Miss Universe Calls GITMO: “Relaxing Calm and Beautiful”

miss-universeLurrrves Club Gitmo

Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela  visited Guantanamo Bay earlier this month on a trip organized by the USO, which supports U.S. troops.

From the sound of it, she really enjoyed the experience:

“It was a loooot of fun!,” Mendoza wrote, describing how she and Stewart met U.S. military personnel and took rides around the camp, which is encircled by a barbed-wire fenced, minefields and watchtowers. She said they also visited a bar on the base and the “unbelievable” beach there.

“We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the(y) recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting,” she wrote.

“I didn’t want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful,” she added.

I visited the Miss Universe Website, linked to in the Reuters article, and her post seems to have been scrubbed. The latest entry says:

On Friday, we left for Jacksonville for one night because the next day we were going to Guantanamo, Cuba!!!! Wow, my job is amazing!!!! I love it, I let you guys know next week how Guantanamo was …. Muah!

Eh, too bad…someone must have made her take down a post that was too amiable to American interests. Who was it?  A Chavez or Obama acolyte?

Obama’s Transnationalist Nomination For State Department Legal Adviser.

David Limbaugh has done due diligence and looked into the background of Obama’s pick for legal adviser to the State Department, former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh, a man who he says, “like George Soros and a host of ultra-left-wing bloggers, believes America is always the bad guy and that we should rehabilitate ourselves through following the wisdom of foreign nations and international bodies”:

As usual, President Barack Obama is multi-tasking the dismantling of the American system on so many fronts that not all of the outrages can be properly monitored. So while you should be mortified by his dictatorial power grab with General Motors, please don’t miss his recent nomination of former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh as legal adviser for the State Department.

In his new position, Koh not only would represent the United States before international bodies, such as the U.N. and the International Court of Justice, but also would influence the degree to which laws of other countries should influence American jurisprudence.

Koh considers himself to be a Transnationalist, which he defines as a judge who:

•Thinks about how U.S. law fits into a framework of transnational law.

•Thinks that courts can “domesticate” international law (make it part of our law).

•Favors the development of a global legal system, while nationalists prefer a national legal system.

It has also been reported that while addressing the Yale Club of Greenwich in 2007, he claimed that “in an appropriate case, he didn’t see any reason why sharia law would not be applied to govern a case in the United States.”

Before you say that could never happen here, look to the UK, and their adoption of official Sharia Courts.

Limbaugh explains the philosophy of the Transnationalists, this way:

Transnationalists clearly believe in an ever-changing, living Constitution and reject originalism (interpreting the Constitution according to its original understanding). They are obviously globalists, not overly concerned with American’s national sovereignty. They see the international community, in the words of Koh, as a “community of reason” and believe that American judges, in interpreting our Constitution, can resort to this “community of reason” (foreign laws) to choose between two “plausible” legal positions. Indeed, Koh wrote approvingly of United States Supreme Court decisions acknowledging “evolving standards of decency” and that we may look to this global community of reason to determine what those standards are.

If any of this is too legalistic, let me quote from Koh’s “Jefferson Memorial Lecture on Transnational Legal Process After September 11,” published in the Berkeley Journal of International Law.

In his introductory remarks, Koh said the United States, along with North Korea and Iran, form “the axis of disobedience,” that is, those nations “whose disobedience with international law has attracted global attention after Sept. 11.” Are you beginning to see the picture here?

Yes, I get the picture. All Americans should have gotten the picture when Obama told 200,000 cheering Berliners last summer, that he was a “citizen of the world”.

Now we’re finding out the hard way just how serious he was.

UPDATE: (April 2):

With all of the controversy now swirling around Koh, Legal Insurrection wonders if he’s being “borked”, and if so, do the Dems have any ground in which to complain?

If he fails, America is saved:

Luckily for him, he’s off the hook, now…the Dems have set their sights on Sarah Palin, as they segue from their Limbaugh Strategy to their Sarah Palin strategy.

The best way to gauge who the real movers and shakers in the Republican party are, is by watching who the Democrats are targeting  for destruction.

Megan McCain – Feh

I have been avoiding the whole Megan McCain verses right wing pundits war, (that she started), out of appreciation for her behavior during the 2008 election, which was above reproach. I thought she was a very poised young lady, and an asset to the Republican party, even if she only registered Republican after her dad became a candidate in the Presidential race.

But she has been grating on my nerves with her wrong headed attacks on Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Laura Ingraham. She doesn’t like their blunt style, or their use of biting humor to make a point. She finds Coulter, in particular, to be “offensive, radical,  insulting  and confusing”. In other words, she doesn’t understand her.

The conflict escalated when Laura Ingraham took up for Ann Coulter, making this unfortunate quip:

“Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren’t kind of cute and you weren’t the daughter of John McCain?” she asked, in her best Valley Girl accent. Speaking as Meghan McCain, she added: “ ‘OK, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the ‘Real World,’ but then I realized that, well, they don’t like plus-sized models.”

Not one of Ingraham’s finer moments, to be sure, and Megan rightly took offense.

But take a look at what she finds to be “the funniest thing she’s ever seen”.

