They’ve completely lost all credibility. Conservatives, who never fully trusted the media to begin with, are completely disgusted with them after a year of watching them shill, and cover for Obama. People had to do some digging on their own if they wanted to find out pertinent facts about his past. A great many of the low information voters who voted for Obama didn’t do that, obviously, or they wouldn’t have voted for him. They got their info in five minute soundbites from the MSM.
I completely expect the media to swing to the left even further to accommodate those viewers who are left: Hardcore libs. Thus all the stations will become more like MSNBC, hardly mainstream. We’re starting to see it already on Fox, whose anchors and personalities have been given the order by Roger Ailes to go easy on Obama. I don’t even bother to watch, anymore. If I want a whitewash, I’ll throw myself into the washing machine. Reporting is dead.
Victor David Hanson is the latest of many, who have come to this conclusion:
There is now no journalism as we knew it. It died during the campaign. And so we have no mainstream media audit of politics other than the vestigial shrill warnings about the last three months of the dangerous Bush administration. From the New York Times, NPR, PBS, or Newsweek, we will hear little whether Obama is choosing a good or bad team, or said silly things or contradicts what he promised. They simply have lost all credibility and now the republic is left largely with bloggers, talk radio, and a few newspapers as mostly partisan auditors. This puts the mainstream media in a terrible bind. If Gitmo is not closed immediately, are the victimized detainees there suddenly redefined as terrible killers who can’t be let out? If adhered to, does the Petraeus-Bush withdrawal plan to leave Iraq by 2011, suddenly become sober and judicious? If not tampered with, do FISA and the Patriotic Act morph into reasonable measures? Does the economy suddenly improve on January 21, and Afghanistan become stable? Will anyone believe a Katie Couric, Chris Matthews, the front page of the New York Times, or listen to Andrea Mitchell when they speak of Obama? The media has bet that there was no efficacy to Guantánamo, the Patriot Act and similar provisions, and Iraq. But the fact is in the same period we were not attacked. If there were a connection between the two (and many of us think that there was), then shutting down Gitmo, repealing the Patriot Act, and getting quickly out of Iraq could be done within the first year easily and without risk. But will it happen, and if so, what would be the reaction following another 9/11-like attack?
This is not my concern, but rather what advisors to Obama are currently mulling out. Again, traditional journalism as we knew it —the big dailies, the weekly news magazines, the networks, public radio and TV—no longer exists. Death by suicide. RIP—around March, 2008.
And you have to hand it to Sean Hannity. He has been saying it loudly, and repeatedly for months. 2008 is the year that journalism died in this country.
Back in early October WND declared that the mainstream media had died, and something quite rotten had replaced it:
The mask is off. The pretense over.
After decades of pretending they’re not biased leftward – even though everyone else knew it – America’s “mainstream media” have finally, during 2008, dropped the façade of fairness and impartiality.
The big media openly worship Barack Obama. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, upon listening to Obama speak, says almost mystically, “I felt this thrill going up my leg.” Rolling Stone magazine rhapsodizes, “There is a sense of dignity, even majesty, about him … For its October cover, The Atlantic magazine hires a photographer who intentionally photographs John McCain to look ugly and threatening. (“I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad,” she later admits, adding, “maybe it was somewhat irresponsible for [the Atlantic] to hire me.” The New York Times publishes Barack Obama’s op-ed on Iraq policy, but refuses to run McCain’s op-ed. At the same time, all three network’s news anchors tag along with Obama like groupies on his overseas stump tour, while McCain receives scant media coverage. The pregnancy of Sarah Palin’s teen daughter is national news, as is the presence in the Alaska governor’s mansion of a tanning bed (which Palin paid for herself). But Obama being mentored and nurtured for years by terrorists (William Ayers), communists (Frank Marshall Davis) and America-hating racists (Rev. Jeremiah Wright), which helped shape him into the most left-wing, America-blaming, radically pro-abortion and tyrant-appeasing presidential candidate in U.S. history, is not news.
Yes, the media have long been biased to the left. But this year it’s different. This year, the mask has come off and the real face of the mainstream media – or MSM as they’re popularly called – has been revealed for all to see. And it ain’t pretty.
Remember the media’s treatment of the bogus “rape kit” story:
The Globe-Democrat yesterday asserted as fact that “during her tenure as mayor of Wasilla, the town started charging rape victims or their insurers for rape kits.”
But the truth is that there is no record of a rape victim ever being charged for a rape kit by Wasilla; there’s no evidence Mayor Palin knew about the policy or took any action on it either way; and no record of a victim’s insurance company being charged by the town.
How does an alleged “newspaper” make such a claim without any facts whatsoever?
The story is old news in the new media. Left-leaning Slate.com called it “a nasty and untrue rumor.” National Review’s Jim Geraghty, who has written exhaustively on the story calls it “unsupported by the facts.” But at the Obama-Uber-Alles Boston Globe, they call it “news.”
We have come to the point in the media’s treatment of Gov. Sarah Palin where even the fig leaf of pretense is gone. The press has openly chosen sides and has stopped apologizing for it.
So much time was spent obsessing over everything Palin, yet they ignored the fact that Obama’s formative years were spent in Indonesia, and then under the tutelage of Communists in Hawaii, (mom, grandparents, Frank Marshall Davis). The significance of that to his demeanor during the National Anthem, and his early refusal to wear a flag pin, was lost on the media.
The brief bruhaha about Reverend Wright in March, died down after Obama made his famous “race speech”. The amazing thing about this speech was, people either were totally swayed by it, or were left cold; (you can put me in the latter category). As far as the media was concerned, the story was over. Obama had explained it all. But of course he hadn’t. The question remains to this day: why the hell would someone – especially someone who claims to be “post-racial” stay in a demented, racist church like TUCC for 20 years?
Why was the fact that Obama was friends (yes, friends) with an unrepentant terrorist not explored by anyone in the MSM? One interview with O’Reilly doesn’t cut it. They worked together, served on boards, and panels together…it could be argued that they “shared ideas”; (I have no doubt that they did). Where were the investigative reporters? If I remember correctly, they were all in Alaska turning over dumpsters looking for dirt on Palin. The general public can tell you more about Sarah Palin’s wardrobe than anything about Obama’s stint at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.
They ignored not only his deplorable record on abortion, but also the lies he engaged in to defend his support for infanticide. In at least one case, a pro-life ad, that sought to expose Obama’s extreme pro-abortion record, was censored.
They weren’t curious about The New Party, or Obama’s past teaching workshops in the “Alinsky Method”. Bloggers dug up all sorts of juicy stuff, but it was widely ignored by the MSM.
They never batted an eyelash at Axelrod’s astro-turfing. Ask yourself if the McCain campaign would have gotten away with anything like that? If McCain had anything like Obama’s past history, his radical associations, and extreme positions on issues, you can bet that the MSM would have been all over him like a cheap suit.
His Communist buddies back in Chicago are probably having a good laugh about all this at our expense. (I’m looking at you, Ayers, Klonsky and Davidson). Good work, boys. You probably never dreamed it would get this far.
Perhaps most disgusting of all, the LA Times sat on the Khalidi Jew-bash video, that would have cost Obama votes with Jews, (and rightly so). Now, the man who appeared before AIPAC and promised that “Jerusalem would remain undivided”, is reportedly, already supporting the Arab plan that would partition Jerusalem, and give land to the Palestinians that would return Israel to its pre-1967 borders.
But still, according to the media, the man can do no wrong.
Truly, they’ve become like a State organ. I predict that they will become even more like an arm of our soon to be far-left (Marxist?) government.
We should call them Pravda West.
What does that make us?
