Video: Andrew Breitbart Defends Sherrod Video (with updates)

Shirley Sherrod served as director of rural development in Georgia until yesterday. After an  explosive video appeared on Big Government, where she made shockingly  blatant, racist statements, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack forced her to resign.

From the get-go,  there were some in the right-wing blogosphere, most notably, The Anchoress,  who were questioning the editing of the video. It seemed like she was leading up to something redemptive…. (although her attitudes were initially, severely  jacked up).

Charles Krauthammer believes Sherrod deserves an apology, and restitution, because the full video is a heartwarming story about racial redemption:

The most disturbing part of the video for me were the murmurs of approval from her NAACP audience when she admitted that she was not going to do everything she could do for the white farmer who was facing foreclosure on his farm. That, argues Breitbart, was the main point of the video, which he says, was sent to him in two parts. Here he is defending his “get” on CNN:

Right after that appearance, he appeared on The Dana Show:

Looks to me like Shirley Sherrod got caught in the crossfire in the war between the right and the left-wing medias.

UPDATE:

Here’s the tail-end of Breitbart’s appearance on Hannity, tonight.

UPDATE II:

Breitbart debates arch-nemesis, Eric Boehlert of Media Mutters on Good Morning America. Video at Gateway Pundit.

Love the part where Boehlert robotically mutters “I’ll take John Lewis’ word…I’ll take John Lewis’ word…John Lewis is a American icon…” as Breitbart gestures: Four videos … four videos! FOUR!

The left is reduced to defending the March 20 tea party smear as a “he said, he said”, and of course they take the word of  their Alinskyized brethren. What a pathetic joke.

UPDATE III:

Tom Blumer: Shirley Sherrod’s Disappearing Act: Not So Fast

Ms. Sherrod’s previous background, the circumstances surrounding her hiring, and the USDA’s agenda may all play a part in explaining her sudden departure from the agency. These matters have not received much scrutiny to this point.

An announcement of Ms. Sherrod’s July 2009 appointment to her USDA position at ruraldevelopment.org gives off quite a few clues:

RDLN Graduate and Board Vice Chair Shirley Sherrod was appointed Georgia Director for Rural Development by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on July 25. Only days earlier, she learned that New Communities, a group she founded with her husband and other families (see below) has won a thirteen million dollar settlement in the minority farmers law suit Pigford vs Vilsack.

****

Here are a few bigger-picture questions:

  • Did Shirley Sherrod resign so quickly because the circumstances of her hiring and the lawsuit settlement with her organization that preceded it might expose some unpleasant truths about her possible and possibly sanctioned conflicts of interest?
  • Is USDA worried about the exposure of possible waste, fraud, and abuse in its handling of Pigford?
  • Did USDA also dispatch Sherrod hastily because her continued presence, even for another day, might have gotten in the way of settling Pigford matters quickly?

This keeps getting better….for Breitbart:

  1. What ever happened to good old fashion news journalism.
Nowadays all we are getting is commentary, opinion, character assassination, skillful editing.
No one is interested in the truth anymore.
Better to create controversy than comment on it.
For the White House to fall for this trick is sad.
For the guy who edited the piece and sent it to Fox as news…its equally saddening that Fox did not insist on the full video
Had they seen it they would have come to the conclusion…as everyone has now…that it was much ado about nothing.

  2. The audience did murmur approval when Sherrod said she didn’t do all she could for the white guy. And it was upsetting to hear it.

But they also murmur approval when she says later that she learned, and that it’s about helping anyone, whatever their race. She’s not a racist. She’s just working it out.

  3. It seems like the audience is still working it out, as well. When they accuse the tea party of being racist, maybe there’s a little projection going on, there.

  5. “I could care less about Shirley Sherrod.”

    Andrew,

Even your dear mother could figure that out courtesy of the manner in which you conducted this attack.

Shoot first and give a damn never. That’s your style, Andrew.

Deliberately missing the point and taking a cheap shot instead? Par for the liberal course.

  9. I’ve read the story and added the link, Juanell, but I’m not smelling the big rat. I smell the dispersal of a buttload of government boodle to supposedly discriminated against black farmers, and that’s been going on since 1999…..

She was appointed to the USDA post before her group won the the $13 million settlement.

    What are you saying happened?

  10. Obviously I don’t know what happened, but I found it odd that (1.) she was appointed to the USDA post AFTER the case against the USDA (read paragraph 4 of the article I linked to) and (2.) she was fired so quickly and now they’re already reconsidering. Did the edited video come to Breitbart through a friend or foe? I see a very real possibility that it will be used to discredit both him and Fox.

  11. I’ve been wondering about the source of the video, myself. Clearly it was edited to put Sherrod in the worst possible light. Breitbart is protecting his source, but that’s seems to be where the rat is.

  12. Could it be that the WH or the journalists had gotten a heads up about the Daily Caller article, and this was their attempt to keep the story of how Obama was elected out of the news? As far as a source, I would bet Hillary has been sitting on this Daily Caller info for a long time and decided that this was as good as any time to “release” them (I think she is settting herself up to run), and the Shirley Sherrod tape was a hasty diversion.

  16. The audience appears to be made up largely of older black people, and since the talk is taking place in a rural area of a southern state, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that the lives they led growing up in such an area were just a **little** but different than that of someone like Andrew Breitbart.

They might have even harbored just a bit of resentment toward white people–not really sure why, though…oh yeah…southern state, growing up in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.

So, I cant really get too worked up about them “murmuring approvingly” when they hear that a white person might have been at the receiving end of a small fraction of what they experienced in their lives. I don’t like it, but I can certainly understand it.

But, hey, someone said Tea Partiers were racist—now **that’s** hateful.

  17. Love how the liberal mind tries to justify a racist double standard. Southern blacks are not expected to live in the present. They’re expected to harbor resentments from 50+ years ago, and punish innocent whites today, because growing up in the South in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s somehow dictates that. Clarance Thomas just emailed and said he would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

When is this resentment for the past sins of some whites, allowed to expire, I wonder? I’m Irish-American and the Irish Americans were once discriminated against. Who do I get to punish for the indignities ‘my people’ suffered.

But, hey, someone said Tea Partiers were racist—now **that’s** hateful.

Only thing you said that made sense. Unfortunately you’re being facetious.