She also finds the loathsome, anti-American, Republican-bashing British comedian, Russell Brand, “freaking hilarious”.

Pot meet kettle.

But this story, here, ( scroll down from Angie Harmon story)  seems to confirm what many have been saying about  her desire to fit in with the ‘cool kids.’ Ms. McCain recently appeared at Perez Hilton’s raunchy, star studded, Hollywood birthday bash:

Speaking of surprises, jaws dropped to the floor when Meghan McCain arrived — especially considering the world-famous gossip guru made several not-so-nice comments about mama Cindy’s “Stepford” existence and her daddy’s age in addition to retouching quite a few photos to show drool coming out of Mr. McCain’s mouth. Hmmm, so does Miss McCain have a hidden agenda in trying to get on Perez’s good side?

Coulter may have favored Hillary Clinton over Megan’s father…but at least she never retouched any photos of him.

Ms. McCain would do well to heed Michelle Malkin’s words:

Does the GOP need a new generation of conservatives who can defend our core values against the constant campus/media/Hollywood/effete European onslaught? Hell, yes.

Does the GOP need rudderless, self-defeating representatives who embrace pop culture demagogues on the Left while castigating the incivility of the “extreme Right?” Hell, no.

I agree.

And sadly, as it stands, I no longer think of her as an asset to the Republican party.

Rules For (Conservative) Radicals

Andrew (Saul) Breitbart believes conservatives are losing the digital war for American hearts and minds, to the left.

Read the comment sections of right-leaning blogs, news sites and social forums, and the evidence is there in ugly abundance. Internet hooligans are spewing their talking points to thwart the dissent of the newly-out-of-power.

We must not let that go unanswered.

Uninvited Democratic activists are on a mission to demoralize the enemy – us. They want to ensure that President Obama is not subject to the same coordinated, facts-be-damned, multimedia takedown they employed over eight long years to destroy the presidency – and the humanity – of George W. Bush.

Political leftists play for keeps. They are willing to lie, perform deceptive acts in a coordinated fashion and do so in a wicked way – all in the pursuit of victory. Moral relativism is alive and well in the land of Hope and Change and its Web-savvy youth brigade expresses its “idealism” in a most cynical fashion.

The ends justify the means for them – now more than ever.

Much of Mr. Obama’s vaunted online strategy involved utilizing “Internet trolls” to invade enemy lines under false names and trying to derail discussion. In the real world, that’s called “vandalism.” But in a political movement that embraces “graffiti” as avant-garde art , that’s business as usual. It relishes the ability to destroy other people’s property in pursuit of electoral victory.

I’m not sure how much success libs  have actually had with this.  On the blogs that I frequent, “mobies” as they are now known, are usually very easy to spot, and are subject to fierce beat-downs for their lame attempts to derail. At Ace of Spades HQ, there is currently a moby who’s been frequenting the site under the pretense that he’s a disaffected Republican who was a Romney backer during the primaries.

Nobody is fooled.

He is in fact a hardcore leftist; easy to spot because leftists do not think like conservatives, do not understand conservatives, and thus fail miserably in their attempts to mimic them.

Conservative writer, Andrew Klavan challenged libs, in an oped in the LA Times, to start listening to Rush Limbaugh so they might learn:

If you are reading this newspaper, the likelihood is that you agree with the Obama administration’s recent attacks on conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. That’s the likelihood; here’s the certainty: You’ve never listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Oh no, you haven’t. Whenever I interrupt a liberal’s anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: “I’ve heard him!”

On further questioning, it always turns out that by “heard him,” he means he’s heard the selected excerpts spoon-fed him by the distortion-mongers of the mainstream media. These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh’s show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly.

By lifting some typically Rushian piece of outrageous hilarity completely out of context, the distortion gang knows full well it can get you to widen your eyes and open your mouth in the universal sign of Liberal Outrage. Your scrawny chest swelling with a warm sense of completely unearned righteousness, you will turn to your second spouse and say, “I’m not a liberal, I’m a moderate, and I’m tolerant of a wide range of differing views — but this goes too far!”

There is more untruthfulness in that statement than in a speech by President Obama. Even the commas are self-deceiving. You’re not a moderate or you wouldn’t be reading this newspaper. You’re not tolerant of a wide range of views; you are tolerant of a narrow spectrum of variations on your views. And, whatever you claim, you still haven’t listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Snap! And then he issues the challenge…

The mainstream media (a.k.a. the Matrix) don’t want you to listen to Limbaugh because they’re afraid he’ll wake you up and set you free of their worldview. You don’t want to listen to him because you’re afraid of the same thing.

Don’t believe me? Well, then, gird your loins. Gather your courage. Accept the Limbaugh Challenge. See what happens.

I dare you.

A Huffpo poster, who could benefit from taking the challenge, wrote a plaintive open letter to the Democratic Party: Wave the White Flag in the Limbaugh War. He believes the Dems, who  are losing this particular propaganda war, should cease and desist, and cut their damages:

President Obama and the Democrats should wave the white flag in their strawman war on Rush Limbaugh. The Media Research Center delivered the grim casualty figures for the Democrats. Since January, the top talk show gabber’s ratings have soared off the charts. Radio affiliates that carry Limbaugh’s syndicated show call the ratings boost he’s gotten from the Democrat’s orchestrated attack on him a “dramatic surge.”

