More interesting is what is not contained in the emails. There is no evidence of any worldwide conspiracy, no mention of George Soros nefariously funding climate research, no grand plan to ‘get rid of the MWP’, no admission that global warming is a hoax, no evidence of the falsifying of data, and no ‘marching orders’ from our socialist/communist/vegetarian overlords. The truly paranoid will put this down to the hackers also being in on the plot though.
How interesting. Never mind the dubious veracity of most of that…nobody reporting on Climategate had even mentioned George Soros…. but now that they’ve mentioned it:
Daily Tech: September 2007, Update: NASA, James Hansen, and the Politicization of Science
In 2006, Hansen accused the Bush Administration of attempting to censor him. The issue stemmed from an email sent by a 23-year old NASA public affairs intern. It warned Hansen over repeated violations of NASA’s official press policy, which requires the agency be notified prior to interviews. Hansen claimed he was being “silenced,” despite delivering over 1,400 interviews in recent years, including 15 the very month he made the claim. While he admits to violating the NASA press policy, Hansen states he had a “constitutional right” to grant interviews. Hansen then began a barrage of public appearances on TV, radio and in lecture halls decrying the politicization of climate science.
Turns out he was right. Science was being politicized. By him.
A report revealed just this week, shows the ‘Open Society Institute’ funded Hansen to the tune of $720,000, carefully orchestrating his entire media campaign. OSI, a political group which spent $74 million in 2006 to “shape public policy,” is funded by billionaire George Soros, the largest backer of Kerry’s 2004 Presidential Campaign. Soros, who once declared that “removing Bush from office was the “central focus” of his life, has also given tens of millions of dollars to MoveOn.Org and other political action groups.
Certainly Soros has a right to spend his own money. But NASA officials have a responsibility to accurate, unbiased, nonpartisan science. For Hansen to secretly receive a large check from Soros, then begin making unsubstantiated claims about administrative influence on climate science is more than suspicious — it’s a clear conflict of interest.
Just sayin’.

Another Soros link is Fenton Communications:
…a left wing PR operation that promoted the Alar scare and other bogus health scares, and are the people who created the infamous “General Betray Us” ad attacking General Petraeus.
Real Climate, is a Fenton operation.
Among many other Democrat front groups as their clients, is MoveOn.org.
In fact, the same names listed for ‘Real Voices’, Fitzgibbon and Mulkey, show up on countless Moveon.org press releases, such as this and this and this.
But Fitzgibbon, Mulkey and Fenton Communications don’t stop there. They are also behind ‘Win Without War‘ which is another front group for Moveon.org.
So, like ‘Win Without War,’ the group calling itself ‘Real Voices’ is almost certainly just another Moveon front. Which means that the ‘real voice’ you hear is that of the billionaire Bush—hating megalomaniacal crackpot, George Soros.

He has mixed Neo-Marxist ideology with junk science, trial lawyers, labor, progressive millionaires, politicians, and radical policy wonks to construct a complex, moneymaking left-wing advocacy empire. Fenton Communications reported billing $6 million dollars in 2002, and will likely make much more this year with high profile clients like The Heinz Family Foundation, the aforementioned Open Society Institute and Moveon.org.

People like Steve McIntyre, Anthony Watts, Lord Monckton, and Chris Horner have been fighting this Leftwing environmental onslaught for years, and the tide may be beginning to turn in their favor…but is it too late?

What have the mainstream news media said about the Climategate affair? Remarkably little. The few who have brought themselves to comment, through gritted teeth, have said that all of this is a storm in a teacup, and that their friends in the University of East Anglia and elsewhere in the climatological community are good people, really.
No, they’re not. They’re criminals. With Professor Fred Singer, who founded the U.S. Satellite Weather Service, I have reported them to the UK’s Information Commissioner, with a request that he investigate their offenses and, if thought fit, prosecute. But I won’t be holding my breath: In the police state that Britain has now sadly become, with supine news media largely owned and controlled by the government, the establishment tends to look after its own.
In his strongest statement to date, Monckton said Saturday on the Alex Jones Show:
Monckton said that those who are threatening to shut down economies, bankrupt nations, and deepen the problems of the third world by implementing draconian policies in the name of global warming should be indicted, prosecuted and imprisoned “for a very long time”.
“The fraudsters and racketeers from Al Gore to the people at the University of East Anglia who have been making their fortune at the expense of taxpayers and the little guy,” should be criminally charged, said Monckton, in response to the climategate scandal.

Via Ed Morrissy, Hot Air: Oddly enough, the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit now admits they threw out the raw data on which much of their theories on anthropogenic global warming are based.
“The AGW movement has been exposed as a religious belief and a political cash cow, not science”.
And I would add, a means to an end.
