Your Sunday Hymn: Be Thou My Vision

One of my favorite hymns, performed by Eden’s Bridge:

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my souls Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor mans empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heavens joys, O bright Heavens Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

You may recognize the tune as Lord of All Hopefulness, a hymn I posted last October.

  1. ND, thank you for this beautiful renditions of one of my favorite hymns too. On this we agree:)

    Are you familiar with the hymn, “Jesus, The Very Thought of Thee” by Bernard of Clairvoux? It is very precious, deep and beautiful.

  2. Not just one of my favorite hymns; it is my favorite. We sang it in church for years, and the first time I heard it by an artist, it was Van Morrison on his “Hymns to the Silence” double CD. I never hear it without getting a lump in my throat.