The gabber instantly snatched at the quip and turned it into a multi show bonanza. No matter what topic Limbaugh gassed on, he managed to slide in a reference to Obama’s prop up of him as the Democrat’s prize punching bag. This did three things. It gave him an even bigger pile of fodder to puff himself up as the emperor of talk radio,

(Which he indisputably is)…

claim to be the real kingmaker in the GOP,

Wrong, and anybody who listens to El Rushbo knows this is false. He’s a self described, “harmless, lovable, fuzzball”….

and in a perverse way paint himself as a credible and thoughtful political critic.

(Which all thoughtful, credible, intelligent lefties, who don’t listen to him, know him not to be).

It snapped many shell shocked Congressional Republicans out of their post election funk. Now suddenly feisty and combative, they draw a deep line in the sand against any and everything that Obama proposed. And it stiffened the spines of many timid Republicans and made them determined not to be bullied, or at least appear not to be bullied, by a mere talk show host into standing up to Obama.

That part doesn’t make sense to me. Is he saying that Rush was bullying them into pretending they weren’t being bullied to stand up to Obama? Huh? If he actually listened to Rush, he would know to thank Paul Begala, (aka The Forehead aka The Skull), the mastermind of the “Limbaugh Strategy” for all this counterproductive bullying.  He goes on:

This should have been the red flag warning to the Democrats to drop Limbaugh from their enemies rolodex. But no, they continued to blunder on. They took out ads, radio spots, and email blasts bashing and trashing bogeyman Limbaugh. The idea was to make sure that when the public thought GOP, they thought Limbaugh.

…Any other time this might be fun and games stuff, a side show distraction that bored reporters and TV talking heads used to fill up column space or a talk cast on off a slow news day, but the Democrats just couldn’t let it go. And that insured that the Limbaugh as Democrat’s foil ploy would continue to have shelf life.

Fun and games? The political party in power, using its  powers to target a private citizen, and try to destroy his career…that’s fun and games to these people?  Until it backfires?

And this brings us back to Andrew Breitbart, who’s of course right when he says:

So now that the right is vanquished and thoroughly out of power, why doesn’t it learn from its conquerors and employ similar tactics?

The answer is obvious. The right, for the most part, embraces basic Judeo-Christian ideals and would not promote nor defend the propaganda techniques that were perfected in godless communist and socialist regimes. The current political and media environment crafted by supposedly idealistic Mr. Obama resembles Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela more than John F. Kennedy’s America.

So we’ve got our work set our for us…no doubt about it…but I think we’ve got the moby situation under control.

Welcome, Ace of Spades morons!  Would it kill you to comment? What am I, a leper?

UPDATE:

Here’s an example of high stakes mobyism is South Carolina politics.

Oh Dear God…More Money For ACORN?!

Some disturbing news from Doug Ross about the “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act” (or GIVE Act) which passed the House days ago and its Senate counterpart, the “Serve America Act“) passed on Thursday,  which I already considered a God-awful, monstrous boondoggle. The two acts will be reconciled next week, and likely signed into law:

It is a crime and an outrage.

Criminal: $5.7 Billion for the Obama Youth Corps is destined for ACORN

The Senate bill purports to provide “$5.7 billion to aid 250,000 volunteers across the country in the arenas of health care, energy, environment and education.”

But the Senate killed an amendment that would have prevented funds from going to ACORN.

This means that ACORN, which stands accused of massive voter registration fraud by its own former employees, will probably receive billions more in taxpayer money. Remember that ACORN is a nakedly partisan and accused criminal operation that has allegedly co-opted more elections than any group in history.

The proposed amendment, offered by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), would simply have prevented charitable groups with political arms from receiving funding under the GIVE Act. Vitter noted that, “…At the heart of this debate is whether this new federal bureaucracy would, in effect, politicize charitable activity around the country, which we certainly do not want.”

Untrue. Democrats want it.

Any Republican who voted for these bills should be tarred and feathered.

Let’s tally ACORN’s booty so far in Obamerica. A few days ago, I asked:

Hey! Is there anyway we can give this group more money? What? Obama’s already taken care of that?

ADDITIONAL ACORN-ELIGIBLE BLOCK GRANTS

DIP: $1 Billion in Stimulus: “For an additional amount for `Community Development Fund’ $1,000,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2010 to carry out the community development block grant program under title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 (42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.)” (H.R.1, Enrolled As Agreed To By Both House And Senate)

RE-DIP: $3.9 Billion in Omnibus: “The bill provides $3,900,000,000 for the Community Development Fund…” (“Division I – Transportation, Housing And Urban Development, And Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2009; Joint Explanatory Statement” Rules Committee, U.S. House Of Representatives, Pg. 106)

And now:

$5.7 Billion for the Obama Youth Corps.

I thought I was being snarky when I asked if there was any way we could give this group more money. I should have known the Dems would find a way.
