market to work normally, this never would have happened.

Humility from the Democrats? Yeah…that’s going to happen.

Credit where it is due:

John Boehner: “And, I think I’ve been clear to many of you that without John McCain supporting me at the White House when I said, “Woah, woah, time out,” they would have run over me like a freight train and I’m grateful for his support.”

Thank you John McCain. No wonder they were shrieking like banshees, when you came to town and threw cold water on all of their nefarious plans;

“Wah….wah….there goes our ACORN, and LA RAZA boondoggle….I’M MELTING I’M MELTING”!!11!!
