Bloggers Beware

Via Atlas Shrugs, and Potluck: “Child Services Interviewed My Child – Wanted to Know If We Had Solar Panels, Exactly Where We Go Camping and Hiking, If We Have Alternative Energy, If Food Stored, What I Blog About, Then Came to My House”

This woman has done nothing wrong, and since when has camping with your child become a federal crime?

Read the entire post. None of it makes sense, and it’s all very disturbing.

Atlas calls it “America’s SS”. All I know is something is deeply wrong, here.

  1. When I was a little kid, I was very sickly (bad asthma & other stuff) & missed a lot of school. This cost the school district money & social services started terrorizing my parents. From the time I was in 3rd grade until 8th grade (when my parents pulled me out of public school), they tried to take me away from my very loving parents. I was forced to see a school shrink who also interviewed my mom & our most innocent descriptions of our home life were twisted and interpreted to represent very sick fictitious things. For example: they asked my mom about my relationship with my dad (which was great, I was a true ‘daddy’s little girl’) and she described how he told me bedtime stories until I got sleepy every night and then she’d bring me to my own room & tuck me in for the night. The social services people took what my mom innocently disclosed to mean that my dad spent half the night sexually abusing me and then my mom would take over & do likewise. It was hell. Like the woman in this story describes the effect of this on her own child, I too suffered greatly both academically & socially due to the abuse of the SYSTEM used against my family. It took many years to get over and the story of what this woman is enduring has brought that all up from my memory. I am a blogger & a mom and needless to say, this greatly disturbs me.
What happened to my family took place in the eighties, I am saddened to see it still happening and getting worse.

Meanwhile, the real child abusers & their helpless victims continue to be ignored as people fall through the gaps and kids who really need help go without it and often die horribly.

  2. Amen to that, zilla. There are real cases of abuse out there, and what makes it to the news barely scratches the surface. My mother worked at a pediatric hospital, and would tell us the horror stories. Many of these cases were repeat offenders.

How about child protective services concentrate on the real abuses, and leave the good parents alone?

  3. I wish they’d done that in my case!
When my son was diagnosed with a language delay, his pediatrician wanted us to get involved with “early intervention” which involves sending social services to your home. You can imagine how much I would not want that after my own experience. Luckily, we had good insurance and I was able to get him evaluated for speech therapy without involving CPS, because once you are in that web it is incredibly difficult to extricate your way out. As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with my kid anyway, he was simply doing things in his own time. When his ‘speech therapist’ had a scheduling conflict and missed a few appointments, my son started talking. We decided to stop therapy and see where he would go on his own for a while and he’s fine now.
