Oops: Shit Sandwich Fails

Your welcome, your welcome….WTF?????

The bailout has failed:

The final tally was 207-226, with Democrats supporting it 141-94, while Republicans opposed it 66-132.

How did the markets react?  Initially, with panic.  Dow dropped from around a -290 to more like a -660, but then recovered within minutes to a -400.  Within a few minutes after that, it rose a little further to about -360, a 300-point gain, but it continued to go up and down, and probably will all day long.

Michelle Malkin has the rollcall vote.

Jim Geraghty:

What the hell was yesterday’s smiling press conference all about? Why were Hoyer, Frank, Pelosi and the rest of the House Democratic Leadership smiling yesterday? Did they have any sense of their own caucus?

Sure, two-thirds of House Republicans voted against it. But they were always against it, complaining about it from the beginning. You heard Boehner, he described the bill as a crap sandwich; nobody should have expected a lot of Republican votes for this. But the House GOP Leadership did get on board, and encouraged their rank-and-file to do the same.

Pelosi said she needed political cover. A third of House Republicans ought to be enough cover.

How the hell does Pelosi’s bill not carry 40 percent of her caucus?

Can the woman be any more incompetent?

No.

Via Hot Air: Here’s her speech that is being seen as the deal-breaker:

Pelosi blamed the collapse on George Bush and a lack of regulation, and called Republicans hypocrites for cheering free-market principles.

The White House Warned Congress About Fannie Mae Freddie Mac 17 Times In 2008, Alone.

Video: Democrats Repeatedly Warned Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac needed reform.

The Democrats repeatedly fought all attempts by Republicans to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Pelosi is smoking rope.

Hmmmmmm:

Are Reid, Pelosi, and Frank all trying to get their little partisan digs in now, because they know that as soon Bush signs the bill, the Republicans, (who are too responsible to do it now) are going to cut loose, and set the record straight?

That would explain McCain’s failure to make some obvious points during the economic part of the debate on Friday. He didn’t want to taint the process with “partisan politics”.

UPDATE:

Jim Geraghty says Pelosi’s excuses are garbage:

Pelosi, moments ago: “The Democrats more than lived up to their side of the bargain.”

Horsepuckey. Pelosi has 235 members. She needed 218. She could spare 17 members and still pass the bill.

The GOP spotted her 65 members, for a bill that made most Republicans’ skin crawl in both broad outline and in terms of detail.

That meant Pelosi could afford to lose 82 Democrats.

She lost 95.

EPIC FAIL!

UPDATE II:

Statement from the McCain campaign:

“From the minute John McCain suspended his campaign and arrived in Washington to address this crisis, he was attacked by the Democratic leadership: Senators Obama and Reid, Speaker Pelosi and others. Their partisan attacks were an effort to gain political advantage during a national economic crisis. By doing so, they put at risk the homes, livelihoods and savings of millions of American families.

“Barack Obama failed to lead, phoned it in, attacked John McCain, and refused to even say if he supported the final bill.

“Just before the vote, when the outcome was still in doubt, Speaker Pelosi gave a strongly worded partisan speech and poisoned the outcome.

“This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country.”

—McCain-Palin senior policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin

UPDATE III:

Ace is absolutely convinced that Republicans are holding back on putting the blame on the Dems (where it belongs) until after a bill passes:

Pelosi’s to blame for indulging in partisanship before the vote, but oh, we should have some partisanship on our side too before the vote. Our partisanship is cool.

(That was sarcasm for those of you who don’t know Ace).

Well, our partisan attacks will actually be accurate, and may actually move votes, but making them now precludes any chance of a rescue.

The Democrats are already cutting their throats by signing this — you think their constituents are pro giving money to Wall Street?

We can finish cutting necks later.

  2. Yes, we can ALL thank Nancy for doing such an outstanding job at maintaning bi-partisan politics during our country’s most difficult challenge in decades. Way to go Nancy for injecting such hatred, and personal condemnation in the interest of getting more for yourself.

Either way, we’ll survive – we always do, but if I never saw her face or Barney’s again, I think I’d generally be a happier person.

  4. Democrats in the house ARE SHIT…they wouldn’t eat their OWN sandwich. Pelosi needs to be removed. All democrat incumbents need to be voted OUT. Flush them down the toilet into the sewer where the stinking turds belong….
